  • The Cherry Prince Came Back: EXO’s Chanyeol Makes the Holiday Season Merrier for Philippine EXO-L

The Cherry Prince Came Back: EXO’s Chanyeol Makes the Holiday Season Merrier for Philippine EXO-L

The latest visit of CHANYEOL to the Philippines is the cherry on top of this holiday season. The Cherry Prince delighted Filo EXO-Ls and Yeolmaes at PENSHOPPE’s recent fan meet.

For an exclusive fan meet last December 16, PENSHOPPE flew EXO’s Park Chanyeol, also known as CHANYEOL, to the Philippines as their newest global ambassador! Just in time for the holidays, the event—which took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena—was CHANYEOL’s largest fan meet in Manila to date.

The evening began with a bang as the multi-talented artist wowed the crowd with a polished rendition of EXO-SC’s “Nothin” while wearing items from PENSHOPPE’s Holiday Collection. After formally welcoming the audience, self-described Koreanophile Kring Kim began the show with a “Keeping Up with CHANYEOL Segment,” in which The Cherry Prince himself had the opportunity to choose from a variety of large envelopes containing questions that gave fans a close-up look at the KPOP sensation.

Subsequently, the crowd in the arena let out a collective swoon as the “Happy Virus” launched into an entertaining fast-talk style section, fielding audience members’ questions. Following that, fans had the opportunity to dazzle and showcase their moves as CHANYEOL performed for the “Don’t Mess Up My Tempo!” segment, in which he saw followers dance to dance videos created by PENSHOPPE. He took on the challenge of figuring out which songs the dances were originally choreographed to, just to liven up the evening even more.

The segment showcased the idol’s lively demeanor and demonstrated how close CHANYEOL is to his admirers. After that, CHANYEOL used art supplies that were given to him onstage to create five PENSHOPPE t-shirts, showcasing his artistic abilities. The audience then participated in a raffle to win these creative creations. If that wasn’t enough to get fans excited, CHANYEOL raised the stakes when the host asked him to say “Mahal Kita” with various expressions. An on-screen Kilig Meter gauged how enthralled the audience was with CHANYEOL’s declaration of love for them.

Following that, fans had the opportunity to express their admiration for CHANYEOL directly through voice notes that were played during the performance and a fan sign that was large enough for CHANYEOL to read from the stage. The emotional event came to a close with CHANYEOL being crowned as the “Cherry Prince” by the audience, with each person donning a crown adorned with cherries as a symbol of their recognition of him as their real Cherry Prince!

CHANYEOL also performed fan favorites such as Tomorrow, SSFW, Rodeo Station, and his latest smash tune, Good Enough, throughout the night.

As a spinoff of his continuing fancon tour, PENSHOPPE’s fan meet is not only a perfect way to cap off his busiest year to date in the Philippines, but it also marks his first time performing some of his songs alone in Manila.

PENSHOPPE Brand Director Brandon Liu remarked, “This event is the perfect way to culminate CHANYEOL’s exciting year with PENSHOPPE.” He continued, “Over the years, the way Filipinos value music and culture has changed significantly, and PENSHOPPE’s collaboration with CHANYEOL is evidence of this love for variety. We’re honored to work with a force like CHANYEOL as a brand that supports the diverse interests and abilities of Filipinos in today’s world.”

Since being named PENSHOPPE’s newest ambassador in March, CHANYEOL has made a point of showcasing the brand’s easy-to-wear pieces and alternating between dressier and more casual styles. His collaboration with PENSHOPPE was intended to enhance the idol’s bond with PENSHOPPE customers as well as to highlight his recognizable style and sense of fashion.

“In almost a year of working with CHANYEOL, we’ve really seen how his style has influenced Filipino fans greatly. They’re inspired to make a statement, while staying true to their personal style the way CHANYEOL does. We’re confident that this partnership will allow fans to better connect with him and know him in a way different from before,” said GOLDEN ABC’s Vice President for Retail Brands Jeff Bascon.

PENSHOPPE is a brand at the forefront of fashion trends, with apparel designed for boundless self-expression in daily life. Just like with CHANYEOL, PENSHOPPE can help you make bold but authentic style statements that are uniquely yours.

    Asia Artist Awards

The biggest stars from Asia came together for the spectacular 2023 Asia Artist Awards (AAA), which took place on December 14 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. The AAA was held in the Philippines for the first time this year, and it is frequently compared to the Asian Oscars and Grammy Awards. It was a spectacular show of flair, talent, and fashion.

The Filipino fans, who are renowned for their fervent support, were up in force and expressed their love in a variety of ways. In addition to wearing clothes that were inspired by their favorites, they also brought lightsticks, photocards, and other mementos to the event as a way to honor them. At the Philippine Stadium, the Fan Zone was a hive of activity with interactive picture booths and walls where fans could write notes for their idols. The fans had a great day meeting new people who shared their admiration for the idols and collecting goodies. The positive energy persisted during the main performance as the musicians’ names were sung by the audience. An even more unforgettable night was created by cheering fan chants during songs.

A huge highlight was the red carpet event when fans came early to see their favorite celebrities. The celebrities, many of whom were making their first trips to the Philippines, did not let their fans or the media down, charming and stylishly displaying themselves. Ryan Bang, a mainstay of It’s Showtime, amused the crowd on the red carpet with his clever remarks, skillfully alternating between Korean, Japanese, Filipino, and English. His amusing remarks and charismatic manner created a stir in X, garnering him a great deal of appreciation from online users for his amusing hosting abilities.

The award winners acknowledged the steadfast support they have gotten from their fans and sent their sincere gratitude to them. They also pledged to keep putting in a lot of effort to win over their followers. NewJeans, Le Sserafim, ZEROBASEONE, BOYNEXTDOOR, and many other idols visited the Philippines for the first time and expressed their joy at getting so much love. Given how much love and support they received from Filipino fans during the awards event, some of them expressed how excited they were to hold their first concert there.

EXO’s Suho reflected on their year of happiness and challenges. Upon winning the AAA Best Emotive award, he told EXO-Ls, “From now on, I’ll continuously stay stable like how I was till now so I can move your emotions. I’ll continuously act and sing well and live well so I won’t be an embarrassing idol.”

Filipino actress Melai Cantiveros—who starred in PULP Studios’ first offering Ma’am Chief—drew laughs
with her quips when she accepted her Best Actor Award. She joked, “If someone (questions) why I have
(an) award, don’t worry. I question too. I just received an award all my life from my mother and father when they were angry with me. Tonight, my heart is kuan. I think it’s because God moves in mysterious ways.”

Actors Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, among other Filipino artists, bagged the AAA Fabulous Award. Daniel thanked his fans and ended with a peace sign, while Kathryn expressed her gratitude for those supporting Filipino-made series and movies. Other Filipino acts like Ben&Ben, and SB19 also won awards, as did Filipino-Argentinian Chanty and her group Lapillus.

Jung Sung Il, who rose to prominence as Ha Do Yeong in The Glory, won his first-ever award, the AAA Scene Stealer. He remarked, “I think the reason why I received an award so late is because there are so many amazing artists.”

Lee Dong Hwi, known for starring in Reply 1988 and Extreme Job, won the AAA Best Actor trophy. He shared his connection with the Philippines, saying, “First of all, the Philippines is like a hometown for me. We shot the casino drama Big Bet for around two months here in the Philippines. I am very grateful to all heartwarming Filipinos. If not because of you, there’s no casino K-drama.”

SEVENTEEN’s BSS subunit members thanked their collaborator Lee Young Ji as they won the AAA Grand Prize for Album of the Year. BSS said, “If not for her, we wouldn’t be able to receive this award.” Seungkwan also went down from the stage to give her the trophy.

ZEROBASEONE dedicated their AAA Best Musician award to their member Ricky, who was unable to make it to the event. Meanwhile, Stray Kids promised their fans to stay tuned for their “new version” in
2024 when they accepted the AAA Grand Prize for Stage of the Year.

The night was filled with Korean artists saying Tagalog phrases like “kumusta ka,” “salamat,” and “mahal ko kayo.” Halfway through the show, MC and soloist Kang Daniel turned to the crowd and asked, “Nasisiyahan ba kayo?” showcasing the Koreans’ love for their Filipino fans. In a surprising turn, ATBO’s Won Bin gave his acceptance speech in Tagalog, revealing he grew up in the Philippines before addressing their fans in Tagalog.

The AAA promised a night of more than many massive hit songs performed over six hours, and the artists delivered with dance breaks, theatricality, audience interactions, pyro, graphics, and idol skills. The show was kicked off by WHIB with a “Bang!” followed by SB19 with a medley. &TEAM joined them with a collaborative stage to the P-Pop group’s top hit “GENTO.”

AKMU, ATBO, DINDIN, HORI7ON, KARD, KINGDOM, Kim Jaejoong, LUN8, Paul Blanco, STAYC, and Yaochen followed with exciting performances of their own. Ash Island, Dreamcatcher, NMIXX, and TEMPEST brought high-energy stages, as did the top Japanese girl group Sakurazaka46. Kep1er, Kwon Eun Bi, and ONEUS gave theatrical and sultry performances.

&TEAM, BOYNEXTDOOR, Kang Daniel, Lim Young Woong, and ZEROBASEONE charmed audiences with their stages. ITZY and THE BOYZ gave edgy, memorable performances, complete with props and
    pyro.

With their hits, NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM had everyone up and dancing. Stray Kids increased the intensity. With a 12-minute performance that featured everything from tremendous energy, stage presence, synchronization, theatricality, and pure artistry, SEVENTEEN’s BSS brought the awards program to a close. Even Lee Youngji came onstage with them.

The 2023 Asia Artist Awards served as more than just an awards show; it was a celebration of Asian talent and evidence of the ability of entertainment and music to bring people together. It was a truly unforgettable night for those concerned, as the event not only featured the best of Asian entertainment but also encouraged a closer bond between artists and their followers.

The 2023 ASIA ARTIST AWARDS was made possible through the efforts of StarNews, TONZ Entertainment, and the Philippines’ one and only trailblazer in live Hallyu events, PULP Live World.

5 Momentous Scenes from the 2023 Asia Artist Awards in the Philippines

An unforgettable evening of celebration and camaraderie, the 2023 Asia Artist Awards was a momentous occasion that put the Philippines, with its rich tapestry of cultural traditions and fast-growing entertainment sector, to the center stage.

Undoubtedly, the 2023 Asia Artist Awards in the Philippines is a historic event that brought attention to the nation. It was the first time the country hosted an award ceremony of that nature, bringing together over 50 stars at the Philippine Arena—a fitting location for the largest assembly of Asian artists in the country.

From the red carpet event to the six-hour main program, which saw artists come together, get recognized, and perform in front of thousands of fans from all over the Philippines and the world, December 14 was filled with these historic moments.

This article takes a retrospective look at some of the key moments during AAA 2023.

#1 Philippine Flag Raised High and Proud: Filipino Acts in the Spotlight

Filipino musicians made their debut as the nation’s representatives at the Asia Artist Awards, honoring the Philippines with their deserving accolades and stirring performances. Ben&Ben, the Spotify Philippines’ Top Local Artist of the Year, won the Best Choice Award, and Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, the nation’s box office superstar, received the Fabulous Award.

Vinci, Kim, Kyler, Reyster, Winston, Jeromy, and Marcus performed a rock rendition of their song “SIX7EEN” from their first album, Friend-Ship, showcasing a different side of HORI7ON. Along with Ahn Donggu, The Boyz’ Younghoon, and LUN8, the boy group also received the Focus Award. “Who’s Next?” from their Girl’s Round Part.2 was given a hip-hop makeover by Chanty and Lapillus who received the Potential Award with ATBO, Paul Blanco, and Yoo Seonho.

However, a discussion about the 2023 Asia Artist Awards in the Philippines will never be complete without giving due credit to Ma’am Chief, Melai Cantiveros-Francisco, the first honoree of the evening, who stole the show as soon as she walked on the red carpet. The actress enthralled everyone at the Philippine Arena with her wit and comedy, which made the occasion more enjoyable.

Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord! And to my family, we will serve the Lord.

And, of course, the bearers of the Philippine flag, who kicked off the celebration with a fiery stage performance—SB19! With intense and breathtaking performances of their mega-hit “Gento” and a combination of their greatest songs “Mana,” “Bazinga,” and “CRIMZONE,” Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin opened AAA 2023.

The P-Pop Kings and the international boy band &TEAM performed a joint rendition of “Gento” to end the inaugural stage. Everyone felt a strong feeling of Pinoy pride as SB19 continued to push Filipino talent to the forefront of the global scene.

In addition, SB19 won the Hot Trend Award alongside NewJeans, Lim Young Woong, Ahn Hyoseop, and Lee Junho, as well as this year’s Best Artist alongside AKMU, ITZY, The Boyz, LE SSERAFIM, and IVE.

#2 Welcome to the Philippine Concert Stage: The Debuts of These Acts on the Local Concert Scene

Although the Philippines never seemed to be short of K-Pop performances, especially this year, suffice it to say that the 2023 Asia Artist Awards made the seemingly distant prospect a reality last December 14. LUN8, ATBO, YAOCHEN, Paul Blanco, KINGDOM, Ash Island, TEMPEST, Kep1er, ONEUS, Lee Youngji, BOYNEXTDOOR, ZEROBASEONE, DinDin, Kwon Eunbi, &TEAM, Sakurazaka46, and LE SSERAFIM made their concert stage debuts in the Philippines during the star-studded event. As it is uncommon to pull together an event that will combine all these artists on one concert platform, the K-Pop singers’ debuts were greeted with unmatched excitement.

    More performances here.

It was also the first time seeing multiple actors and actresses at one time, which was unique because, in contrast to K-Pop singers who frequently include the Philippines on their tour itinerary, actors and actresses rarely get the chance to interact with their local fan base.

NewJeans, who ascended the stage to deafening ovation and emotion and astonished the audience with a ferocious dance break and their hits “OMG,” “ETA,” and “Super Shy,” were one of the most eagerly awaited debut performances of the evening. The girl group was also one of the night’s major victors, winning the Grand Prizes for Song of the Year and Singer as well as the Fabulous Award, Best Choice Award, Asia Celebrity Award, and Hot Trend Award.

Furthermore, the Philippines personally experienced the popularity of Lim Young Woong and the commitment of the Fandom of the Year via AAA 2023. At the event, the trot singer made his stage debut in the local concert scene and won several awards, namely the Fandom of the Year Grand Prize, Fabulous Award, Best Choice Award, Hot Trend Award, and Popularity Award.

#3 On to a Bigger Stage: The Philippine Comeback of These Artists

Several performers made their stage comebacks in the Philippines during the event as well. After their respective fan meetings this year, actors Kim Seonho, Ahn Hyoseop, and Lee Junho—AAA 2023 Actor of the Year—were among the celebrities who came back to the nation for the 2023 Asia Artist Awards. This time, Kim Sejeong, Lee Junyoung, and Suho from EXO made a comeback as actors instead of singers.

“I’d like to thank EXO-L and other EXO members for helping me receive this award.”

EXO’s Suho as he accepts the AAA Best Acting Performance Award.

In celebration of his 20 years in the music industry, Top of K-Pop Record Awardee Kim Jaejoong performed “One Kiss” and “Mine” on stage, showcasing his extraordinary stage presence. ITZY, The Boyz, Dreamcatcher, and NMIXX, who conducted their concerts this year, performed their songs for their Filipino fans on a larger stage this time. Kang Daniel, AKMU, KARD, and STAYC also returned to the stage following their respective events in 2022.

Stray Kids, who gave back-to-back concerts in March of last year, performed their hit songs “MANIAC,” “GET LIT,” “TOPLINE,” and their most recent release, “락 (쨂) (LALALALA).” The boy group was also one of the night’s biggest winners, winning the Fabulous Award, Stage of the Year Grand Prize, and Best Creator Award for 3RACHA.

Seungkwan, DK, and Hoshi, who made history with SEVENTEEN the previous year as the first K-Pop act to perform alone at the world’s largest indoor arena, the Philippine Arena, returned to AAA 2023 as SEVENTEEN BSS, following a year apart from Be The Sun in Bulacan. The trio turned the arena into a party with songs like “7PM,” “Fighting” with Lee Youngji, and “Just Do It.” The Album of the Year Grand Prize went to SEVENTEEN for FML, while the Performance of the Year Grand Prize went to SEVENTEEN BSS.

#4 Thrilla in Bulacan: Exhilarating Daesang Announcements

Being present at the moments during an award ceremony in person made for a different experience. The revelation of Daesang, the biggest winner of the evening, is one of the most thrilling aspects of the 2023 Asia Artist Awards in the Philippines. That evening, seven Grand Prizes were awarded.

    • Actor of the Year – Lee Junho
    • Singer of the Year – NewJeans
    • Song of the Year – “Ditto” by NewJeans
    • Album of the Year – “FML” by SEVENTEEN
    • Performance of the Year – SEVENTEEN BooSeokSoon
    • Stage of the Year – Stray Kids
    • Fandom of the Year – Lim Young Woong

Everyone seems to be holding their breath, sharing their guesses, and waiting for the announcement to be revealed. Joining in on the applause that greeted the victors as they took the award feels amazing.

#5 Philippines On the Center Stage: the 2023 Asia Artist Awards was a Historic First in Philippine Live Event History

The 8th edition of the Asia Artist Awards, a historic occasion in the Asian entertainment industry, took place in the Philippine Arena on December 14, 2023, celebrating Asian greatness and debuting in the Philippines with an impressive lineup. The fact that the AAA was hosted in the Philippines for the first time this year makes it especially noteworthy since it demonstrates the nation’s fervent devotion to K-culture and its growing prominence in the world of entertainment.

There was more to the Asia Artist Awards’ role than just shining spotlights and red-carpet appearances. It provided a platform for fans and artists from various Asian countries to collaborate and engage in cross-cultural conversation and was instrumental in influencing the direction of entertainment in the area by enabling these exchanges. It also supported the spread of Asian pop culture throughout the world and encouraged intercultural understanding.

With a long tradition of recognizing existing legends and showcasing up-and-coming talent, the AAA provides a broad overview of Asia’s vibrant entertainment industry.

  • SB19’s Josh Cullen forges own path with “Get Right”

SB19’s Josh Cullen forges own path with “Get Right”

The upbeat track is helmed by Josh Cullen himself with additional production by frequent collaborator Ocho the Bullet and UK-based indie sensation No Rome.

P-Pop superstar Josh Cullen reclaims creative independence on his own terms with the release of his new single “Get Right” via Sony Music Entertainment.

The electro-pop banger finds the SB19 rapper and vocalist embracing his music journey while navigating the challenges of making a dent in a highly competitive industry as a solo act.

Josh explains, “Basically, it’s a declaration of my return, confidently showcasing my understanding of the game. The lyrics reflect my resilience, self-assurance, and the realization of how the industry operates. It’s about asserting my presence, owning my space, and creating music that resonates with who I am as an artist.”

Written and produced by Josh Cullen himself with frequent collaborator Ocho the Bullet and UK-based indie icon No Rome, the upbeat track marks a significant departure from the vibe and songwriting style of his previous releases. Integrating EDM, hip-hop, and hyper-pop influences with a bass-heavy production, “Get Right” explores music for the sheer joy of reinvention and fun while tapping into a new sonic space that fits Josh’s personal style and brand.

“I was pretty much the brains and director of the process, but my cousin ‘Ocho’ really elevated things, surpassing my expectations,” the fast-rising producer and singer-songwriter explains. “I might’ve pushed him a bit hard with my specific vision, which got a bit stressful. However, he went all out on this insane drop we’d been dreaming of. And you know what? The outcome exceeded all my expectations.”

Josh adds, “Also, No Rome, who was a co-producer, brought some crazy energy to the mix too. His input added this insane energy to the whole process. He really brought some fire to the table.”

    Josh Cullen

The release of the song comes with visuals developed by Josh himself. The music video features Josh and friends hanging out in Los Angeles, enjoying the warm climate and the laid-back, cosmopolitan lifestyle usually associated with the city.

“I just went with the flow and let my creativity run wild during those times,” said Josh. “I wanted to bring the visuals I’ve had in mind since we started making the song to life, and LA turned out to be the perfect spot for it. Yet, truthfully, YouMeUs and my team in LA exceeded all expectations. Despite being only three people in LA, their effort and discipline were monumental. They managed to make it look like a full-blown production with their dedication, imagination, improvisation, and hard work.”

  • Tate McRae tops Apple Music charts in more than 10 countries

Tate McRae tops Apple Music charts in more than 10 countries

Breakthrough pop artist Tate McRae has recently dropped her highly anticipated sophomore album, Think Later.

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Tate McRae solidifies her breakout moment with the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album, THINK LATER via RCA Records.

Upon its debut, the pop blockbuster topped Apple Music in more than ten countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, Norway, and more.

In the Philippines, Tate McRae peaked at no. 14 on Apple Music, and continues to blow up with smash singles “greedy” and “exes” gaining traction on both streaming and top 40 radio.

THINK LATER and its 14 songs are steeped in pop appeal and infectious toplines. Showcasing Tate McRae’s boundless vocal talent and evolution as a songwriter, this new body of work explores the all-too-relatable feelings of falling in love and embracing the raw emotions that you experience as a result of leading with your intuition and heart.

Executive produced by hitmaker Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé), the album features writing collaborators and producers including Amy Allen (Harry Styles, Justin Bieber), Jasper Harris (Doja Cat, Post Malone), Greg Kurstin (Adele, Pink), ILYA (Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith), Savan Kotecha (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd) and more.

Speaking on the album, Tate says, “After freshly turning 20, when I began to zoom out and reflect on the relationships and situations in my life, I realized that a common thread was that I had been living and making decisions much more spontaneously and way less with my head for the past year. This album represents the feelings of falling in love, feeling glimpses of obsession, missing the signs, and feeling the repercussions. I really wanted to lean into a more pop-leaning sound and approach my writing from a way more playful and curious place. I was able to make this album with a few people I admire so much, and could not be more grateful.”

    Tracklist

    1. cut my hair
    2. greedy
    3. run for the hills
    4. hurt my feelings
    5. grave
    6. stay done
    7. exes
    8. we’re not alike
    9. calgary
    10. messier
    11. think later
    12. guilty conscience
    13. want that too
    14. plastic palm trees

Lead single “greedy,” earned the star her first #1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart, Global Excl. US chart and Spotify’s Global chart. The self-assured hypnotic offering has garnered over 552 million streams to date and hit #7 on the Hot 100 along with #1 most added at Top 40 and Hot AC radio upon release. “greedy” has been called “an artistic turning point… a propulsive self-empowerment anthem built around a firecracker of a pop hook that finds McRae dipping in and out of a falsetto while exuding unshakeable confidence” by Billboard.

Of all the new releases on November 17th, Tate’s latest song “exes,” had the biggest debut on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart. It was released alongside a steamy music video featuring intoxicating visuals and high-energy choreography as Tate and her dancers took over a rundown rodeo for the night. Making it her biggest first-week debut to date, “exes” has been deemed “equally infectious…with a chorus that’s catchy enough to put the same kind of success well within reach” by Rolling Stone.

Last month, Tate made her musical guest debut on Saturday Night Live with host Jason Momoa where she performed her hit single “greedy” and debuted a new song “grave.” She was featured on the cover of Billboard’s November Music Awards Issue and performed “greedy” at the award show.

  • Sony Music Entertainment Philippines and Benj Pangilinan honor the tradition of ‘paying it forward’ through the Season of Giving campaign

Sony Music Entertainment Philippines and Benj Pangilinan honor the tradition of ‘paying it forward’ through the Season of Giving campaign

The initiative is part of a campaign to engage the country in a fight to alleviate food insecurity and malnutrition.

Sony Music Entertainment Philippines (SMEP) and Filipino singer-songwriter Benj Pangilinan have recently linked up with Rise Against Hunger Philippines (RAHP), an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable, to support communities in Manila that are impacted by food insecurity and malnutrition.

This initiative is part of Sony Music Group’s global ‘Season of Giving’ campaign, where the company upholds its commitment to collaborating with partner organizations through a series of in-person events and charitable activities.

For this particular project, the international record label has collaborated with Rise Against Hunger Philippines in enacting programs that are designed to uplift the lives of many people through food aid and entertainment. In a collective statement, RAHP was all praises to Sony Music Philippines and Benj for spreading the holiday joy with the children this season of giving. “Their dedication to give back not only makes this holiday season merrier for the kids but also makes our mission to achieve food security all the more possible.”

The fast-rising recording star has recently joined the SMEP team through a day of volunteering and performances at the Better World Tondo community center, which functions as a food bank and feeding center. This is where RAHP holds food drives, and the AHA Learning Center manages an after-class studying program for disadvantaged kids.

Aside from providing relief and assistance to the beneficiaries, Benj performed two songs, including his current single, “Dance Like You.”

“Giving back has always been something I’ve loved doing,” the Sony Music talent said. “This opportunity was a wonderful experience for me. Sometimes, when you bless others, you realize later how much you’ve gained and learned from the experience. I’m also grateful to Sony and my management team from Genesis for sharing my vision when it comes to giving back to the community.”

Donning a hairnet, gloves, and a Rise Against Hunger PH apron, the young and promising artist engaged with the kids through fun games and activities and helped in the distribution of food.

In a random act of kindness, the multi-talented newcomer also talked to one of the ice cream cart vendors outside and bought his whole stock for the day. He distributed ice cream to the kids and moms who were present during the feeding program activity.

Benj shares, “We were about to leave, and I just saw the guy selling, so I just thought to help out. I didn’t expect that a small act like that would have such a major impact on them. I’m always happy to help.”

Season of Giving, a global initiative of Sony Music Group, runs throughout the holiday season in collaboration with charity partners across Africa, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Continental Europe, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In addition to Benj Pangilinan, other notable artists who have volunteered with partner organizations and Sony Music Entertainment in the past two years include Shoti, NOBITA, and Hazel Faith.

This campaign also represents the company’s ongoing philanthropic commitment to forge partnerships and support communities that need it most, which are anchored in its culture of making a difference and contributing to social development through music.

“At Sony Music Philippines, we believe in using our platform to not only entertain but also to uplift and empower communities,” Roslyn Pineda, General Manager, Philippines, Sony Music Entertainment, explains in a press statement. We are committed to continuing our Season of Giving initiatives and partnering with organizations like Rise Against Hunger Philippines to create a positive impact in our society.”

Pineda adds, “Together with artists like Benj Pangilinan, we look forward to more opportunities to give back and make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most. We are immensely proud of their dedication and grateful to have such compassionate individuals as part of our Sony Music family.”

  • Offshore Music delivers ‘kaleidoscope of emotions’ on the 9-track holiday album, An Offshore Christmas

Offshore Music delivers ‘kaleidoscope of emotions’ on the 9-track holiday album, An Offshore Christmas

An Offshore Christmas features tracks from Ena Mori, Mt. Lewis, Elton Clark, Sansette, and more!

Offshore Music, a Manila-based record label known for its focus on creative integrity, captures the spirit of the holiday season with a new compilation album, An Offshore Christmas, featuring its stellar roster of local music acts.

Aptly titled An Offshore Christmas, the 9-track record earworms its way into the collective consciousness with diverse stories spanning generations and experiences, interpreting what Christmas meant from varied lenses: a joyful hymn that brims with life and humanity, a vodka-induced downer that revels in the sentiments of missing home, a quirky jam that envelopes listeners with comforting warmth, and simply, a frustrated sad song that barely keeps up with the season’s booming, optimistic energy.

As Offshore Music CEO Ely Buendia puts it, “The album is a kaleidoscope of emotions, from melancholy to euphoria, as well as a feast for anyone who enjoys all kinds of music.”

Offshore Music General Manager Audry Dionisio takes pride in the record’s insistence not to be boxed in the usual category of how a holiday-inspired album should be. She points out, “We also made sure that people from different walks of life would not feel left out. Every song in the album can be played way past the Christmas season, that’s for sure.”

The Christmas-themed album features recently released tracks from its esteemed lineup of artists, including Pinkmen, Suspiria Pink, Elton Clark, Sansette, Eliza Marie, JR Oca Experience, Sulo, as well as additional new songs from ena mori and Mt. Lewis.

“With the new roster of artists on board, it also created a fresh and inspired energy within us to collaborate more with them and for them to showcase their abilities to the public more,” Offshore Music A&R Director Pat Sarabia shares.

Mt. Lewis’ “Trip To Jerusalem,” the album’s focus track, provides a contemporary spin on The Eraserheads’ cult holiday classic while retaining the original’s intrinsic charm and fuzz. When asked about how he feels about the rendition, Ely Buendia expressed his approval of the band’s tenacity to breathe new life to an underrated, deep cut. “We thought it was fitting to honor their brave achievement by having one of our artists cover a song from Fruitcake for our own Christmas release.”

Another album highlight is ena mori’s “Christmas Song (Version II),” a bittersweet little tune about choosing to celebrate Christmas alone with cats rather than joining a party filled with family members and friends who do nothing but send a minefield of emotional triggers. Over snappy, acoustic guitars and minimal percussions, the alt-pop star delivers an anthem that is bold and uncompromising in its message but remains hopeful amidst the intention to hide the hurting.

Offshore A&R Manager Otep Tumambing emphasizes that the holiday record is more than just a reinforcement of postcard-perfect tradition but also a time to nurse the wounds of isolation and grief—all valid feelings that deserve to be celebrated on the same level as their merrier counterparts.

“Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays globally, symbolizing joy, togetherness, and generosity. An Offshore Christmas aims to provide our artists and their audience with a platform to express their views on Christmas, even if it’s about sadness and loneliness. Not everyone experiences the usual ‘happy’ Christmas, and they deserve to be celebrated as well.”

‘An Offshore Christmas’ is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Offshore Music and Sony Music Entertainment.
