Shrek The Musical gets swamped on its sold-out opening weekend!

Every seat was taken as Shrek the Musical opened to a sold-out weekend at Newport World Resorts. The production played to three consecutive full-house performances, drawing in over 5,000 audiences. Many theatergoers, dressed as their favorite fairy-tale characters, flocked to the Newport Performing Arts Theater for a laugh-out-loud adventure.

the Broadway hit, a heartwarming, hilarious retelling of the beloved DreamWorks classic, kicked off its run with thunderous applause, standing ovations, and an ogre-sized dose of joy.

The swamptacular show stars Jamie Wilson as the lovable green ogre Shrek, Krystal Kane as the feisty Princess Fiona, and Topper Fabregas as the wisecracking Donkey, with Alfredo Reyes as the tiny tyrant Lord Farquaad and Julia Serad as the fierce and fiery Dragon.

Behind the curtain is an all-star creative team led by Director Dexter Santos, Artistic Director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Associate Director Michael Stuart Williams, Assistant Director Cara Barredo, and Musical Director Ejay Yatco. Together, they create a big, bright, beautiful world on stage through dazzling sets, bold choreography, and irresistible humor.

With its layers upon layers of charm, humor, and heart, Shrek the Musical celebrates individuality and self-acceptance through unforgettable show-stoppers like “Big Bright Beautiful World,” “Freak Flag,” “I Know It’s Today,” and the feel-good finale “I’m a Believer.”

Shrek The Musical is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. It features book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori.
