SB19 expands global reach with BE:FIRST collaboration “TOYFRIEND”

The powerhouse team-up made a significant breakthrough in Japan, landing a No. 2 peak on the Oricon Digital Chart and iTunes All Genre Chart.

Global P-Pop powerhouse SB19 continues its global ascent with “TOYFRIEND,” a cross-border collaboration with top-selling Japanese group, BE:FIRST. The clubby R&B track serves as the latest single from their sophomore studio album, Wakas At Simula—released under Sony Music Entertainment.

Prior to the promotional push, “TOYFRIEND” has already made a significant dent across Japan’s leading digital platforms, debuting at No. 1 on MORA’s All Genre, International, and Hi-Res International charts, while peaking at No. 2 on the iTunes All Genre chart and No. 1 on its Pop chart, and No. 2 on Line Music Japan’s World Music Top 100 chart. The upbeat bop has reached the summit of the RecoChoku’s Hi-Res Single and Single charts, and reached No. 2 on the Oricon Digital Chart—a proof of the Filipino boy group’s strong surge of support from Japanese fans. Other chart placements in Japan include a No. 3 peak at Spotify Daily Viral chart, No. 6 debut on Billboard JapanTop Download Songs chart and No. 4 placement on Genius Japan Overall Song Chart.

Inviting listeners to the floor with its inescapable rhythm and polished production, “TOYFRIEND” pulls the best of both worlds from both Asian pop powerhouses. But above all that brimming energy is a narrative that explores the messiness of a situationship. It’s perfect for the summer: an infectious dance anthem that goes well with angst and frustration.

SB19’s JOSH explains, “[TOYFRIEND] captures the uncertainty of having feelings for someone while feeling completely confused if those feelings will be reciprocated in the first place. In this puzzling situation, one person can end up being treated as a toyfriend: caught between friendship and something more. The track reflects the ambiguity that comes with blurred intentions.”

For PABLO, “Toyfriend” became an instant favorite within the first few seconds of hearing it, with SB19 expressing confidence that it was the right song to pursue for the collaboration. “The sound carried a distinct energy that stood out from the start, making it an instant fit for the concept we were aiming for. Artistically, the track leans into a more edgy, slightly spicy, and sexy tone.”

The track was initially conceived as a completely new song for both SB19 and BE:FIRST, which became a key factor in shaping the overall concept of the collaboration. According to PABLO, approaching the project from a blank slate allowed both groups to align on a shared direction and explore a sound that reflects their combined artistry.

“This collaborative process enabled both groups to contribute meaningfully while ensuring the final output feels cohesive and authentic,” PABLO shares in a press statement. “Ultimately, the intent was to deliver a fresh and distinctive record that highlights the strengths and synergy of both SB19 and BE:FIRST.”

SB19’s JUSTIN adds, “When the opportunity to collaborate with BE:FIRST came up, we identified it as a track that best suited both BE:FIRST and SB19 in terms of style and direction. SB19 recorded the song at our studio, 1Z, while BE:FIRST recorded their parts in Japan. We ensured that members of our team were present during BE:FIRST’s recording sessions to provide guidance and maintain cohesion in terms of vocal direction and overall sound.”

SB19’s KEN pointed out that the collaboration began when he represented the country as Felip for prominent music showcase in Japan last year at the K-Arena Yokohama in Kanagawa, Japan. “The collaboration began when I previously performed for DUNK. It was the fans who truly made it happen by engaging with one another, which the BMSG team recognized as a valuable opportunity to collaborate with 1Z Entertainment. This led to the collaboration between BE:FIRST and SB19.”

Despite geographical challenges, the collaborative process moved with striking ease—thanks to their commitment to achieving a strong and unified output. SB19’s STELL pointed out how every contribution and creative element clicked into place. “Rather than seeing the distance as a limitation, it became an opportunity to embrace a global collaboration setup. Overall, the experience was very smooth and collaborative.” With the release of “TOYFRIEND,” SB19 and BE:FIRST delivers another genre-forward release that champions the growing influence of Asian pop on the global stage.

SB19’s “TOYFRIEND” (with BE:FIRST) is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

SB19 will be headlining the Wakas at Simula Concert—their biggest concert yet—happening on April 18, 2026, at the SMDC Festival Grounds. It will serve as the finale to their Simula at Wakas tour, which supported the release of their three-part EP (PagsibolPagtatag, and Simula at Wakas). Japanese boy group BE:FIRST was recently announced as part of the lineup.

  • PARI Unveils Bold New Vision for Philippine Music Industry; Announces Expanded and More Inclusive 39th Awit Awards!

PARI Unveils Bold New Vision for Philippine Music Industry; Announces Expanded and More Inclusive 39th Awit Awards!

Manila, Philippines — April 14, 2026 — The Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) unveiled its ambitious roadmap for the future of the local music industry during a well-attended press conference held at Viva Café on April 14. Leading the announcement was newly installed PARI President Enzo Valdez, who presented a comprehensive plan designed to benefit both industry stakeholders and music fans alike.

The event drew strong support from 35 recording label members and six partner music organizations, signaling broad industry alignment behind PARI’s renewed direction.

Central to the announcement is the upcoming 39th Awit Awards, which promises to be the most expansive and inclusive edition to date. For the first time, entries will be open to non-member artists, allowing independent musicians and their managers to submit nominations across categories. This milestone initiative reflects PARI’s commitment to widening access and recognizing a more diverse spectrum of Filipino musical talent.

A key innovation introduced by Valdez is the creation of the Awit Voting Community (AVC), a body tasked with selecting final nominees and winners. Eligible AVC members will include Awit Awards judges and finalists from the past five years, as well as designated representatives from PARI’s corporate and associate member labels—ensuring a credible, experienced, and representative voting body.

Further elevating this year’s awards is the introduction of two new major categories: Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year, recognizing individuals with the highest number of finalist entries and highlighting the vital contributions of creators behind the music.

PARI also announced strategic partnerships with key music organizations—Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM), the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP), the Asosasyon ng Musikong Pilipino (AMP), the Music Copyright Administrators of the Philippines (MCAP), Philippine Recorded Music Rights (PRM), and the Sound Recording Rights Society, Inc. (Soundsright). Each organization will be given on-stage presentation opportunities during major events, including the 39th Awit Awards—ranging from presenting awards to participating in program segments and delivering messages.

To ensure world-class production, PARI has partnered with Go Live Asia, led by Founder and Director Nico Faustino, Managing Director Ranice Faustino, and Creative Director Paolo Valenciano, for the staging of both the Awit Awards and the Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Awards. Creative and show direction will be led by Directors Paolo Valenciano and Nico Faustino. The Awit Awards Night is scheduled for September at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, while the Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Awards will take place in October at the historic Goldenberg Mansion in Malacañang.

Capping off the celebration is AwitFest, a major music festival set for January, featuring top Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artists alongside international guest performers—bringing together the best of Filipino talent on a global stage. Artists from PARI’s partner music organizations will also be invited to perform, reinforcing collaboration across the local music community. Go Live Asia will stage AwitFest, ensuring a world-class festival experience.

In addition, Japanese acts from Music Awards Japan members, through the Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA/MAJ), will be featured—creating a dynamic cross-cultural exchange between Filipino and Japanese artists.

PARI also introduced the Official PARI Certification Plaques, which will be available for ordering starting May 2026. These plaques aim to formally recognize and celebrate the commercial achievements of artists and record labels, further strengthening PARI’s certification program.

Proceeds from AwitFest will support the development of the Awit Museum, a flagship PARI initiative envisioned as a permanent cultural space dedicated to preserving, showcasing, and celebrating the rich history of Filipino music.

The Awit Museum aims to serve as a living archive of the country’s musical heritage, featuring iconic recordings, memorabilia, interactive exhibits, and educational programs that trace the evolution of OPM and honor the contributions of Filipino artists across generations. It is also envisioned as a hub for learning and inspiration—supporting future artists, songwriters, and producers through curated exhibits, workshops, and public engagement initiatives.

By linking AwitFest to this long-term cultural project, PARI reinforces its commitment not only to celebrating today’s music but also to safeguarding its legacy for generations to come.

“This is a defining moment for the Philippine music industry,” said Valdez. “We are opening doors wider than ever before—embracing independent artists, strengthening partnerships across organizations, and creating platforms that connect Filipino music to the global stage. Through these initiatives, we are not only celebrating excellence today, but also building a stronger, more inclusive future for generations of Filipino artists.”

PARI Chairman Antonio M. Ocampo underscored the organization’s long-term vision, stating: “The direction PARI is taking over the next few years is both purposeful and exciting. We are laying the groundwork for sustained growth—one that embraces innovation, strengthens industry collaboration, and ensures that Filipino music continues to thrive both locally and on the global stage.”

With these initiatives, PARI signals a dynamic new era for the Philippine music industry—one that champions inclusivity, innovation, and artistic excellence.

SNICKERS® Turns Manila into an Energy Playground with SEVENTEEN’s MINGYU at the Center

SNICKERS® activated Manila with an immersive pop-up experience at the Quantum Sky View of Gateway Mall 2, drawing thousands of visitors to a multi-day brand activation that combined interactive games, exclusive merchandise, and fan engagement. Running from April 8 to 11, the event formed part of the brand’s “Active Lifestyle” campaign and built toward a fan meet featuring SEVENTEEN member MINGYU at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The activation turned the mall space into a high-energy playground for fans and visitors, with steady foot traffic across all four days. Designed around participation and movement, the experience positioned SNICKERS® within the everyday routines of young Filipinos, balancing school, work, and social activities.

Visitors entering the SNICKERS® Energy Station Pop-Up received event passports that guided them through different activity zones. Each completed station earned a stamp, which could later be exchanged for rewards and exclusive items.

At the SNICKERS® Shot Combo station, participants took on a basketball challenge where each hoop represented a core ingredient of the SNICKERS® bar, including milk chocolate, peanuts, caramel, and nougat. The SNICKERS® Flip and Match station featured a memory-based game using SNICKERS® flavor cards, while SNICKERS® Power Grab challenged participants to catch falling SNICKERS® bars within a limited time.

The stations maintained steady queues throughout the activation period, with participants rotating between games, photo areas, and product displays.

Visitors who completed their event passports received a range of rewards, including SNICKERS® Strawberry bars, sticker sheets, and limited-edition merchandise such as tumblers and pouches, distributed in limited quantities.

The SNICKERS® Shop also became a key draw, offering a promotional MINGYU Transparent Card to customers who purchased PHP 250 worth of SNICKERS® products. The collectible quickly became one of the most sought-after items during the activation period.

The pop-up featured several curated spaces designed for fan interaction and content creation. Branded installations and large visuals of MINGYU served as primary photo spots, while the SNICKERS® Strawberry Snaps corner highlighted the brand’s newest flavor offering.

The SNICKERS® Energy Wall became a focal point of fan expression, filling up with handwritten messages over the course of the four-day activation. Many attendees left notes addressed directly to MINGYU, turning the installation into a collective fan board.

    SNICKERS-powered fan meet with MINGYU

The activation concluded with the #SNICKERSwithMINGYU fan meet on April 11 at Smart Araneta Coliseum, where approximately 3,000 raffle winners and their companions gathered for the main program.

MINGYU’s appearance drew loud reactions from the audience as he entered the stage to a packed arena. The fan meet featured a structured program that combined stage segments, games, and direct interaction with fans.

During a Q&A portion, MINGYU shared his experiences in the Philippines and reflected on his role as SNICKERS Asia Ambassador. The segment allowed fans to hear personal insights while maintaining a light and interactive tone throughout.

A basketball mini-game segment brought elements of the pop-up into the arena setting, with MINGYU engaging in a friendly challenge that mirrored the brand’s activity stations. He also spoke about his favorite SNICKERS® flavors and introduced the Strawberry variant highlighted in the activation.

One of the most notable moments of the fan meet came when fans surprised MINGYU with a birthday greeting. The audience sang “Happy Birthday” in unison as a cake was brought onstage, creating a celebratory moment that briefly shifted the tone of the program into a more intimate exchange between artist and fans.

The Manila activation connected a retail pop-up experience with a large-scale fan meet, extending SNICKERS®’ “Active Lifestyle” campaign across both mall-based engagement and live entertainment. The structure allowed audiences to interact with the brand in different formats while building anticipation toward the main event featuring MINGYU.

The strong turnout across both venues reflected sustained engagement from Filipino fans, particularly within the K-pop community, which continues to be a major driver of large-scale fan events in the country.

By combining interactive installations, limited-edition rewards, and a celebrity-led fan meet, SNICKERS® created a multi-layered experience that blended brand storytelling with fan culture in a single campaign ecosystem.

  • THEATRE GROUP ASIA (TGA) ANNOUNCES MORISSETTE AS MIDDLE ALLIE IN THE NOTEBOOK, THE MUSICAL’S INTERNATIONAL STAGE PREMIERE!

THEATRE GROUP ASIA (TGA) ANNOUNCES MORISSETTE AS MIDDLE ALLIE IN THE NOTEBOOK, THE MUSICAL’S INTERNATIONAL STAGE PREMIERE!

Theatre Group Asia (TGA) announces with great excitement the casting of acclaimed Filipino vocalist Morissette as Middle Allie in its upcoming production of The Notebook: The Musical, opening in September 2026 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater. Marking a significant milestone for Philippine theatre, the production will serve as the musical’s international premiere, placing Manila at the forefront of global stage storytelling.

Opening TGA’s 2026-27 season, The Notebook: The Musical is a stage adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ beloved novel, featuring music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson and a Tony-nominated book by Bekah Brunstetter. The musical debuted in 2022 at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater under the direction of Michael Greif and Schele Williams, then went onto to Broadway, where it received three Tony nominations.

While the story is widely recognized through its 2004 film adaptation starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, the stage version expands the narrative by portraying Allie and Noah across multiple stages of their lives, offering a layered perspective on how love matures, fractures, and ultimately endures. Praised for its emotional restraint and lyrical storytelling, the musical presents a more intimate and reflective interpretation of the classic romance, exploring themes of memory, aging, and devotion with contemporary musical sensibilities.

TGA’s Overall Artistic and Creative Director shares, “We are very honored to welcome Morissette to the TGA family. Casting Middle Allie is a tough process because the character’s songs are technically challenging as they are emotionally demanding. It takes a special kind of vocalist and actress to tackle this role. And we’re overjoyed Morissette welcomed the prospect. She’s spectacular!”

Morissette, widely known as “Asia’s Phoenix,” is a multi-award-winning Cebuana artist recognized for her extraordinary vocal range and commanding stage presence. Over a career spanning more than 15 years, she has established herself as one of the Philippines’ most celebrated performers, known for her powerful live vocals and her ability to connect deeply with audiences through music and storytelling.

Morissette first rose to national prominence through televised singing competitions before achieving international recognition with chart-topping songs, major concert productions, and collaborations with global artists such as Michael Bolton, Ben Adams, and Alan Menken. Her career has taken her to sold-out venues across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She previously appeared in the Philippine production of Camp Rock: The Musical, marking an early step into theatre. She was also one of the first performers who launched Circuit’s Blackbox Theater when she appeared in The Mister Kupido Musical, and was likewise one of the first performers in S-PAT with Favor Church. In 2025, she celebrated her 15th anniversary with Ember, a landmark solo concert. That same year, she made her film debut in Song of the Fireflies, earning Best Actress at the Manila International Film Festival.

Reflecting on her return to the stage, Morissette shares that the opportunity came at a meaningful moment in her career. “First and foremost, I’m so excited to be returning to the theater stage after almost a decade, and to be working with TGA on The Notebook: The Musical. The opportunity came at a perfect time because I had already been thinking about going back to theater,” she says, adding that she felt both surprised and deeply grateful to be entrusted with the role of Middle Allie. Having long admired the story, she notes, “I loved the film adaptation, and the songs from the musical are so beautiful and moving.”

She finds a personal connection in Middle Allie’s character, describing her as “free-spirited and strong-willed,” qualities she relates to in her own life. “I tend to take risks in my professional and personal life, and I fight for what I believe in,” she explains. As she immersed herself in the material, Morissette shares that the story resonated on a deeper level. “When I started studying it, it hit a little close to home. I really believe that to love and be loved is so empowering—it gives you the courage to take risks.”

For Morissette, the enduring appeal of The Notebook lies in its portrayal of love that evolves over time. “Love conquers all, especially when it stands the test of time like Allie and Noah’s does. I love how the story shows them across different generations and how their relationship grows and changes through the years,” she says. She also highlights the musical’s score as a defining element, describing it as “honest and sincere in portraying what the characters cannot simply say, very heartwarming yet powerful.”

In preparing for the role, Morissette has taken an immersive approach, returning to The Notebook for deeper insight into the characters and narrative while continuously engaging with the musical’s soundtrack. “I’ve been physically and vocally preparing myself to step into Middle Allie’s shoes and voice,” she shares.

As she steps into this new chapter, Morissette hopes audiences will see a different dimension of her artistry. “I want people to take away that I love storytelling just as much as I am capable of hitting big notes,” she says candidly, acknowledging both her excitement and nerves. “This is very different from what I’m used to, but I’m willing to relearn the discipline of theater, especially with a material as beautiful as this.”

With Morissette as integral part of the production, TGA’s The Notebook: The Musical is poised to be a landmark cultural event, one that brings together a globally celebrated story, a contemporary musical voice, and a defining Filipino artist in a production that promises to resonate deeply with audiences in Manila and beyond.

  • Our Shame and HengJones bring Taiwanese waves in Manila for All Of The Noise 2026

Our Shame and HengJones bring Taiwanese waves in Manila for All Of The Noise 2026

From folktronica to indigenous hip-hop, Our Shame and HengJones co-headline the regional music showcase and conference festival alongside artists from Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Taiwanese new wave hits the Philippines this month as alternative pop duo Our Shame and acclaimed hip-hop artist HengJones co-headline All Of The Noise 2026, a three-day, multi-venue and culture festival set across Astbury Makati (April 17 and 19), Sari-Sari Makati (April 17 and 19), and 123 Block in Mandaluyong City (April 18).

As two of the most promising emerging voices in the Taiwanese independent music scene, both acts will be joining an eclectic roster of lineup from the Asia Pacific region, including Indonesia’s Grrrl Gang, Arash Buana, and Gavendri; New Zealand’s Phoebe Rings, Singapore’s Shye, and our very own BP Valenzuela, DJ Love, Elijah Canlas, Fitterkarma, Ourselves the Elves, SOS, and more.

Making their official debut in Manila, Our Shame and HengJones bring distinct sonic identities honed by culture, experimentation, and storytelling. Our Shame will perform at the intimate Sari-Sari stage on April 17, while HengJones takes over the outdoor stage at 123 Block on April 18.

Our Shame arrives on the heels of their critically acclaimed Hidden Album, a concept-driven project that explores themes of intimacy and discovery through a layered folktronica lens. Combining acoustic instrumentation with field recordings and electronic textures that extend from trip-hop to UK garage influences, the indie duo makes compelling pop tunes that are sonically understated but whose songwriting feels personal and immersive. The Taiwanese pairing is currently developing extended works from the album, including prospective international collaborations with plans for a tour in Japan in late 2026 or early 2027.

HengJones, on the other hand, continues to gather incredible recognition for his debut album, fangcalay a tamedaw—a deeply introspective body of work rooted in Indigenous Pangcah (Amis) identity. Built on themes of matriarchal narratives and language preservation, the project reflects an important intersection of heritage and contemporary hip-hop culture. Following a well-lauded performance in Shibuya, Japan, HengJones is currently working on a new material featuring a Japanese producer, alongside major appearances and an upcoming nationwide tour in his home country, Taiwan.

Beyond live performances, All Of The Noise 2026 expands its cultural footprint through its Cut Through The Noise conference, tackling key issues shaping the regional music ecosystem, and Echoes of the Noise, a curated program of music documentaries exploring the intersections of sound, identity, and social movements.

With its multi-platform programming and cross-border collaborations, All Of The Noise 2026 continues its commitment to positioning the Philippines’ growing role as a vital hub in Asia’s burgeoning independent music landscape.
