From Endings to Beginnings: SB19 concludes EP Trilogy with Simula at Wakas

The 7-track EP reflects SB19โ€™s complex humanity and evolving artistry, while dealing with the constant pressures of fame, identity, and public opinion.

Celebrating a journey marked by shared experience, invaluable wisdom, and artistic growth, SB19 returns with the release of their third EP, Simula at Wakasโ€”out on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. Their highly anticipated body of work captures the bandโ€™s evolution as artists and individuals, honoring the past while stepping boldly into the future.

    SB19

โ€œItโ€™s our way of saying thank you and showing how much weโ€™ve evolved,โ€ the P-Pop kings share in an official statement. โ€œSimula at Wakas encapsulates everything weโ€™ve been through: the struggles, the growth, the milestones. We hope it speaks not only to those whoโ€™ve been with us from the start but also welcomes new listeners into our world.โ€

As the final installment in a trilogy that began with 2021โ€™s pagsibol and 2023โ€™s PAGTATAG!, Simula at Wakas chronicles the Filipino pop groupโ€™s artistic and personal transformation while signaling a bold, forward-looking direction. The EP explores the universal themes of closure and renewal, portraying the life of an artist as they navigate fame, pressure, and identity. The band further shared personal anecdotes and reflections on their journey to Simula at Wakas in the This is SB19 playlist on Spotify.

The P-Pop trailblazers explain, โ€œItโ€™s both a celebration of our journey so far and a declaration of whatโ€™s to come. Weโ€™re the same group as when we started. It’s just that weโ€™ve matured, evolved, and grown into artists who are more confident in our voice and purpose.โ€

Simula at Wakas showcases the DAM hitmakers’ captivating and universally relatable sound, all while remaining true to their values as human beings. From emotionally resonant lyrics to innovative, genre-bending soundscapes, the EP offers a meaningful experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
The 7-track release is written and produced by SB19 with their trusted pool of international and local collaborators, including Xerxes Bakker, Alawn, August Rigo, Simon Servida, and Josue (RADKIDZ). The EP features the full creative involvement of all five members. SB19 admits that they took a hands-on approach in shaping every aspect of the project and were very deliberate in contributing not just musically but also creativelyโ€”from the narrative of each track to its visual interpretation, from the choreography to music videos.

โ€œWe held meetings almost every day to carefully discuss how each song would come together, from conceptualizing and message to planning how we could execute and promote the EP in ways weโ€™ve never done before,โ€ SB19 explains. โ€œThis is the first time after how many years that every member has been this hands-on. Everyone was involved in conceptualizing, producing, and writing the songs. But we also owe a lot to our collaborators who helped us push our ideas further and elevate the project on both the technical and creative sides.โ€

The envelope-pushing EP cements their position as one of the vital forces behind contemporary pop music in the Philippines and Southeast Asia for the last decade, providing a riveting insight into less explored paths and a thrilling outlook for future developments. Simula at Wakas contains 7 songs, including the now-viral single โ€œDAMโ€ and the focus tracks โ€œDUNGKA!โ€ and โ€œTime.โ€ The latter will be released with a music video at 12 noon.

The anthemic ballad โ€œTimeโ€ essays the inevitability of timeโ€™s passingโ€”an undeniable and unavoidable reality. As the lyrics go, โ€œOne day weโ€™ll run out of time,โ€ the song reveals a sobering reminder of lifeโ€™s impermanence, yet one that inspires purpose and presence. โ€œHindi naman kami forever SB19,โ€ acknowledges the five-piece act. โ€œNothing is permanent in this world, even from where we are at this point. Time will run out soon. All we can do is try our best and make the most out it.โ€

โ€œDUNGKA!,โ€ another focus track, vaults SB19 back to their experimental phase: evangelizing pop music in unrecognizably exciting form and embracing maximalist production with rave and hyper-pop elements. Itโ€™s easily one of the biggest surprises of the EP, standing its ground as both a sonic rebel and revelation.

To complement the EPโ€™s release, SB19 introduces the DAM Tree, an immersive public art installation, now open to the public in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) until May 4, 2025. As part of the promotional campaign, fans can experience the world of Simula at Wakas through hanging parabolic sound domes where Aโ€™TIN first heard exclusive track previews from the EP. Beyond the immersive listening experience, visitors also get the chance to win exciting prizes, quickly becoming a hotspot for fan frenzy.

โ€œA tree, by nature, reflects lifeโ€™s different stages, starting from a seed, growing roots, eventually branching out and bearing,โ€ the group explains. โ€œThat aligns with the message of DAM and the EP as a whole: acknowledging where we began, embracing how weโ€™ve evolved, and looking ahead to whatโ€™s next. The DAM Tree is not just a design; itโ€™s an experience. We wanted people to feel connected to the music in a more immersive way. Itโ€™s our way of turning the emotions behind Simula at Wakas into something you can actually see and feel.โ€

Further solidifying this milestone, SB19 will kick off the โ€˜Simula at Wakasโ€™ World Tour with two landmark concerts at the iconic Philippine Arena on May 31, 2025, and June 1, 2025, with the first one already sold out. The tour will span across major cities in Taiwan, the United States, Canada, Singapore, and the Middle East from June to October this year, with additional stops in Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong to be announced.

โ€œWeโ€™ve been working on new arrangements for some of our songs, and weโ€™re really excited for fans to hear them,โ€ the group shares. โ€œWeโ€™ll be performing tracks from our latest EP, Simula at Wakas, and we canโ€™t wait to share the energy and emotion behind each song. Every performance has been thoughtfully prepared, and weโ€™re really looking forward to seeing how our fans react to these new versions of our music. Each day will be a different experience!โ€

Wednesday Season 2: Netflix Unleashes a Darker, Spookier Addams Adventure

Hello, Wednesday fans! Netflix has released some interesting details about Wednesday Season 2, including confirmed release dates and a spooky teaser trailer. Let’s explore the eerie, quirky elements specifically for you as we know you enjoy a great mystery as much as Wednesday herself!

Wednesday Season 2 will be a two-parter, consisting of 4 episodes each part, with part one launching on Aug. 6 and the second part coming on Sep. 3.

The first official teaser trailer for Wednesday Season 2 is finally here; it is everything you would have hoped for: murder, anarchy, and the iconic Addams Family attitude. Because Jenna Ortega travels with brass knuckles and swords, the trailer opens with her Wednesday Addams taking an armory of weapons and torture devices from her backpack at airport security. Her famous phrase, “I do my best work in the dark,” sets the tone for a season certain to be bolder and creepier than any other.

Wednesday Season 2 sounds to be the ideal Netflix binge. While the two-part release allows you plenty of opportunity to think about the new mysteries with fellow fans, the dark humor and gothic look of the trailer will satiate your need for something wonderfully twisted. Furthermore, the vision of the show seems clearer than ever with Tim Burton back directing and Ortega assuming a more major creative role.

Wednesday. (L to R) Joonas Suotamo as Lurch, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Isaac Ordonez aศ™ Pugsley Addams, Thing, Luis Guzmaฬn as Gomez Addams in episode 201 of Wednesday. Cr. Helen Sloan/Netflix ยฉ 2025

You’ll see glimpse of returning favorites like Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) getting a horrific toy made of human hair and Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) noticing Wednesday’s unusual eagerness to get back to Nevermore Academy. Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), imprisoned in an asylum, also creates a dramatic moment suggesting unresolved conflict from Season 1. Populating the mix with new faces like Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort and Joanna Lumley as Grandmama, they add fresh mystery. Perfect for your passion of all things dark and exciting, the teaser hints a slasher-inspired mood with plenty of horror themes.

We know you will eat every moment of Wednesday Season 2, which is likely to be a darker and creepier. August 6 is not far enough since the teaser already makes us shills and promises more secrets. So pick your black lipstick, summon your inner Addams, and get ready to haunt Nevermore Academy once more.

  • Love, Sessionista โ€” A homecoming for both the artists and their fans.

Love, Sessionista โ€” A homecoming for both the artists and their fans.

Take us back to 2009โ€”when Sundays meant rest for most of us, tuning in to ASAP, waiting for Sesionistas, a segment that brought us closer to our favorite songs, from covers to originals, back then. The reunion concert, held at The Theatre at Solaire in Paraรฑaque City, was a heartfelt and nostalgic celebration of music, friendship, and the enduring legacy of the ASAP Sessionistas. The group, featuring Ice Seguerra, Nyoy Volante, Sitti, Duncan Ramos, Princess Velasco, Kean Cipriano, and Juris, delivered a powerful and heartfelt performance that resonated deeply with fans since 2009. This is a concert that Filipinos should experience.

The concert opened with a high-energy Queen medley, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, and We Are the Champions, setting a vibrant tone. The setlist featured timeless OPM classics and iconic Sessionistas original hits, like โ€œTattooed on my mind,โ€ โ€œA little bit,โ€ โ€œPara lang saโ€™yo,โ€ โ€œRainbow,โ€ โ€œSomeday,โ€ โ€œMagbalik,โ€ and Princessโ€™s take on โ€œBad Romance.โ€

Remember when Sesionistas read letters from their fans requesting a song during their segment at ASAP? They had it on stage with The Dear Sessionistas. Ice and Nyoy sang Survivorโ€™s โ€œThe Search Is Overโ€ for a letter sender who met her โ€œthe one,โ€ ending her long search. Duncan and Sitti sang Totoโ€™s โ€œIโ€™ll Be Over Youโ€ for a fan who was left behind, while Princess, Juris, and Kian sang โ€œShe Will Be Lovedโ€ for a fan who penned a beautiful kind of love story. This interactive element highlighted their connection with fans, recreating the intimacy of their ASAP performances.

The group also featured unreleased original songs, reflecting their individual journeys and artistic evolution. Showcasing their growth and versatility, they performed โ€œLihim,โ€ โ€œThe Right One,โ€ โ€œHayaan,โ€ โ€œI Wasnโ€™t Ready Yet,โ€ โ€œTitingin Tingin,โ€ โ€œMalinaw na Malabo,โ€ โ€œThe End of the Line,โ€ and โ€œShelter of the Broken.โ€

The Out of the Box segment surprised audiences with genre-bending performances, showcasing the groupโ€™s versatility as they experimented with styles outside their comfort zones, performing Blackstreetโ€™s โ€œNo Diggity,โ€ Nicki Minajโ€™s super pop “Super Bass,” and Eminemโ€™s โ€œLose Yourself,โ€ which garnered applause from the audience. Not only did they do this unexpected genre, but they also paid homage to P-Pop by performing SB19โ€™s โ€œGentoโ€ and BINIโ€™s โ€œSalamin.โ€

From highs of genre-bending segments to emotional highlightsโ€”when Juris went on piano to perform โ€œDi Lang Ikaw,โ€ Juris paved the way for emotionally charged ballads that explore internal struggle, heartbreak, and the desire for freedom, even while acknowledging the shared pain and complexities of being in a relationship. She then welcomed Ice, where he performed his classic โ€œPagdating ng Panahon.โ€ The technical issue in the middle of the song made it more beautiful, as the audience could be heard singing with him in A cappella. It was momentous, heartfelt, and just so beautiful.

The Sessionistas at Home offered an intimate glimpse into their lives as parents, partners, and friends, with family montages and heartfelt dedications that added a personal touch. With Mom Sitti, Juris performed Sarah McLachlanโ€™s โ€œLittle B,โ€ while the dad [Nyoy, Kean, Ice, and Duncan] performed Fleetwood Macโ€™s โ€œLandslide.โ€

The concert was as much a celebration of the Sessionistasโ€™ friendship as it was their music. Their banter, humor, and camaraderie shone through, making the audience feel like they were watching a group of lifelong friends. Sitti noted that the concert felt like a โ€œreunion with everyone in the audience,โ€ emphasizing the shared nostalgia. Nyoy Volante praised Kean Ciprianoโ€™s professionalism, revealing that Kean performed despite losing his mother days before the April 4 show, a testament to the groupโ€™s dedication. Ice Seguerra, who also produced the concert alongside Liza Diรฑo-Seguerra, emphasized the groupโ€™s bond, stating, โ€œMore than the singing, itโ€™s the friendship na nabuo namin on and off stage.โ€

The group’s energy captivated the audience, inspiring many to sing along, cry, or smile, resulting in a reciprocal emotional exchange. Produced by Fire and Ice Entertainment and Fire and Ice LIVE, the concert was well-organized, with creative direction by Liza Diรฑo-Seguerra. The Theatre at Solaire provided a fitting venue for the groupโ€™s grand reunion. We felt that the whole nation needed to see the growth, bond, and love we saw through their well-crafted, tailor-fit, perfectly timed performances that truly tugged at the heartstrings. They capped the night with performances of โ€œFor Good,โ€ โ€œFix You,โ€ โ€œAin’t No Mountain,โ€ and an encore of The Rembrandts โ€œI’ll Be There for Youโ€ from the hit series F.R.I.E.N.D.S.!

Love, Sessionistas was a triumphant reunion that lived up to its billing as a โ€œlove letter to fans.โ€ The concert blended nostalgia with fresh elements, balancing iconic OPM hits, personal stories, and new music to create an unforgettable experience. Their chemistry, honed over years of friendship, made the show feel like an intimate gathering despite the grand venue. Fans left with a renewed appreciation for the groupโ€™s legacy and their ability to evoke joy, tears, and connection through music. For those who attended, it was indeed like coming home.

The night was about to end, NCT Wish performed their final songs, โ€˜Tears Are Fallingโ€™ and โ€˜Make Shineโ€™.

During their ment, Sakuya also mentioned that it was their first time visiting the country and they were really nervous but the loud cheers of the Filo-Czennies gave them energy and confidence throughout the show. As for the Leader Sion, he promise to work hard to improve and make up for their shortcomings. He added โ€œManila is the best gift!โ€ The members then bid their goodbyes, thanking the fans for an incredible night and promising to return to Manila in the future.

  • Urbandub x Typecast 25th Anniversary Concert: A Euphoric Emo Dive to the Past

Urbandub x Typecast 25th Anniversary Concert: A Euphoric Emo Dive to the Past

When two forces of nature in the Filipino rock scene come together, something epic is bound to happen. On April 6, Urbandub and Typecast celebrated their 25th anniversary in the music industry by holding a major concert at the New Frontier Theater, Quezon City. This marked the first stop of their national tour. For four hours straight, longtime fans of the bands got the total throwback experience with that emo-rock twist โ€“ euphoric and cathartic at the same time.

Known as two of the best rock bands that entered the scene in the early 2000s, Urbandub and Typecast have collated a staggering number of hits that had become staple soundtracks to a whole subculture of millennialsโ€™ growing pains. At the height of the emo wave that permeated the airwaves back then, these two bands firmly stood on top, capturing audiences with their melodic blend of alternative, emo and pop-punk, and cathartically honest lyrics.

Presented by Numinous Philippines and directed by Paolo Valenciano, the show was a grand showcase of Urbandubโ€™s and Typecastโ€™s extensive discographies, and an even grander concert experience for fans that had supported them for more than 20 years.

The Urbandub x Typecast collaboration was a natural fit. The members of each band shared a lot in common โ€“ age, range of experience, musical taste and their chosen genre. They all started out as underground artists in their hometowns โ€“ Urbandub in Cebu while Typecast in Laguna. They started playing music when they were young, and they all struggled to uproot their lives to move to Metro Manila in pursuit of their careers.

Of course, it was also natural that they drew in a similar crowd of people. Twenty or so years ago, these people were the teenagers and young adults who had often identified as outcasts or introverts, commonly branded as โ€œemo kidsโ€. In 2025, now in their 30s and up, they have grown into functional adults. Just for this concert, they showed up in full force at the standing pit and the balcony area on a Sunday night, ready to risk it all even when the impending Monday blues were set to take over.

The stage at the New Frontier Theater had two sets of instruments โ€“ one on the left, another on the right. Before the show, the playlist, which included songs by The Used, Silverstein and Taking Back Sunday, was such familiar tracks; some people in the crowd could not help but sing along.

Punctuality was well-respected during the show. It was at exactly 7:50PM when the spotlights dimmed, the stage turned red, and the ten-minute countdown flashed on the huge horizontal screen on stage.

Urbandub x Typecast 25th Anniversary Concert was like watching a gradual fireworks display, with a story slowly unfolding in its four-hour duration. It was divided into two parts for each band. The 1st part, which lasted for a full hour, felt like flickers of light, bursting here and there. This was when they highlighted their B-sides and deep cuts; songs they donโ€™t usually play in their gigs, and some songs that hold immense significance to them. For the crowd, every song then felt like a steady influx of memories of how each bandโ€™s music had grown over the past 25 years.

The 2nd part brought a full-blast grandiose barrage of fireworks, as if each track set off a plethora of crackles, chrysanthemums and brocades, one after another. These were the songs that made an indelible imprint in the audienceโ€™s lives, the same ones that they could sing along to by heart even without much thought.

    1ST SET!

URBANDUB was the first to take the stage as they blasted off with โ€œFace in the Woodsโ€ from their 2009 album The Apparition followed by โ€œWould You Goโ€ from their 2001 debut album Birth. Their 3rd album Embrace received a special treatment when the band consecutively played โ€œReveal the Remedyโ€, โ€œSafety in Numbersโ€ and โ€œA City of Sleeping Heartsโ€.

Composed of Gabby Alipe (vocals, guitar), John Dinopol (lead guitar), Lalay Lim-Geronimo (bass), Russell Manaloto (guitar) and Sam Saludsong (drums), the Cebuano band had established an instant connection with the audience that evening. Even though a few tracks initially seemed unfamiliar, the crowd absorbed the music by quietly bobbing their heads, and swaying their bodies; mobile phones comfortably tucked away.

However, things turned frantic when Urbandub played their well-loved hits โ€œCebuanaโ€ and โ€œA New Tattooโ€. It was like the whole place took on a different life as the crowd sang along in unison.

Gabby Alipe took the time to thank the crowd for their support. โ€œFor a brief moment, you guys were able to resonate with it (music), and it made us last for 25 years, so thank you so much for that. We appreciate it. Weโ€™re still playing because of you guysโ€ฆ Itโ€™s still fun,โ€ he said.

He also expressed his appreciation for many established local bands that helped them when they were starting out, specifically Sandwich, Queso, Greyhoundz, Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, and of course, their โ€˜batchmatesโ€™ Typecast.

TYPECAST started off strong with โ€œReverendโ€™s Daughterโ€ and โ€œSympathy Is Never Considered Helpโ€, tracks from their 2011 album How Your Influence Betrays You. The band, made up of Steve Badiola (vocals), Chi Resurreccion (bass), Pakoy Fletchero (guitar) and Sep Roรฑo (drums), is known for their hard-hitting layered riffs and downright melancholic lyricism. Their music is influenced by a mixture of pop-punk, post-hardcore and alternative, but they are often just classified as โ€œemoโ€, the label sticking to them like glue ever since.

For the 1st set, they also gave ample focus to their debut album with the tracks โ€œEscape the Hurtโ€, โ€œAssertionโ€ and โ€œ21 and Countingโ€. They also played โ€œPhoenixโ€ which was part of the OST titled Rok On! for the popular MMORPG Ragnarok Online.

โ€œSinong emo dito dati?โ€ Steve Badiola took a humorous jab at the current โ€œemoโ€ state of affairs. A lot of the people from the audience unabashedly raised their hands. โ€œEmo dati, ngayon panot na,โ€ he quipped. The whole theater laughed, with a few resounding โ€œouchโ€ from the male members of the crowd. On a more serious note, he then proceeded to thank the crowd for being part of their journey, and asked them to think of the concert as a celebration of their 25th birthday.

Typecast also played their latest song titled โ€œSlightโ€ which was noticeably heavier than their usual repertoire. They closed with โ€œCeilingโ€ which, as Steve shared, was a song inspired by a dark story a friend shared which he refused to elaborate.

    โ€”

    2ND SET

If the 1st set brought out flickers, the 2nd set brought out what felt like a grand pyrotechnics display, in full blast and full spectrum of colors. It was the time for their greatest songs, and definitely the perfect time for the audience to become a whole symphony, karaoke style.

The experience of standing amidst that particular concert crowd that evening was beyond exhilarating. It was as if the masses of people, many of whom are strangers, became kindred souls that enjoyed the music of the two bands as much as they could. They were singing, jumping around, raising their arms โ€“ it was incredible!

Anyone who was there that night could also attest to each bandโ€™s sonic chemistry โ€“ their synchronicity, the mastery of their craft, the ingenuity of their rearranged tracks โ€“ which made for a really satisfying concert experience.

URBANDUB dished out their unequivocal greats like โ€œSoul Searchingโ€, โ€œEvidenceโ€, โ€œFrailtyโ€ and โ€œGuillotineโ€. They particularly dedicated โ€œNever Will I Forgetโ€ to their loyal fans whom they fondly call โ€œDubistasโ€.

Storming loudly after was TYPECAST with โ€œThe Boston Dramaโ€ and โ€œBright Eyesโ€. Surprisingly, even then, their discography had a lot of hidden gems. Compared to listening to their recorded tracks on streaming sites, their live performance that evening solidified their prowess as rock musicians. They also played more tracks from their debut album, including the title track โ€œThe Infatuation Is Always Thereโ€, โ€œClutchingโ€, โ€œAnother Minute Until Tenโ€ and โ€œLast Timeโ€. The

Steve Badiola offered the track โ€œPerfect Postureโ€ to people who are currently going through hardships. As they played it, the high that everyone felt suddenly turned solemn. The song paints a vivid picture of depression, but it goes on to encourage the listener to keep going: โ€œSo keep a perfect posture / Leave them all confused / Never ever show the rope / Weโ€™ve been down this road beforeโ€. This underlying message of support, which a lot of their songs contain, is one of the reasons they have become endeared to many of their fans across the years.

For each bandโ€™s finale, itโ€™s almost a no-brainer that Urbandub went with โ€œFirst of Summerโ€ while Typecast with โ€œWill You Ever Learnโ€, the anthem of anthems amongst all their songs.

The crowd, especially the standing patrons, might have been thoroughly exhausted after all the hours of standing, but they powered through until the show finished, and surely, the payoff was worth it. As an extra special bonus, Urbandub and Typecast joined forces for an encore performance that reinvigorated all the emo kids: Taking Back Sundayโ€™s โ€œMakeDamnSureโ€ and Deftonesโ€™ โ€œBe Quiet and Driveโ€.

Whether you were part of the Emo Kid Society back then or you were a casual listener of both bands, the concert will do you a lot of good. The combination of the 2 bandsโ€™ music made for one hell of a cathartic sonic experience. Do yourself a favor, and get those tickets.

Urbandub and Typecast are set to bring their 25th Anniversary Tour across the Philippines. They will be in Baguio on April 12. More dates are slated to be announced soon.

    Special thanks to Numinous Philippines!
