  • Ben&Ben explores themes of longing and loneliness in new single “Autumn”

Ben&Ben explores themes of longing and loneliness in new single “Autumn”

The emotional ballad serves as the first offering off the three-part release of Ben&Ben.

Ben&Ben expresses the loneliness that comes in waves after being apart from your loved one for so long.

On their new single, “Autumn,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment, the nine-piece collective copes with the emotional complications that hit home, resulting in a song about “the distance that people often unintentionally create with their other half, because of the changes that life throws at us.”

    Ben&Ben

According to the Paninidigan Kita hitmakers, the introspective track was written in Canada last year, right smack in the middle of their North American tour. The band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, Paolo Benjamin, felt an aching yearning to be with his significant other, as the long-distance proved to be very challenging for both of them.

“A few months later, in early 2023, brother Miguel Benjamin completed the lyrics, also adding a bridge about being in different seasons, which really completed the message of the song,” the folk-pop collective adds. “It speaks about themes of loneliness, yearning, and ultimately, hoping against hope that a new season will come.”

Marking a new chapter for the band, “Autumn” embraces a new direction that reveals subtle details with each listen. Blending rich, acoustic arrangements with lush textures and otherworldly touches, the emotional ballad is meticulously crafted to capture the yearning of being in a long-distance relationship with your other half.

The award-winning band explains in a collective statement, “Autumn is a song where we showcase how we’ve evolved and matured as a band. Writing-wise, we felt the perspective was a more realistic and mature take on the subject. Arrangement and production-wise, we discovered a lot of new ways to express sounds that achieve the emotion we were going for.”

The song is included in a three-part release that Ben&Ben hopes to share in the coming weeks. Aside from “Autumn,” the acclaimed Filipino act will also be dropping the full-band version of their new track “Courage” in the following week and a special collaboration with another artist, due December 8, 2023.

Ben&Ben’s “Autumn” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

  • Coloura drops sophomore EP, Love and Influence

Coloura drops sophomore EP, Love and Influence

The Cebu-based indie quartet delivers a sonically arresting mix of synth-pop anthems, electronic rock jams, ambient soundscapes, and heartfelt tunes.

Cebu-based indie quartet Coloura has finally released their highly anticipated sophomore EP, Love and Influence under Melt Records.

The 5-track release shapes up to be an absolute musical revelation—thanks to its shimmering hooks, undeniably catchy choruses, and infectious arrangements that take you back to the colorful era of ‘80s pop and 2000s electro-pop/rock.

The band explains in a collective statement, “Our music has been heavily inspired by pop, rock, and electronic music, but for this EP, we kind of just went along with whatever was comfortable and fun for us. We are really excited to hear people’s thoughts when they hear this EP.”

The EP, which showcases Coloura’s versatility and boundless creativity, is a testament to the band’s commitment to their craft. Each track tells a unique story and offers a distinct musical experience. With Jake Russell Relacion leading the charge, the band members have poured their hearts and souls into this project.

According to the band, the EP covers themes encompassing the romantic spectrum or dissolution of its stages, however, listeners would want to call it: mutual love, obsession, self-love, and acceptance. Jake penned most of the tracks in the mini-album, except for the hook/chorus of the lead single “Ecstasy,” which Rob (bassist) wrote.

To usher in the new album, they recently released their latest single, “Ecstasy,” which explores the intense and almost trance-like emotions that one experiences when infatuated with someone. Jake Relacion, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, shares his inspiration behind the song: “I was trying to reminisce about the feeling of being overly in love with someone.”

With its infectious melodies and catchy rhythms, “Ecstasy” promises to have you grooving along from the very first note.

    Coloura

Coloura’s music can be described as a delightful mix of pop, rock, and electronic music, with various nuances influenced by each band member’s unique musical background. They released their first song “Losing My Mind” in 2019, echoing nuances from The 1975’s post-punk attitude and the sonically driven sounds of new wave and post-grunge. The release garnered attention in Cebu and beyond, leading to some highlighted music events along with the best bands today, such as Mandaue Nights, Thinking Chair, and many more.

In 2022, the genre-bending act released their debut EP, In Between, featuring the songs “Drive and Meet You,” First Time,” “Let This Go,” and more.

Coloura’s 5-track EP, Love and Influence is out now on all digital/streaming platforms worldwide via Melt Records.

  • SOS comes to terms with love and loss on the emotional anthem “Please Lang”

SOS comes to terms with love and loss on the emotional anthem “Please Lang”

The new track serves as the third offering from their upcoming EP, ‘It Was A Moment,’ due early next year.

Filipino indie rock quintet SOS delves into the impact of lost connections and romantic fallouts on “Please Lang,” their new single under Careless Music.

An emotional anthem that reflects on the weight of unresolved fights and the silent, often unacknowledged trauma it inflicts, “Please Lang” serves as the third offering off their upcoming five-track EP, It Was A Moment—to be released sometime in early 2024.

According to vocalist Roberto Seña, the guitar-driven song delivers confessional songwriting that is evident in most of their music.

“It’s a sad song that focuses on what happened rather than what could have been. It’s also just good fun, really—being able to laugh or have a sense of humor while experiencing inevitable heartbreak. Eventually, the song takes a darker turn as the song settles; things come to an end, and we just have to accept it.”

Over the course of two days, Seña wrote most of the lyrics during one of their jam sessions at Bavarian Records Studio in La Union, while guitarist Andrew Panopio helped with the second half of the song. The song was produced and arranged by the members of the band, resulting in a punchy but subdued release with ‘80s pop and ’90s alt-rock influences worn proudly on its sleeves.

Drummer King Puentespina shares, “I think we were slated to finish arranging another song that day, and during our lunch break, I opened a new project file wanting to jam something out. I remember laying in the chords, progression, and drums and it started morphing. I asked Andrew to go for the groove; Ram was on the keys, and everyone in the room could feel it. It just slowly brought itself together. Seña and Anjo came into the studio after one of their lunch breaks or meetings or something, and they all got excited. I remember stepping out for a meeting and dinner. I came back, and they had all the words down. It was insanely fun.”

“Please Lang” is the second single that features new member Ram Alonzo performing keyboard duties while also being prominently involved in the studio, aiding in the mixing and mastering of the material. He recalls being swept away by the fragility of the track, and how its tale of love and loss deeply resonated with him on a personal level.

“Working on this song felt particularly personal for me,” Ram admits. “While we were writing it, I was going through a similar experience to what the song is all about, which made listening to it kind of difficult. Masakit siya (It’s painful).”

  • Denise Julia releases debut album, Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1)

Denise Julia releases debut album, Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1)

The R&B newcomer celebrates love “in all its beautiful complexities”.

Multi-talented recording star Denise Julia continues to shape the trajectory of Filipino R&B with her debut mini-album, Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1), out this Friday, November 17, 2023, via Sony Music Entertainment.

    Denise Julia

Nestled between effortless cool and feminine grace, the hitmaker’s 7-track record essays the highs and lows of romantic commitment in the era of perpetual screentime and brief attention spans.
With a sweet voice that flutters gently above sonic flourishes, Denise Julia speaks her mind with wisdom beyond her years, delivering the material as if it were part of her joy, pain, and experience.

“This album isn’t just a bunch of songs; it’s like a journey through all the different parts of love—from the exciting beginnings to the tough endings, and finally, to those sweet, lingering moments,” the NVMD artist reveals in a statement. “Sweet Nothings is like looking back at my own experiences and the stories of others that touched me. It’s like a musical trip exploring the different sides of love.”

Combining R&B sensibilities with a modern touch of jazzy soundscapes, hip-hop beats, and suave instrumentation, Denise Julia takes reign of her narrative as she deals with different facets of love: the rough parts, the reassuringly sweet edges, and the meaty center, all of which make the experience worth rummaging for. As the young music icon explains it, “Each song talks about a different part of this feeling we all know.”

Denise Julia’s new album features production from her constant and trusted collaborators, including Joel Tracks, a prolific producer based in Nigeria; J.Greg and Duaneinsane, who played pivotal roles in bringing her vision to life; and Neo Cruz, who is responsible for making “Butterflies” a sultry number with signature smooth melodies.

Norwegian-Filipina artist and multi-instrumentalist HILLARI and acclaimed alt-R&B experimentalist Jason Dhakal also join Denise Julia on “Roster” and “Bum 2 Me,” respectively, adding an interesting dimension to the album’s delicately sparse but genuinely sophisticated sound.

There’s also the inescapable crossover hit “B.A.D.,” featuring acclaimed rapper P-Lo, whose style and flow complement Julia’s incredible vocal chops. To date, the catchy R&B jam has racked up more than 2 million streams on Spotify since its release, peaking at No. 66 and still going strong.

“Working alongside these musical geniuses was a transformative experience, offering me invaluable insights and learnings,” the R&B sensation shares. ‘Their expertise and creativity elevated the project to new heights, and I am truly grateful for the collaborative synergy that shaped the outcome.”

The album’s focus track, “Lackin’,” serves as another highlight: an airy lullaby that was inspired by one of her dreams. Denise Julia told her producers about how the dream felt like a “ghost in her mind” and that she had to immediately write the track over that ringing, familiar melody.

She adds, “I remember the pressure and excitement during the studio session, especially in the intro. This track stands out as one of my best-written pieces, capturing the raw emotion of a relationship where one person was lacking, yet I expressed the belief that the tables would turn and they’d crave my presence in return.”

Check out the Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1) tracklist:

    1. B.A.D. (Feat. P-Lo)
    2. Lackin’
    3. Sugar n’ Spice
    4. bum 2 me (Feat. Jason Dhakal)
    5. Roster (Feat. Hillari)

Denise Julia’s debut mini-album, Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1) is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

  • Tate Mcrae Releases New Song and Video for “Exes”

Tate Mcrae Releases New Song and Video for “Exes”

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Tate McRae releases her new song “exes” alongside the official music video via RCA Records.

Written and produced with hitmakers Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé) and Tyler Spry (OneRepublic, Anitta), “exes” is propelled by Tate’s vibrant vocal style laced effortlessly with bursts of synths throughout.

Directed by Aerin Moreno (Dove Cameron, Madison Beer) and choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Cardi B, Lil Nas X), the steamy music video follows Tate and her dancers taking over a rundown rodeo for the night. Through intoxicating visuals and high-energy choreography, you won’t be able to look away from the immensely talented Tate as she catapults into pop stardom.

Tate adds, “We wrote “exes” on the last day of the album-making process. It was like the last hurrah that Ryan Tedder and I wrote in legitimately 30 minutes. It talks about my flaws in a relationship and some of my self-deprecating and self-sabotaging tendencies. The music video was so insane to film — getting to dance that much with such incredible girls was a dream.”

Showing no signs of slowing down, the star is making her musical guest debut on Saturday Night Live tomorrow night with host Jason Momoa. Featured on the cover of Billboard’s November Music Awards Issue, Tate will be performing at the show this Sunday where she’s also nominated for her collaboration with Tiësto on “10:35” in Top Dance/Electronic Song.

Releasing December 8th, Tate’s highly anticipated sophomore album, THINK LATER, is executive produced by Ryan Tedder. Pre-order HERE. THINK LATER and its songs are steeped in pop appeal and infectious toplines. Showcasing Tate’s boundless vocal talent and evolution as a songwriter, this new body of work explores the all-too-relatable feelings of falling in love and embracing the raw emotions you experience due to leading with your intuition and heart.

The first taste of music from the forthcoming album, “greedy”, earned the star her first #1 on the Spotify Global chart and top 10 on the Billboard Global 200 chart hitting #3. The self-assured hypnotic offering has garnered over 394 million streams to date and hit #11 on the Hot 100 along with #1 most added at Top 40 and Hot AC radio upon release. Making it her biggest debut to date, “greedy” has been called “an artistic turning point… a propulsive self-empowerment anthem built around a firecracker of a pop hook that finds McRae dipping in and out of a falsetto while exuding unshakeable confidence” by Billboard. Watch her perform the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Next year, she’ll embark on her first global outing with the ‘THINK LATER TOUR” spanning 53 dates throughout Europe, the UK, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. • DISNEY PRINCESS – THE CONCERT BY BROADWAY STARS

DISNEY PRINCESS – THE CONCERT BY BROADWAY STARS

Get to Know the International Broadway Stars Performing Your Favorite Disney Princess Songs in Disney Princess – The Concert! This week, the cast of Disney Princess (The Concert)—Krysta Rodriguez, Aisha Jackson, Anneliese Van Der Pol, and Music Director Benjamin Rauhala—met with the press and the online community to address questions about their upcoming performance.

Q: How different is this Broadway project compared to your previous Broadway project and your roles before?

Anneliese: For me, I’m used to television, so the hours are different. It’s like 9–5 on television, and with theater, you’re usually working at night. It’s totally different if you’re on a tour; usually on Broadway, it’s the same stage every night. On tour, we’re adjusting to people and the language because we speak a little bit of whatever country or city we’re in.

Aisha: It’s actually different because in a Broadway house, you can’t always see the audience, but in some of these houses, you get to actually see everyone in their costumes, and we can see their faces light up as we sing your favorite song, so it’s always fun to be able to have an intimate personal experience with our audience memories.

Krysta: And most of the time we’re on Broadway before me to show we’re playing a character all the way through, but as we get the unique opportunity to be ourselves, we get to bring who we are. We need to share stories with you about our time on Broadway and our connection to all these characters, and then we get to just have a moderate with the other princesses on the stage, which is unique and fun!

Benjamin: And also, unlike the other shows with one princess to star and now getting to have four, that’s a whole new thing having these incredible women interacting with each other and finding that each other and singing together live for everybody.

Q: If you were to relate to any of the Disney princesses in terms of realness, which Disney Princess would you relate to, and what real trait would you relate to them?

Aisha: I would say “Anna.” She’s goofy, and she loves her sister, and I have a little sister that I love and adore.

Anneliese: honestly, I guess for me it’s “Rapunzel.” She’s a lot like a character I played on television; she’s sort of glass half full and whimsical and airheady, and she really finds joy in life even being trapped in that tower, in that small room, and becomes an artist and educated.

Krysta: I think I’m going to say Snow White because she has a lot of friends that helped her out, and she has a specific group that she found that helped her get through some tough times since she leans on them. You know a great group, and who doesn’t like having seven men living with you?

Benjamin: I will go with “Flounder” because his best friend was the best singer under the sea and the best singer in the city, and that was really, really fun, and that’s what I do too.

Q: If you will describe your life right now, what would be the perfect Disney song for you right now?

Aisha: For me, “for the first time,” we are in the Philippines. We were so excited to be here, and it’s been a dream of mine to travel the world while doing what I love. So for the first time here in the Philippines, doing what I love.

Benjamin: You know it’s a song from Ms. Lea Salonga; we’re in a whole new world right now since it’s our first time here. We’ve been traveling, and every new city is like “unbelievable sights, indescribable feelings.”

Anneliese: “7 a.m., the usual morning lineup.” Start with the questions and get the interviews done! I would say, “Love is an open door,” loving our friends and our group and the dozen doors that have been opening that we couldn’t imagine.

Krysta: I would say “Colors of the Wind.” We’ve traveled so much, meeting so many people of different cultures, races, and religions, and just going through the flow and going through the wind where the plane would take us.

Q: What would you consider the most challenging part of your career, and how did you overcome it?

Aisha: Benjie gifted me a new song this time, “The Little Mermaid.” It’s a little challenging, harder than it seems, and it has a lot of words, so that’s my challenge to nail that and bring it to the fans to adore in a loving way.

Anneliese: I think the most challenging is just being away from our family and our loved ones, of course, and then musically on stage; it’s like I have to sing part of the world, and I will sing that song after Halle Bailey sings it. Everyone hears this music so much, and so to make it a new, interesting, or different refresh is a challenge, so yeah, that’s my challenge.

Krysta: I’m saying you know we will have fun in the future. And maybe you get one or maybe two great songs or something like nine amazing songs. Did you do them all justice, and sometimes you wanted to do a great job to learn them all and have a unique path for each character that you’re doing so? You know I knew some classics, but some of the newer songs I am not familiar with, and then taking a new song really well and learning the perfect harmony is another difficult thing to do, but we have ample time with rehearsals and come up prepared and do our best.

Benjamin: I would say that every day in theater is a challenge, making sure the show is excellent and that we are set up every day. We have an incredible crew traveling with us as well as contributing to the local growth of each town, making sure that we are committed to making magic for everybody.

Q: What can your Filipino fans expect from the concert? Is there a special song or performance that they can expect?

Benjamin: What do our Filipino fans expect? Well, they can expect that we’re going to sing the songs of all 13 Disney princesses and the two frozen queens. There’s going to be five incredible Broadway stars up there, including four Powerhouse princesses and our guest friends, and we’re going to be up there and sing all the songs you love.

Anneliese: Please expect to have a nostalgic feeling and that you have a good time and enjoy yourself. You’ll have a fun show at a time when maybe we really need it in a serious time around the world.

Krysta: We’ll sort of present so many songs in a new way. We’ll have a screen behind us where we’ll be playing the animations, so you’ll have a good familiar and new mix together. And I think the surprise or special thing that we might have is that you’re going to be thrilled with all the songs; they’re all your favorites. We throw in a few that are outside the princess box from different films, and then there’s a little magic that occurs at the end of the show, and if you sing loud enough along with us, the magic might hum. We have a very magical music director with us, and the power of our voices together will make the magic happen.

Q: My question is: What do you think is the importance of Disney Princesses in our world today that you hope people will learn through the concert?

Aisha: I think Disney Princesses really teach us to believe in ourselves and our dreams; they remind us that all dreams are possible, and they teach us about having courage, being ourselves, and not being afraid of something that might seem hard, so I hope that people are encouraged to keep going after what they want.

Anneliese: If I can remember what the question is, it’s that we’re talking about princesses, not princess, and it’s a female-forward show; it’s about feminism in a large way and the power of being a hero through courage, kindness, empathy, and love. It’s not using your sword when one uses your sword, and you know different ways.

Krysta: I think that a lot of the Princesses there  challenges they don’t come from external sources they actually come from the people in their lives who limit them or are they worried about what they think other people are going to think are the world is going to think or and I think so much of what they learn almost all of them learn through not worrying so much about what everybody will think of you and what the world’s gonna say are what people limit the limitations that people place on you and I think that’s a lesson of a lot of women and young girls and young boys that everybody needs to learn and like what that is just being talked about formally it’s normalized in all these movies and so I think that lesson II continue to learn and I hope people will learn the way forward from this.

Q: Given that the princesses and two queens have struggles, they also have victories. If you have one princess you want to duet with, what particular song from your repertoire would you sing along with them?

Aisha: I want to sing “Let it Go” with Elsa.

Anneliese: I want to sing “Show yourself” with Evan Rachel Wood and “Badder with Amy Adams and Maya Rudolph. Fabulous villains duet.

Krysta: I’d like to say, “I see the light.”

Benjamin: Being on the piano is my whole job. I play duets with princesses, and I’m pretty lucky, but I do hope that Ms. Lea Salonga will sing with us one day, and that would be a real dream.

Q: So I’d like to ask about the dresses that you’re going to wear and the jewelry that they’re going to wear.

Aisha: You can expect to see a lot of sparkle.

Anneliese: supposed to be confident, and trust me, they’re beautiful. They’re so smartly related that I’m telling you it’s sparkle and jewelry. I don’t actually have it, and it’s not like real, because I can’t support that I’m sounding like Cinderella.

Q: Is there ever a song from the Disney repertoire that, the first time you heard it, moved you so much? Do you always follow yourself in tears? You said I needed a break. I need to take a moment and feel it in.

Aisha: For me, it’s the color of the wind.”

Krysta: For me, it’s “Can you feel my love tonight?”

Q: Do you have pre-show rituals that you would like to share with us?

Aisha: Yeah, we like to warm up the voices in our bodies to make sure that we’re ready to go for our audience. I’d like to give a little dance in the mirror. She says, Shake off my nerves and remind myself to have a good time.

Anneliese: our rituals to be together and gossip

Krysta: Yeah, we like to try the little snacks that we get, so that’s my ritual: eating.

Benjamin: I stand up on stage about 5 minutes before the show, and I think about where I am that day. I really think about the people that are there, and I’m trying to make sure that I’m ready to make special for them.

  • Clara Benin finds home in people with the holiday-themed track “can’t wait to see you on christmas day”

Clara Benin finds home in people with the holiday-themed track “can’t wait to see you on christmas day”

Multi-awarded Filipino singer-songwriter Clara Benin celebrates the Christmas season with the release of a blissful tune.

Clara Benin warms up the holiday season with the release of her new single, “can’t wait to see you on christmas day.

The sweet little tune expresses the joy of returning to someone on Christmas and finding a home, not necessarily in a place or entity, but in the company of people that matter.

“I wrote it thinking of my family and the heart-warming feeling of our Christmas reunions, where all our worries melt away, replaced by thankfulness and joy,” the Filipino singer-songwriter explains.

Written and produced in the comfort of her own home, Clara Benin wanted a song that evokes the endearing warmth of the holidays, where spending one’s precious time with folks she considers family makes living truly worthwhile and memorable.

Despite the logistical challenges she encountered during the song’s recording in early October, the prolific folk-pop artist pulled through the odds with a compelling track whose sense of comfort radiates in every note and chord.

“It took me multiple attempts to get the right take because my home studio isn’t soundproof, and the rain could be heard in the background during the recording,” Clara reveals. “I managed to record the song one early morning and finished at around 4 a.m.”

According to Clara, the song holds a special place in her heart as it started out as a collaborative effort with her fans in her Patreon community. She even solicited their help for words and phrases that bring to mind the essence of Christmas and somehow used it as part of her writing exercise.

“Shoutout to my Patreon member Stephen Duma, whose line ‘all the longing finds hope in the faces we call home’ deeply resonated with me, and I knew it had to be a part of the song,” Clara shares in a statement.

Clara Benin’s “can’t wait to see you on christmas day” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via OFFMUTE and Sony Music Entertainment.
