Summer is for Slamming: The Pulp Summer Slam 14 line up

As the mercury rises in the Philippines, metal fans reach a fever pitch in anticipation of the fourteenth installment of Pulp Summer Slam on April 26 at the Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City, Metro Manila. The biggest, baddest, and most durable of all metal fests in Southeast Asia, Pulp Summer Slam has hosted a bevy of international acts and embraced battalions of metal fans year after year.

For 2014, Pulp Summer Slam unleashes two members of metal royalty from the United Kingdom as main attractions. Asking Alexandria kicks off the British invasion after headlining successful European and North American tours with their ground-breaking and critically-acclaimed brand of metal.

    “The Final Episode”

Like Asking Alexandria, Welsh metal masters Bullet For My Valentine stomps their feet for the first time in Philippine shores, making the country the first stop in their conquest of this side of Asia. Fans could be treated to new material from the band, as they are reportedly set to record a new album this year.

Thanks to Pulp Live World, die-hard fans welcomed them to Manila for the fourth time.

It has been seven years since the band released their debut album A Lesson in Romantics, a record that’s considered to be their breakout album from whence a song called Jersey gave Mayday Parade worldwide attention.

Super Junior successfully ended their one-night Super Show 5 world tour concert on October 24th with a full crowd at Mall of Asia Arena. SS5 Manila  marked the return of member Heechul, who served in the South Korea military for two years. Absentees Yesung and Leeteuk are still fulfilling their military duties though fans also await their return for the next installment of Super Show.

    SS5 Live in Manila

The MOA Arena pulsated with unbarred excitement as Everlasting Friends(also known as ELFs) filled the venue toting their homemade made banners, shirts, ballers and other SuJu items. The humongous stage setup weaving around different sections of the audience was merely a preview of the phenomenal show that was to be expected. Another One for the Books – Bazooka Rocks II

    bazooka-rocks-2-a-rocket-to-the-moon-1

As typhoons hit the Metro, one after the other, there is no mistaking the hurricane that swept us all away – Bazooka Rocks 2013. On its second wave, the music festival was a surefire hit that left its attendees with the aching nostalgic experience dubbed as post concert depression. Twelve bands in fourteen hours; who wouldn’t want to keep replaying those memories in their heads?

The vibe throughout the festival was palpable: thousands of bodies swarming around the venue, their voices thrumming against the background music, waiting for their favorite acts to come on stage. And when they did, the energy that pulsated in the crowd was undeniable.

The halls of the SMX convention center had come to life. Numerous tents bordered the venue – food kiosks, a photo booth station, phone charging areas, San Miguel stalls giving out free flavored beer, and carnival-like booths — pop the balloon, neon face paint, rent a plush animal ride, and the giant inflatable slide. Lee Jeans Philippines even had their own nook at the venue, hosting a lounge area for fans and a balcony section for VIP guests. The booth that held the most attention was, of course, the merchandise booth, where fans could meet and greet their favorite band during intermission.

PhilConcerts Q&A: A Rocket To The Moon

    a-rocket-to-the-moon

Manila fans had their hearts broken by the news of A Rocket To The Moon calling it quits several months ago. As a final hurrah, Pulp Live World brought them to Manila for a farewell set at one of the biggest music fests of the year, Bazooka Rocks II. PhilippineConcerts.com got a chance to have a little Q&A with the band’s drummer, Andrew Cook on BRF, the breakup, and the next big adventure:

    1. It’s been a few years since you were first here for LIV5 at the Ayala Malls. How do you guys feel about returning for Bazooka Rocks II and sharing the stage with so many of your fellow bands?

We are thrilled. It’s always fun to play with friends like All Time Low. The fans here are the best so we’re happy to be back.

    2. Pulp has strung together an amazing lineup of bands for tonight’s music fest. Which band’s set are you most excited for?

Probably Anberlin. Their drummer is really fun to watch.

    3. It’s quite a bittersweet experience for your Manila fans, mixing the excitement of seeing you again at Bazooka Rocks and the sadness of it being a farewell set. What is your message to all the fans who are coming to see you today?

Our message is quite simply thank you. Having a fanbase like the one we have here is something we’ve never dreamed of having. We are still in awe of the support here.

ON THE END OF AN ERA

    1. Fans everywhere were heartbroken by the news of ARTTM wrapping up a solid seven years of music together. What would you say is the main reason you decided it was time to bring this chapter of your lives to a close?

We just needed a chance to step away and clear our heads. Things didn’t go so well with this last record and it basically took the wind out of our sails.

    2. Over the years, you’ve seen the world and played countless shows. Looking back, if you each had to pick one moment that was the most memorable or meaningful to you, what would it be?

Last night when we walked onstage for the meet and great at Mall of Asia. I still have goosebumps from it.
