  • An Amazingly Fun Night with Park Seo Jun

An Amazingly Fun Night with Park Seo Jun

Wilbros Live and IAM Worldwide brought Park Seo Jun back to the Philippines on October 14 for a fun meet. It was an amazing night especially for fans who have been waiting for so long to see him, whether for the first time or to see him again.

And what an entrance it was when it was time for Park Seo Jun to go on stage. Screams filled the Araneta Coliseum as the lights flashed and smoke and fireworks filled the stage. Park Seo Jun could be seen on the LED screen from backstage as he made his entrance.

Once on stage, he introduced himself in English, “Hello I’m Seo Jun Park. I’m happy to join you tonight. Thank you for inviting me IAM. IAM Worldwide Amazing.”

For the first segment of the show, host Sam Oh asked him a couple of questions to catch up with him.

Park Seo Jun shared that he finished filming a drama, and how he balances work and personal time, as well as how he would love to go to the Philippines for vacation.

The next segment called “Park at your own wish” was where they shared the answers to questions they had asked fans about Park Seo Jun and if his answers would match theirs.

The questions ranged from what fashion style would they prefer Park Seo Jun to wear, what superpower he wished he had, as well as what food would they like him to try while in the Philippines.

When asked about which genre of music he would listen to during a road trip, he answered, “BTS is the best.”

After that, he played a game of Never-Have-I-Ever but it was called “Let’s Seo Them.” He was asked a number of questions like if he had ever Googled himself, traveled solo, and prepared dinner for friends.

Next was a segment called “Seo and Tell” where they showed a collection of photos and videos from Park Seo Jun’s social media pages while talking about it. For example, a selfie of him at the gym was shown and Sam Oh asked how many times a week he exercised, and he said about 3-4 times a week.

A few fans were also chosen to play games on stage: writing Park Seo Jun’s name in Korean as well as a ring toss game. There were a total of four winners and they were lucky to not only get signed merchandise from Park Seo Jun, but also a photo and a hug.

Sam Oh then read a couple of fan messages and Park Seo Jun responded to each one. One fan was lucky enough to get a birthday greeting from him. Aside from this, fans even surprised Park Seo Jun with a fan video.

After Park Seo Jun’s farewell message, he went around on stage waving to as many fans as he could while confetti rained on stage. What a fun and unforgettable night for Park Seo Jun fans!

OneRepublic put up a remarkable show in Manila

    Courtesy of Wilbros Live

OneRepublic, an American pop rock and Grammy-nominated band, returned to Manila last Thursday, February 23, 2023 for their first solo concert in nearly 10 years.

Successful Big Dome comeback! After Canadian singer Jessia took the stage and played some of her own songs, including “But I Don’t,” “One of the Guys,” “Nobody Hates You,” and “I’m Not Pretty.” One Republic took the stage and opened their set with “Secrets,” the band’s second hit off of their sophomore album, 2009’s Waking Up studio album, followed by another song from the same album, where Ryan [Frontman] tweaks some lyrics, “Where I’ve been for the past few years or so, from Paris to Manila to Colorado” from “Good Life.”

Ryan got the chance to address the audience before going on to the band’s third song, saying “We absolutely love, love it here in the Philippines. We’ve been coming here since, I think, 2009? And this building has a lot of history; it’s a sacred place that I don’t think exists anywhere else in the world. We’ve played in about 90 countries, and if people ask me in interviews — and you can look this up on the internet — what country loves music the most, I always say “The Philippines.” “You guys feel music like no other country on the planet; you can sing better than anyone. It’s been 3 years; it’s been a long time since that weird virus, but now that we’re over it, we can hang out together. Let’s have an incredible evening.” “Thank you for showing up tonight, Manila!” He introduces the next song as the second song they ever put out and a song that kept them together as a band. They performed “Stop and Stare,” followed by their lead single off their fifth studio album, “Human,” “Rescue Me.”

The band, which started in Colorado Springs, has kept their upbeat approach and huge ball of energy. They haven’t wasted any time going from one song to the next. They took off with “Wherever I Go” and glided to a soft landing on “Love Runs Out.”

Ryan went back to talking to the crowd, introducing their next set. He explained that they will be playing most of their hits. He said they’ve been a band for 16 years, and he’s also been writing songs for hundreds of other artists, naming everyone from Taylor Swift [he even sang a piece of Welcome to New York] to Paul McCartney to Ed Sheeran to Lil Nas X, Beyoncé, and LANY. He also bragged about his family living in the Philippines for the last 30–40 years, telling him that the Philippines sang better than any country in the world. “Nobody sings better than the people in the Philippines.” He also said that in 16 years, they have done mostly OneRepublic songs, but in Manila, they will play a concert inside a concert, a cue for a medley of songs starting from Beyoncé’s love letter to Jay-Z, “Halo.” Here, he took the opportunity to command his crowd as a master conductor for an arena of choirs as he let Manila participate with him in singing the highs and lows of this song, and it sounded pleasingly beautiful.

He also highlighted how “Rumor Has It” began for Adele. He also said that it is impossible to predict which song will be a success during the composition process. He shared that while writing “Apologize,” he didn’t have the idea; he was just writing a song for a bunch of girls who broke his heart in high school—these 2 or 3 girls that “destroyed” him in high school and college—while moving us to the most played song of 2022, Lil Nas X’s “That’s What I Want” to “Sucker,” where lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Tedder hyped up the crowd by going off stage and walking towards the audience towards the end of the song.

The crowd stayed just as interested until “Lose Somebody” by Kygo and OneRepublic and “I Ain’t Worried,” the second and final singles from the Top Gun: Maverick (2022) soundtrack, came on.

OneRepublic played a wide variety of instruments, including the cello, violin, acoustic guitar, and xylophone. Occasionally, Tedder would take to the piano, as he did for a more mellow and stripped-down rendition of their 2007 smash hit “Apologize.” It went to number one in sixteen countries with their first album, Dreaming Out Loud, and got them a Grammy nomination. Here, they turned the audience into a massive choir, orchestrated by Ryan himself, giving everyone chills and confirming, “This is by far the best choir we had out of 45 countries.”

The undying energy was sustained all throughout the night, as the band played one song after another without even stopping to take a breath. The band ended the night by performing their popular songs “I Lived,” “Counting Stars,” and “Lose Myself,” giving their Filipino fans an ultimate performance to remember.

The energy given by OneRepublic left their crowd wanting more and proved that they are worth the wait. Tedder said, “It’d be a dream to perform here two to three nights in a row, even better.” OneRepublic was in the country last October 2019 for the International Justice Mission, joining their fight against slavery. The voice, energy, talent, and magic they possess on stage are just incredible. We are left enthusiastic about this band; we can’t help but want more sing-alongs with them.

  • Boyce Avenue will headline their biggest show yet in the Philippines

Boyce Avenue will headline their biggest show yet in the Philippines

After a long absence, the “Boyce” family is returning to the Philippines. For the week of Valentine’s Day, one of the most popular independent bands in the world, Boyce Avenue, is making a comeback. Scheduled performances in Manila’s Araneta Coliseum on the 11th, Cebu’s Waterfront Hotel Ballroom on the 12th, and Davao’s SMX Convention Center on the 14th have been announced. Adie, Nobita, and (for the Manila performance alone) The Juans, three of today’s biggest names in O.P.M., will also be performing.

Alejandro, the band’s main singer, discussed what makes their Filipino fans unique during a Zoom interview with the press on Wednesday.

“There’s a deeper level of passion, seems to be kind of interwoven in the Filipino culture to be a very romantic culture and that’s such a big part of what we do.”

He added, “crowd sings so passionately in the Philippines especially to the love songs so that’s kind of something that’s always struck us that seems to be just at a heightened level.”

The members of the Boyce Avenue band all grew up in the same neighborhood in Sarasota, Florida, hence the band’s name. The three Manzano brothers, Alejandro (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Fabian (guitar, vocals), and Daniel, make up the band, which is well-liked for its acoustic leanings (bass, percussion, vocals). The band first performed together in 2004, and in 2007, they started uploading videos to YouTube, where they quickly became popular. They are one of the most popular channels in the world, with over 13.2 million subscribers and over 4.8 billion views on YouTube.

When we asked how their upcoming concert would be different from previous shows they’ve done in the country, Alejandro replied, “We will play songs that we didn’t play last time we were there, but I’m just on a deeper emotional level; I think there’s just a different perspective now, post-pandemic, and I think there’s a level of gratitude for everybody.”

The singer-songwriter Adie has over 3.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify Philippines thanks to the popularity of his songs “Paraluman,” “Tahanan,” “Dungaw,” and “Mahika,” which features Janine Berdin. The OPM band Nobita exploded onto the spotlight with the megahit “Ikaw Lang” and the wedding-themed track “Unang Sayaw,” and they also set a new career benchmark by accruing over 130 million views on Spotify. In addition, the pop rock band The Juans, who released the number one singles “Hindi Tayo Pwede” and “Hatid,” and recently played their first major concert at the Big Dome in Manila, are also there.

“I think this is kind of the most local acts we’ve ever had open up for us, so I think it’s not only going to be our show but a whole night filled with a bunch of good music. I think it’s going to be a pretty massive and pretty cool event.

Join Boyce Avenue and some of your favorite O.P.M. hitmakers for a special Valentine’s Day musical performance of some of your favorite love and hugot songs.”

  • 10 Times Cha Eun Woo Smitten Us With His PAK NA PAK Charms In “Just One Ten Minute” In Manila

10 Times Cha Eun Woo Smitten Us With His PAK NA PAK Charms In “Just One Ten Minute” In Manila

    Written by Danica Lacson

With his undeniable good looks and seemingly limitless charms, Cha Eun Woo will surely make you swoon that it no longer surprised us that his first ever solo fan meeting in Manila was a sold-out show — filled with his adoring fans who have waited three years to see him once again on the local concert stage.

Hundreds of fans flocked the New Frontier Theater on October 26 for the Manila leg of the 2019 CHA EUN WOO FIRST FAN MEETING <JUST ONE TEN MINUTE> which saw him visit five cities in Asia including Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. Manila served as the second to the last stop of his fan meeting tour.

And because we can’t get enough of the ASTRO member and that memorable night, we relive the pak na pak moments that got us falling head over heels with Cha Eun Woo over and over again.

    (Photo from Wilbros Live)

#1 Yi Rim, we mean Cha Eun Woo, serenading Arohas in hanbok

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung may be over, wrapping its 40-episode run in September after almost two months, but Cha Eun Woo will not let us move on. The ASTRO member brought Yi Rim, his character in the drama, to the Philippines as he channels the prince during his opening number!

Dressed in hanbok (Korean traditional clothing), Cha Eun Woo serenaded the crowd with “Please Remember”, his official soundtrack for the drama. During the talk portion, the singer-actor revealed that the hanbok he wore is the same hanbok he wore during the filming of the drama.

#2 Going back in time to pre-debut Cha Eun Woo with the CHApago Challenge

In case you did not know, a little over a month before debuting as a member of ASTRO in 2016, Cha Eun Woo participated in the well-known entertainment program Star Golden Bell Challenge. Although he used his real name Lee Dong Min, the show’s host still found out his stage name.

Fast forward to three years after, Lee Dong Min is now known worldwide as ASTRO’s vocalist and the face genius Cha Eun Woo. Still, despite his huge popularity all over the world, the singer-actor used his fan meeting as an opportunity to look back on his Star Golden Bell Challenge stint through the CHApago Challenge where his memory was tested.

It was truly a nostalgic moment because he also wore the same style of clothing he donned back then — complete with the red cap!

    (Photo from Wilbros Live)

#3 When he re-enacted a scene from Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung!

We screamed “cute”! The ASTRO member was too adorable for words when he re-enacted his reaction in the drama after getting a kiss on the cheek from Goo Hae Ryung, played by Shin Se Kyung.

Asked if he is also as thoughtful as his character Yi Rim in real life to the extent that he prepares meals for others, he said he cooks ramyeon for his members. But given the chance, he wants to cook traditional Korean food for his fans with the message “Mahal ko kayo“. *melts

#4 Every time he talks about his members

We felt how much Arohas miss ASTRO and their desire to see the boys stand on the Philippine concert stage again because every time Cha Eun Woo mentions his members, the crowd goes wild! But more so, we felt the close bond and affection of the boys through the stories the singer-actor shared about them.

According to him, their leader Jin Jin takes care of them well that when eating out, he usually grills the meat for them. Without Jin Jin, Cha Eun Woo takes the initiative to grill the meat because the rest of the members don’t really know how to do it. He went on to say that Jin Jin, MJ, Moonbin, Rocky, and Sanha told him to meet Arohas well during his fan meeting tour. (Excuse us while we cry in the corner for a minute.)

#5 That swoon-worthy “Love Yourself” performance with a piano

Cha Eun Woo reminded us of how talented he is when he performed Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself”. Giving his own rendition to the song, the singer-actor impressed with his piano skills and sweet voice. It was a cute and romantic moment, with fans gamely singing along and lightsticks up in the air forming a beautiful ocean.

#6 Surprising Arohas with “Kathang Isip” song number

Probably the highlight of the night, Cha Eun Woo made everyone’s jaw-drop when he started singing along to the familiar melody — Ben & Ben’s “Kathang Isip”! It was a beautiful moment that overwhelmed us with so much feels and admiration for him. Arohas were deeply touched by the effort he put into learning the song and singing it beautiful. Come on! What can’t Cha Eun Woo do?

#7 Melting us once again with his aegyo

We are weak for shy Cha Eun Woo to be honest. What started as a confident display of basketball skills — he got 16 shots in *applause applause* — came the failed showcase of soccer skills — it was the basket’s fault, right, Eun Woo? Although he failed to fulfill his mission of getting seven balls in by kicking in the time allotted, we are not, in any bit, complaining because we got cute Cha Eun Woo!

The ASTRO member was all shy to do the aegyo penalty (He was so cute while being shy trying to be cute). But for his Arohas, he did it, not once, not twice, but thrice!

#8 Making a special dreamcatcher for Arohas to get good sleep

The treats for his beloved Arohas did not end with the “Be Mine” aegyo because he had more up his sleeves. For his fans to get a good night sleep, he made two dreamcatchers! “I made this so that you will have good dreams in your sleep and not have nightmares,” he said. *gets kilig over and over again

Two lucky fans took home the dreamcatchers and we are 100 percent sure they will have the best sleeps!

#9 Bringing more colors to the night with a performance of “Rainbow Falling”

On his final song number that night, Cha Eun Woo took us back to the drama got us believing that a handsome guy will love us regardless of our physical appearance. The singer- actor, who received much love for his character as Do Kyung Seok in the drama My ID is Gangnam Beauty, performed “Rainbow Falling”, his original soundtrack for the JTBC drama.

    #10 Promising to come back

Although we officially said our farewell to Cha Eun Woo that night, we are holding on to his promise that he will come back! And we are keeping our fingers crossed that the next time he comes to the Philippines, he will be with Jin Jin, MJ, Moonbin, Rocky, and Sanha because we surely need an ASTRO solo concert soon!

We are capping off this list with that hopeful wish while also smiling from ear-to-ear as we remember all those kilig moments from the 2019 CHA EUN WOO FIRST FAN MEETING <JUST ONE TEN MINUTE> at the New Frontier Theater last October 26.

Philippine Concerts extends its gratitude to Wilbros Live for having us. And although the year is approaching its final two months, Wilbros Live has another kilig-filled show for Korean drama fans in November!

South Korean actor-model Jang Ki Yong, who captivated viewers with his charms in Go Back CoupleCome and Hug Me, Kill It, and Search WWW, is coming to the Philippines for his first ever solo fan meeting. Wilbros Live is bringing 2019 JANG KI YONG 1ST FAN MEETING IN MANILA <FILMOGRAPHY> at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura on November 17. Tickets to the show are now on sale via SM Tickets.
