Acclaimed Broadway singer and actress Lea Salonga will be the featured guest artist on the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s tour to the Philippines. This is the second stop on the Choir’s world tour of “Hope” and the first visit by the Choir to the Philippines.
Lea Salonga is a multiple award-winning actor and singer renowned across the world for her powerful voice and perfect pitch. She is best known for her Tony Award–winning role in Miss Saigon. In addition to the Tony, she has won the Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theatre World Awards in the field of musical theatre.
Given the positive experience she had when she joined The Tabernacle Choir for the first time, Lea Salonga stated in a media conference that was held at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay City that it was an easy decision for her to say yes to joining the choir for a second time.
“It was memorable not only from a musical standpoint, but I just remembered feeling, ‘this is something I’ll never, ever forget,” Lea said.
On February 27 and 28, at 8 p.m., the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila will host the free event.
In addition to Lea, another Filipina singer-songwriter named Ysabelle Cuevas will be performing alongside the choir.
Many fans of all ages recognize Lea as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II. Lea served as a judge on the Philippines hit version of “The Voice,” including the ratings juggernaut “The Voice Kids.” An avid techie and gamer, Lea divides her time between Manila, Philippines, with her family and the United States.
Under the direction of Mack Wilberg, music director of the Choir, and Ryan Murphy, associate music director, the “Hope” concerts will be held February 20–29 and feature Salonga and the Choir performing a repertoire that reflects, in part, the musicality of the country. Filipinos are a nation of singing people whose choral tradition started centuries ago with indigenous origins and has continued until today. Internationally, the Philippines has one of the highest viewerships of Music & the Spoken Word.
Wilberg said he looking forward to working with her again. “It was a delight to have Lea Salonga share her extraordinary talents at our Christmas concert last year in Salt Lake City. It is an honor for the Choir to go to Lea’s home country to perform with her again and experience the kindness of the Filippino people,” he said.
In addition to Lea as a guest artist, Ysabelle Cuevas, a celebrated singer-songwriter from the Philippines will also be joining the Choir in their performances. In 2018, Ysabelle’s original song “Daunted,” released through Warner Music Philippines, marked a significant milestone in her career, resonating with fans across East Asia and North America. Her passion for cultural connections extends beyond her original work. Ysabelle has gained worldwide acclaim for her covers, winning music contests and earning features in major publications. Her adept translations of Korean songs into Filipino and English demonstrate her unique ability to merge diverse musical traditions and appeal to a global audience.
Finally, the Choir will also be joined by husband and wife duo, Paolo Abrera and Suzie Entrata-Abrera who will act as narrators during the performances. Suzie and Paolo are both tv personalities and news anchors who are well known in the Philippines.
Over the next four years, the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra will travel twice a year to different parts of the world. Choir president Michael O. Leavitt said, “Our goal is to magnify the Choir’s impact throughout the world by helping people feel God’s love for His children. Our performances will be free. Many will be live streamed so local congregations in the regions we visit can invite their friends and communities to participate.”

The lead stars join regional press, content creators, and Filipino fans for the premiere of Netflix’s latest live-action series.
Gordon Cormier and Dallas Liu, the young actors from the highly-anticipatedAVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER series, landed in Manila for the press conference and premiere of the live-action adaptation. The duo received a warm Manila welcome as they spent a jam-packed day of activities with regional press and influencers from the country, as well as other delegates from the APAC region, to promote Netflix’s latest live-action offering.
During the press conference held at Marquis Events Place in BGC, Filipino-Canadian star Gordon had three words to describe the life-changing moment when he discovered that he booked the iconic role: ‘Tears. Crying. Happiness.’ Gordon, who plays Aang, expressed that he felt like he “grew” with his character and noted how easy it was for him to portray the more “happy” side of the young Avatar: “When we first shot the series, I was 11 years old, so I feel like I’ve grown up quite a bit. The happy side of Aang is quite easy for me because… you know. I think you could tell,” he added with a laugh, referring to his innate happy demeanor. “It was more difficult for me to tap into Aang’s emotional side.”

Speaking about their experiences in breathing new life into the adored characters, Dallas, who plays Prince Zuko, shared, “I really had to tap into the negativity of Prince Zuko and what he’s going through. There are different points in my life that I have to pull from specifically that I think worked well for specific scenes.” Dallas also mentioned that each cast member was able to “ground” their characters and bring them to life in a way that feels familiar: “I’m really excited for you guys to see it. I know you guys are stoked for it,” he added, alluding to the extensive fight scenes within the series.

Admitting that they bonded and got close while shooting the show, Dallas, the older of the two breakout stars, closes the press conference with advice and a wish for Gordon: “To have a strong base in your heart is extremely important. I hope the people supporting you at home keep your chin up and give you strong words of affirmation and continue to champion you through your journey.”
Following the press conference, the duo headed to Central Square to check out the AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER activity zones at the cinema area, and made a surprise appearance during the fan screening to the delight of the lucky fans.

The main version of “Saturn” was written and produced by SZA, Carter Lang, Rob Bisel, Solomonophonic, and Monsune.

The “Accidents” band will be performing a long set featuring fan favorites and rarities. Joining CHEATS are some of their long-time music peers, including SOS, Oh, Flamingo! and Sandwich.
“We wanted to do a show that has a ‘party like it’s the mid-2010s’ vibe, which is the reason why we chose Sandwich, SOS, and Oh, Flamingo! to share the stage with us,” the eclectic 7-piece act explains in a press statement. “They were among the bands we loved (and still do) and played a lot with back when the band was just starting. We’ll all play lengthy sets, and while we haven’t come up with a set list yet, we’ll likely play as many of our favorite songs as possible from the last 10 years.”
The intimate gathering also doubles as a launch for the band’s special limited-edition merchandise, particularly the classic CHEATS logo shirt with new colorways, re-released for those who haven’t had the chance to get one or want to collect them all.
CHEATS also expressed gratitude to the fans who have continuously supported their work all these years. “Thanks to everyone who has supported the band, whether you’ve been there since the early days or just discovered us fairly recently. Filipino singer-songwriter Patricia Heart is ready to captivate the mainstream audience with her authenticity and musical talent. The CamSur-based recording artist has recently signed with Sony Music Entertainment, the home to an all-star roster of OPM acts such as Ben&Ben, SB19, Clara Benin, Ace Banzuelo, Denise Julia, O Side Mafia, Demi, and dwta—to name a few.
Apart from being the newest addition to the growing family of the international record label, the promising newcomer sets her sights on representing her hometown on the global stage while showcasing her individuality through music.
Her debut single “Kahit Di Ako ang Gusto Mo” hints at an even brighter future as Patricia Heart defies expectations with her unique brand of charisma and songwriting chops. Buoyed by a suspenseful intro of synthesized strings and dramatic instrumentation, the soulful ballad reveals her experience as a young woman trapped in a toxic relationship, struggling to find light at the end of the tunnel.
Patricia Heart explains, “This song was written after losing one’s self to an obsessive, toxic relationship and eventually realizing the need to walk away from it to reclaim my sense of self-love. I have been in this kind of situation before. But you know: it takes two to tango, so no matter how badly we want to keep that relationship, if the other person is not as invested as you or you keep on sacrificing your worth as a person, it will never be saved.”
The emotional single showcases Patricia Heart’s confessional songwriting style, infusing even more unfiltered woundedness into her sonically rich sound. Showcasing drama and, to an extent, dark humor to the mix, the budding pop/alternative talent marks her debut with an earworm that will surely gain traction among listeners of all ages, who can relate to her earnestness as a singer-songwriter.
“There’s so much that I can offer as an artist, and I hope the general public will love Kahit Di Ako ang Gusto Mo,” Patricia Heart shares. “It’s a song that comes from a place of hopelessness and trauma, but it’s also a cautionary tale that encourages the listener to never put other people’s feelings above your own, especially when you’re constantly losing your person in the process.”
“Kahit Di Ako ang Gusto Mo” will be part of her upcoming debut EP, Songs of Siren, to be released soon. The highly anticipated release will contain five songs and is “poised to cast a spell on listeners once they hear the siren sing.”
Patricia Heart’s “Kahit Di Ako ang Gusto Mo” is now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
The heartfelt tune marks the second time the two artists have worked together on a project—the first being a reworked version of the streaming hit “Lihim”.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter dwta teams up with chart-topping newcomer Arthur Miguel on “Tahan Na,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment.
Capturing the universal experience of longing for love and connection, “Tahan Na” expresses the realities of harboring unrequited feelings for someone not capable of reciprocating the same level of affection.
According to the Bicolano recording star, the heartfelt track illustrates the beauty of not giving up hope for love despite being constantly let down by circumstances.
She adds, “Tahan Na tells us to acknowledge our feelings of longing and heartache but also to remember that our value isn’t based on someone else’s feelings. In the end, it’s a song about staying strong, not giving up, and believing in the transformative power of love.”
The stripped-down, alt-country song was written by dwta in 2022. It has gone through multiple iterations since then, with Brian Lotho co-producing the tune with the young singer-songwriter under one condition: capture the immediacy and emotional vulnerability of the moment when the latter first conceived the material in her bedroom. Nothing more, nothing less.
dwta or Jhasmine Villanueva in real life, explains, “To recreate that cozy vibe, we recorded the acoustic guitar while sitting on the floor, mirroring the casual and intimate setting of my bedroom, where I often find inspiration. We wanted the song to feel like a comforting hug for anyone who listens to it. At first, we weren’t sure if we should make it sound like a lullaby or a grand melancholic dance within a castle. But then we thought, why not blend both elements? So, we incorporated strings like the violin, reminiscent of a grand ballroom, while still maintaining the gentle strums of the acoustic guitar and the soft melodies of the keyboard, blending them to create something special.”
“Tahan Na” marks the second time that dwta and Arthur Miguel have worked together on a project. The two accomplished solo artists linked up last year on the reworked version of “Lihim,” which blends Tagalog and Bicolano with captivating results.
Villanueva emphasized that working with Arthur Miguel has always been a remarkable experience. Having great connections and chemistry in writing, collaborating, and performing songs as a duo, dwta is grateful to the budding crossover act for allowing her to experiment with different musical elements and expand her skills as a songwriter and performer.
“I realized that his singing style and emotions would add a lot to the song’s meaning and make it even more heartfelt,” dwta muses. “Our collaboration has opened up new opportunities for growth and exploration in our music. Working with Arthur Miguel is enjoyable for me, and every time we work together, there’s always something new to learn, some adventure, and lots of fun moments.”
dwta and Arthur Miguel’s “Tahan Na” is now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
Save the date: February 22 is the day the world finally gets to see the much awaited Netflix live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. As one of the world’s most loved animated series, many fans have long wished for a remake that would give the series the love and the justice it deserves. Lucky for them, 2024 is finally their time. Be sure to put it in your watchlist and binge it ASAP.
Released in Nickelodeon in 2005, the animated series captured the imagination and hearts of kids and young adults all over the world. As the story begins in the iconic introduction at the start of every episode:
“Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.”
Aang (Gordon Cormier), who is ordained as the Avatar, goes on a journey around the world with his friend from the Water Tribe – Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio) – to master the four elements in an effort to bring peace to a world suffering from war. On their tail was the headstrong Prince Zuko from the conquering Fire Nation who was on a mission to capture Aang in a bid to please his father, the power-hungry Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim).
Philippine Concerts got to be part of the press conference and advanced screening ahead of the show’s premiere on Netflix. This much, you need to know: It’s going to be a hit. They got the very important details right. We’re already super excited to see the whole thing.
A day before the premiere, Gordon Cormier and Dallas Liu flew to the Philippines to meet with the members of the press. While the duo are sworn enemies in the world of Avatar, they are nothing but best buds in person.
Read on for a quick, spoiler-free rundown on the highlights of the day.
How is their visit in Manila?
Gordon, who is half-Filipino, described coming to the Philippines as a homecoming. “It has been amazing! I’m back in my homeland,” he said excitedly. He had not been able to visit the country during the pandemic and he was very glad to come back to see his family here.
On the other hand, it was Dallas’ first time here. “It has been really exciting! Everyone has been welcoming,” he answered. Surprised by the intense heat outside, he joked that it felt like being in the Fire Nation. In our brief time with him, we discover that Dallas, quite unlike Zuko, is a very affable guy in person, and just full of wit.
Who among the cast is most similar to the character they play in the show?
With a confident smile, Gordon immediately answered, “No bias or anything: definitely me”. Embodying Aang’s bright and pure disposition, he always spoke candidly, his words coming out with utmost sincerity. He was only 11 years old when they shot the series, and while that was a challenge, he felt like he had grown up quite a bit.
Dallas didn’t choose himself. “Zuko has gone through a significant amount of trauma, and that’s very hard to relate to, so there are different points in my life that I have to pull from specifically,” he explained. Instead, he chose Ian Ousley (Sokka) and Kiawentiio (Katara), the inseparable Water Tribe siblings. Like Sokka, Ian is a protective older brother for Kiawentiio and Gordon. Dallas is close friends with Ian and is his confidante. Dallas said that Kiawentiio also has Katara’s older sister vibe – she is caring and she keeps her fellow cast members in check.
What was it like when you received the news that you got the role?
“Tears. Crying. Happiness,” Gordon described what he felt when he was casted.
At that time, Netflix executives asked him to come to a ‘getting to know you’ interview where they told him that they searched the world to find the Avatar, and that they found him and that he lived 15 minutes away from the studio. Unable to understand the hints they laid out, Gordon thought he was initially rejected. It took him a while to piece out the details, but once he did, he was so happy, he cried. While he did not know anything about Avatar: The Last Airbender back then (since he wasn’t even born yet), he studied up shortly after, watching the series close to 35 times over the course of the shooting.
During the auditions, the actors were given fake scripts with codenames, something which is usually done for high-profile projects. Dallas was initially told that he was auditioning for “Juno”, a boy who was desperately seeking his father’s approval. At first, Dallas was told by his manager that he had competition for the role he was vying for. “He is really handsome, and he’s such a talented actor, and he’s a better martial artist than you.” Later on, they tell him that he got the role and that it was actually for Prince Zuko, which came as no surprise to Dallas who was familiar with the animated series before.
Just like the original series, camaraderie and friendship play a pivotal role in the story, and the actors also have definitely held this up. “You can see our relationship grow throughout the series,” Gordon mentioned. He also told us about the time he, Ian and Kiawentiio were told to wait 15 minutes for their take in one scene, they were lying on top of Appa (their furry flying bison friend), and they just stayed there talking and sleeping midway without noticing that more than 30 minutes had passed. Gordon felt that they were like friends, like family even.
Dallas also added, “Nobody really does impersonations of these animated characters. Each person (actor) brings them to life in a way that still feels very familiar, but you get to see real human beings interact with these elements and these creatures and this world. I’m really excited for you guys to see it, especially the fight scenes.”
Both actors were tight-lipped about spoilers, causing them to give vague answers to some questions. We can tell you this much, though: this new incarnation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is a must-watch for old fans and new fans alike. The 1st episode captured the essence of what made the animated series great: it has the drama, the suspense and the heart – It will be sure to reel you in immediately. We’re already excited to binge the series once it comes out!
“SIKcret Time” in Manila organized by MQLIVE in partnership with P&STUDIO and TONZ chose the international child rights organization as its official beneficiary.
It was one for the books as fans of Korean star Park Hyungsik trooped to the Smart Araneta Coliseum last February 17, 2024, to watch his “SIKcret Time” in Manila Asia Tour Fan Meet organized by MQLIVE in partnership with P&STUDIO and TONZ.
As a post-Valentine’s treat, Park Hyungsik and the promoters not only delivered one of the best and most organized fan meets in recent history; in order to show their immense love for the actor, his legions of fans made the event more meaningful and impactful by choosing to donate to an organization known for its support of children’s rights as their official “fan project.”
“Save the Children Philippines expresses its sincerest gratitude to Park Hyungsik, along with his fans, the organizers, promoters, and sponsors of “SIKcret Time” in Manila for choosing our organization as the official beneficiary of the event,” said George De La Rama, Director of Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Media of Save the Children Philippines.
“This is the first fan project to ever actively support Filipino children in need and for that we are forever thankful.”
De La Rama recalls that in his long history of watching Korean concerts, fan meets, and events since 2006, this is the first time he encountered a famous Hallyu actor who willingly offered his support to help Filipino children most impacted by inequality and discrimination.
A DREAM COME TRUE Born with a vision impairment, Eshell Rose Duyan was one of the thousands of attendees of “SIKcret Time” in Manila. She is a member of Future Vision Home in the City of Taguig – one of the 12 organizations of persons with disabilities that Save the Children supports through rights-based development and child participation.
“For me, the highlight was meeting Park Hyungsik in person. He inspired me when he told his story that he wanted to be a police officer when he was young, but fate eventually led him to become a famous actor instead. I dream of becoming a model or flight attendant, but I know that with mycondition, it may be impossible. However, like Hyungsik oppa, I want to believe that God will provide what’s best for me,” said Eshell, 20.

Multi-instrumentalist and singer Abby Clutario invites listeners on a journey with love with the release of her album “Lambing” under AltG Records on February 23.
“’Lambing,’ for me, is a genuine feeling of love. If you look in the dictionary, it doesn’t have a direct meaning in English. It’s a Filipino word na puwede natin gawing pamparamdam na nagmamahal tayo sa isang tao. I want it to be more than just an album but a journey for the listeners. Each song tells a story and explores a different aspect of love,” shares Abby.
The album features five tracks, two original songs, and three covers, which delve into the depths of love and emotion.
Among the original tracks on the album are “Laho” and “Naglalambing,” which showcase Abby’s songwriting prowess and her ability to craft melodies that listeners can relate to. The album also includes Abby’s cover of “Tadhana” by Up Dharma Down, Voltes V theme song “Chichi Wo Motomete,” and Mulawin’s theme song “Ikaw Lang.”
“’Laho’ holds a special place in my heart. It’s a song that speaks about the fear of expressing one’s feelings and the longing for connection. ‘Naglalambing,’ on the other hand is inspired by the 90s OPM. We wanted to have a song na parang kumikiliti doon sa OPM flavor. It’s a typical story that tackled the feelings na puwede mong maramdaman kapag bigla mong naalala ang ex mo,” she says.
Abby is also set to have an album tour for “Lambing” starting with the launch gig this February 22 at 88 Fryer. Guest performers include Plume, Pido, and Charlene Ong, among others. The tour continues on March 2 at 70s Bistro. On March 12, Abby will be at 19 East, and the tour wraps up on March 22 at Tago Jazz Bar.
Stay tuned for Abby Clutario’s album “Lambing” set to release this February 23 on digital platforms worldwide.
