Rivermaya: The Reunion on February 17, 2024 at the SMDC Festival Grounds with Bamboo, Mark, Nathan and Rico – finally together in the countryโs most coveted reunion presented by Live Nation Philippines.
Brace yourselves for full-on action in theaters as Barbieโs Ryan Gosling and Oppenheimerโs Emily Blunt join forces in the upcoming action-comedy The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch who previously helmed Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde.
L to R: Ryan Gosling is Colt Seavers and Emily Blunt is Judy Moreno in THE FALL GUY, directed by David Leitch
The jaw-dropping explosive action-comedy movie is a love letter to Hollywoodโs stuntmen and its crew who create magic behind the cameras for an exhilarating experience best seen in cinemas. The Fall Guy stars Gosling as Colt, a stuntman whoโs serviced A-list star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) for years.ย Working anew alongside his ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Blunt) in her directorial sci-fi movie debut where Coltโs stunt expertise is needed. But when the movieโs main star, Tom disappears, Coltโs reel skills gets real when heโs tasked to find the missing actor in order to save Jodyโs film.ย As Colt tracks Tomโs whereabouts, he takes an all-too familiar route for real this time, from dodging bullets to speeding cars in order help Jody bring her vision to the big screen.
Ryan Gosling is Colt Seavers in THE FALL GUY, directed by David Leitch
The movie is a big screen adaptation of the 80s classic action show of the same title that harks back to big Hollywood feels on how movies are made while bringing Gosling and Bluntโs palpable chemistry on screen as ex-lovers, and old sparks start to light in the midst of the setโs explosions.
L to R: Ryan Gosling is Colt Seavers and Emily Blunt is Judy Moreno in THE FALL GUY, directed by David Leitch
Director Leitch knows the genre all too well being a stunt performer in previous movies such as Fight Club, Daredevil, Bourne Ultimatum and Matrix movies, making him the ideal helmer of The Fall Guy. ย Gosling, from his appearance at CinemaCon earlier this year when they showed the filmโs first footage mentioned that โIn most films, the actors get all the credit, but the stunt performers do all the work, and that ends todayโ.

From Universal Pictures, โThe Fall Guyโ will open on February 28, 2024 in Philippine cinemas.
Ito Kashitaro made his Philippine concert debut at the Brooklyn Warehouse in Sampaloc, Manila. The sold-out show was presented by the Japan Foundation Manila, in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. The tickets for the event were free, and the clamor for them was so intense, they got sold out shortly after they were released.
The Japanese singer started out doing covers for anime theme songs on video streaming platforms as early as 2011, but over the years, he has steadily built up his career by creating and writing his own songs. With his distinctly emotive singing style, his poetic yet sincere lyrics, and his trademark kitsune/fox mask, he has earned a sizable following in Japan and overseas.
For those who donโt know him yet, he sang the ending song โVITA PHILOSOPHICA for the recently released anime series My Happy Marriage.
Getting to Know Ito Kashitaro
Philippine Concerts was one of the few media outlets that was part of the interview with Ito Kashitaro during his visit, and we were in for a treat. Although he always wears his fox mask during his live performances and public appearances, he surprisingly faced us without it.
One of the most striking things about him is his sincere manner of speaking. He was assisted by a translator throughout the interview, and he made it a point to speak slowly, making sure that his words would get across well.
He can also be very candid when responding, expressing himself freely, like a friend telling a story. When we asked about the Filipino food he had tried during his visit, he gave quite a long list. โSisig is number 1,โ he immediately exclaimed. He also remembered trying Sinigang, Bistek (beef steak), Pancit, Kaldereta, Paella, and Squid with Gata, noting that they were all delicious. (FYI: he did remember the actual names of most of the dishes. For the few that he didnโt, he described the taste and the ingredients which the translator was kind enough to identify.) To add to that, he had sampled Halo-Halo and said that the serving was bigger than he thought. Even the ever-popular Jollibee was mentioned later on.
As a songwriter, Ito Kashitaro explained he takes inspiration from everything โ all kinds of music and situations. For instance, if he finds a certain injustice in society, he channels his emotions into creating songs. When we asked about his songwriting process, he said he can write the melody and the lyrics at the same time, which is quite frankly a feat for any musician. He usually conceptualizes songs while walking around outside.
Ito isnโt one to play favorites with his song repertoire. He said that once he releases a song to the public, it has his stamp of approval and he likes that particular song just as much as the others in his catalog. โEvery time I perform a song, the experience I get from it is the best. I feel so blessed whenever I sing so I canโt choose between them,โ he explained.
Regarding future collaboration with international artists, he narrated that there had been plans before, but he is not sure when or if they will ever be released. He noted that he would be performing a duet with Armi Millare later that evening, so he cited that as one international collab.
Other trivia: His current favorite manga is March Comes Like a Lion by Chica Umino. If he were to cosplay an anime character, it would be Nobita from Doraemon. Not a trivia, but we got to hear an acapella sample of โArk of Memoriesโ (which sounded amazing, by the way).
The Live Experience
Armi Millare was the opening act for the evening. Previously known as the frontwoman of UDD, she is now paving her way as a solo artist. Her set that night marked her 2nd appearance since she released her new single two days ago. Trading in electronic rumbles for a more hushed and jazzy vibe, her music is now minimalist with delicate streaks that are solemn yet resounding. โSomewhere in Betweenโ and โRootsโ were among her new tracks. As a nostalgic trip for older fans, she played a stripped-down version of โOoโ, โIndakโ and โTadhanaโ. She even impressed the crowd when she played koto, a traditional Japanese string instrument, during her set.
When the lights turned off for Ito Kashitaro, the thrill within the crowd was palpable, with everyone cheering and chanting his name. Everyone was taken by surprise when he made his entrance, donning his trademark kitsune mask. The first lines that came out of his mouth were the lyrics for โGurengeโ which was originally performed by LiSA and easily recognized by the crowd as the 1st opening song of the widely popular anime series Demon Slayer. As if in a karaoke, the audience sang along loudly to it.
The first part of his setlist were tracks from anime theme songs including โSilent Minorityโ (from Trapped in a Dating Sim), โVITA PHILOSOPHICAโ (from My Happy Marriage), โArk of Memoriesโ (from Deca-Dence) and โThe Country in the Sunโ (from Princess of the Bibliophile). Since the beginning, Ito sang with such passion, that the intensity of his voice reverberated throughout the venue.
โI was looking forward to today because Itโs my first time in the Philippines. Being here is something I could only dream about. I want to sing my hardest so that you have a great time,โ he said upon introducing himself to the crowd. Before resuming his set, he chimed in, โFilpino food is very delicious.โ
For the second part of his set, he called on guitarist Yoshinori Shibata to accompany him. The acoustic stage was more intimate as his vocals were more raw. As he performed his songs like โPierrotโ, โThe Starry Night Promiseโ and โLife is All About Goodbyesโ, fans were delighted to sing along, clap and wave their hands on beat.
A strict no photography and videography rule was implemented throughout the concert. For us Filipinos, it might have been unthinkable, but it is common practice in concerts in Japan as part of basic etiquette. Fortunately, the audience members that night were more than happy to cooperate.
Everyone was just appreciating the music and their moment with the artist as it happened, making the concert all the more immersive and memorable. Ito Kashitaroโs passion for singing was equally matched by the crowdโs uproarious and warm energy that was sustained up to the end of the evening.
He also prepared special gifts for his Filipino fans. โI heard that thereโs a song that is cherished in the Philippines,โ he mentioned in the middle of his set. He said he tried to memorize the song and asked everyone to sing along with him to the lines โlachara chara charaโ which was recognized by the audience as SB19โs โMAPAโ. The lyrics were in Filipino and he sang it remarkably well. Later on, as revealed during the interview, he also shared the stage with Armi Millare for his song โLEATHER COVERโ which they both sang flawlessly.
He then performed โShojo Reiโ, and โmagic musicโ and for the encore, โParabola – Galileoโs Dreamโ.
โTonight is one of the best nights of my life! Iโll do my best to return to the Philippines. Please come see me again next time,โ he said in appreciation to the crowd. He repeatedly bowed and joyfully expressed his gratitude to everyone present.
โI believe music transcends language barriers. For todayโs concert, I hope the Filipino audience can overcome that wall, and that we get to enjoy music together,โ Ito Kashitaro said during the press interview when asked about his message to his fans. In more ways than one, he succeeded in doing that. Despite the language barrier, many of his longtime fans were able to sing along with him effortlessly. Even casual attendees were able to have a good time just by experiencing the music live.
Manila saw an exciting comeback as Mew Suppasit, the beloved Thai actor, and singer, returned to the Philippines after three years.
His first visit to Manila in February 2020 set the stage for an unforgettable encore, bringing joy and excitement to his devoted Mewlions. The night started with a lot of excitement as Mew Suppasit, full of enthusiasm, began his fan meet.
As the crowd erupted with cheers, he serenaded his fans with renditions of “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele and “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, igniting the atmosphere at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier. Mew, feeling the overwhelming love from his Filipino fans, responded by making cute signs and gestures, showing his fondness for the crowd. The exchange of finger hearts, heart cheeks, and blowing kisses made the connection between Mew and his fans even stronger.
The event delved deeper into Mew’s personality with the segment “Get to Know Mew,” unveiling his relaxed fashion sense and a knack for dozing off anywhere. He also sang a little bit of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect”, saying he likes listening to this song. Keeping the lively vibe, he happily danced in his seat when SB19’s “Gento” was played, making the audience scream even louder because of his cuteness.
The fun kept going with the game “Pinoy Henyo,” where Mewโs charm shined as he guessed different words, leading to a display of cute and hot poses, much to the delight of his Mewlions.
Mew’s performance of “Spaceman” further elevated the ambiance, setting the stage for the next segment, “Letโs Go on a Trip.” Here, Mew talked about his essential travel items, like sanitizer, a charger for his phone, an umbrella, a notebook, and a cap, giving fans a glimpse into his daily life.
In a delightful twist, Mew indulged in Filipino delicacies, tasting the local delights of banana chips, ensaymada, and the local chocolate, chocnutโ much to the audience’s amusement and delight. The peak of the night came with Mew’s emotional performance of “Season of You,” during which he went up close with his fans, roaming through the Samsung Hall, creating unforgettable moments and memories.
As the fan meet reached its conclusion, a touching VCR tribute from his Mewlions across the globe was played for Mew. His fans also sang ‘With a Smile’ to Mew, which made him say the words “Mahal Kita” to his fans. The event concluded on a sweet note with a cake from his fans and a group photo session as well.
In his farewell, Mew conveyed heartfelt thanks to his fans, acknowledging their unwavering support and love. The announcement from MakeItLive Asia allowing fan-recorded videos during the Hi-touch session brought immense joy and excitement to everyone, making it the perfect end to a remarkable evening.
Not one, not two, but three shows swept the Philippines as Mayday Parade held three concerts in Manila, Cebu, and Davao and made waves of nostalgia and emo music we love the band for.
Mayday Parade successfully completed three shows with a kick-off concert in Manila where they filled up New Frontier Theater on October 27, 2023.
The Tallahassee, Florida-based rock band with members Derek Sanders, Brooks Betts, Alex Garcia, Jeremy Lenzo, and Jake Bundrick healed yet again the inner emo we all needed healing that night, with hits after hits the band has released for their 18 years in the music industry.
Anywhere But Here
The setlist they played was nothing short of what we expected and even more as the band also made sure that they told us what we meant to them over the years.
โI donโt know what we did to deserve you guysโฆ what an incredible feeling,โ vocalist Derek Sanders told the crowd, โI donโt think Iโve ever heard a crowd sing as loud as you guys are singing right now. Thank you so much!โ
The band pointed out as well that it has been 5 years since they touched the Philippine shores, pointing out the pandemic that stopped the world and said, โIt has been way too long since we got here!โ
It has been way too long for a Mayday Parade parade here. To prove their influence and to show off to the world that they still have loyal fans here, the Filipino fans sang over a technical difficulty with the speaker and continued to sing with the band like they were on karaoke and there was no technical turmoil ongoing. The band showed professionalism and didnโt even waver for a second in playing, and the crowd did the same. It was an incredible sight, seeing a musical relationship so solid that no force would interrupt nor stop their bubble of musical exchange.
One of the notable performances of the night was when they slowed down the setlist with Derek Sanders sharing some intimate thoughts he had that he knows the fans can relate to. “I don’t usually talk about my personal life but it’s been difficult for me so this means a lot performing in front of you guys.โ He shared and took the keyboard with their drummer Jake for “Three Cheers for Five Years”, one of their oldest songs. One of the best things about a band that has been playing this long is they are harnessing their energy from a source that is deep within each of the band and the fans have gone through over the years. Thatโs why every song hits hard, even if itโs slowed down and solemn.
โI feel like EMO music is alive in 2023!โ That indeed is true as the ensemble continued to sing through the setlist and delightedly pointed out that the band was formed in October 2005. โThatโs 18 years ago! To be able to still be doing this, traveling to Manila? Thank you guys for the love.
Bands these days do this small peek-a-boo treat for adults where they tease the fans a little bit and โleaveโ and then come back for an โencore.โ Mayday Parade skipped all that. โThis is the part where, maybe we wouldโฆ you walk off stage and if you guys wanted me to come back and do a couple more. But can we just kinda skip that part and hang out and play two more songs for you guys?โ They did and they ended the night on a high with โJerseyโ and โJamie All Overโ which put the band on the map.
โThis has been an unbelievable experience, thank you so much for the love. Thanks for singing so loud, thanks for being in this room with us. Thanks for supporting live music and rock and roll in 2023! Weโre Mayday Parade, we love you all very much. We will come back and see you as soon as we possibly can!โ Derek said last as weโre sure they got that Manila bug that will want them to keep on coming back for more. No other crowd in the world is as dedicated and as loud as we are and judging by the full house crowd for the Mayday Parade that night, it shows that no Mom, EMO music is not just a phase; itโs a part of our lives.

Dew’s charm truly shone during the “Get To Know Dew” game. He revealed the three things he must always bring: his phone, watch, and, of course, his heart. When asked what profession he would pursue if not acting, he admitted being a Cartoon Illustrator. His music preferences were unveiled, including his love for “About You” by The 1975 and the Thai song “First Love.”
Pinoy Henyo Fun
The excitement continued with “Pinoy Henyo,” a game that tested Dew’s quick wit. With words to guess like “Gundam” and “Pad Thai,” the crowd laughed and cheered as Dew tried to guess the words but failed in the end. As a consequence of losing, he did cute poses that all his PH fans loved.
Musical Magic: Sweet Ballad and Ecstasy
Dew’s second song was a sweet ballad that made everyone fall all over again for his charm. This segment was followed by “Melting Because of Dew,” where Dew watched himself as Nai from Homeschool and felt โkiligโ when they played “I DO: A Love Story in Bangkokโ MV right after. The MV featured him and his co-star from GMMTV Tontawan, who he also got to work with in F4 Thailand. Their chemistry was definitely undeniable, drawing cheers from the crowd. The night continued with Dew’s rendition of “My Ecstasy” by Bright, a tribute to his fellow Thai artist, which left fans in euphoria.
Let’s Go on A Trip and Filipino Delights
In “Let’s Go on A Trip,” Dew picked up his essentials for travel while reiterating his affectionate connection with the audience. The “Dew Filipino Foods” segment delighted fans as Dew tasted local treats like Halo-halo, Turon (which he couldn’t get enough of), and Chicharon, with his amusing commentary about adding more sugar glaze to turon.
A Touching Love from Fans and Happy Birthday Greetings
Towards the end, fans presented Dew with a heartfelt VCR expressing their unwavering support. As a surprise, they brought out a cake to celebrate Dew’s upcoming birthday on October 30. The crowd sang a joyous “Happy Birthday,” filling the venue with warmth and love.
Capping Off the Night: “Mahal Ko Kayo Habang Buhay”
Dew’s parting words were filled with eternal love to his fans, saying, “Mahal ko kayo habang buhay,” a promise etched in every fan’s heart, and the night concluded with Dew’s captivating performance of “North Star,” leaving everyone in awe.
Fans then had the opportunity for a hi-touch session and a memorable photo-op, making the night everyone would cherish forever.
As Dew left the stage with promises of buying more Turon, he left behind a room filled with hearts full of love and unforgettable moments, reminding everyone that the North Star shines brightest when heโs closer to his fans.
