    The wait comes to a thrilling close as Bagets The Musical reveals the cast for the final lead role. Mico Hendrix Chua is set to play the new-generation Adie, the baby-faced charmer first made iconic by Aga Muhlach in the beloved 1984 coming-of-age classic. Get ready to swoon over his dimples and boy-next-door vibe as he brings a fresh twist to the 2026 stage adaptation.

    Chua makes an acting comeback as Adie
    The rising artist has been on stage since his teens, performing in local theaters in Iloilo before making the move to Manila. In 2021, he joined the reality show Born to Be a Star, which earned him a contract with VIVA. “After I signed, I had to move to Dubai, where I worked multiple jobs while studying,” he recalls. “I started as an admissions counselor, then became an administrator.” Despite the hiatus, the 22-year-old never let go of his love for the craft. “I had a pretty stable life abroad, but deep down, my heart was always with performing,” says Chua. “I can always go back to that life, but I’m not getting any younger. I want to give my all to what I truly love.” Now back in the Philippines, the stars have aligned for him. “This is my first project since I returned. During the auditions, I was anxious, especially with so many callbacks,” he continues. “At first, I didn’t expect anything. But the more I went through the process, the more I wanted the character.”

    In the shoes of a classic
    Interestingly, Chua’s initial choice was not Adie. He had hoped to play Topee, a role he felt connected to because of their shared accent. The switch, however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. “We’re a lot more alike than I thought,” he reflects. “I think many can relate when I say we’ve all had that time in our lives when we were young, naive, and just letting our emotions get the best of us.” The artist acknowledges moments of peer pressure and recklessness in his past—qualities that make embodying Adie feel like reconnecting with an old version of himself. Fans may remember the persona as a slightly confused romantic who juggles love, crushes, and meaningful connections. “I’ve had those encounters before—stealing glances at your crush and all. But it’s all in the past now,” he says. “I think I’ve matured since then.” The beauty of Bagets The Musical is that we can relive those moments and savor all the joy and buoyancy of youth.

    Rising to the challenge
    Though he relates to the character, Chua admits the weight of portraying such an icon was real. “The pressure went higher, but it’s also a great challenge,” he concludes. “It means I get to give my best and portray someone as legendary as Aga Muhlach. I’m excited and deeply honored.” The rising star rounds out the new-generation lineup of Bagets The Musical. He will alternate performances with another VIVA artist, to be announced soon.

    Bagets The Musical is scheduled to run from January 23 to March 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Joining Chua in the lead cast are Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez as Gilbert, Milo Cruz and Migo Valid as Tonton, Ethan David and KD Estrada as Arnel, and Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf as Topee.

    The musical is a joint production of VIVA Communications Inc, The Philippine STAR, and Newport World Resorts, guided by the creative vision of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Plus, with director Maribel Legarda, playwright J-mee Katanyag, and musical director Vince Lim. Bagets the Musical is also supported through a partnership with Sun Life Philippines.

    Billyrrom has rapidly gained attention from both domestic and international fans following their appearances at renown music festivals such as FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’24, GIGANTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024, RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL 2024, SPACE SHOWER SWEET LOVE SHOWER, ONE PARK FESTIVAL 2024, METROCK 2024, and GREENROOM FESTIVAL ’24.

    The six-piece band also recently performed at “Carnival Fever Festival 2024” in Taiwan in May and returned in early September for the multinational festival “Jam Jam Asia” performing alongside artists from Taiwan as well as across Asia.

    Billyrrom has been chosen as Japan’s representative for  “Fender Next ™” 2024, a Fender Next Generation Artist Support Program that has selected 25 promising talents out of 1,000 artists worldwide.

    SKYGARDEN collaborates with Jillian Ward for new single “Soredemo (Kahit Na)”

    Japanese trio SKYGARDEN, composed of Ryo Nagatsuka, Hiro Ozaki, and Iwa Maegawa, has teamed up with Star of the New Gen and Sparkle artist Jillian Ward for their new single Soredemo (Kahit Na). This powerful song speaks about a love that defies the odds and stands strong despite challenges.

    “Soredemo (Kahit Na),” meaning “Even Though” in English, tells the story of two people whose love seems impossible but remains unshaken. It’s a message of resilience and commitment, showing that no matter what obstacles stand in the way, their love will endure.

    The song’s concept emerged during a casual studio session back in late 2022. Hiro recalls the moment as an impromptu jam that turned into something more. 

    “It’s about saying ‘I love you’ even when it feels like the odds are against you,” the group’s lead singer Ryo shared. 

    Jillian’s involvement brought a special touch to the project. Her voice added an extra layer of emotion and depth. 

    “After listening to our first demo, we felt that a female voice is needed to balance the song’s narrative. That’s when we scrolled through our Instagram feed and discovered Jillian’s love for Japanese culture. When we met her, we thought it might be difficult because of the different languages, but Jillian was so committed. She practiced hard and gave the song a fresh, sweet sound,” said Ryo. 

    “She was very cute but strict and disciplined with herself. She never hesitated to ask us how to pronounce certain phrases perfectly,” Iwa added.

    Musically, Soredemo (Kahit Na) showcases SKYGARDEN’s evolving sound. While they are known for their upbeat, fast-paced J-Rock style, this track leans towards a more melancholic ballad. Hiro described it as a blend of their J-Rock roots with the heartfelt style of OPM (Original Pilipino Music). “Living in the Philippines has influenced our music,” Ryo added. “We’ve infused Filipino traits into this song while still maintaining our J-Rock base.”

    The band hopes Soredemo (Kahit Na) will resonate especially with Gen Z listeners. Ryo expressed that many younger people today struggle to express their feelings or face challenges head-on. “We hope this song encourages them to stay strong, not only in love but also in other difficult moments in life,” he said.

    Looking ahead, SKYGARDEN teased exciting new projects, including live performances and collaborations. “We’re working on new music, live performances, and more surprises for our fans,” Hiro hinted. Ryo expressed his desire to work with Sanya Lopez, noting her impressive vocal work on her song Furusato. Meanwhile, Iwa shared his wish to collaborate with Michael V, adding a touch of humor: “I’d love to do a comedy version of Soredemo (Kahit Na) with him.”

    ENM was born alongside the recent emo revival, with the return of beloved bands like Saosin, Simple Plan, Silverstein, Boys Like Girls, and Fall Out Boy to Manila.     July 12th, 2024 – Fresh from the RADWIMPS WORLD TOUR 2024 “The way you yawn, and the outcry of Peace,” singer-songwriter and RADWIMPS frontman, Yojiro Noda, is thrilled to release the new song “LAST LOVE LETTER” from his solo album, ‘WONDER BOY’S AKUMU CLUB’, set for release on September 25.     The album is a collection of Noda’s personal story with a total of 13 tracks, including “EVERGREEN feat. kZm”, released this April, which features much acclaimed Japanese rapper kZm and “KATATOKI,” a collaboration track with American rapper J.I.D featured on the game “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name”. Noda shares, “I am releasing my first album as Yojiro Noda. I became a band member of RADWIMPS at the age of 15, and while the band remains the core of my musical existence, I started to wonder what it’s like to play around carelessly and freely and swim through the ocean of sound with the approach that I can only try at present time. So for the past 2 years, when I found time, I created music, trying out different things and ended up with these 13 songs through struggles and many moments when I almost gave up. The process was fun. I wasn’t trying to write good songs, but I think I created a great album. I want to thank Kuwahara and Takeda who participated in a few of the tracks, and HOLLY for giving me the idea to start working on this album.”

    As part of this exciting release, the Limited Edition CD comes with a T-shirt featuring the original character “AKUMU-KUN” created by the manga artist and illustrator Posuka Demizu. Originated from Noda’s idea to express his solo project with an icon that can freely embody his music, through numerous exchanges of ideas between Demizu and Noda, the one-and-only “AKUMU-KUN” came into life as universal and invincible character based on the image of Noda as a model.
