  • Gab Cabangon marks debut as a solo artist with the indie guitar-pop track “Pieces”

Gab Cabangon marks debut as a solo artist with the indie guitar-pop track “Pieces”

The budding singer-songwriter releases a song that feels like a warm embrace in difficult times.

Filipino singer-songwriter Gab Cabangon steps into the spotlight with the release of “Pieces,” his first official single as a solo artist.

The acoustic indie pop track delivers an inspiring message for anyone going through the process of grief, uncertainty, and depression. Cabangon describes it as his “It’s Okay Not to Be Okay” song: an invitation for listeners to embrace vulnerability while holding on to the hope of healing and brighter days ahead.

“I want this song to be the soundtrack for people to allow themselves to go through the process of sadness and grief without feeling judged and without feeling alone,” Cabangon shares. “Part of the journey to fixing what may be broken is acknowledging the sadness and frustration that some things aren’t okay, but also knowing there will always be someone or something to help you stand up again.”

Originally penned as an anniversary gift to his then-girlfriend (now wife) during the pandemic, “Pieces” quickly evolved beyond a personal dedication. When Cabangon began performing it during livestreams and gigs, the song resonated deeply with audiences, often moving listeners to tears. The experience affirmed his decision to bring the song into the studio and share it with a wider audience.

“It also helps that I’m in a place right now where I could really invest in my music and do it at a certain level that I can be proud of,” Gab adds. “I also found friends and people who I wanted to collaborate with to bring my song to life both from a music standpoint and a visual standpoint. They helped me achieve the vision for the song, and they helped me be a better artist and collaborator during the process.”

The song is produced in collaboration with long-time friend and music director David Lina, who brought warmth and tender instrumental work to the arrangements, and mixed and mastered by Shadiel “Shad” Chan and Jan Fuertez, whose sonic touches complemented the poignant feel of the material. With lush acoustic textures and poignant storytelling, the song also reflects Cabangon’s vision of creating music that could easily belong to a film soundtrack.

“Pieces” marks a turning point in Cabangon’s career. After years of performing live (both solo and as the frontman of K.E.) and advocating for OPM, he admits that a shift in mindset allowed him to finally pursue recording as a solo artist.

Cabangon explains, “For the longest time, I was very hesitant to release new music as a solo artist. At first, I thought I would be content just being a gigging artist. But the hunger and desire to record and release new music never left me. So late last year, I made the conscious decision that I wanted to finally release music as ‘Gab Cabangon’.”

With “Pieces,” the budding artist offers a soundtrack to listeners’ life stories, exploring themes of love, healing, and resilience in a remarkably relatable way. As stated in his press statement, “Pieces” serves as an introduction to the themes that he will be writing as a recording artist.

“Not to give away too much, but I’d like to think that it’s the opening song to a letter that I’m writing for the people who are trying to learn to love again,” he adds. ‘People are definitely going to expect more music from me moving forward, and they’ll just have to keep on following my music journey to find out more.”

Gab Cabangon’s “Pieces” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.

  • The Only ‘Ghosting’ We Want: Cup of Joe’s “Multo” Haunts Spotify PH All the Way to #1

The Only ‘Ghosting’ We Want: Cup of Joe’s “Multo” Haunts Spotify PH All the Way to #1

In a plot twist worthy of a teleserye cliffhanger, Cup of Joe’s runaway hit “Multo” is creeping closer and closer to OPM immortality. The beloved five-piece band is on the brink of making OPM history, as “Multo” breaks the record for the longest-running #1 song on the Spotify Philippines Daily Chart – a title currently held by Zack Tabudlo’s “Pano.” It’s a moment that not only celebrates Cup of Joe’s meteoric rise but also marks an exciting new chapter for OPM.

    Cup of Joe

Since its release, “Multo” has become a full-blown streaming phenomenon, racking up over 1.18 million streams a day and holding the highest spot for a jaw-dropping 210 days and the #1 spot for 125 days (and counting!). At one point, it even shattered records for the highest single-day streams in Spotify PH history, clocking in at a spooky-good 2.3 million plays in just 24 hours. If that’s not hauntingly impressive, we don’t know what is.

But “Multo” didn’t stop at just local domination. The song also made global waves, becoming the first Filipino act to enter the Billboard Global 200, eventually peaking at #80, a ghostly milestone that proves OPM is no longer just a local love affair. Back home, the track ruled the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 for 10 straight weeks, the longest run in the chart’s history. No need for a séance, Cup of Joe’s star power is very much alive.

Their unique fusion of soul, synth, and aching sincerity strikes a deep chord with a generation all too familiar with heartbreak. “Multo” floats between worlds, just like its title – existing both in your Spotify loop and in the hearts of Joewahs everywhere.

With the record well within reach, Cup of Joe is far from finished. The band is fired up and ready to make waves once again with their upcoming 3-day SOLD OUT Concert titled ‘Stardust’ at the Smart Araneta Coliseum where fans (aka the ever-dedicated Joewahs) are expected to show up, sing loud, and cry harder. Because if “Multo” has taught us anything, it’s that OPM is alive, thriving, and ready to haunt not just our hearts, but also the global stage.

  • Zion Aguirre’s “Ayoko Na” Music Video: A Heart-Wrenching Tale of Unspoken Love

Zion Aguirre’s “Ayoko Na” Music Video: A Heart-Wrenching Tale of Unspoken Love

Singer-songwriter Zion Aguirre has returned with a powerful and emotional music video for his single “Ayoko Na,” released under Tarsier Records. The video, which premiered on July 29, 2025, on Tarsier Records’ YouTube channel, features “PBB Otso” housemate Argel Saycon and “PBB Gen 11” housemate Jas Dudley-Scales. It brings to life the song’s poignant narrative about the exhaustion and pain of unrequited or unspoken love.

The music video portrays Argel and Jas as best friends who are secretly in love with each other but remain unaware of their mutual feelings. This premise amplifies the heart-wrenching emotions embedded in the song, capturing the weariness of loving someone who causes pain, whether intentionally or not.

The storyline resonates with the song’s theme of wanting to give up due to emotional fatigue, making it a relatable and moving visual for many viewers.

Right now mas nagiging straightforward na po yung lyrics sa mga bawat kantang sinusulat ko. Nasa era na ako na kung anong gusto long sabihin sa song, I say it and write it directly.

“Ayoko Na” marks Zion Aguirre’s comeback after a two-year hiatus, with the single originally released on March 28, 2025. Zion has shared that the song is deeply personal, reflecting the emotions he experienced while abroad during his break. “Lahat ng emotions ko beforehand dito ko nailagay kasi kung papakinggan nyo yung song, maririnig nyo mismo kung gaano na siya kapagod in life, parang ayoko na!” he explained. While the song touches on general feelings of exhaustion, its core revolves around the complexities of love.

PC: What perspective you can bring to the Philippine music industry?

I think I have my own personality na sobrang different from everyone else. Isang genre kami pero I think iba iba yung tunog at boses namin and yun ang magiging space ko sa music industry. I would like to claim it, I am Zion Aguirre.”

The music video has been praised for its emotional depth and the chemistry between Argel and Jas, whose performances enhance the storytelling. Fans can watch the full video on Tarsier Records’ YouTube channel and stream the single on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. For more updates, follow Tarsier Records and ABS-CBN Music on social media platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok.

Zion Aguirre continues to solidify his place in the music scene with “Ayoko Na,” a track that combines raw emotion with a compelling visual narrative, leaving listeners and viewers alike moved by its authenticity.

  • Rico Blanco bids a beautiful goodbye in new song “Paalam”

Rico Blanco bids a beautiful goodbye in new song “Paalam”

A song spanning many years to complete, finally makes its moment.

Following the renewed success of his solo catalog—particularly “Your Universe,” which recently broke into Spotify Philippines’ Top 10—Rico Blanco returns with “Paalam,” a hauntingly spare but exquisitely crafted ballad that captures the enduring imprint of goodbyes in all its bittersweet and hopeful glory.

Equal parts love song and meditation on loss, “Paalam” contemplates the emotional weight of parting, whether from a person, a chapter, a place, or a former self. In Blanco’s hands, goodbye becomes not only an act of release and reawakening, but also a gift that offers clarity, grounding, and ultimately, healing.

“Out of all the songs I’ve released, Paalam is the song that took me the longest to finish,” the multi-awarded music hyphenate admits. “Some songs I finish in minutes, days, or weeks, but this one has been a work in progress for many, many years.”

Originally inspired by a former bandmate’s departure in the ‘90s, the song evolved over time and took deeper shape following the recent passing of Blanco’s brother. For years, he hesitated to record it for himself and was convinced another voice might better serve its purpose. “All these years, I kept waiting for the right singer to come along,” he reveals.

But with its kundiman arrangements and intricate orchestral builds, the song taps into something powerful and primal, as if unlocking something personal from Rico without completely giving away the story.

“Production-wise, I always knew how I wanted the song to sound,” shares Rico. “I wanted it to have a timeless arrangement, or some would say a bit traditional.”

Rico Blanco’s “Paalam” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

  • Filipino artist Muri and Japanese producer Shigge to release joint EP, SETSUNA next week!

Filipino artist Muri and Japanese producer Shigge to release joint EP, SETSUNA next week!

The new record combines elements of neo-soul and pop with drum n’ bass, UKG, and house music.

Filipino indie pop/soul artist Muri and Japanese electronic producer Shigge are slated to release their first joint EP, SETSUNA, on all digital music platforms worldwide this August 8, 2025.

A Japanese word with Buddhist origins that means “instant,” SETSUNA symbolizes the beauty of moments: they’re fleeting yet powerful.

“Our EP, SETSUNA, hopes to capture moments that can seem insignificant yet hold a lot of importance,” Muri explains. “Where insight or enlightenment arrives when we least expect it or look for it.”

The cross-cultural collaboration brings the best of both worlds from Muri and Shigge, combining a mix of genres like neo-soul, house, and UKG with dance-infused rhythms and drum n’ bass. Muri admits listening to a lot of synth-driven dance/house music to get into the groove of the sound: from Kaytranada to Cody Curry and PinkPantheress.

Muri reveals, “This was our first time creating a joint EP together. When we wrote our first song it was initially unsettling, as we navigated our shared style and ventured beyond our comfort zones. But looking back at it, the experience was one that was very exciting because you have no idea how it will turn out, and at the end you both really enjoy what you create. Aside from our single GOLDEN HOUR, which we wrote together in person, the creative process was quite smooth. We wrote the rest of the EP remotely from Manila, Tokyo, and London, sending demos back and forth and iterating on each other’s ideas.”

Earlier this month, Muri and Shigge embarked on a tour in Tokyo to perform some of the songs from SETSUNA. The electronic-soul pairing is set to conclude their collab tour in Manila on August 1, 2025, at Sari-Sari Bar for The Rest Is Noise PH’s 43rd show, and on August 2, 2025 at Electric Sala for Locked Down Night.

  • Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and Indonesian Superstar Raisa Team Up in a Powerful Southeast Asian Collaboration of ‘Rainbow’

Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and Indonesian Superstar Raisa Team Up in a Powerful Southeast Asian Collaboration of ‘Rainbow’

This fresh take on the South Border classic also marks Bautista’s first release under Sony Music Entertainment.

Asia’s Romantic Balladeer, Christian Bautista, has dropped his long-awaited single, “Rainbow,” out today via his new record label, Sony Music Entertainment.

The heartfelt duet, featuring Indonesian singer-songwriter Raisa, reimagines the South Border classic as a soulful pop-R&B ballad blending Christian Bautista’s smooth baritone with Raisa’s velvety vocals in a lush, emotionally charged arrangement that captures the kind of longing and connection that lingers long after the last note.

“‘Rainbow’ is one of those songs that’s always stayed with me,” says Bautista. “It resonates deeply, not just in the Philippines, but also in Indonesia. Working on it with Raisa gave it new energy and meaning, and it felt right to share it in this way now.”

Simply because I love this song—I grew up with this song—and I didn’t even know at first that it was a Filipino artist who sang it!” shares Raisa. “When I found out, I was surprised. It has such a special meaning—not just about love but about life. It’s a reassurance of rainbow after the rain. It’s something people can relate to and carry with them every day.”

Christian Bautista and Raisa’s rendition of “Rainbow” delivers a heartfelt interpretation of the timeless OPM classic, heralding an exciting new era for both Southeast Asian music icons. The collaboration was made possible thanks to a 13-city ASEAN concert in Japan, where Bautista and Raisa shared the stage as fellow performers.

Bautista recalls, “We got along very well as friends and as performers during that time. It became a natural idea for us to want to collaborate. We talked about the songs we both loved, and ‘Rainbow’ stood out for both of us. That’s when everything started to fall into place. It wasn’t just the melody, it’s message of hope, comfort, and being there for someone through life’s storms really resonated with both of us.”

Christian is already so big in Indonesia—I grew up listening to him,” Raisa adds. “He’s such a great balladeer and vocalist. We finally got to spend time together on that Japan tour. What I admire most is his musicality and his beautiful personality. When the idea to collaborate came up, of course, I said yes.

Christian Bautista has long held a strong presence in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Philippines and Indonesia, where his music, performances, and sincere artistry have earned him a devoted following. Known for his romantic ballads and warm stage presence, he became a household name through his hit songs and regional television appearances. This deep connection with audiences in both countries makes his duet with Raisa not only meaningful but a natural and highly anticipated musical moment in the region.

“This has been a long-awaited collaboration for many of our fans across the region,” shares Bautista. “We’ve both heard from listeners in the Philippines and Indonesia who’ve been hoping for this moment, so it feels incredibly special—not just for us, but for everyone who’s supported our music. We’re truly grateful to Sony Music for helping bring it to life.”

“The Philippines is a huge market with so many great singers and amazing music,” Raisa notes. “I’ve never tapped into that market before, and I want to expand my reach. I hope the Filipino audience will welcome me.

Raisa is a multi-awarded Indonesian singer-songwriter, celebrated for her soulful voice, heartfelt ballads, and elegant artistry that have made her a standout in the region’s music scene. Known for her ability to blend emotional depth with modern pop sensibilities, she has released numerous chart-topping singles and critically acclaimed albums. With millions of loyal listeners across Southeast Asia and collaborations with some of the region’s top talents, Raisa continues to shape the sound of contemporary Indonesian pop and remains one of its most influential and admired voices.

Their musical chemistry is evident in the track, with each of their distinct yet complementary vocals shining both individually and in harmony.

With a timeless song like this, you really shouldn’t do too much,” Raisa explains. “We kept the arrangement close to the original but adjusted it to fit a male-female duet—some key changes, harmonies, and little details. Every step of the way, we made sure we honored the song. It’s such a huge song from the Philippines—we just wanted to do it justice.

“We discovered how well our vocal styles complemented each other when we performed together,” Bautista shares. “We both give our all in every performance, but we also know when to step back and let the other shine. That balance was key in making this rendition emotionally captivating and honest.”

Paying homage to the original arrangement while infusing it with a contemporary, cross-cultural resonance was no small feat. With a collaborative team of both Filipino and Indonesian producers and arrangers, each attuned to the musical sensibilities of their cultures, the duet was crafted to resonate widely without losing its emotional core.

The biggest challenge was time,” Raisa admits. “We recorded together but couldn’t finish at the same time due to our tight schedules, so we had to complete parts separately. That’s hard for a duet—you have to match details like vibrato, phrasing… But in the end, we blended well, and I really think we gave the song something fresh while still paying homage to the original. And honestly, I think Filipino and Indonesian listeners have a lot in common—we both love ballads, romantic themes, 90s R&B, and a touch of nostalgia,” Raisa adds. “There’s a natural connection between our audiences.

The multi-awarded Filipino pop icon explains, “Staying true to the spirit of the original while making it meaningful for today’s listeners was something we truly cared about,” shares Bautista. “We each brought our reflections into the song, hoping it would resonate in a deeper, more intimate way—wherever in the world it’s heard.”

As for what’s next? The fans have every reason to be excited.

“We’re currently planning joint performances and a music video,” Bautista teases. “This isn’t the end: it’s a continuation of a musical bridge between the Philippines and Indonesia. We hope to open more doors for future collaborations.”

I certainly hope so,” says Raisa. “This song will truly come to life when performed in person. It’s just another reason for me to visit the Philippines—or for Christian to come back to Indonesia! When you collaborate with a dear friend, it’s always more fun to do things together. It makes the experience that much more soulful.

Rainbow” by Christian Bautista featuring Raisa is now available on all major streaming platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

  • “Mapasakin Ka” — The Surprise Sam and Moira Collab

“Mapasakin Ka” — The Surprise Sam and Moira Collab

Sam Concepcion is one busy guy. His first-ever series with GMA, Beauty Empire, just premiered on Viu last June 16, and will then be seen on GMA starting July 7. He is also returning on stage as Joseph in Joseph the Dreamer at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza this July.

As if those were not enough, Sam just dropped a new single under Universal Records last July 4 — and it is a surprise collaboration with Moira Dela Torre. Entitled “Mapasakin Ka,” the duet is a heartfelt love song with soft harmonies and vivid imagery — expressing sincerity, longing, and devotion. At its core, it’s a gentle plea for love to be returned, sung in the most honest way the heart knows how.

Sam and Moira are known for their soulful voice and emotive singing, and there is definitely a lot of that in this unexpected collaboration, especially with lyrics such as: “Pag-ibig mo na ang hanap ng aking kamay, handang-handang marinig ang tanging tunay na nararamdaman mo sa’kin, o, aking sinta.”

This musical partnership may be unexpected for a lot of people, but it makes so much sense. Sam’s soulful voice perfectly fits the message and the melody of a song about yearning, while Moira’s melancholic singing style and soothing voice provide a contrasting yet complementary contribution to “Mapasakin Ka.”

This power duet from Sam and Moira is now available on all major streaming platforms.
You can catch “Mapasakin Ka” in Beauty Empire, and be sure to check out the lyric video on Universal Records’ YouTube channel. Stay tuned for the official music video coming soon!

Filipino soul-pop artist Muri and Japanese electronic producer Shigge tease upcoming new track “Golden Hour”

Born in Bali, refined across continents, their joint single kicks off a new era of sonic experiments and international synergy.

Filipino singer-songwriter Muri and Japanese producer Shigge have officially announced their collaborative new single, “Golden Hour,” via a minimalist teaser posted to Instagram last night, sparking anticipation for their cross-border release.

    Muri

The soul-infused electronic track was conceived during an intensive songwriting camp at the AXEAN Festival in Bali, Indonesia last year, where Muri and Shigge crossed creative paths. What began as a spontaneous studio session has evolved into months of sonic exchange, with ideas bouncing fluidly between Tokyo, London, and Manila.

“I found Shigge’s music really unique and forward-thinking,” Muri shares in a press statement. “When we got the chance to work with each other at the songwriting camp, I felt we could make a really cool world fusing our styles together. For me, music is all about experimenting and trying something new, and this is a result of that.”

“Golden Hour” marks the first official release from their upcoming joint EP, SETSUNA, slated to drop next month. Described as a boundary-pushing collection of lo-fi house beats, ambient soundscapes, and neo-soul vocals, the EP promises a fresh take on cross-cultural music production.

To celebrate the collaboration, Muri and Shigge will embark on a two-city tour spanning Tokyo and Manila this July and August.

    Tour dates:

    • July 22 – Tokyo City, Japan
    • July 24 – Tokyo City, Japan
    • August 1 – Makati City, Philippines
    • August 2 – Makati City, Philippines
