    How Very! Heathers the Musical Takes Over Manila This January 2027!

    Ready your scrunchies, grab your lunch trays, and sharpen those pencils. GMG Productions in association with Bill Kenwright Ltd. and Paul Taylor-Mills, proudly present Heathers the Musical, coming to Manila for a limited run from January 21 to February 7, 2027, at The Theatre at Solaire.

    Following record-breaking seasons and sold-out runs in London, New York and Melbourne, Heathers the Musical makes its highly anticipated Manila debut, bringing its wicked humour, unforgettable characters and mercilessly catchy score to Filipino audiences.

    Based on the iconic 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers the Musical first premiered in Los Angeles in 2013 to sold-out audiences before transferring to New York’s New World Stages in 2014. The production was reimagined for its 2018 London debut, introducing new songs and an updated script.

    At Westerberg High, popularity is a matter of life and death—and Veronica Sawyer is just another nobody dreaming of a better day. That changes when she is unexpectedly taken under the wing of the three beautiful, powerful and impossibly cruel Heathers. Suddenly, Veronica has everything she ever wanted: status, attention and a seat at the popular table.

    Then J.D., the mysterious teen rebel, arrives and turns Veronica’s world upside down. As she gets caught between her newfound popularity and the pressure to keep up appearances, Veronica soon discovers that being a somebody isn’t always as glamorous as it seems.

    Featuring a mercilessly catchy mix of ballads and bangers – including fan-favorite songs such as “Seventeen”, “Candy Store”, “Meant To Be Yours”, “I Say No”, and “Dead Girl Walking” – by award-winning writers Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde The Musical), Heathers the Musical is directed by acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman.

    Leading the Manila cast as Veronica Sawyer is Filipino performer Gerardine Sacdalan, who takes on the iconic role for the Philippine premiere of Heathers the Musical. She will be joined by Louis Hearsey as Jason “J.D.” Dean, Liberty Stottor as the incomparable Heather Chandler, Jessica Ibadin as Heather Duke, and Lou Henry as Heather McNamara.

    The Manila cast also features Veronica Carabai as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom, Sophie Manners as Martha Dunnstock, Markus Södergren as Kurt Kelly, Beau Jackson as Ram Sweeney, John Gurdían  as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, and Reuben Browne as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan.

    Rounding out the cast are Christian De-Gallerie as Preppy Stud/Officer, Ellouise Delooze as New Wave Party Girl, Caitlin Garcia as Drama Club Drama Queen, Alexander Howarth as Hipster Dork, Charlotte O’Rourke as Midwestern Surfer Punk, Thomas Oxley as Beleaguered Geek, Tola Sokoya as Young Republicanette, and Carys Taylor as Stoner Chick.

    Since its sold-out Los Angeles premiere in 2013 and New York debut in 2014, Heathers has gone on to three smash-hit West End seasons, multiple sold-out UK and Ireland tours, and a 2019 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical. In 2022, the production was filmed and streamed globally via The Roku Channel. Most recently, the show broke records at New York’s New World Stages, opening in June 2025 with the venue’s biggest advance sale in history and extending immediately due to overwhelming demand.

    Heathers the Musical is directed by acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman, with choreography by Gary Lloyd, design by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell, sound by Dan Samson, musical supervision by Jeremy Wootton and Will Joy, and is produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd. and Paul Taylor-Mills.

    BIGBANG’s return to Asia will start at the Taipei Dome, followed by a performance at the Singapore National Stadium. The tour will then head to Hanoi at the My Dinh National Stadium, and then the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok. The Asia tour will continue in 2027, with stops in Kuala Lumpur at the TM Stadium Nasional, Jakarta International Stadium, the SMDC Festival Grounds in Manila and finally conclude at the Kaohsiung National Stadium.

    IAM Worldwide celebrates its 9th Anniversary in a big way with “9RACE” (GRACE), an anniversary celebration and music festival – featuring Secondhand Serenade, Apl de Ap, IYAZ, KZ Tandingan, TJ Monterde, and Dionela on October 4, 2026 at the Araneta Coliseum. Organized by Wilbros Live.

    Leading the international line-up is Secondhand Serenade, the acclaimed emo-pop project of singer-songwriter John Vesely, best known for the multi-platinum anthem “Fall For You,” along with fan favorites “Your Call,” “Vulnerable,” and “A Twist in My Story.”

    Mico Hendrix Chua joins Bagets The Musical with charm, kilig, and a nod to the iconic Aga Muhlach role

    The wait comes to a thrilling close as Bagets The Musical reveals the cast for the final lead role. Mico Hendrix Chua is set to play the new-generation Adie, the baby-faced charmer first made iconic by Aga Muhlach in the beloved 1984 coming-of-age classic. Get ready to swoon over his dimples and boy-next-door vibe as he brings a fresh twist to the 2026 stage adaptation.

    Chua makes an acting comeback as Adie
    The rising artist has been on stage since his teens, performing in local theaters in Iloilo before making the move to Manila. In 2021, he joined the reality show Born to Be a Star, which earned him a contract with VIVA. “After I signed, I had to move to Dubai, where I worked multiple jobs while studying,” he recalls. “I started as an admissions counselor, then became an administrator.” Despite the hiatus, the 22-year-old never let go of his love for the craft. “I had a pretty stable life abroad, but deep down, my heart was always with performing,” says Chua. “I can always go back to that life, but I’m not getting any younger. I want to give my all to what I truly love.” Now back in the Philippines, the stars have aligned for him. “This is my first project since I returned. During the auditions, I was anxious, especially with so many callbacks,” he continues. “At first, I didn’t expect anything. But the more I went through the process, the more I wanted the character.”

    In the shoes of a classic
    Interestingly, Chua’s initial choice was not Adie. He had hoped to play Topee, a role he felt connected to because of their shared accent. The switch, however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. “We’re a lot more alike than I thought,” he reflects. “I think many can relate when I say we’ve all had that time in our lives when we were young, naive, and just letting our emotions get the best of us.” The artist acknowledges moments of peer pressure and recklessness in his past—qualities that make embodying Adie feel like reconnecting with an old version of himself. Fans may remember the persona as a slightly confused romantic who juggles love, crushes, and meaningful connections. “I’ve had those encounters before—stealing glances at your crush and all. But it’s all in the past now,” he says. “I think I’ve matured since then.” The beauty of Bagets The Musical is that we can relive those moments and savor all the joy and buoyancy of youth.

    Rising to the challenge
    Though he relates to the character, Chua admits the weight of portraying such an icon was real. “The pressure went higher, but it’s also a great challenge,” he concludes. “It means I get to give my best and portray someone as legendary as Aga Muhlach. I’m excited and deeply honored.” The rising star rounds out the new-generation lineup of Bagets The Musical. He will alternate performances with another VIVA artist, to be announced soon.

    Bagets The Musical is scheduled to run from January 23 to March 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Joining Chua in the lead cast are Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez as Gilbert, Milo Cruz and Migo Valid as Tonton, Ethan David and KD Estrada as Arnel, and Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf as Topee.

    The musical is a joint production of VIVA Communications Inc, The Philippine STAR, and Newport World Resorts, guided by the creative vision of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Plus, with director Maribel Legarda, playwright J-mee Katanyag, and musical director Vince Lim.     Genre-defying band Billyrrom, known for their unique sound, which blends soul, funk with rock influences – coined as “Tokyo Transition Soul” – has released their 1st album! Titled WiND, the 11-track record includes previously released singles “DUNE”, “Windy You” and “Once Upon A Night”.

    Billyrrom has rapidly gained attention from both domestic and international fans following their appearances at renown music festivals such as FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’24, GIGANTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024, RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL 2024, SPACE SHOWER SWEET LOVE SHOWER, ONE PARK FESTIVAL 2024, METROCK 2024, and GREENROOM FESTIVAL ’24.

    The six-piece band also recently performed at “Carnival Fever Festival 2024” in Taiwan in May and returned in early September for the multinational festival “Jam Jam Asia” performing alongside artists from Taiwan as well as across Asia.

    Billyrrom has been chosen as Japan’s representative for  “Fender Next ™” 2024, a Fender Next Generation Artist Support Program that has selected 25 promising talents out of 1,000 artists worldwide.

    SKYGARDEN collaborates with Jillian Ward for new single “Soredemo (Kahit Na)”

    Japanese trio SKYGARDEN, composed of Ryo Nagatsuka, Hiro Ozaki, and Iwa Maegawa, has teamed up with Star of the New Gen and Sparkle artist Jillian Ward for their new single Soredemo (Kahit Na). This powerful song speaks about a love that defies the odds and stands strong despite challenges.

    “Soredemo (Kahit Na),” meaning “Even Though” in English, tells the story of two people whose love seems impossible but remains unshaken. It’s a message of resilience and commitment, showing that no matter what obstacles stand in the way, their love will endure.

    The song’s concept emerged during a casual studio session back in late 2022. Hiro recalls the moment as an impromptu jam that turned into something more. 

    “It’s about saying ‘I love you’ even when it feels like the odds are against you,” the group’s lead singer Ryo shared. 

    Jillian’s involvement brought a special touch to the project. Her voice added an extra layer of emotion and depth. 

    “After listening to our first demo, we felt that a female voice is needed to balance the song’s narrative. That’s when we scrolled through our Instagram feed and discovered Jillian’s love for Japanese culture. When we met her, we thought it might be difficult because of the different languages, but Jillian was so committed. She practiced hard and gave the song a fresh, sweet sound,” said Ryo. 

    “She was very cute but strict and disciplined with herself. She never hesitated to ask us how to pronounce certain phrases perfectly,” Iwa added.

    Musically, Soredemo (Kahit Na) showcases SKYGARDEN’s evolving sound. While they are known for their upbeat, fast-paced J-Rock style, this track leans towards a more melancholic ballad. Hiro described it as a blend of their J-Rock roots with the heartfelt style of OPM (Original Pilipino Music). “Living in the Philippines has influenced our music,” Ryo added. “We’ve infused Filipino traits into this song while still maintaining our J-Rock base.”

    The band hopes Soredemo (Kahit Na) will resonate especially with Gen Z listeners. Ryo expressed that many younger people today struggle to express their feelings or face challenges head-on. “We hope this song encourages them to stay strong, not only in love but also in other difficult moments in life,” he said.

    Looking ahead, SKYGARDEN teased exciting new projects, including live performances and collaborations. “We’re working on new music, live performances, and more surprises for our fans,” Hiro hinted. Ryo expressed his desire to work with Sanya Lopez, noting her impressive vocal work on her song Furusato. Meanwhile, Iwa shared his wish to collaborate with Michael V, adding a touch of humor: “I’d love to do a comedy version of Soredemo (Kahit Na) with him.”

    In the song, De Leon talks about a guy who is instantly mesmerized by a girl and yearns for her attention. The title “Window” symbolizes his desire to connect with her.

    “The story of ‘Window’ is about a guy who falls in love at first sight with a girl and wants to get her attention. It’s very upbeat, so I hope the listeners will dance to it and find the song relatable,” De Leon explained.

    August 20, 2024 – City of Dreams Manila features successful actor and singer-songwriter Ariel Rivera at the 11th edition of Centerplay Concert Series happening for one night only on August 28 at 9 pm.

    The OPM (Original Pilipino Music) artist’s singing talent was discovered in 1989 and he rose to fame in the 1990’s as “Kilabot ng Kolehiyala”. The talented heartthrob’s first album was self-titled and released in 1991, which was quickly followed by a second album titled “Simple Lang” a year after. Both albums achieved triple platinum status. He was behind R&B and melodic pop music chart-topping hits including his first single “Sana Kahit Minsan”, “Simple Lang”, “Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin”, and “A Smile In Your Heart”.
