  • Stars Gather on May 11 and 12 for Ryan Cayabyab’s “Gen C” Birthday Musical Tribute

Stars Gather on May 11 and 12 for Ryan Cayabyab’s “Gen C” Birthday Musical Tribute

The biggest names in Philippine recording, TV, cinema, and stage are converging at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater on May 11 and 12, 2024 for “Gen C” — a musical offering in honor of National Artist Ryan Cayabyab’s 70th birthday.

Topnotch artists are set to perform and collaborate with Maestro Ryan Cayayab a.k.a. Mr. C. for this once-in-a-lifetime extravaganza.

On May 11, the guests include Aicelle Santos, Arman Ferrer, Ateneo Chamber Singers, Basil Valdez, Belle Mariano, Bituin Escalante, Dilaw, Jed Madela, John Arcilla, Kakai Bautista, Karylle Tatlonghari, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Nonie Buencamino, Nyoy Volante, Phi Palmos, Regine Velasquez, Sheila Valderrama-Martinez, Stell of SB19, The Company, and The Ryan Cayabyab Singers.

Returning for the May 12 show are Aicelle Santos, Arman Ferrer, Ateneo Chamber Singers, Basil Valdez, Bituin Escalante, Jed Madela, John Arcilla, Kakai Bautista, Karylle Tatlonghari, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Nonie Buencamino, Phi Palmos, Sheila Valderrama-Martinez, The Company, and The Ryan Cayabyab Singers. On this date, they are joined by Ben & Ben, Bini, Janella Salvador, Juan Karlos, Julie Anne San Jose, and Vice Ganda.

The artists will be accompanied by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO).

The first birthday tribute of Mr. C was held in 1995 (a year after his 40th birthday) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and produced by Culturtain Musicat Productions, the company of singer Celeste Legaspi and talent manager Girlie Rodis.

ABS-CBN would produce all-star tributes for the composer in the next two decades: “Musicman@50” in 2004 and “Mr. C@60” in 2014.

In 2019, the year Mr. C became a National Artist and a Ramon Magsaysay awardee, the UP College of Medicine honored him through “SOAP Opera (Musika ni Ryan, Medisina ng Bayan”).

Mr. C wrote on Facebook that Celeste Legaspi and Girlie Rodis were insistent on gathering his long-time and newfound friends in the industry for the 2024 tribute. He said, “Hindi pumayag sina Celeste and GR na palampasin itong taon without a musical offering featuring more of my songs.” Culturtain Musicat is spearheading “Gen C”.

The title—which is obviously a play on the first letter of the composer’s last name and in reference to today’s youth—describes the broad appeal of Mr. C.’s genius.

Producer Dr. Melfred L. Hernandez explained, “Gen C is not a demographic group; it’s not about an age bracket but a mindset, a group bound by love for and influence of the music of this National Artist and treasure.”

Producer Aaron Veloso also disclosed, “It’s heartwarming to know that teenagers and people from my generation, together with their parents and grandparents, have been our early and excited ticket buyers.”

The National Artist expressed utmost thanks to all those involved in this project to be directed by Rowell Santiago. Mr. C said, “Hindi siya ganun kadali… Pagmamahal, pagkakaibigan at respeto sa craft ang siyang nangagpapatakbo ng ganitong klaseng proyekto. Isa siyang hiwaga. Pramis.”

“Gen C” is produced by Culturtain Musicat in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Samsung Performing Arts Theater, and Ayala Land, for the benefit of the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation.

Sponsors include Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, American Eye Center, Avolution, Ayala Land Premier-Dasmariñas Group, Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant, CMB Film, Joey’s Place, RMA Studio Academy, and Dawns Rack Kasuotan At Iba Pa, with benefactors: MedInfinity, Inc, RAF Forwarding Phils, Inc, Shiphealth and PNB PGH Branch.

“Gen C” showtime is at 7:30 pm. To purchase tickets, visit the Ticketworld website here.

  • joem releases “Nakaraan” Music Video – A  teaser to Enrique Gil’s “I Am Not Big Bird” movie scenes

joem releases “Nakaraan” Music Video – A  teaser to Enrique Gil’s “I Am Not Big Bird” movie scenes

joem’s “Nakaraan” official music video might just be the push you need if you’re still thinking if whether to watch Enrique Gil’s “I Am Not Big Bird” comeback movie.

While “Nakaraan” is your perfect soundtrack while riding on a bus and dramatically staring out the window— the official music video teases fans of the antics of Enrique’s comedic quartet (Nikko Natividad, Red Ollero, Pepe Herera, plus the King of the Gil himself) and their colorfully complicated “iyak-tawa” experiences in Bangkok. Enrique is also seen in tear-jerker scenes in the music video, because you know, moving on is not linear.

The song has been making waves since its release on February 9, captivating fans who attended the movie’s promotional mall tour where joem gets to perform “Nakaraan” in front of thousands of viewers. This was followed by massive airplay from Manila’s largest radio stations, full-blown media pick-ups, TV, and physical guestings. On February 13, joem also had an appearance at the “I Am Not Big Bird” premiere night. These are definitely the most exciting times for a young artist. The future does shine bright for joem.

  • Random Hits Live Shines the Spotlight on OPM Icon Joey G

Random Hits Live Shines the Spotlight on OPM Icon Joey G

It’s the voice. It’s the songs. And it’s definitely the overall contributions to the great OPM Songbook that makes an artist great, and span decades with the timeless adoration and respect by his/her fellow peers and audiences worldwide.

Joey G. is definitely one of those artists.

A songwriter/singer/performer who has endeared himself and his body of work to music fans through the
decades… it is simply a remarkable feat that he is still at it… and shows no signs of slowing down, nor chooses to stop and smell the proverbial roses.

Which is why concert production outfit Random Minds is proud to announce that this November 5th, fans will be able to enjoy a full night of both reminiscing and appreciating Joey G’s extensive repertoire with its second installment of the Random Hits Live series at the famed New Frontier Theater at the Araneta Center, Cubao.

Dubbed Joey G. Side Ko Lang…longtime followers can expect nothing but the absolute best from the celebrated performer, whose uncanny ability to fuse the best in pop/rock/adult contemporary music with painfully sincere lyricism has elevated his status to that of legendary in the country. With his too-many-to-count smash hits with his former outfit Side A (ditties like “Forevermore,” “So Many Questions” “Set You Free” and “Hold On,” to name a very select few…) to his melodically enthralling recent releases like 2021’s “Deep Inside” and this year’s “Letting You Go,” it is without a doubt that this will truly be one magical evening for fans of all ages.

Also joining Joey G. is fellow hit-maker Juris, who is slated to add even more enchanting songs that everyone will surely sing-along-to and appreciate.

“Random Hits Live is a series of shows featuring both local and international acts wherein audiences can enjoy both a host of hit songs and new music from their favorite artists,” says Random Minds’ main man Allan Villegas.

“Our first installment featured Korean group Dreamcatcher, so we figured it was only natural that we also
celebrate our very own legendary talents like Joey G. And as for Side Ko Lang… we also plan to bring the show out on tour outside of Manila,” shares Villegas.

  • Sandwich extends its contract with PolyEast Records with the release of the new single “Nyare?”

Sandwich extends its contract with PolyEast Records with the release of the new single “Nyare?”

This 2023, Filipino rock band Sandwich is celebrating a huge milestone — its 25th anniversary. In February 2023, the band had already kickstarted the celebration by returning to its roots and gathering fans and friends on a trip down memory lane as they performed their 1999 debut album “Grip Stand Throw” in its entirety. With hopes of continuing its legacy in OPM, Sandwich has also renewed its contract with PolyEast Records, its home recording label since 2005.

Accompanied by the band’s manager Darwin Hernandez, Sandwich members Raymund Marasigan, Mong Alcaraz, Diego Castillo, Myrene Academia, and Mike Dizon recently met with the general manager of PolyEast Records, Jesmon Chua, to renew their recording contract. 25-year-old band Sandwich renews recording contract with PolyEast Records. (From top to bottom, left to right: Darwin Hernandez, Jesmon Chua, Raymund Marasigan, Mong Alcaraz, Diego Castillo, Myrene Academia, Mike Dizon) Continuing the hype for their celebration, Sandwich released the new track “Nyare?” on all digital and streaming platforms. This is the first of four new planned singles, with the next one coming out on July 25– all leading up to the release of the anniversary EP slated for October 2023. Written by the band, “Nyare?” showcases their trademark knack for making catchy and fuzz-driven rock. Again, it was recorded and engineered by longtime collaborator Shinji Tanaka at Kodama Studios.

In the new single’s lyrics, Sandwich expresses how they– just like the rest of us– still have to navigate the uncertainty our new normal brings. They sing, “‘Di ka na naman mapakali. Ano bang nangyari kagabi?” No matter how long around the block they’ve been, they’re still trying to make sense of it all. In the process, this pondering prompts more questions than answers.

In 2022, the group released “No Goodbyes,” an EP containing five songs. They even released an official music video for the track “Negatives,” a small addition to their lengthy discography with nine full-length albums, but it helped the band get back on track after the pandemic lull. Moreover, they are itching to release more new songs this year and of course, the signature live shows that only Sandwich can deliver.

“Nyare?” is just the first of many fresh tracks scheduled throughout the year. The band remains as excited as they were when they jammed for the first time that afternoon in a garage in BF Homes in Parañaque.

“Nyare?” by Sandwich is available on all digital and streaming platforms. You can also watch the official lyric video of the single on PolyEast Records’ YouTube channel.

  • Cedric Escobar Makes Long-Awaited Debut Single, “‘Di Na Ba”

Cedric Escobar Makes Long-Awaited Debut Single, “‘Di Na Ba”

    Single Available Now

Cedric Escobar may be a new name to the OPM scene, but he’s one of the best rising artists to watch out for this year. At 23, he’s reaching for his dreams as he signed a recording deal with PolyEast Records and finally releases his first-ever single, a heartbreaking ballad titled ‘Di Na Ba.’

Cedric launched his debut single “‘Di Na Ba” during the first “The LiVeRARY Night.” The LiVeRARY is a series of online performances on YouTube created during the pandemic in 2021 eventually bringing the PolyEast Records artists to us live on stage. Co-presented by FUGA, the world’s leading B2B music distribution, marketing services and technology company, the event was held Tuesday, March 21, at 12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub in Pasig City. Cedric performed his single along with some covers for the lively audience and a few people from the media.

Inspired by Cedric’s anecdote of his love life, “‘Di Na Ba” is composed by his mentor and Introvoys’ drummer, Paco Arespacochaga. The song is about asking a girl if there’s still a chance to reunite and continue their story, even if she’s already with someone new.

A musician at heart, the up-and-coming pop balladeer has been singing since he was a kid. Growing up in New York, he experienced joining a gospel choir and even entering competitions in other cities. Passionate for his craft, Cedric wanted to pursue music school. However, his parents were against it and he ended up studying for a medical course at Queens College, New York.

Equipped with experience in performing live, he first sang for KZ Tandingan in 2019 for her U.S. World Tour. Soon after, he also served as an opening act for artists such as Jaya, Juan Karlos, and even the Introvoys. That is where he met his mentor, Paco Arespacochaga.

Living in the Philippines since 2016, Cedric has been trying to establish his music career. But even though he’s exposed to and heavily influenced by genres such as gospel, soul, and R&B, he wants to bring back the 90’s OPM sound. Luckily, he already has a loyal following that has been supporting him throughout the process.

He shares, “Masarap magkaroon ng fanbase na Filipino kasi iba tumangkilik ang mga Filipino sa mga artists.”

He says that he’s been dreaming about it since childhood and it was part of his vision board. He has already stumbled upon opportunities but says, “When it does come, it doesn’t always come back. So when something like this happens, I must take the leap and give it my 100%.” Cedric admits it took a long time, but it’s finally happening as an album with his label PolyEast Records is set to be released this 2023 with songs all written in Tagalog.

“‘Di Na Ba” by Cedric Escobar is now on all digital music streaming platforms. You can also watch the official performance video on PolyEast Records’ YouTube channel.
