On October 8, Kawaii metal pioneers BABYMETAL took over the Araneta Coliseum for the Manila leg of their extensive 2025 to 2026 WORLD TOUR. The band, composed of Suzuka Nakamoto / Su-Metal, Momoko Okazaki / Momometal and Moa Kikuchi / Moametal, brought the raging intensity of metal with just about the right dose of saccharine J-pop. Presented by PULP Live World, the concert thrilled thousands and thousands of fans that had long waited to see the band live.
Hours before the concert, the perimeter of the Big Dome felt like a dark fashion runway. Black was the overarching theme, and the outfits came in all shapes and forms: BABYMETAL shirts, gothic lolita costumes (corsets, fluffy balloon skirts, platform shoes, etc.), matched with kitsune masks, long coats and vibrant wigs. The concert is well overdue for longtime Filipino fans, and they made the effort to dress in style for their idols.
Since their formation in 2010, BABYMETAL has steadily made long-lasting waves in the world of music. When the song โGimme Chocolate!!โ went viral in 2014, it proved that their innovative fusion of metal and idol music became a magic formula could unlock a multiverse of wonders. They found a way to assimilate the sweet and upbeat pop flavor with the backdrop of face-melting distorted power chords and bludgeoning double to triple bass drum beats. BABYMETAL pulled off impeccable dance routines, pulled finger hearts and sang cheerfully amidst the chaos of metal music.
Since then, the band had gained acclaim from music juggernauts like Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga and Bring Me the Horizon. They had also been billed for some of the biggest music festivals in the world including Glastonbury, Rock Am Ring, Sonicsphere Festival, Download Festival and more.
Opening the show was METALVERSE which is essentially BABYMETALโs sister group. Composed of Miko Todaka, Kokona Kato, and Sakia Kimura, the girls gave the crowd an electrifying performance.
The Big Dome fully roared to life when it was time for the main act to take the stage. BABYMETAL made their entrance, donning their trademark spiky, holographic dresses, to the pandemonium of โBABYMETAL DEATHโ. Instantly, the crowd went wild, raising their fists plus kitsune hand gestures, and headbanging on beat, like a singular organism. This was followed by the 2012 classic โHeadbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!โ and the festive โPA PA YA!!โ.
Some familiar faces also made some special onscreen cameos, including Tom Morello (from Rage Against the Machine) during โMETALI!!โ, Electric Callboy during โRATATATAโ and Poppy during โfrom me to uโ.
The best thing about BABYMETALโs concert is the sheer energy of it all. Well, essentially, metal and idol music are probably two of the most high-powered music genres to begin with. You mix them together, and the energy is just astronomically palpable. If you were anywhere in the crowd that night, your pulse would have raced and you would seamlessly follow through with the flow of the music.
Su-Metalโs vocals were unwavering as she effortlessly went from one pitch to another. Moametal and Momometal provided the back-up screams and vocals. Together, the trioโs dance routines were spectacular. The concert was also propelled by the highly seasoned Kami Band, the groupโs in-house touring band. Their metal prowess, so to speak, provided the needed intensity to keep the flames burning.
Surprising the crowd with a banger performance, Cup of Joe welcomed Pinoy hip-hop artist Gloc-9 on stage to perform โBagsakanโ on the first day of their sold-out Stardust concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Gloc-9, a pioneering Filipino rapper and singer-songwriter, is widely recognized for shaping and popularizing the Pinoy hip-hop genre.
Stardust is Cup of Joeโs third major solo concert and their second in 2025, following SILAKBO.
Bringing out an intergalactic experience, the concept of the show takes the Joewahs on a journey through the bandโs seven yearsโ worth of music.
On Day 1, the concert was fronted by promising singer-songwriter dana paulene, who is best known for her tracks โuod love story,โ โakong-akoโ and her recent collaboration single with Earl Agustin, โMinamahal,โ written by Earl himself and Amiel Sol.
As one of the highlights of the night, The Araneta Group included Cup of Joeโs picture on its Wall of Fame, which features iconic events and performers associated with the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Throughout this three-day concert, official Cup of Joe merchandise, including pre-orders of the SILAKBO vinyl album, is available at the entrance of The Big Dome. Those who wish to pre-order the vinyl album may sign up here: https://bit.ly/SILAKBOvinyl.

Every story has two sides, and Guillermo del Toro’s latest take on “Frankenstein” will reveal how these perspectives connect in a haunting exploration of creation, ambition, and tragedy. Featuring a stellar cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz, along with the vision of an Oscar-winning director, this adaptation brings Mary Shelley’s iconic novel to life.

Featuring an exceptional cast that showcases Isaac’s fervent portrayal, Elordi’s enigmatic aura, Goth’s intense emotional resonance, and Waltz’s commanding presence, Frankenstein is set to explore the profound moral and emotional intricacies of Shelley’s story. Del Toro’s unique combination of beauty and horror will enhance the story’s themes of pride, humanity, and the consequences of playing god.
Frankenstein will be exclusively available on Netflix starting November 7. This will be a fresh but genuine take on a story that serves as a reminder that every creation carries its own shadow.

Four decades since the original Bagets film became a hit, the legacy of Adie lives on as another Muhlach takes the spotlight in Bagets The Musical.
Andres Muhlach as Adie in Bagets The Musical
Andres Muhlach, fresh from his film debut in Minamahal: 100 Bulaklak Para Kay Luna, will step into the role once played by his father, Aga Muhlach, in the 2026 stage adaptation of the beloved 1984 classic.
He completes the new-generation Bagets barkada, alternating performances with fellow VIVA artist Mico Hendrix Chua.
With this final cast reveal, audiences are all set to relive the magic, friendship, and first-love thrills of their teenage years.
From Aga to Andres It is a full-circle moment for the young star to breathe new life into Adie, the charming boy-next-door.
โI understand how big Bagets was, and still is, in the Philippines. Itโs such a huge part of many Filipino childhood,โ he says. โTo be part of it, let alone play my dadโs role, feels surreal.โ
The original Adie, Aga Muhlach, could not be prouder.
โWhen we first found out that I got his breakthrough portrayal, he was super happy for me,โ he shares. โHe was also excited to see how Iโm going to approach the character.โ
Making the role his own Bagets The Musical marks Andresโ first major theater project. Nerves were real, he admits, but with thorough practice and workshops, he felt ready.
โItโs really about honing your talents,โ he says. โOnce you start learning more about yourself and your abilities, it just makes you more motivatedโto perform, improve, and keep getting better.โ
While some might call it following in his fatherโs footsteps, he sees it differently.
โIโd want this to be my own path,โ he explains.
โAt the end of the day, the hard work is on us, the new Bagets cast. What we put out isnโt because of what the original actors did, but because we want to create something worthy for todayโs fans.โ
His dedication was evident in his thorough preparation for the role. Muhlach trained extensively, entered auditions well-prepared, and sang before the panel, even though he had never done anything like it on the spot.
โEver since I was little, I dreamed of seeing myself on the silver screen and on stage,โ shares Muhlach. โNow itโs happening. I just feel blessed.โ
The rising star has already built a resume that includes TV series like Ang Mutya ng Section E and Da Pers Family.
The heart of โBagets The Musicalโ Though he has played high school roles before, Bagets The Musical gives him a chance to show a different side.
โPlaying Adie now is a completely new experience,โ he says. โHeโs still the charismatic, charming boy-next-door type, but his story feels more mature because of his love interest.โ
Audiences can once again enjoy the thrills and mischief of student days with the barkada.
โAtasha and I studied abroad, but I enjoyed my time here more because I was with my best friends,โ he recalls. โNothing beats being close to the people who made student life bearable. Thatโs really at the heart of Bagets The Musical.โ
Bagets The Musical is scheduled to run from January 23 to March 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Joining Muhlach in the lead cast are Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez as Gilbert, Milo Cruz and Migo Valid as Tonton, Ethan David and KD Estrada as Arnel, and Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf as Topee, and Mico Hendrix Chua as Adie.

Mico Hendrix Chua joins Bagets The Musical with charm, kilig, and a nod to the iconic Aga Muhlach role
Mico Hendrix Chua as Adie in Bagets The Musical shot on location at Hilton Manila Newport World Resorts
The wait comes to a thrilling close as Bagets The Musical reveals the cast for the final lead role. Mico Hendrix Chua is set to play the new-generation Adie, the baby-faced charmer first made iconic by Aga Muhlach in the beloved 1984 coming-of-age classic. Get ready to swoon over his dimples and boy-next-door vibe as he brings a fresh twist to the 2026 stage adaptation.
Chua makes an acting comeback as Adie The rising artist has been on stage since his teens, performing in local theaters in Iloilo before making the move to Manila. In 2021, he joined the reality show Born to Be a Star, which earned him a contract with VIVA. โAfter I signed, I had to move to Dubai, where I worked multiple jobs while studying,โ he recalls. โI started as an admissions counselor, then became an administrator.โ Despite the hiatus, the 22-year-old never let go of his love for the craft. โI had a pretty stable life abroad, but deep down, my heart was always with performing,โ says Chua. โI can always go back to that life, but Iโm not getting any younger. I want to give my all to what I truly love.โ Now back in the Philippines, the stars have aligned for him. โThis is my first project since I returned. During the auditions, I was anxious, especially with so many callbacks,โ he continues. โAt first, I didnโt expect anything. But the more I went through the process, the more I wanted the character.โ
In the shoes of a classic Interestingly, Chuaโs initial choice was not Adie. He had hoped to play Topee, a role he felt connected to because of their shared accent. The switch, however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. โWeโre a lot more alike than I thought,โ he reflects. โI think many can relate when I say weโve all had that time in our lives when we were young, naive, and just letting our emotions get the best of us.โ The artist acknowledges moments of peer pressure and recklessness in his pastโqualities that make embodying Adie feel like reconnecting with an old version of himself. Fans may remember the persona as a slightly confused romantic who juggles love, crushes, and meaningful connections. โIโve had those encounters beforeโstealing glances at your crush and all. But itโs all in the past now,โ he says. โI think Iโve matured since then.โ The beauty of Bagets The Musical is that we can relive those moments and savor all the joy and buoyancy of youth.
Rising to the challenge Though he relates to the character, Chua admits the weight of portraying such an icon was real. โThe pressure went higher, but itโs also a great challenge,โ he concludes. โIt means I get to give my best and portray someone as legendary as Aga Muhlach. Iโm excited and deeply honored.โ The rising star rounds out the new-generation lineup of Bagets The Musical. He will alternate performances with another VIVA artist, to be announced soon.
Bagets The Musical is scheduled to run from January 23 to March 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Joining Chua in the lead cast are Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez as Gilbert, Milo Cruz and Migo Valid as Tonton, Ethan David and KD Estrada as Arnel, and Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf as Topee.
