Youngjae Spends a Day with Fans in “Sugar” Mini Concert and Fansign Event

Words and photos by Danica Lacson

    Youngjae day indeed!

South Korean singer-actor and GOT7 member Youngjae gave Philippine Ahgases the best memories last July 23 at the New Frontier Theater as he spends the day with them in back-to-back events.

The GOT7 member met his fans again through his first solo events in the country — 2022 YOUNGJAE MINI CONCERT: ‘SUGAR’ IN MANILA and ‘SUGAR’ FANSIGN IN MANILA. It was a delightful, nostalgic, and unforgettable experience for all attendees as the singer-actor did not hold back in creating special moments with his fans.

The mini concert kicked off with thundering cheers, welcoming Youngjae’s performance of “Tasty” from his first extended play Colors from Ars. The energy inside the New Frontier Theater continued to go up as the GOT7 member followed up “Tasty” with “Focus”, one of the tracks from his newest release, Sugar. He then went to greet his Filipino fans and enthusiastically played the “Guess the Song” and “Yes or No” games with them.

The singer also recounted his experience of eating Jollibee — a recommendation from Filipino Ahgases. According to him, he found it delicious. He also remarked that he enjoyed some leisure time and relaxed, including going for a swim. “The weather was so nice,” he added.

Talking about his radio program, GOT7 Youngjae’s Best Friend, Youngjae, who started hosting the program in March 2022, shared that he considers all episodes memorable. He also gifted fans with a short rendition of “Wait For You” by Elliott Yamin. The singer-actor said he will never forget the lyrics of “Wait For You” as it is a song he had sung a lot of times. In addition, he considers Elliott Yamin an integral part of his artistry as he was an artist that helped him find his color.

Youngjae shared that hearing the cheers of Filipino Ahgases reminded him that the cheers and screams from Filipino fans were really, really loud and crazy. And indeed, the crowd did not hold back in showing their love for the GOT7 member. Louder cheers and applause resonated in the venue when he performed his title tracks “Vibin’” from Colors from Ars and “Sugar” from the album of the same name.

More than the cheers, Filipino Ahgases also gifted Youngjae with a touching video message and banner project. “IGOT7 is always with you,” read the banners raised during the mini concert.

The singer-actor relayed his gratitude to fans and reciprocated the love with performances of “Crema” and GOT7 hits “NANANA” and “Girls Girls Girls”. He even roamed around the venue and interacted with the audience during “Girls Girls Girls”.

Part II: Sugar Fansign in Manila

After the mini concert, lucky fans got the chance for a photo opportunity with Youngjae and participate in the send-off session. But the day was far from over. Following the mini concert, the singer-actor returned for the fansign event where he conversed with fans and granted their requests.

Chosen fans also got the chance for a photo opportunity. Top spenders also took selfies with Youngjae — a memory of a lifetime indeed! The event ended with a goodbye session with fansign attendees.

An eventful day filled with the best memories from the sweetest man, Youngjae! July 23 was truly a day to remember thanks to Ahgases and Youngjae — the last one to leave and the first to come back.

Special thanks to CDM Entertainment for the invitation to the events.

SM Mall of Asia Arena lit up with the brightest lights as the Philippines welcomes back Red Velvet!

South Korean girl group Red Velvet returned to the Philippine concert stage thru the special advocacy concert Be You: The World Will Adjust, joining hands with rising P-Pop stars BGYO, BINI, and Lady Pipay.

Presented by In Purpose International Training Institute, Inc. (IPITI, Inc.), the special advocacy concert held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last July 22 was an extraordinary celebration for people with special needs. Exceptional performances from talented kids and teens with special needs opened the concert, warming the hearts of the thousands of people gathered at the arena. Performers included Janine Lim, Peggy Geiser, Mark Jayson Salamangkit, Danica Escasinas, and kids from TLC SPED & Therapy Center.

Singer Martin Nievera also graced the Be You: The World Will Adjust concert with an inspiring testimonial and performance. Nievera shared how his son Santino who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder changed his life.

Lady Pipay then gave a show-stopping production number, earning loud cheers from the crowd. And the cheers went louder with the much-awaited return of Red Velvet to the Philippine concert stage. Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri fired up the arena with performances of their hit songs “Feel My Rhythm”, “Psycho”, “Hello Sunset”, “Queendom”, and “Red Flavor”.

During the exclusive interview with Red Velvet prior to the concert, the girl group shared their aspiration to inspire and encourage children with special needs to continue performing. On the question as to when Filipino Reveluvs will see them back in Manila for a solo concert, Wendy said, “Hopefully, we will be back for our concert soon.”

Red Velvet first came to the Philippines through joint concerts in 2015 and 2019. The girls relayed their gratitude to the Filipino fans who continuously support them and cheered on them.

Following Red Velvet, P-Pop groups BINI and BGYO took the stage with impressive performances, giving every Filipino a reason to beam with pride. BINI, sans members Aiah and Gwen, performed “Born to Win”, “Na Na Na”, and “Lagi”. BGYO closed the show with performances of their songs “The Light”, “He’s Into Her”, and “Tumitigil and Mundo”.

Indeed, beyond the fun-filled concert and applause-worthy performances, the Be You: The World Will Adjust served as an avenue to come together for a cause and share advocacy to celebrate people with special needs. The concert provided a platform for talented people with special needs to boast about their music and talent and the crowd at the SM Mall of Asia Arena repaid it with the loudest cheers and brightest lights.

Special thanks to In Purpose International Training Institute, Inc. and Be You team.

  • Boys Like Girls to Perform Live in Cebu in October

Boys Like Girls to Perform Live in Cebu in October

Boys Like Girls will meet you soon, Cebu!

Cebu is in for one incredible rock show. PULP Live World and Skesh Entertainment are excited to bring Boston favorites BOYS LIKE GIRLS to the Philippines after more than a decade! BOYS LIKE GIRLS LIVE IN CEBU has been given a new date given the current global health situation and is on October 12, 2022, at the Sky Hall Seaside Cebu.

It will be a show that’s sure to trigger nostalgia with Martin Johnson (vocals/guitar), Paul DiGiovanni (guitar), John Keefe (drums), and Morgan Dorr (bass) playing their iconic debut album front to back. Released back in 2006, the self-titled Boys Like Girls carried songs that served as the soundtrack to the coming of age of a distinct generation of pop-punk/pop rock fans. It was an album that allowed the band to break through the music scene, with hits like “Hero/Heroine,” “The Great Escape,” and “Thunder” spending weeks on Billboard charts.

As iconic as the band was at the time just for this album alone, this debut release was soon followed in 2009 by Love Drunk, with more anthems for fans to sing along to like the title track “Love Drunk,” “She’s Got A Boyfriend Now,” “Heart Heart Heartbreak,” and “Two Is Better Than One” featuring Taylor Swift.

It comes as no surprise that, in the latter part of 2019 following years of inactivity, fans were ecstatic upon hearing the news that Boys Like Girls would be hitting the road on their first headlining tour in ten years, officially announcing five dates in Australia slated for April 2020. This exciting news followed years of inactivity, with the band’s third and most recent album Crazy World (“Be Your Everything,” Life of the Party,” “The First Time”) coming out way back in 2012.

Boys Like Girls had a short tour in 2016 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album and are now looking to make an extension of that celebration by setting their sights outside of the US, in other corners of the world that they missed to include. Before they head over to Australia for their first tour in a decade, the band is stopping by Asia for their first shows in years.

BOYS LIKE GIRLS LIVE IN CEBU happens on October 12, 2022, at the Sky Hall Seaside Cebu. This show is powered by PULP Live World and Skesh Entertainment. Gates open at 6:00 PM and we rock and roll by 8:00 PM. For tickets purchased last February, they will still be honored on the new show date. For those who would like to opt for a refund, you may contact SM Tickets for further assistance. Tickets will still be available at SM Tickets outlets nationwide and online (www.smtickets.com). Prices are as follows: VIP – P3,500; General Admission – P2,500. Ticketing charges apply.

Following the release of his latest single, “Heaven”, Scott broke news of his biggest headlining Asia tour to date. Calum Scott’s “BRIDGES” Asia Tour,

Says Calum, “It feels so incredible to announce my Asia tour! It’s been a long time coming and a lot of planning but after the last few years we’ve had, you can just tell how excited people are for live music again and I’m so happy to be a part of it. I am coming back with my band to play the songs that people discovered me on, as well as new songs from my second album which I would say is my best and most personal work yet – I can’t wait to see you there.”

Calum has announced that his highly awaited sophomore album Bridges will arrive on June 17. The fourth single released from Bridges, “Heaven” once again reveals Calum’s gift for finding unexpected ways to express universal emotions. “As songwriters, we’re always searching for new ways of saying ‘I miss you’ or ‘I love you’ or ‘I want you back,’” says Calum, who co-wrote “Heaven” with Hayley Warner(an Australian singer/songwriter who’s also penned songs for artists like Katy Perry and Tori Kelly). “‘The concept of ‘Heaven’ is the love between two people being so powerful that it is far superior to anything else, any other form of paradise that could be offered. I loved the idea of putting the power into the relationship.”

The follow-up to Calum’s 2018 full-length debut Only Human—a widely acclaimed effort that hit No. 1 on the iTunes album chart in 21 countries across the globe, in addition to selling more than 3.6 million in adjusted album sales and garnering over 7.5 billion combined streams —Bridges will also feature the previously released singles “If You Ever Change Your Mind”(a bittersweet but empowered piece produced by Greg Kurstin, an eight-time GRAMMY Award® winner known for his work with Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Adele), “Rise”(a wildly soaring track whose video features a captivating performance from British actor Georgia Hirst), and “Biblical”(a heart-on-sleeve ballad Calum later followed with an American Sign Language version made in collaboration with the Tony Award®-winning Deaf West Theatre).
