  • The bonggang cast of Bongga Ka, ‘Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical

The bonggang cast of Bongga Ka, ‘Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical

It takes a bongga cast to stage a bongga musical. Newport World Resorts, in association with VIVA Communications and The Philippine STAR, has unveiled the cast of Bongga Ka, ‘Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical, assembling some of today’s most exciting theater performers and rising stars.

While the actress who will portray the title character Annie Batungbakal remains under wraps, audiences can now meet the colorful personalities who inhabit the worlds of House of Pasion and Coco Banana in the musical. Between House of Pasion, where Annie works as a dispatsadora or sales clerk while dreaming of becoming a designer, and Coco Banana, the
famed Malate disco where creatives and socialites gather, unfolds a story of ambition, friendship, love, and self-discovery set to the soundtrack of the Manila Sound era.

Among the first names announced are the show’s leading men. Sam Concepcion, Jeff.Moses, and Anthony Rosaldo, will alternate as Romer Pasion, the worldly flight attendant and heir to House of Pasion. Joining them is KD Estrada as Burn, the folk rock musician determined to make a name for himself through original music.

The House of Pasion itself is anchored by Aurora Pasion, alternately played by Jackie Lou Blanco and Ring Antonio. In her 50s, Aurora is an old-school yet influential fashion designer whose signature clothing line defines the house she built.

Annie’s personal world includes Suzy Batungbakal, played by Air Paz-Pablico, her modista mother and former Aurora employee who is considering working abroad as an Overseas Contract Worker (OCW). Yani Lopez and Andrea Babierra alternate as Iste Batungbakal, Annie’s younger sister who harbors a crush on Burn. By her side is Toots, played by Gerhard Krysstopher, her loyal gay friend and fellow House of Pasion staff member. Guiding Annie along the way is Amor, portrayed by Akie Cedilla, a street-smart balut vendor whose practical advice often makes her the unintentional voice of wisdom and an occasional cupid.

Adding color to Annie’s journey are the eccentric personalities who populate Coco Banana. John Lapus and Dindo Divinagracia alternate as Tarurit, the larger-than-life proprietor of Coco Banana, and Tito Tambay, a humorously-portrayed neighbor.

Completing the male ensemble are Rapah Manalo (Burn Understudy), Vince Denzel Sarra,
MC Dela Cruz, Franco Ramos, Richardson Yadao, Vyen Villanueva, Gerald Magallanes, Mark Panganoron, Jay Cortez, Moi Gealogo, Yahweh Sangalang, Dan Wesley and male swing Tep Logmao. Joining them are female ensemble members Iya Villanueva (Annie Understudy), Misha Fabian, Chez Cuenca, Abi Sulit, Paui Luzuriaga, Sam Marasigan, Coleen Paz, Mica Fajardo, Mia Bella, Abegail Turiano, Yna Arbiol, and female swing Jannah Baniasia.

  • Manila Symphony Orchestra Centennial Concert III – LIBERATION: 80 Years of Philippine Republic all set on July 4!

Manila Symphony Orchestra Centennial Concert III – LIBERATION: 80 Years of Philippine Republic all set on July 4!

Presented by the Manila Symphony Orchestra Foundation, Inc. and Standard Insurance; co-presented by EastWest Bank and PAGCOR in partnership with Bagong Pilipinas, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and The Metropolitan Theater.

In Pursuit of Excellence CELEBRATION: The MSO Centennial Season Concert III – 80 Years of Filipino-American Friendship.
    July 4, 2026 Saturday – 7:30 PM
    Manila Metropolitan Theater

As part of its Centennial Season, the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) commemorates a landmark event in both Philippine history. Eighty years ago, on July 5, 1946, following the inauguration of the Republic of the Philippines, the MSO presented a Gala Symphony Concert at the Rizal Memorial Stadium as part of the national celebrations marking Philippine independence.

This year’s program brings together works by Filipino and American composers whose music reflects the artistic exchanges and cultural connections that have shaped both nations over the past eight decades.

Opening the evening is former MSO Assistant Conductor Col. Antonino Buenaventura’s prize-winning composition, “Youth”, which received its premiere during the 1946 MSO Gala Symphony Concert. Conducted by the composer himself, the work portrays youth as “the epitome of vigor, energy, and love, standing at the threshold of life’s journey”. “Dedicated to the youth of the land whose faith in democracy and freedom has been kept inviolate even unto the gates of death,” the piece captures the optimism, resilience, and aspirations of a nation emerging from war.

The program continues with Lucio San Pedro’s “Concerto in D Minor” for Violin and Orchestra. Recognized as the first complete violin concerto written by a Filipino composer, the work was composed in 1948 as San Pedro’s final output upon completing his composition studies at the Juilliard School in New York. The concerto reflects the educational exchanges that have connected Filipino and American music while occupying an important place in the development of Philippine classical music. This work will be performed by violinist Jeanne Marquez, a recent graduate of the Juilliard School with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance.

Representing the American tradition are Artie Shaw’s “Concerto for Clarinet”, featuring Jeanne’s older brother, Jason Marquez, a Filipino-American principal clarinetist in Michigan and Texas; and George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture for orchestra”, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. Together, these works showcase the breadth of American music, drawing from jazz, popular music, and the symphonic tradition.

Under the baton of Jose Reyna, Jr., an American Prize-winning Filipino conductor, hailed as the “Filipino Toscanini” (The Manila Bulletin) for his panache and artistry on the podium, this concert celebrates not only 80 years of Filipino-American friendship but also the Manila Symphony Orchestra’s continuing role in marking important moments in the nation’s cultural life.

This celebration will be held at the Manila Metropolitan Theater, a venue associated with the MSO since the theater’s inauguration in 1931. The occasion also serves as a homecoming for the orchestra as it returns to its longtime artistic home and embarks on a partnership with the Metropolitan Theater in the seasons ahead.

Sam Concepcion, KD Estrada, Jeff Moses, and Anthony Rosaldojoin Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical!

The cast of Bongga Ka, ‘Day! The Annie Batungbakal Musical is shaping up to be truly ‘bongga’, kicking with an all-star lineup of today’s most sought-after theater heartthrobs.

Newport World Resorts, in association with VIVA Communications and The Philippine STAR, unveiled Sam Concepcion, KD Estrada, Jeff Moses, and Anthony Rosaldo as the musical’s leading men.

Concepcion takes on the role of Romer, a 27 year-old cosmopolitan, flirty, and self-assured man who knows he’s handsome and worldly. He is a flight attendant who dabbles in photography. Coming from a well-off family, he is the only son of the owner of House of Pasion.

Estrada steps into the character of Burn, a down-to-earth folk-rock singer in his mid 20s. Burn is known for performing cover songs but dreams of making a name for himself through his own original music. Determined to get his big break, he sets out on a journey to achieve his dreams while balancing stability and his passion.

    Sam Concepcion as Romer

Sam Concepcion is one of Philippine entertainment’s most accomplished triple threats. Equally at home on the concert stage, television screen, and theater stage, Concepcion has built a remarkable career spanning over two decades. Theater audiences most recently saw him as the wealthy aristocrat Daniel Beauxhomme in 9 Works Theatrical’s staging of Once on This Island, following his widely praised performance as Popoy in PETA’s blockbuster hit One More Chance The Musical.

    KD Estrada as Burn

KD Estrada, whose growing theater career continues to excite audiences. Estrada comes fresh off a highly celebrated run of Bagets The Musical, where he starred as the well-off, conyo high schooler Arnel. He made his musical theater debut in 2023 in PETA’s award-winning zarzuela-comedy Walang Aray.

    Jeff Moses as Romer

Jeff Moses continues to build momentum as one of the most promising young performers transitioning from television to theater. Best known to many viewers through his appearances in hit television dramas, Moses successfully made his stage debut in Bagets The Musical, where he portrayed the martial arts-loving Topee. His natural charm and strong vocals quickly endeared him to audiences, making him a welcome addition to the world of Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical.

    Anthony Rosaldo as Romer

Anthony Rosaldo, a powerhouse vocalist and former The Clash finalist, has become a familiar face in musical theater through a string of standout performances. In 2024, he starred as Roger Davis in the Manila revival of Jonathan Larson’s Rent. Before that, he made his theatrical debut as Young Hector in the long-running hit musical Ang Huling El Bimbo in 2023.

Together, these four performers bring a wealth of experience, charisma, and musicality to the production. With its leading men now unveiled, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a bongga theatrical experience. More cast members will be revealed soon.

  • SIENNA SPIRO ANNOUNCES “MY HOUSE TOUR”COMING TO MANILA ON 9 JANUARY 2027TICKETS ON-SALE NEXT WEEK!

SIENNA SPIRO ANNOUNCES “MY HOUSE TOUR”COMING TO MANILA ON 9 JANUARY 2027TICKETS ON-SALE NEXT WEEK!

Today, show-stopping London-born singer and songwriter SIENNA SPIRO announces the “My House” tour, including an extensive North American fall run followed by dates in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe. MANILA will be on Saturday, January 9, 2027 at the New Frontier Theater. Presented by Wilbros Live. Ticket pre-sales begin Tuesday, June 16 at 10AM, while general on-sale starts Thursday, June 18 at 10AM via TicketNet.com.ph and TicketNet outlets nationwide.

Said SIENNA, “I truly can’t wait for this tour. This is the biggest I’ve ever done and we’re going to perform in places I’ve never been before! I’m so excited to see you all and sing the songs from Visitor with you.”

Following stateside festival stops including Lollapalooza, Newport Jazz, Outside Lands, All Things Go, and Austin City Limits, SIENNA kicks off The My House Tour on October 13 at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium. She then plays cities including Atlanta, D.C., New York, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver, and more, before wrapping up on November 10 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. She’s also returning to San Francisco’s historic Castro Theatre, where she joined Sam Smith in March for a surprise duet of her hit “Die On This Hill”.The tour news arrives as SIENNA covers the June/July issue of Rolling Stone UK, and follows a series of overseas dates where she debuted a striking yet cozy stage setup including plush curtains, carpeted floors, vintage audio equipment, lamps, and vinyl records — get a glimpse, and preview her unreleased song “My House,”. The spring U.S. leg of that same tour stirred up rave reviews, including from Variety, who dubbed SIENNA “one of the greatest voices of her generation” and Los Angeles Times, who professed that her voice, “might be the most impressive instrument to come out of England since Adele emerged nearly two decades ago.”

Just last week, SIENNA released the official music video for her enthralling single “The Visitor”. Written and produced by SIENNA with Omer Fedi (SZA, Lil Nas X) and Michael Pollack (Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus), the song draws its power from a spellbinding vocal recorded in one take, lyrics that cut to the bone, and a 20-piece string orchestra led and arranged by Academy Award-winner Peter Rotter (OppenheimerThe Last Repair Shop). While SIENNA’s poetry and the video nod to matters of the heart, by the song’s end, we sense that she’s singing about something more: a strong awareness of impermanence — of things ending and people leaving — that can quickly turn into paralyzing fear. That sentiment is the driving force behind the concept that powers Visitor, the album.

Of course, SIENNA is very much here to stay. Her music has amassed over 1.2 billion global streams so far and, in late March, she had a trio of singles climbing the Hot 100 all at once: “The Visitor” (which so far peaked at #43), heartwrenching UK Platinum smash “Die On This Hill” (#19), and the enduring “You Stole The Show” (#55). All three are set to appear on Visitor, which was executive produced by Fedi with additional production from an elite crew including Blake Slatkin, Yakob, and Pollack, plus composers like Larry Gold (Al Green, Silk Sonic) andRotter. SIENNA and her hand-picked collaborators brought her vision to life in an array of legendary spaces like Electric Lady Studios in New York, Abbey Road Studios in London, and Valentine Recording Studios in Los Angeles.

As much as her timeless songcraft, SIENNA’s staggering performances have been central to her rise. She opened 2026 with an unforgettable rendition of “Die On This Hill” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, inspiring a standing ovation and flabbergasting her host. Recently, she capped off a series of stunning UK TV appearances by singing Nat King Cole’s “Nature Boy” for the BBC’s David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth special. Sienna will also make her debut as a featured artist on Season 52 of Austin City Limits, taping July 15.

After entering the year shortlisted for the BRIT Awards’ esteemed Critics’ Choice for 2026 award, 20-year-old SIENNA landed on Forbes’ latest 30 Under 30 list; received two 2026 American Music Award nominations for Best Vocal Performance and Breakthrough Pop Artist; sat down for equally charming and revealing interviews with the likes of ELLE, NYLON, and Interview Magazine; and garnered critical acclaim from Rolling StoneDazedThe New York TimesV MagazineThe Hollywood Reporter, and more. SIENNA also wrote the song “Material Lover” exclusively for The Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack.A DIY-minded artist who first started penning songs when she was 10, SIENNA’s earliest inspirations included Frank Ocean, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, and Amy Winehouse. She began integrating jazz elements into her music while gently leaning toward more contemporary sonic aesthetics on her 2025 debut EP SINK NOW, SWIM LATER. Now, with Visitor on the way, SIENNA shows no sign of slowing down.

  • Rising Star Dwarf Joins KDR Music House Under Daddy A

Rising Star Dwarf Joins KDR Music House Under Daddy A

MANILA, Philippines — Singer-songwriter Dwarf has officially signed with KDR Music House, a significant milestone in his budding career. With Daddy A at the helm Dwarf now steps on a bigger stage with a team dedicated to building his true voice and expanding his reach.

Dwarf is known for his emotional late night vibe, and his music feels deeply personal and nostalgic. He describes his sound as “mystical folk pop” a heartfelt blend of indie pop ballads, dream pop and alternative folk. He is a self-proclaimed “keeper of memories” who transforms simple feelings into songs that hit deep.

Dwarf told of his journey. His love for music was sparked early, singing at age 8, teaching himself guitar at age 11 and writing original songs at age 14. Unlike many young artists who base their work on covers, Dwarf chose to write his own material from the start, creating a truly original artistic voice.

The society doubted him and the struggles of making music as a career were real but Dwarf found validation in his audience. He recalled one powerful moment when, during a live gig, a listener told him that his music helped her through a dark period. “That’s the kind of feedback that makes me do this,” he said, discussing the power of healing and emotional connection his songs create.

Dwarf explained his stage name with humor and humility. His very common legal name (Vincent) and his acceptance of his shortness turned potential liabilities into tokens of distinctiveness. The name is a reflection of his desire to be different and to honor what makes him special.

He is also known for his signature orange sombrero, a playful but memorable part of his stage presence. Dwarf teased taking this into a more mystical, fantasy-influenced aesthetic in the future, pulling from characters like Hobbits, which fits right into his “mystical folk pop” identity.

Dwarf’s new single “Junior’s Night” captures the butterflies, innocence and pure joy of first love and “firsts” in general. The song was written in a flash of inspiration when I woke up at dawn, inspired by nostalgic Facebook memories.

Writing songs for Dwarf is an extremely immersive and vulnerable experience, often likened to method acting. He gets deep into the emotions behind the lyrics and makes each song a real, soulful experience, the opposite of AI-generated music. Melody and lyrics flow out together, according to his mood and spur-of-the-moment inspiration.

Dwarf was thankful and trusting of his new team at KDR Music House. “I feel like I’ve finally found home,” he said. “Now I’ve got a team that believes in me, and helps me get my music out to more people.

Daddy A and the KDR Music House team talked about the cultural fit. They respect Dwarf’s creative freedom, but provide him with the structure and industry guidance to amplify his vision. The label’s collaborative, family-like environment is a perfect fit for Dwarf’s style and long term potential.

Both artist and manager stressed plans for consistent releases, collaborations, and live shows. One of the major development areas is to fine-tune his sound, look and overall presentation to create a unique, personal artistic identity for Dwarf, distinct from influences like December Avenue or Ebe Dancel.

With strong management, a distinctive sound, and an authentic connection to listeners, Dwarf is poised to make his mark in the Philippine music scene. Keep an eye out for “Junior’s Night” and more magical releases from this rising “mystical folk pop” talent.
