  • Filipino Hard Rock Legends Wolfgang Reunite for 30th Anniversary Show

Filipino Hard Rock Legends Wolfgang Reunite for 30th Anniversary Show

Legendary and award-winning hard rock band Wolfgang is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of their highly acclaimed self-titled debut album with a reunion concert on February 7, 2026, at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao.

The classic line-up of Basti Artadi (vocals), Wolf Gemora (drums), and Manuel Legarda (guitars) will be performing together for the first time since 2000 following the release of their sixth studio album, Black Mantra. Gemora migrated to the United States following that album and the band went into a hiatus.

When Wolfgang reformed in 2007, Francis Aquino took over on drums although the band has performed intermittently over the last several years.

Thus far, the band has put out six studio albums (Wolfgang, Semenelin, Wurm, Serve in Silence, Black Mantra, and Villains), one live album (Acoustica), and a mini-album (Ang Bagong Dugo sa Lumang Ugat – Unang Kabanata).

The band kicked off their 30th Anniversary by putting out two versions of their platinum selling debut album (over 40,000 units sold) – dubbed “Wolfgang 30”, there was the standalone version that featured re-recordings of the classic, and the Wolfgang 30 box set that contained also the re-recording as well as a live and an acoustic mini-album via independent label, Eikon Records.

Most recently, the band’s music was the basis for the masterful rock opera, Si Faust, that sold out its entire three-week run at the Arete in the Ateneo de Manila University.

“Wolfgang the reunion was put together with the intention of bringing our fans back to their days when problems were few and bills were small and only the music mattered,” underscored Artadi.

“This has been a long time coming and I am super stoked to play these amazing songs with these guys,” added Gemora. “I am also excited to perform for our fans both OGs and youngbloods whose support is invaluable to me. Unfortunately, Mon won’t be present, but his spirit and lyrics will be definitely felt by everyone.”

“I am super excited about this reunion,” enthused Legarda. “Having re-recorded and mixed the Wolfgang debut album to celebrate its 30th anniversary, I am super fired up to play these old songs again. For sure, this will be an awesome show. My one regret is that Mon cannot be with us for this.”

“Mon” is founding member, bassist Mon Legaspi who passed away in 2022 but was able to contribute to the re-recording of their debut album.

Wolfgang will announce who will fill in for Legaspi for the New Frontier concert over the next few days.

During their 90s and early 2000s heyday, Wolfgang won a slew of awards from the NU Rock Awards to the Awit Awards, MTV Pilipinas Music Awards, Katha Awards, and the Asia Voice Indie Music Awards.

Another massive feather in the band’s cap is that they are the only Filipino band to have their music released not only domestically, but also in Japan and the United States.

Aside from Wolfgang’s legendary status, Ovation Productions felt that the band fit nicely along with all the other hard rock and metal acts they have presented through the years.

“We have previously promoted Metallica, Korn, Incubus, Dream Theater, Stone Temple Pilots, Bon Jovi, and Nazareth to name but a very few. Wolfgang fits nicely into that roster of top acts that we work with,” said Ovation Productions Chief Operating Officer Gonzalo “Bogie” de Guia.

The Wolfgang 30th Anniversary Reunion Concert is presented by Ovations Productions with Blast TV as the official media partner. Tickets for the concert go on sale this Monday, December 8 and can be purchased at Ticketnet outlets and ticketnet.com.ph with prices at Php 5700, 4700, 3700, and 2700, inclusive of ticketing charges.

  • TOTO’s Manila Comeback: A Nostalgic Night of Timeless Classics

TOTO’s Manila Comeback: A Nostalgic Night of Timeless Classics

Celebrating their first performance in the Philippines in 17 years, the legendary American rock band Toto will be returning to Manila for a one-night-only concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 4, 2025. Presented by Ovation Productions, this much-awaited event promises to be an evening of music, nostalgia, and world-class musicianship. Here’s why music lovers of all ages should absolutely check out Toto’s Manila event.

    A Legacy of Timeless Hits

Formed in Los Angeles in 1977, Toto is behind some of the most famous songs in rock history, including “Africa,” “Hold the Line,” “Rosanna,” “I’ll Be Over You,” and “Georgy Porgy.” With “Africa” alone earning Diamond certification for over 10 million copies sold in the U.S. and compiling two billion Spotify listens, these songs have crossed generations. Over half of the band’s younger audience as well as long-time supporters find resonance in their ability to combine pop, rock, soul, and jazz. Anticipate a setlist full of great masterpieces that will provide both a fresh and nostalgic experience.

A Rare Reunion with Filipino Fans

Toto recently visited the Philippines in 2008, touring Manila and Cebu; their 1992 performance at the Folk Arts Theater is still much cherished by many. This 2025 event marks a long-overdue reunion with their devoted Filipino audience, who had yearned for their comeback. This will be a legendary evening because of the emotional link between the band and their supporters as well as the electrifying environment of a Manila audience.

    Powerful Performances

Toto is well-known for its extraordinary musical ability; members have helped to produce many Grammy-winning records spanning several genres. Steve Lukather (guitar/vocals), Joseph Williams (vocals), Greg Phillinganes (keyboards/vocals), Shannon Forrest (drums), John Pierce (bass), Warren Ham (horns/percussion/vocals), and Dennis Atlas (keyboards/vocals) make up the powerhouse of skill and showmanship of the current lineup. Complimenting their group ability, guitar master Eddie Van Halen famously said Toto is “the band any musician would dream of being in.” Perfect performances, complex arrangements, and explosive solos highlighting why Toto is still a benchmark for live music can be expected by fans.

Critical Acclaim for Their Live Shows

Fans and critics alike applaud Toto’s live performances for their energy, precision, and crowd enchantment. Recent event reviews note the band’s powerful voices and dramatic stage presence, making classics like “Africa” spectacular live. Recent setlists on setlist.fm imply Toto now prioritizes crowd-pleasers, guaranteeing Manila fans get the hits they adore.

A Night of Nostalgia and Connection

Toto’s songs provide a soundtrack to life’s events for Filipino listeners—road trips, heartache, and jubilation. In a packed arena, singing along to “Africa” or “Rosanna” will be a shared experience bringing together supporters of all generations. As Toto’s ageless anthems fill the SM Mall of Asia Arena, the event promises to inspire nostalgia as well as fresh memories. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a band that keeps influencing rock music.

  • Phantom Siita Enchants in Moth to a Flame Concert in Manila

Phantom Siita Enchants in Moth to a Flame Concert in Manila

It was an enchantingly spooky evening as the Phantom Siita made their Philippine concert debut at the Samsung Hall on January 18. The retro-horror idol group, composed of Mona, Miu, Rinka, Hisui and Moka, performed their latest hits as well as a number of well-curated old-school covers. Manila marked the 2nd stop of their 1st world tour titled Moth to a Flame.

The five members of Phantom Siita were selected from an audition spearheaded by the popular singer Ado, backed by her talent agency Cloud Nine. Since then, Ado has actively directed their concepts, their song production and even the design of their costumes.  After making their official debut just seven months ago, the group is already embarking on a world tour, and they are set to make a name for themselves.

Dubbing themselves as a “retro-horror” idols, Phantom Siita’s music is an amalgamation of  many things: You’ll get to hear streaks of ‘80s to ‘90s city pop, modern pop, traditional Japanese music, temperamental tempo breaks – all laced with the ladies’ haunting vocal harmonies.

Phantom Siita made a strong entrance with “Just Wanna xxx With You” and “Devilish Girl”, resplendent with the delicate choreography with an extra flair for theatrics. The girls donned their black sailor-style uniforms with ombre red hems, the same outfit they wore for one of their music videos. Not only were they all proficient in dancing and singing, they also exuded a veil of horror as they stared down the crowd with their intense gazes – partly crazed and seemingly haunted. The Filipino crowd welcomed them with the loudest cheers, waving their lightsticks in excitement.

The concert also highlighted each member’s versatility and talent during their solo stages. It was a throwback to the glitz of the ‘80s as Mona performed Seiko Matsuda’s “Aoi Sangoshou” and Rinka sang Meiko Nakahara’s “FANTASY”. Going the anime-flavored route, Miu covered Kenshi Yonezu’s “KICK BACK” from Chainsaw Man while Hisui did Utada Hikaru’s “One Last Kiss” from Evangelion 3.0+1.0. Moka held her end with her charming rendition of “Fly-day Chinatown” by Yasuha. In a show of support, fans changed the color of their lightsticks to match the representative color of the member performing on stage.

Phantom Siita saved their best for last. Towards the end, they performed  the irreverent “Otomodachi” and  the melancholic “HANAGATAMI” which hyped up the crowd even more. Add to this, they also showed their distinctive take on the iconic J-pop favorites “Mayonaka no Door/Stay with Me” by Miki Matsubara (the retro pop song that became a viral hit all over social media) and “Moonlight Densetsu” by DALI (the theme song of the quintessential ‘90s anime series Sailor Moon). As homage to their producer Ado, they also performed “Tot Musica”, the song that became the basis of their whole concept as a group.

During their ment, the members repeatedly expressed their gratitude for the crowd’s loud cheers and support. Mona mentioned that it felt surreal to have a lot of fans in the Philippines. Rinka shared that they ate halo-halo the day before and said it was delicious. They also asked their fans to keep supporting them as they continue to grow as artists. For the finale, they performed the thrilling “Zoku Zoku”.

Seeing Phantom Siita live was an interesting concert experience. Just like the intended meaning of their tour title, watching their show felt a bit eerie, but it was difficult to look away. Their choreography, matched by the girls’ haunting execution, was captivating. Their brand of retro-horror is a refreshing twist that offers a lot of potential, with songs that are remarkably catchy. We left the concert humming the chorus of “Otomodachi” and “Zokuzoku” repeatedly.

Phantom Siita will continue their world tour in North America and Europe until February.

The Korean Alt Pop band is composed of four members: vocalist and guitarist Woosung, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Dojoon, bassist Jaehyeong, and drummer Hajoon. Renowned since their inception for electrifying performances, The Rose quickly became one of Korea’s most sought-after groups delivering a series of critically acclaimed albums that resonated with fans worldwide. In 2019, three of the band members temporarily went on hiatus to fulfill their mandatory military service obligations, during which Woosung pursued a successful solo career, releasing captivating albums and embarking on sold-out world tours. In a moment of sheer joy for their devoted fans, The Rose reunited during one of Woosung’s performances in South Korea in 2022. This reunion paved the way for their first full-length album HEAL, which was inspired by the transformative power of music and the stories shared by both their fans and themselves. HEAL soared to #4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart, while their accompanying HEAL Together World Tour drew an overwhelming crowd of over 90,000 attendees. Now, with their sophomore full-length album DUAL which made the Mediabase 200 chart in its first week of sales, The Rose takes their music to new heights with Rolling Stone UK calling it “an album that takes you on a layered, emotional journey, full of elation, heartache and twists and turns – just like life itself.” Building upon the emotional honesty and vulnerability showcased in HEAL, this latest offering explores the profound concept of ‘balance.’ Seamlessly merging light and dark elements, The Rose masterfully weaves emotions and sounds, capturing the dualistic essence that defines their music.

  • Dream Theater Day on May 4, 2023

Dream Theater Day on May 4, 2023

Dream Theater fans in the Philippines, “May the Fourth” be with you, as the progressive metal band Dream Theater is in for a treat this 2023.

Dream Theatercomprised of James LaBrie, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, John Myung, and Mike Mangini, were in the middle of a sold-out world tour in support of their last release, Distance Over Time, and the 20th anniversary of Scenes From A Memory when a global pandemic brought the world to a stop. The musicians found themselves at home with LaBrie in Canada and the rest of the group in the States. As fate would have it, they’d just finished construction on DTHQ (Dream Theater Headquarters), a combination live recording studio, rehearsal space, control room, equipment storage facility, and creative hive. With LaBrie in Canada, he initially wrote with the band via Zoom on a monitor in DTHQ. In March 2021, he flew down to New York, quarantined himself, and recorded his vocals face-to-face with Petrucci. The album, A View From The Top Of The World, ultimately threaded together lean and uncompromising hooks with tried-and-true technical proficiency.

“We just love to play our instruments,” observes Petrucci. “That never goes away. I love to be creative, write, and exercise that part of my mind. We’ve been able to do this for a long time, and we don’t take it for granted. Whenever we get together, we know we can’t disappoint ourselves or our fans, so we manage to try even harder.”

“We approach every album like it’s our first,” adds LaBrie. “It’s been such a great ride, but we’re not going to stop.”

“My takeaway from Manila, for the first time, is that “it was incredible” and I really don’t know how to describe it better than we have. We didn’t know what to expect; we did get there, and finally, we’re doing the concert. It was an amazing experience; the fans were absolutely fantastic, and we could tell that they were having an amazing time and a great experience. Go, the first time there was phenomenal, and that’s why we’re coming back. Absolutely!” answered Labrie when asked about their takeaway from their first concert in the Philippines.
Their “Top of the World” tour in the Philippines will take place at the New Frontier Theater on May 4, 2023 (8:00 p.m.), presented by Ovation Productions. Tickets are available at ticketnet.com.ph.
