The Eight Best Things from Ariana Grande’s The Honeymoon Tour in Manila

She’s been compared to some of the best female vocalists including Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.

Whether you watch her performances on YouTube or live in concert, it’s no surprise that Ariana Grande can sing any song, her voice is always on point. Unlike other young artists today, lip syncing is not part of her routine when performing live. Grande’s August 23 concert at the Mall of Asia Arena, complete with an opening act from a DJ Tom Taus, who gave us amazing remixes and killer tracks, showed off her vocal skills filled with unforgettable moments.

1. Perfect Opening Song

Ariana Grande kicked-off the night with a high-level performance of Bang Bang. She appeared on stage wearing a black outfit which reminded me of a Playboy bunny costume with thigh-high boots and male dancers. When I found out that she’s heading to Manila for a show, I couldn’t think any song way better than Bang Bang to open the tour, definitely a perfect song to boost more energy.

2. Live singing

Nowadays, it’s normal where artist lip syncs the whole show or most of the songs, I was refreshed and glad to see that she actually sang all the songs. To elaborate further on Grande’s stage presence, she’s very energetic, in-tune with, focused on her music and professional.

3. The stage design, visuals and production were amazing

They put 2 LEDs and a massive widescreen at the center of the stage for decent viewing. The props and stage were impressive, as were the dancers. It helped to bring her music to life. The whole design was not too simple, nor too heavy. I did not hear any sound distortion. It would be much better if they had the same set up in the US with hanging clouds and chandelier.

4. High notes during Break Free

Until this moment, the high notes that she pulled off during Break Free is playing on my mind. On this song, Ariana sang with more intensity and great chops. A performance that I won’t soon forget.

5. Setlist

The setlist was good from start to finish, including all of her chart-topping hits, fan favorites and all. She did not perform a few older tracks but I was totally satisfied, 18-song set was incredibly awesome for having 2 albums.

6. Mashup

At one point of the show, parents who brought their kids were able to relate because she did perform a mashup of Whitney Houston’s I’m Every Woman and Madonna’s Vogue.

7. Diversity

One of the best things of this show was the diversity of the concert-goers. There were screaming teenage girls and mini-mes who adore Ariana Grande, elderly people and parents who bought tickets for their kids and to enjoy the music as well. The concert was family-friendly and incredible.

8. She performed a song not originally included on the setlist.

“I don’t usually do this, I think I’ve only done it on tour one time, but I want to do something special for you guys.” she said before giving us a mind-blowing performance of I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston. Everyone in the arena surely felt the emotion through her voice. The vocals during this performance perfectly showed that she has found her place in the music business. This was her defining moment of The Honeymoon Tour in Manila, the moment where I looked my friend and said out “OMG Ariana can really sing!!” I can say that she’s the best female vocalist under 25 today.

Overall, Ariana exceeded my expectations. As expensive as concerts are these days, this one was so worth it. She performed for an hour and 30 minutes. The entire set was really stunning and the experience was unforgettable. You just can’t walk away disappointed after watching her concert. Her killer vocals will leave you in awe and wanting more. She was born to be a star. Whether you’re a big fan or not, you will feel great to witness her talent. I’m excited to see what the future holds and can’t wait for her third album. We love you harder Ariana Grande, looking forward for your next show in Manila, hopefully in 2017.
