Netflix’s C.H.I.K.A. Strikes Again: Kris Aquino Puts Her Spin on Someone, Someday, Rekonek & More

Kris Aquino is back—and she’s not done yet.

    Credits to Netflix

If you enjoyed watching her dive into her new role as Netflix’s C.H.I.K.A. (Chief Head of Insights and Kontent Analysis), the second episode is ready to keep the fun going. This time, Kris and her editor Earljohn return for another round of creative tweaks, putting their spin on more of our favorite local titles.

Halfway through her first day on the job, Kris turns her attention to Someone, Someday, Rekonek, Love You So Bad, and Unmarry. She transforms an offensive graffiti tag into something unexpectedly cute, finds a clever way to connect two characters dealing with signal problems, amps up a “run away with me” moment, and gives a dramatic shot a much-needed lift. The result? These series and films now carry that unmistakable Kris Aquino touch.

NETFLIX PHILIPPINES INVITES VIEWERS HOME WITH ITS LATEST FAMILY DRAMEDY, ‘GANITO, GANYAN, GANOON’

The leads, director, and other cast members welcomed press and content creators to the film’s exclusive media launch

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – August 12, 2026 – The table is set for a family reunion like no other! Netflix Philippines’ GANITO, GANYAN, GANOON held its much-anticipated media launch at Casa Buenas, Newport Mall, bringing together leads Jodi Sta. Maria and Agot Isidro, and the film’s director and screenwriter, Cholo H. Laurel, for an afternoon of good food, heartfelt conversations, and the journey of finding one’s way back home.

Leading the official launch were the leads and two of the biggest actresses in Philippine entertainment – Sta. Maria and Isidro – who described their characters and walked the audience through what it felt like to prepare for the drama-heavy film. Isidro, who plays Paz, shared: “I made a grand homecoming to a family I did something to in the past. I was an absentee mother. I was the one who really opened the wounds of the family.”

Alongside her is Sta. Maria as Jo, a hyper-independent writer with big dreams: “Just when she thought she had it all together, biglang dumating ang isang ‘storm’ sa buhay niya sa katauhan ni Paz. Umuwi para manggulo. Paano siya ngayon mabubuhay sa presensya ng babaeng kilala niya bilang ‘ina’, pero hindi naman nagpaka-ina?” (“A ‘storm’ suddenly enters her life in the form of Paz, who comes home to turn everything upside down. How can she live with the woman she knows to be her ‘mother’, but who never truly acted like one?”)

Director Cholo H. Laurel, who makes his return to filmmaking with the movie after a 10-year hiatus, also talked about the value Netflix brought into the film and his creative process: “It was in 2018 when I felt that there was a chance to jump into the arena again. With Netflix — they had the proper budget, they had the proper organization. Inantay lang namin ‘yung tamang opportunity, kasi may requirement kami dito sa pelikula.” (“We waited for the right opportunity because we had a requirement for this film.”) That requirement meant bringing together the cast to play their respective characters in their location at Marinduque, with the majority of the scenes shot at Laurel’s home, Balai La-hi.

While packaged as a family drama, the creative team knew that it also had to highlight humor and show how moments of peace, no matter how rare, punctuate and coexist with the heavier ones—a true mark of a typical Filipino family. Laurel expands: “For drama to be effective as a tool, it has to be funny.”

The topic of forgiveness runs through the film’s themes and rightfully asks whether one can truly have closure, despite not getting it. What GANITO, GANYAN, GANOON adds to the conversation is its authenticity and fearlessness in exploring such familiar family dynamics. As one of the film’s writers, Laurel explains: “(The film) prescribes that we have to resort to proper communication. It requires only that. That you talk. That you expose the wounds. It does not prescribe you to do anything: it does not prescribe you to forgive, to say that this is good, that it is bad – no. It just tells you that this is the Filipino family; these are what relationships are like. You decide.” Isidro echoed this sentiment, sharing her belief that ‘peace’ is only possible when it comes from within—from oneself: “I just turned sixty, mas ngayon, parang for everyone, ayaw na natin ng bagahe sa buhay. Naiisip mo na that the healing and forgiveness ay nanggagaling sa sarili. It’s really an inner work.” (“Now, for everyone, we don’t want baggage. You realize that healing and forgiveness come from within yourself.”)

The media launch also treated the audience to an exclusive clip that revealed the chaos of what awaits viewers – one of the two pivotal scenes that happened at the dining table.

GANITO, GANYAN, GANOON is more than just a story about a family; it is a reflection of the universal yet deeply Filipino dynamics that shape our relationships with the people closest to us and asks us to reflect on what you bring to the table and what looms after you’ve left it. It is an invitation to look back home—even when you’d rather stay away—and asks us to sit with uncomfortable feelings and people, trying to understand what it means to remember the same wounds differently.

For Isidro, this means knowing that all of our experiences are valid, because it happened; for Sta. Maria, it is a matter of feeling for the character that truly reflects the experiences and stories closer to one’s own. Laurel expands on the film’s exploration of tentative truths and the concept of having no absolutes in this film—and in life: “Walang absolute na tama, walang absolute na mali. There is good, there is bad, and there is real. And then you piece together why this is happening. Lahat tayo may pinanggagalingan, lahat tayo ay tao lamang.” (“There is no absolute right or wrong. There is good, there is bad, and there is what is real. And then you piece together why things happen the way they do. We all have our own stories and our own reasons for being the way we are. At the end of the day, we are all only human.”)

Other cast members – Gabriel Lazaro and Ruby Ruiz – were also in attendance and looped viewers into what to expect from their characters. Lazaro has this to say about his character Matti: “He’s kind of a troubled guy. Throughout the film, he’s also trying to discover his identity, kind of reconnecting with this side of his family as well.” Ruiz plays Des, the loyal helper who represents the mostly silent companion who bore witness to the family’s complicated relationship, “Para na din nilang kamag-anak; na parang surrogate mother din ni Jodi. Dahil nga wala si Paz. Ako ‘yung nakakakilala ng husto sa pamilya, despite all the odds, despite all the imperfections.” (“I am like a family member; like Jodi’s surrogate mother. I know the family inside out, despite all the odds, and despite all the imperfections.”)

GANITO, GANYAN, GANOON officially joins the myriad of local titles in and produced by Netflix Philippines, proudly bringing Filipino narratives that many people from around the world can experience through their screens. Sta. Maria has this to say about that experience: “Now, they get to see us. The Filipino people. A glimpse into our culture. Who we are as a people and as a nation. ‘yung great talent na meron ka.” (“The great talent that we have.”)

The afternoon brought together an intimate group of over 70 media professionals, special guests, and content creators to celebrate a story about family, forgiveness, and finding one’s way back home—an invitation to look beyond the narrative and see pieces of themselves in its characters, just a day before the film’s official launch on the platform.

GANITO, GANYAN, GANOON is now showing, available worldwide. Only on Netflix.

Netflix Philippines just dropped a fun promotional campaign today (August 7, 2026) introducing Kris Aquino as its official C.H.I.K.A. — Chief Head of Insight and Kontent Analysis. It’s a playful, fictional role that leans hard into her iconic “chika” (gossip/candid commentary) style.

In the video, she steps into an editing room on her “first day,” delivering signature honest-to-goodness critiques of Filipino titles currently streaming on the platform (including A Secret in Prague, Blood vs Duty, and The Master Cutter). She requests bigger, colder winter vibes, bonggang visual upgrades, and her usual flair — then stamps the enhanced clips “Kris Aquino approved.” “Ano itong pasabog ni madam?! … with some bonggang upgrades to local shows, Krissy style.”

The campaign is planned as a three-episode series, with the next drops on August 14 and 20.

Fans are loving the pure Kris Aquino way, over-the-top title, the pajama job-application teaser earlier in the day, and that unmistakable delivery. Classic Queen move.

  • Main Poster and Trailer for Our Sticky Love, Premiering August 7

Main Poster and Trailer for Our Sticky Love, Premiering August 7

Netflix’s upcoming Korean romantic comedy series Our Sticky Love has released its main poster and trailer, offering a charming first look at the sticky, sweet romance between an amnesiac prosecutor and a small-town boxing coach. The series premieres August 7, exclusively on Netflix.

Starring Ha Young as Go Eun-sae and Jung Hae-in as Jang Tae-ha, the show follows Eun-sae, an ambitious prosecutor who wakes up in a rural hospital with complete memory loss. She finds herself in the quiet Taffy Village (Yeot Village) in Gujin-gun, where Tae-ha, a former boxing champion turned local coach, calmly claims to be her boyfriend. What begins as a bewildering arrangement quickly turns into cohabitation filled with quirky chemistry, fish-out-of-water comedy, and underlying secrets.

The main poster captures the pair’s tangled dynamic perfectly: Eun-sae grips Tae-ha by the collar with a pout, while her prosecutor ID and swirling luxury items contrast with their rural setting. The tagline “Sweetly tangled. Hopelessly stuck!” nods to the series’ central metaphor of traditional Korean taffy (yeot) sticky, sweet, and impossible to pull away from once you’re caught.

In the trailer, Eun-sae’s confusion is front and center. The quiet village lined with traditional taffy shops and its peculiar residents feel alien to her big-city sensibilities, and Tae-ha’s scruffy appearance is a far cry from her usual type. She struggles to trust a word he says. Yet his steady warmth and earnest admiration gradually chip away at her defenses. Sweet lines and gentle affection leave her flustered and smiling, even as Tae-ha warns that no one can find out about them, hinting at deeper mysteries surrounding why she’s safest by his side and what truly binds them together.

Director Kim Jang-han describes the series as “a heart-warming, feel-good romantic comedy” about building a love that sticks “as tightly as sticky, sweet Korean taffy.” The irresistible charm, he promises, will leave viewers unable to pull themselves away.

With Jung Hae-in’s easy charm and Ha Young’s sharp comedic timing, Our Sticky Love looks set to deliver the perfect blend of heart, humor, and just the right amount of mystery.

Mark your calendars, the series streams August 7, only on Netflix.

Maria) and Paz (Agot Isidro) as they confront the bitter reality of mortality while rebuilding their estranged relationship.

At the Next on Netflix Philippines event held in February, Agot shared how the story can be relatable to the Filipino audience. “[We] Filipinos are very family-centric, so I really think we’re reaching out to our audience.”

For Director Cholo Laurel, the dramedy genre blend captures the nature of a real family. “If you look closely, drama is actually hilarious—especially family drama. The topics that we’re discussing here are already inherently heavy, so we wanted to lighten it up a little bit.”

Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon offers the viewers a truthful take on how filial love and family can make, break, and shape your dreams and decisions in life—making you laugh and  cry through it all.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao Rematch Set for Blockbuster Showdown on Netflix

In a massive development for boxing fans worldwide, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are set to face off once again in a professional rematch on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The highly anticipated bout will take place at the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas, marking the first-ever professional boxing match to be held at this cutting-edge venue.

The fight will stream live globally on Netflix, included in all subscription plans, no additional pay-per-view fees required. This marks a significant shift from their original 2015 encounter, which drew massive pay-per-view numbers but left many fans wanting more due to its controversial outcome.

The two boxing legends first clashed in what was billed as the “Fight of the Century” on May 2, 2015, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather won by unanimous decision, improving his undefeated record to 49-0 (later 50-0), while Pacquiao cited a shoulder injury as a factor in his performance. The bout shattered pay-per-view records at the time but was criticized for lacking action.

The Sphere, a $2.3-billion spherical venue known for its immersive 360-degree LED exterior and interior screens, has hosted major events like concerts and UFC 306 (the first combat sports event there in 2024). This will be its first professional boxing card, with Netflix promising an “immersive experience unlike any other in boxing history” by leveraging the venue’s advanced technology for viewers at home.

    How to Watch
    Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026

    Location: Sphere, Las Vegas

Streaming: Live on Netflix (global access included in subscriptions)

The Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch marks the latest chapter in Netflix’s record-breaking expansion into live boxing. It follows the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event, which drew 108 million live global viewers to become the most-streamed sporting event in history; Taylor-Serrano 3, which took place at Madison Square Garden and was the most-watched professional women’s sporting event of 2025 in the US; and the Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford showdown, which garnered 41.4 million viewers as the century’s most-watched men’s championship fight. Netflix continues this momentum with the upcoming return of Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11 – Netflix’s first-ever live event broadcast from the United Kingdom.

  • A Home for World-Class Filipino Entertainment: The Journey and What’s Next on Netflix in 2026

A Home for World-Class Filipino Entertainment: The Journey and What’s Next on Netflix in 2026

After 10 years of being part of Filipino entertainment culture, Netflix Philippines enters 2026 with a slate that marks a striking new chapter — bigger in ambition, deeper in creative partnerships, and unmistakably Filipino at its core.

What began as a home for global entertainment has evolved into a creative space where local storytellers find new possibilities, and where Filipino audiences see themselves and their stories captured with scale, craft, and heart. We see this in the way Filipinos show up for homegrown stories. Last year alone, over 90% of our members in the Philippines watched local content.

How Netflix Became Part of the Local Story
Over the years, Netflix has evolved from introducing global stories to local audiences to actively supporting Filipino creators in sharing their stories with the world. As our collaborations grew and local creators pushed bolder visions, our audiences made their preferences clear: they want stories that move them, surprise them, and reflect the Filipino experience with authenticity and ambition.

Hit titles like Doll HouseLolo and the KidOutside, and Kontrabida Academy showed how deeply local stories struck a chord with Filipino viewers everywhere and earned global attention. To date, 32 Filipino titles have charted on our Global Top 10 lists.

Within the industry, Netflix’s role evolved, too. We became a steadfast partner — here to invest and here to help local talent tell the stories they’ve long wanted to tell.

Our local approach doesn’t just apply to how we tell stories, but also how we bring the best of local film and television to Filipino audiences. Since 2022, Netflix has premiered episodes of long-running Filipino dramas before they air on free-to-air TV — first with ABS-CBN, then with GMA. It’s a collaboration that gives fans more ways to watch the shows they love, and underscores Netflix’s commitment to strengthening the country’s existing entertainment ecosystem.

“We are excited to continue growing alongside the industry, strengthening partnerships, and supporting more ambitious ideas from script to screen. We continue to bring Filipino stories to the global stage, working with a wide range of creators to showcase the breadth, ambition, and diversity of Filipino storytelling. We are confident viewers will enjoy the varied stories coming to their screens this year, and the many more we look forward to bringing their way,” said Vitto Lazatin, Netflix’s Content Lead for the Philippines and Director of Content Licensing for Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

    Bigger Worlds, Bolder Choices
Bigger and bolder. This is the direction Filipino viewers are pulling the industry toward, and that is exactly where Netflix Philippines’ 2026 slate is headed. For the first time, the lineup introduces five originals — three series and two films — a major jump that pushes genre, scale, and imagination while staying rooted in Filipino heart.

One of our most-awaited releases, BuyBust: The Undesirables reimagines the events after the 2018 film as a full-scale dystopian action series starring Anne Curtis and directed by Erik Matti. With massive sets, large ensemble casts, and its most ambitious production scale to date, the series pushes Filipino action into a new realm.

Tapping into folklore, Balaraw delivers an atmospheric horror-mystery series from director Rae Red, weaving an ensemble story with shades of Lost but grounded entirely in Filipino sensibilities. It’s expansive, unsettling, and unlike anything currently made in Philippine TV.

Capturing the magic of first love, 18th Rose brings a fresh, modern YA romance film to the slate, which has become rare in today’s local market despite clear demand. With a never-before-seen pairing of Xyriel Manabat and Kyle Echarri at its center, it’s charming, youthful, and emotionally resonant.

In Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon, a family drama with an offbeat twist, a wildly complicated mother anchors a story that is heartfelt, funny, and instantly relatable. The film explores the chaos and warmth of Filipino family life with honesty and edge, led by none other than Jodi Sta. Maria.

Rooted in the country that celebrates Christmas longer than anyone, Paskong Pinoy revives the warmth of classic Filipino holiday storytelling through a simple, feel-good anthology of nostalgia, romance, second chances, and the sweetness of coming home.

Two series are also coming in partnership with our local network partners, premiering three days before free-to-air TV. GMA’s The Master Cutter stars Dingdong Dantes in an action drama about a former scout ranger who now lives a double life — working quietly as a tailor by day, while taking on dangerous bounty hunting jobs on the side. ABS-CBN’s Someone, Someday follows a woman scarred by her past who creates a modern dating app to help women find the right love at the right time. Through the love stories she brings together — and while navigating the challenges in her own life — she begins to rediscover what love truly means for herself. The series stars Kathryn Bernardo and James Reid in a fresh new pairing, alongside Maja Salvador.

Together, these titles reflect the scale, range, and heart of Filipino storytelling — bringing together bold new ideas, familiar genres reimagined, and stories that speak to audiences at home and beyond.

The first look at the expanded world of BuyBust: The Undesirables was unveiled today at JAFF Creative Asia 2025 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Acclaimed Filipino director Erik Matti, together with Indonesia’s Joko Anwar, took center stage at today’s Creator-to-Creator session to spotlight Netflix’s continued commitment to investing in original content for the region’s library and exploring the brand’s role in the ever-evolving opportunities available to creatives across the region.

The filmmakers’ session served as the perfect platform to announce Netflix’s first collaboration with Matti, whose creative direction and meticulous character exploration in BuyBust: The Undesirables make the project one to watch out for. The clip offered a glimpse into the depth of Matti’s world-building and reintroduced viewers to several returning characters from the 2018 film, including Anne Curtis and the addition of Gerald Anderson, alongside a slate of new characters and an even bolder narrative that pushes the original story to new heights.

During his panel at JAFF, Matti shared that shortly after the film’s release in 2018, they partnered with Netflix Philippines to expand the original Buybust universe through a 9-episode series set to be released sometime in 2026. When asked about the expanded universe of BuyBust on Netflix and what it will focus on, he said “We moved on from the drug war story and we made it about rich and poor — the powerful and the powerless. We wanted to talk about the Philippines as a country and whether it was impossible to ‘clean it up’ without going political. We are focusing on real characters and the real conflicts of each of them.”

BuyBust: The Undesirables is poised to underscore not only Netflix’s ongoing commitment to expanding its repository of robust original Southeast Asian titles, but also the brand’s dedication to elevating the most compelling and distinctive creative voices in the region.

Watch the first look clip below.

A vengeful ex-cop (Curtis) and a haunted corporate outcast (Anderson) are drawn together by the murder of a senator’s daughter and a citywide manhunt for the mysterious drug lord known only as “Judas.” When the trail leads to Matungao, an anarchic exile zone outside the Capital where the rule of law has long been abandoned, the two unlikely allies must navigate betrayal at every turn, unmask the real Judas, and decide how much of themselves they’re willing to sacrifice in a society that treats human life as disposable.

BUYBUST: THE UNDESIRABLES IS COMING TO NETFLIX IN 2026.
