The wait to see South Korean actor Hyun Bin in the Philippines may be over for fans of the actor as telecommunications giant Smart Communications, Inc. names him its newest brand ambassador.
The past days saw the Crash Landing On You star take over social media with the release of “Simple. Smart ako.” campaign — the first campaign of the telecom giant to feature a South Korean actor.
Given his huge fan base in the country, having won hearts since the romantic-comedy hit My Name Is Kim Sam Soon and having fans fall head-over-heels for him in the recent phenomenal Korean drama Crash Landing On You, it is no longer surprising that local brands will tap him.
“It was natural for us. It would have been crazy for us not to do it,” said Smart senior vice president Jane Basas also in a digital press conference on June 1 (Rappler). Basas also added that signing Hyun Bin on board was a “priceless investment”.
The TVC and ads rolled out earlier this week are just appetizers for what is yet to come as a second commercial starring Hyun Bin will also be released. Merchandise featuring the actor, including a life-sized standee, will also come out starting June 7.
In addition to the exciting ads, commercial, and merchandise, Hyun Bin’s yearlong contract with Smart includes one Philippine visit with three events. No definite date has been set as of press time.
Hurry Home’ is the new single from alt-pop star No Rome featuring fellow Filipino artists Beabadoobee and Jay Som. An uplifting and laid-back track, it is yet another testament to the 22 year old’s talent as a writer, producer, performer and is the second track – following last year’s ‘Trust 3000 feat. Dijon’ – from a series of collaborations, with more to be released over the coming months. (more…)
The members of South Korea’s well-loved variety show, Running Man, head to Manila this April!
As if we didn’t just wrap up an explosive year of euphoric K-Pop events, 2023 is shaping up to be an even greater year for all Filipino Hallyu fans. Get ready as one of the highly-requested shows of the decade is finally about to happen in the Philippines for the first time ever!
Prepare to be filled with thrill and excitement as PULP Live World brings in another world-class act to celebrate a decade and more of producing the best K-events the country has seen. The cast of the longest-running variety show on SBS Channel, Running Man, is heading to the Philippines for a grand fanmeeting – RUNNING MAN: A DECADE OF LAUGHTER 2023 IN MANILA will take place on April 1, 2023, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
More than ten years since its pilot episode on July 2010 on SBS, the Sunday variety show Running Man has successfully conquered South Korean television with its outstanding comedic acts and games that would bring viewers to different spots across Korea and other countries. It started out as an “urban action variety,” a TV genre with physical and mental games that take place in an urban environment. Immediately after, it became famous for its various games which are replicated by fans of the show worldwide. But aside from that, it was really their Name-Tag Ripping Challenge that has become their signature game, having been highly anticipated in each episode and getting viewers on the edge of their seats out of excitement.
The show is headlined by the cast members: Korea’s renowned MC Yu Jae Suk, comedian Jee Suk Jin, singer and actor Kim Jong Kook, actress Song Ji Hyo, singer and MC Haha, MC Yang Se Chan, and actress Jeon So Min. Their individuality and different quirks add flavor to the show which most viewers love. With their funny banter and almost-slapstick comedy style, the viewers can easily relate to their humor.
More than a decade since Running Man first aired on TV, and now with more than 600 episodes, the show has proven itself timeless through the years. The show’s games previously highlighted Korean Culture and Tourism. However, it has also incorporated global culture and inspiration into its format. With episodes that were inspired by Hollywood films and ones that feature the cast touring across Asia (for fan meetings and also filming challenges inspired by the country they are in), Running Man can now be considered a global TV phenomenon that encapsulates worldwide cultures and showcasing them in one grand variety show.
More than that, the show has victoriously garnered recognitions from numerous award-giving bodies as 2019 StarHub Favorite Variety Show and Best Entertainment Program at the 51st Baeksang Arts Awards, and Best Teamwork Award at the 12th SBS Entertainment Awards to name a few—all made possible by the efforts of each staff behind it and as well as the members of the cast.
Now, to celebrate a decade of bringing happiness and laughter to fans through their TV sets, Running Man will be coming to Manila to finally meet their Filipino Fans. This is undoubtedly a show that every Hallyu fan should look forward to. Don’t miss this chance to meet the Running Man cast and run to the Mall of Asia Arena on April 1, 2023, at 6 p.m. for the RUNNING MAN ‘A DECADE OF LAUGHTER’ TOUR IN MANILA. This show is proudly brought to you by PULP Live World.
Tickets are available at SM Tickets outlets nationwide and online via www.smtickets.com. Further ticketing and show details will be announced soon. Please stay tuned on our social media accounts, PULP Live World on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and visit our website www.pulp.ph
Hailee Steinfeld was able to catch up with media friends from the Philippines and some fans to talk about her latest single “I Love You’s” and how she’s coping up during the quarantine, on Wednesday, April 22nd.
Steinfeld is known for performing “Flashlight” with the Barden Bellas in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and has starred in various films such as Bumblebee, Edge of Seventeen, and comedy series Dickinson. It was then followed by her debut single, “Love Myself” and a series of singles, such as “Starving” which placed the 12th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
When asked how what is filming her music video, she shared, “It was a lot of fun. I love making music videos, I sort of feel like that was when my two worlds kind of collide, and when it comes to making the music video of I Love You’s, we had a version of the video that didn’t’ turn out the way we want it to – so when it came to doing it the second time, I figured I would throw my hat it and make it happen and execute my vision the best as I could and I did it with the help of Sarah McColgan, and we were on the same page since day 1.”
According to her, the song is sort of being in confined space and losing sight of who she was. “It’s realizing that time alone and time for myself is what I needed and that wasn’t such a bad thing. I think the idea of being alone can be daunting or not necessarily desirable for some people and I was in a certain situation where that was the last thing I wanted but I knew it’s what I needed. I think right now a lot of us are in confined spaces, some of us are handling it better than others, while some others are going crazy,” she added.
She also shared that she has a lot of free time to reflect and focus on herself. She has been trying lots of different things, from learning a bunch of music equipment and spending most of her time in her home studio.
During the interview, Steinfeld cited that she wants to collaborate with Ed Sheeran if she were to create a song about encouragement.
She also can’t wait for this to be over and meet all her adoring fans. Special thanks to MCA Music for including Philippine Concerts on the group meeting with Hailee Steinfeld.

It’s no easy feat for teenagers to be seen as having achieved beyond their years, yet NCT Dream showed why they have rapidly risen to the top. As the youngest unit of supergroup NCT took command of the New Frontier Theater on February 29 for the NCT Dream Tour “The Dream Show”, they presented themselves as the group that sings of the hopes and dreams of their peers, in a variety of genres that showcase their growth from boys to young men.
Known to the fandom as Dreamies, NCT Dream took the fans on a musical adventure delivering bubblegum teeny boppers from their debut days to their recent edgier tracks.
The concert, presented by SM Entertainment and promoted by PULP Live World, was the group’s second time visiting the country, having first met Filipino NCTzens during the 2019 K-Pop Friendship Concert. The boys mentioned that the energy they were welcomed with during their previous visit made them excited to come back for a solo concert and spend more time with fans.
Dreamies exhibited power as they opened with “Go”, the song that signaled their transition from young and cute to grown-up. The track illustrated how the group overcame stereotypes and redefined what it means to be young, encouraging teens to live outside the box and embrace their individuality. It was then followed by even more impactful performances such as “Drippin’” and “119”.
Even as they have grown into the cool adolescents they are today, the members still made Seasonies (NCT’s nickname for fans) fawn over them like older siblings especially when they gave messages in Filipino, saying “Sobrang miss ko kayo” (Jeno), “Higit na nagmamahal kay Seasonie” (Jaemin), “Magandang araw sa isa’t-isa” (Jisung) and “Sobrang masaya ako dahil nakita ko ang Manila Seasonies” (Chenle).
Concerned about everyone’s safety, Haechan cutely asked the fans near the stage to “Take a small step back please!” Renjun paid special attention to the fans on the second floor and always made sure that they had a great time.
It was impossible to get over the charming gestures the boys made as they performed their debut song “Chewing Gum”. The group took the K-Pop community by storm in 2016 when they were introduced as having an average age of 16, emphasized in their initially youthful and vibrant concepts. They then treated the fans with high-spirited performances of “Dunk Shot” and “Dream Run”.
Dressed in white and gray and looking like gentlemen, the six members yet again showed another side of them. A piano was set-up for a heartwarming string of tracks. Chenle wowed with his own arrangement written as a prelude to “Best Friend”. The group continued to serenade the crowd with “Walk You Home” and “Candle Light”.
NCT Dream lifted the atmosphere with songs reminiscent of carefree summer: “We Young”, “My First and Last”, “My Page” and “Bye My First”. They ran around and chased each other in circles while interacting with the fans.
As the end of the concert inevitably approached, fans expressed their sadness by chanting “Walang uuwi!” The members asked Seasonies to give all their energy for the last set of performances and make the most out of the afternoon. Extending the same energy as the fans did, they performed their special releases “DNYL (Don’t Need Your Love)”, which is a collab with English singer HRVY, and “Fireflies” and “Trigger the Fever”, official songs of The World Scout Foundation and FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea 2017, respectively. The boys capped this energetic set with the recently-released “Boom”.
The concert ended on an intimate note as the group sang “La La Love” and “Beautiful Time”, celebrating the wonderful memories NCT Dream and Filipino NCTzens have made together throughout the concert. With a promise to come back, the members expressed their gratitude to everyone who came and bid their goodbyes. Hoping for another fateful meeting, the group and the fans, led by Haechan, parted ways as they sang “우리 다시 만나자” (Let’s meet again).
The NCT Dream Tour “The Dream Show” in Manila was presented by SM Entertainment and promoted by PULP Live World. Philippine Concerts extends its gratitude to PULP Live World for the invitation to the event.

Here’s the tea: NCT DREAM is a talented group made up adorable sweethearts that melt our hearts and make them go boom, boom, boom.
As NCT DREAM TOUR “THE DREAM SHOW” comes near, with only a week before it happens at the New Frontier Theater on February 29, we list down seven — of the many things — we love about NCT’s third sub-unit in this feature article.
NCT DREAM is composed of incredibly amazing individuals — Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung plus former member Mark — who also have the best personalities. We love how they complement one another and bring out the best in each other.
Although they have displayed their seeming limitless capabilities in the past four years, the boys are far from done as they continue to show their improved skills and their willingness to explore more and go out of their comfort zones.
#2 The Music
We love how their music has grown since their debut in 2016 with “Chewing Gum” — that fresh adorable sound that got us LSS — to their most recent release “Boom” which is giving us all the tita feels as we beam with pride on the glow up that is NCT DREAM.
They have successfully switched up their music, not locking themselves in one genre. Moreover, they have also expanded their reach through collaborations with other artists including HRVY and Prettymuch. And NCT DREAM is full of promise that we are 100 percent sure that there is so much more to tap from these incredibly talented boys who also work hard to improve their crafts.
#3 The Charms, The Charisma, and The Talents
When you got Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung in one team, expect that the group will overflow with charms, charisma, and talents. They have astounded us with their vocals, raps, and dancing through their every release, have made us go soft with their charms, and made us speechless on how they shed their cuteness and fire up the stage with their charisma.
NCT DREAM is full of surprises, owing to the fact that each member has something to offer on the table and they are willing to give more. Remember Jeno’s effort to learn acrobatics for NCTzens? Or how Jisung impressed everyone during his Dancing High stint? Or how can we forget the iconic hoverboards they used during their “Chewing Gum” era?
#4 The Concepts
Because we have already talked about hoverboards, we jump right into the different concepts they did in the past four years. The “Chewing Gum” era gave us schoolboy Dreamies, blowing large bubbles with cheeky grins that transport us back to our school days where nothing matters but school, friends, and that puppy love. This adorable concept was reignited in “My First and Last” which reminded us of our first love. The first two eras were appropriate and highlighted the natural charms of the boys — their youth and childlikeness.
Because NCT DREAM started off cute and young, the next concepts, where they showed off — little by little — a more mature feel, did not feel off because we saw the transition happen. “We Young” was upbeat, bright, colorful, and summery. It was still cute, but did not give the same childlike-feel “Chewing Gum” and “My First and Last” gave, owing probably to the moves and expressions of the boys that were cooler than cheeky.
And now we talk about “Go”, a track from the NCT 2018 Empathy, that was a big leap from the fun beats we got with the first three title tracks. NCT DREAM gave us angsty teenagers ready to take over. Then, they treated us to another bop, “We Go Up”, Mark’s final release as a member of NCT DREAM. They have reiterated their cool teen energy in this era which they intensified in “Boom”, their first era without Mark.
#5 The Performances
We need no words for this one because we are going to let these NCT DREAM videos speak for it.
https://youtu.be/gE__xeCFrVQ
#6 The Visuals
They attacked us with their cuteness during their debut era and now, Dreamies are hitting us hard right in the feels with their superb visuals.
We don’t know what words will best describe the beauty that are Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung so make sure to check their social media channels and marvel with us on the top-class looks the boys have been serving.
#7 The Bond
We are knocking on SM Entertainment’s door to please disregard the initial plan of rotational concept and just let our Dreamies stay together, please?
Through the years, NCT DREAM (and all NCT members, to be honest) has showed us the close bond they have developed that warms our hearts and melts us. Remember that Idol Room episode where the members revealed that Chenle gives them gifts? Or that time Renjun has had enough of the sasaeng who keeps calling Jeno?
There more sweet moments from the boys and we can’t wait to see more of their closeness and adorable relationship on February 29 at the New Frontier Theater.
So, NCTzens, ready yourselves because your hearts will surely go boom, boom, boom!
