Bangkok came alive as Fujii Kaze, the renowned Japanese singer-songwriter and beloved artist among Thais, made a surprise appearance! He showed up at Paragon Parc on Friday, June 13th, to greet his Thai fans. Thousands of fans had been waiting since morning, undeterred by the rain, just to meet one of Japan’s most adored artists in Thailand right now and hear his first English song, “Hachikล.”

SB19 was joined by a spectacular roster of local and foreign acts, including Korean actor-singer Kim Won Shik and Kim Jisoo, who made a much-awaited comeback after his highly acclaimed performance in Bicol last December 2024. Emerging Filipino singer-songwriter Earl Agustin, as well as local favorites dwta and Fred Engay, also impressed the crowd, presenting the Philippines’ rich diversity and richness of music.
The festival experience provided more than just a music. Against the spectacular background of Mayon Volcano, the visitors got to experience hot air balloon exhibitions, paramotor fun flights, car drifting exhibitions, and culture tours, mixing entertainment with rich heritage of Bicol. The event highlighted TPB and LNPH’s initiative to boost concert tourism, with the goal of positioning the Philippines as a world-class music and cultural destination.

โWhen I watched the trailer, I already felt that the story was very different,โ shares the Bicol-born, Manila-based artist. โItโs not the usual love story you see in movies. Thatโs also how the song connects to the film. The original nursery rhyme is for kids but the way we used it in the song gave it a more serious feel, kind of like how the film talks about stuff people donโt usually talk about. Itโs like both the song and the film took something familiar and made it feel more real and grown-up. It proves that even things that seem light can carry real weight.โ
True to her roots as a storyteller and film enthusiast, dwta has always gravitated towards narratives that challenge convention. She sees Flower Girl as the type of film that aligns with her vision as an artist.

The โSantigwarโ act reveals, โI ended up enjoying the process so much that I made a list of other nursery rhymes/ children games I could write songs from. Kung Ikaw Ay Masaya is one of them. I guess what inspired me the most was the idea that even the simplest, happiest songs can have deeper meaning if you look at them from a different angle.โ
This isnโt her first foray into nursery rhymes-inspired music. Earlier, she released โSampung Mga Daliri,โ a nostalgic track turned bittersweet duet with SB19โs Justin and โNasusunog (Pants On Fire).โ The emotional juxtaposition between childhood joy and adult heartbreak, she explains, is what gives the songs their resonance.
โNursery rhymes are nostalgic for us and we usually associate them with childhood and happy times. But when you pair that song with a different story like heartbreak, it hits differently.โ
Produced by long-time collaborator Brian Lotho, โKung Ikaw Ay Masayaโ keeps things understated and intimate, with a stripped-back arrangement featuring only violin, guitar, and keyboard.

Rising solo artist JL Gaspar, formerly a member of P-Pop group PLUUS, has made a powerful mark with the release of his debut single โAlonโ on June 6, 2025. The track, which reflects JLโs emotional transition from his boy band days to a new chapter in global K-Pop, has now been officially announced as the theme song for GMA Networkโs Tagalized version of the hit K-Drama The Lovely Runner.
โAlonโ, a stirring pop ballad, beautifully complements the dramaโs themes of love, fate, and second chances. The showโstarring Kim Hye-yoon and Byeon Woo-seokโhas captivated audiences worldwide with its thrilling storyline, poignant romance, and layered performances. The choice of โAlonโ is especially fitting. Water is a frequently present element in the show. For example, Byeon Woo-seok’s character Sandro (Ryu Sun-Jae in the Korean original) is an ex-swimmer so there are scenes in the swimming pool. The couple also go to the beach to have a romantic getaway during their high school summer. More than this, the back-and-forth between the lead characters mirrors the turmoil of love portrayed in the song.
JLโs solo release comes on the heels of his victory in the Korean survival show Universe League, where he earned a coveted spot in an upcoming global K-Pop group. In addition, he is also the newly named honorary ambassador for I Like It Korea Milk, and recently met fans at Robinsons Magnolia last June 14.

This is the last part of the South Korean survival thriller series that has been making people around the world excited since it came out in 2021. The trailer, which came out on June 13, 2025, two weeks before the season’s June 27 release, gives us an exciting look at the emotional and high-stakes end of Seong Gi-hun’s quest.

This EP comes following the announcement of their [IN YOUR FANTASY] world tour, kicking off in Incheon on July 5 and taking the show through the U.S., Mexico, and Japan. ATEEZ will be heading to 11 cities in the U.S., as well as Mexico City at the end of August before taking the show to Japan. This tour takes them to new heights, as they bring their immersive performances to even bigger venues, hitting five stadiums in North America with two nights at the BMO Stadium again.

With music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Come From Away, in its core, is an uplifting story about compassion amidst a desolate situation. Based on true events, it tells the story of a small town called Gander, Newfoundland when the United States closed its airspace during 9/11. 6,600 people from 38 different planes found themselves whisked away to the town that was to be their refuge for days.
Meanwhile, the locals, befuddled as they were, went the extra mile to welcome them โ providing their basic essentials (food, accommodation, phone calls,etc.) as well as giving them the quintessential Newfoundland experience (booze, a stadium-sized barbeque party, the Screech In and just their pure hospitality). Amidst the growing anxiety and panic about what the world has come to, they all gradually find solace in one another, establishing genuine human connections.
Why should you watch the musical?
Philippine Concerts attended the Gala Night at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater on June 6, and we can tell you that Come From Away had become a global success for lots of good reasons.
In its 100-minute runtime โ without any intermission โ the musical was able to make the audience laugh, cry, and laugh then cry again. The story was simply heartwarming, and it was packed with enough humor, drama and tension to reel you in.
This was made possible by the dynamic group of characters brought to life by the talented all-Filipino ensemble that painted a comprehensive picture of thousands of confused and agitated passengers. Due to the nature of the story, each actor had to play a multitude of roles, and they enabled each one at the snap of a finger.
Directed by Michael Williams, Filipino talents took the helm of the production. Carla Guevara Laforteza stood out in her role as Hannah OโRourke, a mother who was extremely worried for her firefighter son in New York. Herheartrending performance of โI Am Hereโ was easily one that captured the hearts of the audience. Dubbed as the First Lady of Philippine Theater, Menchu Lauchengco-Yuloโs solo for โMe and the Skyโ greatly exemplified the pride and passion of her character Beverley Bass, the first female captain of American Airlines.
There was also Sheila Francisco as the motherly Beulah Davis, a teacher in Gander who was always on her toes, attentive to each guestโs needs. Stephen Cadd, who played Claude Elliot, the mayor of Gander, was a steadfast source of laughs. George Schulz and Topper Fabregas were a joy to witness as the gay couple Kevin T. and Kevin J. Caisa Borromeo gently portrayed the eagerness of Bonnie Harris, the animal welfare specialist who gave the much needed care for the animals on-board the planes. Cathy Azanza-Dy and Rycharde Everley were Diane and Nick, two souls that found romance in the most unexpected place. Watch out for their rapid-fire retorts, the way they seamlessly made a 360-degree shift instantly, a fascinating feat to witness upfront.
Come From Away is a refreshing take on musicals, as it placed the primary focus on the narrative and the music. From the get-go, โWelcome to the Rockโ was a roaring invitation to Gander, propelled by the succession of fast-paced tracks like โ38 Planesโ and โBlanket and Beddingsโ. When the mood turned sombre, songs like โLead Us Out of the Nightโ, โPrayerโ and โSomething Missingโ were notable emotional clinchers.
The stage was on the minimalist side, but the subtle changes made it easy to discern what was happening โ the slight movements of the chair, the appearance of the arch, the turning of the signs on top. As the time went on, youโll find yourself hanging on every word from the cast, feeling how their anxiety shifted to openness and eventually, grace. The script was full of wit and humor, not a dull moment for the crowd.
Most importantly, Come From Away had its heart on the right place, with its inspiring message of human compassion โ the mere act of extending help unconditionally in the face of tragedy, something that we can easily empathize with as Filipinos. It embodied what a community can do to lighten each otherโs burdens, to find light in the darkest circumstances โ commodities that the world needs more of at this time.
