Return to the Scene of the Crime with โ€˜BERLINโ€™

Money Heist spin-off Berlin has consistently claimed its spot in Netflixโ€™s top series category since its launch on December 29, 2023 and for good reason: it stars none other than fan-favorite Berlin (Pedro Alonso) and introduces his โ€œoldโ€ thrilling crew consisting of code virtuoso Keila (Michelle Jenner), engineering and physics academic Damiรกn (Tristan Ulloa), locksmith Roi (Julio Peรฑa Fernรกndez), gadget and weapon expert Bruce (Joel Sรกnchez), and enigma Cameron (Begoรฑa Vargas).

While set years before the daring heist at The Royal Mint of Spain,ย Berlinย has orchestrated a captivating reunion of sorts for fans by bringing back some iconic characters from the original series including Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituล„o) and Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

Showrunners รlex Pina and Esther Martinez unveil a fresh perspective regarding this prequel and share that while Berlinโ€™s a โ€œlighterโ€ take on the beloved series, its emphasis on “love” is what makes it unique from the original material: โ€œWe always look for elements that really connect with the viewer, and love is one of those elements. And there are so many facets to love. In fact, the story shows a range of types of love in which the characters vie to show different moments of love, to show different situations.โ€

Echoing the showrunnersโ€™ sentiments, Berlin titular character actor Pedro Alonso has this to say about the project and his character in this prequel: โ€œI’ve often heard that Berlin is a cynic. Not at all. He’s sarcastic, he has a diabolically dark sense of humor, and he can be fascinating, a real prick, whatever you want, but not a cynic. He’s a man who’s committed to rediscovering a great life, falling in love in the face of common sense and logic. A man who’s made to love, in spite of everything.โ€

In addition to the fresh and gripping narrative,ย Berlinย captivates audiences with its breathtaking scenic spots, with the series being shot in 146 locations within numerous provinces of Spain like Madrid, Almeria, and Leรณn and in the romantic city of Paris. The show dazzled with scenes filmed in iconic Parisian landmarks such as the Church of Saint Julien Le Pauvre, Chรขteau dโ€™ Ormesson-sur-Marne, Sacrรฉ Coeur, and other streets of Montmartre.

Aside from these beautiful locations, the show charms with its curated music, including tracks originally recorded for the series like its opening theme โ€œBullets and Flowersโ€ by Francis White and Nikki Garcรญa, โ€œNo me miresโ€ by POL 3,14., and โ€œTout Ou Rienโ€ by Pipo Romero.

  • Sony Music Entertainment Philippines and Benj Pangilinan honor the tradition of โ€˜paying it forwardโ€™ through the Season of Giving campaign

Sony Music Entertainment Philippines and Benj Pangilinan honor the tradition of โ€˜paying it forwardโ€™ through the Season of Giving campaign

The initiative is part of a campaign to engage the country in a fight to alleviate food insecurity and malnutrition.

Sony Music Entertainment Philippines (SMEP) and Filipino singer-songwriter Benj Pangilinan have recently linked up with Rise Against Hunger Philippines (RAHP), an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable, to support communities in Manila that are impacted by food insecurity and malnutrition.

This initiative is part of Sony Music Groupโ€™s global โ€˜Season of Givingโ€™ campaign, where the company upholds its commitment to collaborating with partner organizations through a series of in-person events and charitable activities.

For this particular project, the international record label has collaborated with Rise Against Hunger Philippines in enacting programs that are designed to uplift the lives of many people through food aid and entertainment. In a collective statement, RAHP was all praises to Sony Music Philippines and Benj for spreading the holiday joy with the children this season of giving. โ€œTheir dedication to give back not only makes this holiday season merrier for the kids but also makes our mission to achieve food security all the more possible.โ€

The fast-rising recording star has recently joined the SMEP team through a day of volunteering and performances at the Better World Tondo community center, which functions as a food bank and feeding center. This is where RAHP holds food drives, and the AHA Learning Center manages an after-class studying program for disadvantaged kids.

Aside from providing relief and assistance to the beneficiaries, Benj performed two songs, including his current single, โ€œDance Like You.โ€

โ€œGiving back has always been something Iโ€™ve loved doing,โ€ the Sony Music talent said. โ€œThis opportunity was a wonderful experience for me. Sometimes, when you bless others, you realize later how much youโ€™ve gained and learned from the experience. Iโ€™m also grateful to Sony and my management team from Genesis for sharing my vision when it comes to giving back to the community.โ€

Donning a hairnet, gloves, and a Rise Against Hunger PH apron, the young and promising artist engaged with the kids through fun games and activities and helped in the distribution of food.

In a random act of kindness, the multi-talented newcomer also talked to one of the ice cream cart vendors outside and bought his whole stock for the day. He distributed ice cream to the kids and moms who were present during the feeding program activity.

Benj shares, โ€œWe were about to leave, and I just saw the guy selling, so I just thought to help out. I didnโ€™t expect that a small act like that would have such a major impact on them. Iโ€™m always happy to help.โ€

Season of Giving, a global initiative of Sony Music Group, runs throughout the holiday season in collaboration with charity partners across Africa, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Continental Europe, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In addition to Benj Pangilinan, other notable artists who have volunteered with partner organizations and Sony Music Entertainment in the past two years include Shoti, NOBITA, and Hazel Faith.

This campaign also represents the companyโ€™s ongoing philanthropic commitment to forge partnerships and support communities that need it most, which are anchored in its culture of making a difference and contributing to social development through music.

โ€œAt Sony Music Philippines, we believe in using our platform to not only entertain but also to uplift and empower communities,โ€ Roslyn Pineda, General Manager, Philippines, Sony Music Entertainment, explains in a press statement. We are committed to continuing our Season of Giving initiatives and partnering with organizations like Rise Against Hunger Philippines to create a positive impact in our society.โ€

Pineda adds, โ€œTogether with artists like Benj Pangilinan, we look forward to more opportunities to give back and make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most. We are immensely proud of their dedication and grateful to have such compassionate individuals as part of our Sony Music family.โ€

    ABOUT THE ROSE:
The Korean Alt Pop band is composed of four members: vocalist and guitarist Woosung, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Dojoon, bassist Jaehyeong, and drummer Hajoon. Renowned since their inception for electrifying performances, The Rose quickly became one of Korea’s most sought-after groups delivering a series of critically acclaimed albums that resonated with fans worldwide. In 2019, three of the band members temporarily went on hiatus to fulfill their mandatory military service obligations, during which Woosung pursued a successful solo career, releasing captivating albums and embarking on sold-out world tours. In a moment of sheer joy for their devoted fans, The Rose reunited during one of Woosung’s performances in South Korea in 2022. This reunion paved the way for their first full-length album HEAL, which was inspired by the transformative power of music and the stories shared by both their fans and themselves. HEAL soared to #4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart, while their accompanying HEAL Together World Tour drew an overwhelming crowd of over 90,000 attendees. Now, with their sophomore full-length album DUAL which made the Mediabase 200 chart in its first week of sales, The Rose takes their music to new heights with Rolling Stone UK calling it โ€œan album that takes you on a layered, emotional journey, full of elation, heartache and twists and turns – just like life itself.โ€ Building upon the emotional honesty and vulnerability showcased in HEAL, this latest offering explores the profound concept of ‘balance.’ Seamlessly merging light and dark elements, The Rose masterfully weaves emotions and sounds, capturing the dualistic essence that defines their music.

Before this project came to life and earlier this year, the label kicked off โ€˜We Play Hereโ€™, which is a series of live performances and events to bring fans as well as local and international artists even closer together. Its success was evident because the kick-off โ€˜We Play Hereโ€™ event held at Samsung Hall at SM Aura last April 27 headlined by Felip, Dilaw, Lola Amour, Leanne & Naara and more was joined and well-loved by lots of OPM fans.

Now in their 30th year, Warner Music PHโ€™s dedication to supporting local talent has been stronger than ever. The renowned record label has curated an extraordinary musical experience by reviving some of the strongest hits on their catalog and making it a monumental compilation album, aptly titled โ€˜Warner 30thโ€™

To celebrate the release of these reimagined popular songs from the past decades, an upcoming milestone event is happening this December to guarantee to bring a one-of-a-kind, high-energy live music experience thatโ€™s truly unforgettable for everyone.

The โ€˜Warner 30thโ€™ Compilation launch is to take place on December 8, 2023 at Balcony Music House in Makati. Audiences can look forward to electrifying performances by the label’s commendable artist roster: Lola AmourDilawJason DhakalRangel, and Jireh Lim.

Below is the list of the most sought-after artists signed under Warner Music Philippines who joined the powerful compilation album:

Arthur Miguel, has been part of the Top 10 Spotify daily charts this year with his smash hit โ€œLIhimโ€. His soothing vocals earned a surge of streams and  numerous Spotify playlists such as Hot Hits Philippines, Tatak Pinoy, Viral Hits Philippines, and many more. For this compilation album, he made a rendition of โ€œYour Universeโ€ by Rico Blanco.

A rising singer-songwriter, Noah Alejandreโ€™s music speaks of the struggles and experiences of youngsters. His music is heartfelt, honest, and raw, evident in his singles โ€œNahuhulog Na Saโ€™yoโ€, โ€œEntabladoโ€, and โ€œDi Man Tinadhanaโ€. For the record labelโ€™s anniversary, he mesmerized everyone with his own version of Rico Blancoโ€™s โ€œAntukinโ€

Also, part of this big event are Cliff and Reanne Borella for their own refreshing rendition of Ninaโ€™s hit song โ€œJealousโ€.  Cliff is the most streamed artist in Eastern Visayas and a highly sought-after artist from Ormoc City, Leyte. He peaked at 950,000+ Monthly Listeners on Spotify for โ€œSunsets With Youโ€ which placed in several Spotify editorials and became hit trend in Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia and with over 31 million streams to date. Reanne, also a singer-songwriter from Leyte, gained recognition after winning Philpop 2020 with their bilingual single โ€œSuyoโ€ as one half of the indie pop duo, reon. Now sheโ€™s pursuing her career as a solo artist under Warner Music Philippines.

A true artist and performer since childhood, Rangel joined local talent competitions, learned to play the guitar and uploaded her first original song to Soundcloud in 2016. Her popularity rose further after being part of noontime show Eat Bulaga. She was part of Music Hero, a now disbanded pop-rock group that popularized a song she wrote — โ€œKLWKNโ€. Since going solo and joining Warner Music Philippines, she has released โ€œHanggang Saanโ€, โ€œDIKAโ€, โ€œBabalikโ€, plus her own version of Kitchie Nadalโ€™s hit, โ€œSame Groundโ€.

Born into a family closely tied to music, jikamarie first made headlines for her track โ€œlutangโ€ which reached #22 on the Spotify Daily Chart. More releases followed with โ€œKailangan ko ngโ€ฆโ€ โ€œKISLAPโ€, โ€œthe sun is youโ€, โ€œHALIMAWโ€, and even collaborated with JRLDM and Jireh Lim. She brings good vibes with her own take on โ€œBulongโ€ by Kitchie Nadal. To date, she is gearing up for her first debut album.

The talented contemporary queer R&B singer-songwriter Jason Dhakal is also part of the mix. His spectacular and refreshing revival of Sittiโ€™s โ€œPara Sa Akinโ€ has taken the track to the top 50 on Spotifyโ€™s Daily Chart. Jason  marked his breakthrough with his critically-acclaimed debut EP โ€˜Night Inโ€™ in 2018 which saw collaboration tracks with Jess Connelly and dot.jaime. In 2020 he released โ€˜lovesoundโ€™ co-produced by celebrated local composer LUSTBASS. Jason also did a collaboration with Arthur Nery on โ€œHappy w uโ€ and was part of various local festivals Fรชte de la Musique, All Of The Noise, and Double Happiness by 88rising.

JRLDM who dropped notable singles โ€œPatiwakalโ€, followed by โ€œPARASITIKOโ€ just teamed up with Party PaceASTRO, and Slimm in his refreshing R&B-Hip-hop version of โ€œLaklakโ€ popularized by rock band Teeth. His artist name is a stylized iteration of โ€œJerald-Damnโ€.

P-Pop Group 1st.One is also part of the celebration, crafting a poppy and danceable version of the hit song โ€œYour Loveโ€ by Alamid.

โ€œChinelasโ€, one of Kamikazeeโ€™s earlier hits, was also given a total makeover from one of the most sought-after bands this year, Baguioโ€™s pride Dilaw. The band teamed up with AsianCutie to create the track. The band went viral this year for their breakout song, โ€œUhaw (Tayong Lahat) with now over 124 million Spotify streams and millions of engagements on TikTok. The track won Best Alternative Recording, Best Performance by a Group Recording Artist, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year at the 36th Awit Awards in November 2023.

Born and raised in Davao, Paul Pablo rose to popularity with songs like โ€œBanginโ€, โ€œKalawakanโ€ and โ€œKayaโ€. He did a remarkable spin on Rico Blancoโ€™s 2008 comeback single โ€œYugto.โ€ His fresh take on OPM and the impressive LGBTQ representation is proves to be changing the game in the Philippines Music Industry.

FELIP surprised everyone with an acoustic guitar-driven version of โ€œMoving Closerโ€ which was originally performed by Never The Strangers off their 2012 self-titled album. The P-Pop soloist dropped his debut EP COMโ€ขPLEX this year and it was loaded with hip-hop, R&B, and trap music. His single โ€œROCKSTAโ€ now has almost 3 million streams on Spotify.

Up-and-coming artist Nicole Anjela collaborated with Josh Dutch and did a soothing version of โ€œSo Blueโ€ originally performed by Sinosikat?

Rising six-piece folk-pop band Sugarcane is also part of the compilation record, doing a captivating revival of โ€œSet You Free,โ€ one of the most popular songs from Side A. The band, who has over 2.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify has eight original songs in the millions of streams on the said platform. Their most popular song โ€œLeonoraโ€ now has over 40.6 million streams. Their song โ€œParuparoโ€ has been nominated for Song of the Year, Best Alternative Recording, and Best Collaboration in Awit Awards 2023.

For the record labelโ€™s 30th year anniversary, they did a refreshing take on Kitchie Nadalโ€™s โ€œHuwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihinโ€ which exploded during the early 2000s.

Fans can expect a blend of nostalgia and fresh vibes as Warner Music Philippines revisits iconic tracks from its illustrious catalog while introducing new and exciting sounds that continue to define the label’s future. Avail limited tickets for the โ€˜Warner 30thโ€™ Compilation launch via warner30th.helixpay.ph.

  • Sony Music Entertainment Philippines and Shoti spread holiday cheer with this yearโ€™s โ€˜Season of Givingโ€™ campaign

Sony Music Entertainment Philippines and Shoti spread holiday cheer with this yearโ€™s โ€˜Season of Givingโ€™ campaign

The initiative is part of a campaign to engage the country in a fight to alleviate food insecurity and malnutrition.

Sony Music Entertainment Philippines (SMEP) continues to give back to disadvantaged communities through food aid and relief.

This comes as part of Sony Music Groupโ€™s global โ€˜Season of Givingโ€™ campaign, where the company and its artists are paying it forward to the countries in which the international music label operates. Across the world, SMG is supporting global organizations dedicated to providing aid for those facing food insecurity, homelessness and refugee support, as well as music industry relief and educational programs for communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the international music label has partnered with Reach Out and Feed Philippines for a feeding program that provides assistance and relief to households in highly urbanized areas such as Barangay Damayang Lagi in Quezon City. Sony Music has been partners with them since last year, where they provided food aid, along with pop-rock band, NOBITA, to local communities impacted by the pandemic.

As reported by Reach Out and Feed Philippines, the community-wide initiative has supported more than 100,000 individuals to date.

Reach Out and Feed Philippines extended their deepest gratitude to Sony Music for providing valuable support to the feeding outreach. โ€œTheir support is not just a contribution; it’s a lifeline to those in need. Together, we’re making a tangible difference, one meal at a time,โ€ Dawn Cabigon, Founder and Chairperson of Reach Out and Feed Philippines said.

The team, which was headed by Sony Music, distributed healthy meals to indigent families. Shoti, one of the labelโ€™s recording stars, volunteered and serenaded the beneficiaries with his music, which includes a performance of the viral smash โ€œLDR,โ€ the new single โ€œwaiting 4 u (delulu),โ€ and a rendition of the holiday classic โ€œJingle Bell Rock.โ€

“Iโ€™ve received a lot of blessings this year,โ€ said the teen pop singer-songwriter. โ€œAnd the least thing that I can do is to pay it forward in my own little way. Iโ€™m grateful to my Sony Music family and Brgy. Damayang Lagi for the opportunity to bring joy and inspiration to these families. Iโ€™m honored to have used my platform in enacting impactful changes within the community, and I hope to be of service to more people in the future.โ€

Shoti also encouraged the children and parents to join him on the LDR TikTok dance trend, which drew cheers and laughter among the participants.

Heโ€™s one of the artists that supports Sony Music Entertainmentโ€™s countless philanthropic activities every year, with the utmost goal of creating valuable and positive social impact for a better future.

Roslyn Pineda, General Manager, Philippines, Sony Music Entertainment, expressed her gratitude to Shoti for his time and generosity to the cause. โ€œI am incredibly proud of our young artist Shoti, who, at just 16 years old, displayed immense dedication and commitment by flying all the way from Cebu to Manila to participate in the feeding program organized by Reach Out and Feed Philippines. Shoti’s willingness to go the extra mile to make a difference is truly inspiring.โ€

Season of Giving, a global initiative of Sony Music Group, runs throughout the holiday season in collaboration with charity partners across Africa, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Continental Europe, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Facilitating volunteer events in each region where they have an office presence, Sony Music Group through Sony Music Entertainment Philippines, showed an unwavering commitment to help secure the resources needed to serve the most vulnerable individuals and families in different parts of the world.

Global Pop Superstar Dua Lipa Releases New Single โ€œHoudiniโ€

    Dua Lipa - Houdini

Today, global superstar Dua Lipa has returned with โ€œHoudiniโ€ โ€“ the highly anticipated track introducing the beginning of a new chapter following her 2020 smash Future Nostalgia. The track is out today alongside its official music video, which you can watch here.

“Houdini” kickstarts the narrative thread that weaves its way through Duaโ€™s upcoming project. Dua notes that โ€œHoudini,โ€ โ€œembodies that 4 a.m. feeling when the night is coming to a close and you’re a bit sweaty, but you just don’t want the party to end.โ€ The official music video, directed by Manu Cossu with cinematographer Andrรฉ Chemetoff, sees Dua post-rehearsal in a dance hall, revising her choreography under fluorescent lights. The lights reflect in the roomโ€™s mirrors, creating an optical illusion as the energy
    begins to swell.

โ€œThis track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,โ€ says Dua. โ€œโ€™Houdiniโ€™ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if Iโ€™ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, thatโ€™s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. Iโ€™m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.โ€

“Houdini” was written byย Lipa, along withย Carolineย Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobiasย Jessoย Jr., and Tame Impalaโ€™s Kevin Parker, a group who served as core collaborators throughout the project, and was produced by Parker and Harle. โ€œA lot of this album was written in those joyous moments of absolute chaos and how I moved through the world with lightness and optimism of whatever the outcome may be,โ€ says Dua.

3x GRAMMY and 6x Brit Award-winning international pop powerhouse Dua Lipa closed out 2022 as one of the top performers of the year, with both Variety and Billboard naming her Future Nostalgia World Tour among the best live shows of the year. The tourโ€™s namesake album solidified Duaโ€™s position as both a critical success and top radio performer. Future Nostalgia is certified platinum in the US and UK, was the longest running top 10 album by a female artist on the Billboard 200 in 2021, and has spawned multiple worldwide hit singles, with โ€œLevitatingโ€ earning certified diamond status and the title of Billboardโ€™s No. 1 Hot 100 Song of 2021. Most recently, Dua co-designed Versaceโ€™s โ€œLa Vacanzaโ€ collection, alongside the iconic Donatella Versace herself. Sir Cameron Mackintosh has shared his enthusiasm for bringing the title to the Philippines.  โ€œIโ€™m absolutely thrilled to be bringing my spectacular new production of Miss Saigon to Manila. Without a doubt, it is the best production of Saigon I have ever produced, with one of the most brilliant casts that have ever performed the show around the world. I canโ€™t envisage another show of this scale being done in Manila for the foreseeable future.โ€

Carlos Candal, GMG Productionsโ€™ CEO added that โ€œFollowing the incredible success of Hamilton, and continuing with GMGPโ€™s commitment to bringing the absolute pinnacle of musical entertainment to Manila, I could not be more excited to be presenting โ€œMiss Saigonโ€ at the Theater at Solaire. Filipinos have a deep connection with โ€œMiss Saigonโ€ because it has been the stage where countless Filipino artists have had their moment to shine.โ€ โ€œThe production has given talents like Lea Salonga, Jon Jon Briones, Joanna Ampil, Rachelle Ann Go, and countless others a platform to showcase their extraordinary skills and passion, and weโ€™re excited to welcome a new company of world-class performers to share the new staging of this phenomenal productionโ€

The Tonyยฎ and Olivier award-winning musical has been seen by 38 million people worldwide, staged in 32 countries, in over 350 cities, and in 15 different languages for the past 34 years.

A retelling of Giacomo Pucciniโ€™s classic opera, Madame Butterfly, Miss Saigon moves the love story to 1970s Vietnam. The audience follows a young Vietnamese woman named Kim as she navigates the chaos of Saigon during the Vietnam War, falls in love with an American G.I. named Chris, and embarks on an extraordinary three-year quest for reunion, all while harboring a heart-wrenching secret.
