  • Chicosci to Mark 20 Years of Landmark Album With Anniversary Show, Vinyl Release

Chicosci to Mark 20 Years of Landmark Album With Anniversary Show, Vinyl Release

MANILA โ€” Influential Filipino rock band Chicosci is set to mark the 20th anniversary of its self-titled album with a live show on June 6, alongside the recordโ€™s first official vinyl release.

Titled A Toast to All Our Crimes, the anniversary show will center on the bandโ€™s 2006 release. A seminal project widely seen as a turning point in both Chicosciโ€™s career and the broader local rock landscape during a period of transition for original Pilipino music. Composed of vocalist Miggy Chavez, guitarist Mong Alcaraz, bassist Eco del Rio and drummer Victor Guison, the band is set to unleash this exciting show to commemorate one of their most iconic records.

Released at a time when the scene was shifting between acoustic pop, โ€œpogi rock,โ€ and the fading wave of early nu metal, the album introduced a tighter, more aggressive sound that expanded the bandโ€™s reach. Its tracks became staples of packed live performances across the country, helping cement Chicosciโ€™s crossover appeal.

โ€œThis album was a test for the band,โ€ said Mong. โ€œIn 2006, it was a strange time in OPM. For the first time, we decided to do everything ourselves โ€” writing, recording, production, marketing, packaging, and distribution. It was our first step as an independent band, and weโ€™ve remained that band since.โ€

For the upcoming show, the band will perform the album in full, revisiting the material that defined its mid-2000s run while reintroducing it to a new live audience.

โ€œWeโ€™ll be playing the White Album in its entirety, along with a few more songs,โ€ shares Miggy. โ€œWeโ€™ve been rehearsing a lot for this show, and weโ€™re excited for people to experience it โ€” even our soundcheck, if theyโ€™re into that.โ€

The anniversary also coincides with the albumโ€™s long-awaited vinyl release, answering years of demand from longtime listeners and offering a new entry point for younger audiences discovering the bandโ€™s catalog.

โ€œI think itโ€™s important for us to celebrate this album because it resonated with so many people,โ€ Chavez said. โ€œIt means a lot to us, and itโ€™s mind-blowing that it continues to mean a lot to others as well.โ€

Two decades on, Chicosciโ€™s influence remains evident in a new wave of local acts that draw from the same blend of melody and weight. The anniversary show serves as both a reflection on the past and a test of the albumโ€™s enduring relevance.

โ€œThe album was a massive turning point for the band,โ€ Chavez added. โ€œCelebrating it 20 years later is a testament to how far weโ€™ve come โ€” and we couldnโ€™t have done it without everyone whoโ€™s been with us along the way.โ€

A Toast to All Our Crimes: 20 Years of the Chicosci Album takes place on June 9 at Soundcheck Inc. in Pasig, with Kamikazee joining the lineup. Tickets are available at https://bit.ly/CHICOSCI20years.

  • Cup of Joe Builds Momentum for Historic Stadium Concert With New EPย Sandali

Cup of Joe Builds Momentum for Historic Stadium Concert With New EPย Sandali

With anticipation building for their biggest headline show to date, Cup of Joe is entering a defining new era with the release of their brand new EP, Sandali. The six-track project arrives just weeks before the highly anticipated SANDALI: Cup of Joe Fest happening on May 23, 2026 at the Philippine Sports Stadium โ€” a milestone concert expected to gather thousands of fans in celebration of the bandโ€™s meteoric rise.

The North-grown hitmakers continue to reach new heights following the massive success of their album Silakbo, while also earning international recognition with a nomination at the Music Awards Japan 2026 for โ€œMultoโ€ under the Best Song Asia category. But before they take over the stadium stage later this month, Cup of Joe offers fans a glimpse into their current creative chapter through Sandali โ€” a body of work shaped by shared experiences, personal growth, and the quiet lessons learned along the way. According to the band during a recent press conference, the EP reflects the maturity theyโ€™ve gained both as artists and as individuals navigating life together.

Designed with the energy of a live crowd in mind, Sandali feels tailor-made for the massive singalongs and emotional moments that fans can expect at Cup of Joe Fest. The EP opens with the powerful titular track โ€œSandali,โ€ an anthem of resilience and loyalty, before moving into the nostalgic coming-of-age themes of โ€œPamahiin.โ€ It then slows down with the emotional weight of โ€œKung Payaganโ€ and โ€œLalayo,โ€ eventually culminating in โ€œIsang Daan,โ€ a stirring anthem about overcoming fear and choosing a path forward. Together, the tracks create a cohesive narrative that mirrors the bandโ€™s journey โ€” one that fans will soon witness unfold live onstage.

While Silakbo explored the raw and unpredictable stages of grief, Sandali emerges as a brighter, more hopeful continuation of that story. The band retains the soulful vulnerability and melodic storytelling that defined their earlier work, while embracing playful synths, bigger hooks, and a more urgent rhythmic energy fit for a stadium crowd. As Cup of Joe prepares for one of the biggest concerts of their career, Sandali stands as both a celebration of how far theyโ€™ve come and an invitation for listeners to grow alongside them.

  • โ€œMinsan Gig sa Skydomeโ€ returns with two distinct nights of Sound and Community on May 8โ€“9

โ€œMinsan Gig sa Skydomeโ€ returns with two distinct nights of Sound and Community on May 8โ€“9

Inspired by the Route 196 era, the series reconnects fans with the essence of Filipino live music.

Building on the enduring spirit of the local gig scene, Filipino events production company Minsan Studio continues the tradition of its newly minted series, โ€œMinsan Gig sa Skydome,โ€ this May 2026 for two consecutive nights with a diverse, cross-generational lineup. Titled โ€œMinsan Maingayโ€ (Sometimes Loud) on May 8 and โ€œMinsan Malumanayโ€ (Sometimes Calm) on May 9, the two-part show promises contrasting but complementary live sonic experiences, anchored in three main key points: accessibility, nostalgia, and community.

The โ€œMinsan Gigs Skydomeโ€ series was conceived by key figures in the local music scene, including Monty Macalino of Mayonnaise and Jugs Jugueta of the Itchyworms, both ardent collaborators of the production outfit, with a clear objective to reintroduce audiences to the simple, unadulterated joy of watching live gigs again. Drawing inspiration from the resurgence of nostalgia-driven culture, the initiative was adopted by its founder, Jason Conananto reunite artists and audiences of the Route 196 era, while reimagining the experience within the confines of an accessible and inclusive setting.

Veering away from the usual concert formats, โ€œMinsan Gig sa Skydomeโ€ takes a more relaxed, free-flowing approach. Attendees are encouraged to engage with the event on their terms, whether by watching full sets, stepping out for a break, bringing food, or simply enjoying the space at their own pace. Its bias toward familiarity and ease mirrors the organic nature of the gig culture it seeks to foster and revive.

According to Conanan, the series of gigs is also guided by Minsan Studioโ€™s commitment to accessibility, both in ticket pricing and venue selection. By staging performances at SM Skydome, perched atop the countryโ€™s most prominent mall in Northern Metro Manila, the organizers aim to reach audiences who may not typically visit established gig venues such as bars and smaller music spaces. The addition of air-conditioned comfort, optional seating, and flexible viewing arrangements also expands the appeal, catering to both long-time gig-goers and new listeners alike.

The May edition includes two thoughtfully curated lineups:

    May 8: โ€œMinsan Maingayโ€

A high-energy event featuring rock-driven and distortion-heavy acts (with the exception of one act) like Sandwich, Mayonnaise, NOBITA, Setsuna, One Click Straight, Chicosci, and Fragments.

    May 9: โ€œMinsan Malumanayโ€

A more subdued but still fun night, showcasing indie and alternative acts such as The Ridleys, Minaw, The Bloomfields, Jensen & The Flips, Soapdish, El Manu, and Amiel Sol. The show also features a stand-up comedy set by James Caraan.

Both nights embody the evolving identity of the โ€œMinsan Sa Skydomeโ€ series not as a conventional concert experience, but as an open, communal space for audience connection. As Conanan puts it, โ€œHindi ito concert. Gig lang. Enjoy lang.โ€

For tickets and inquiries, follow Minsan Studiosโ€™ official channels for updates.

    Meet the Artists

    Dashboard Confessional

Fronted by Chris Carrabba, Dashboard Confessional became one of the defining voices of the emo movement in the early 2000s. Known for deeply personal lyrics and emotionally charged performances, the band built a devoted global following with iconic hits like Vindicated, Stolen, and Hands Downโ€”capturing heartbreak, hope, and everything in between.

    The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

With explosive energy and emotionally driven anthems, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus carved their place in punk rock history. Their breakout hitsโ€”including Face Down, Your Guardian Angel, and False Pretenseโ€”became staples of the mid-2000s alternative scene, resonating with fans through powerful melodies and lyrics about resilience, love, and standing your ground.

    Faber Drive

Blending pop-rock hooks with emo heart, Faber Drive quickly became a fan favorite with catchy choruses and relatable storytelling. Their infectious hitsโ€”including Tongue Tied, When Iโ€™m With You, and Candy Storeโ€”defined their signature sound and earned them a loyal following worldwide.

    Why You Should Go
