K-Pop Stans for Good Governance (KS4GG) raised P16,726.20 to help build a residence for the Home for the Indigent Gay Men, more commonly known as The Golden Gays—a non-profit organization that shelters the elderly members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Last February 12, KS4GG and the fans of K-Pop girl group MAMAMOO, known as MOOMOOs, celebrated the group’s first solo concert in the country, MY CON, with MYCONtinuation After Party in Manila.
In celebration of Pride Month, funds raised from the event were donated to The Golden Journey—an initiative led by Drag Race Philippines Season 1 winner Precious Paula Nicole. Discrimination and growing old alone are constant fears for the elderly LGBTQIA+ community. The Golden Journey seeks to address this by building a permanent home for The Golden Gays and providing them with a means to thrive through a sustainable livelihood program.
KS4GG notes that MAMAMOO members are known allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, so it was only fitting for the queer community to be the beneficiaries of the MOOMOOs efforts. Drag superstar Precious Paula Nicole shares “Thank you for joining us on The Golden Journey. In its third K-Pop concert after-party, K-Pop Stans for Good Governance (KS4GG) raised P25,000 for UNICEF Philippines’ nutrition programs.
On February 4 and 5, KS4GG and fans of the K-Pop group ENHYPEN, known as ENGENES, celebrated the group’s successful sold-out MANIFESTO concert with That Feeling When in Manila: Manifesto in Manila After Party.
“Your energy is really different!” ENHYPEN members praised Filipino ENGENES for their immense crowd participation during the three-day show. True enough, as the group’s ‘Go Big or Go Home’ song suggests, ENGENES were still able to showcase their brightest smiles and radiant energy to sing and dance after hours at the party.

The world’s biggest basketball tournament is about to unfold in Manila at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, with basketball legend Luis Scola gracing the much-anticipated draw with performances by American rapper Saweetie, Sarah Geronimo, and Billy Crawford this Saturday, April 29 at the Smart Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.
Scola has won multiple medals as a member of the national men’s basketball team of Argentina. He played for Argentina’s national squad from 2001 until 2019, winning two silver medals at the FIBA World Championships, one each in 2002 and during his final tournament in 2019 at the age of 39. During the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship tournament, Scola became the all-time leading scorer in FIBA AmeriCup history and won his 4th tournament MVP.
On the live performance side, Saweetie is an American rapper who made a name for herself by rhyming over iconic tracks, giving a nod to those who came before while building her own catalog of fiery hits such as “My Type,” “Tap In,” and “Best Friend,” a collaboration with Doja Cat.

Dream Theater fans in the Philippines, “May the Fourth” be with you, as the progressive metal band Dream Theater is in for a treat this 2023.
Dream Theater, comprised of James LaBrie, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, John Myung, and Mike Mangini, were in the middleof a sold-out world tour in support of their last release, Distance Over Time, and the 20th anniversary of Scenes From A Memory whena global pandemic brought the world to a stop. The musicians found themselves at home with LaBrie in Canada and the rest of the group in the States. As fate would have it, they’d just finished construction on DTHQ (Dream Theater Headquarters), a combination live recording studio, rehearsal space, control room, equipment storage facility, and creative hive. With LaBrie in Canada, he initially wrote with the band via Zoom on a monitor in DTHQ. In March 2021, he flew down to New York, quarantined himself, and recorded his vocals face-to-face with Petrucci. The album, A View From The Top Of The World, ultimately threaded together lean and uncompromising hooks with tried-and-true technical proficiency.
“We just love to play our instruments,” observes Petrucci. “That never goes away. I love to be creative, write, and exercise that part of my mind. We’ve been able to do this for a long time, and we don’t take it for granted. Whenever we get together, we know we can’t disappoint ourselves or our fans, so we manage to try even harder.”
“We approach every album like it’s our first,” adds LaBrie. “It’s been such a great ride, but we’re not going to stop.”
“My takeaway from Manila, for the first time, is that “it was incredible” and I really don’t know how to describe it better than we have. We didn’t know what to expect; we did get there, and finally, we’re doing the concert. It was an amazing experience; the fans were absolutely fantastic, and we could tell that they were having an amazing time and a great experience. The concert will be held on Dec. 22 at 8:30 p.m. at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque City. For Smart subscribers who were not able to secure tickets early on, the concert will be made available via the Smart LiveStream app, formerly known as GigaPlay.
This pay-per-view comes on the heels of the launch of Smart Live, which gives Smart subscribers first dibs access to perks in the country’s most epic happenings – from concerts, sports events, and more.

Alesso (Alessandro Renato Rodolfo Lindblad) is a Swedish DJ and music producer who has worked with numerous artists, Including Tove Lo, Hailee Steinfeld, Calvin Harris, Katy Perry, Usher, David Guetta, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Liam Payne, among others. He has performed at numerous music festivals including Coachella, ULTRA, Electric Daisy Carnival, Creamfields, and Tomorrowland. After a three-year long wait, Wanderland Music & Arts Festival is officially back on track after announcing their first wave of artists for their highly-anticipated return set on March 4 & 5, 2023.
The Wave 1 lineup consists of 11 acts that span across the globe with different styles, flairs, and influences, so there’s plenty to be excited about.

Phoenix makes pivotal return
Right off the bat–Phoenix, a pop-alternative band from France, was announced to headline next year’s season.
Phoenix has been well-loved by Filipino fans, many who have been following them since the early 2000s. The opportunity to catch the band’s electrifying sounds and infectious melodies live is a champion move and is something one simply cannot pass up–again.
Wanderland 2023 will mark Phoenix’s third visit to the country and we can only imagine what a spectacle it will be.
Soulful, swoon-worthy superstars
Fall into a dream-like state with soft, lush, and sentimental tunes from Men I Trust (CA) and Stephen Day (US). With carefully-curated melodies and thoughtfully-written lyrics, both artists lead the pack for music that’s perfect for embracing and romanticizing life.
If there’s something that could get you feeling like you’re on cloud nine, you’ve found your go-to’s.
Applaud to Asian acts
Wanderland also sets the stage for discovery and celebration of Asian music. Hailing from Taiwan are alternative-indie pop rock band, Sunset Rollercoaster, and singer-rapper, Leo Wang and making waves from South Korea are alternative K-Pop band, Balming Tiger and K-HipHop artist, George. They are all set to make their debut in the Philippines next year and we’re pumped to experience the diversity and exciting talent from our friends in the region.

Blaster, whorecently pursued a solo career from the band, IV of Spades, made headlines when he debuted DISKO FOREVER (Japanese Version)—yes, the song is completely sung in Japanese! The Sundown, based in Cebu and champions of Wanderbattle 2020, is finally making their way to Manila to bring their nostalgic anthems and tasteful Cebuano sounds on the Wanderland stage. As their name suggests, should we have them play the sunset slot?

Ayala Land makes Christmas happen with the return of Festival of Lights 2022!
After running virtual editions of the Festival of Lights to continue the well-loved tradition while ensuring safety during the pandemic, the most anticipated family Christmas tradition is back LIVE and ON-GROUND at Ayala Triangle Gardens with never-before-seen features to usher a BIGGER and BRIGHTER celebration.
Bobby Dy, Ayala Land President and CEO, shares, “The Festival of Lights is more than just a visual spectacle and delightful sounds. It is a well-loved annual tradition that has enabled us to connect with the community in a very unique way. It has brought joy to millions as it brings together people from all walks of life and from all over the country.”
In partnership with Kroma and Acid House, Ayala Land begins the affair with a fun and quirky introduction to the actual Light Show. Aimed to build a celebratory vibe by creating excitement in light the two-year pause, the intro video—following the idea of “The Christmas Lights Factory”—suggests that Santa and the elves are working hard to bring the Light Show back. Projected on the canopy façade, everyone gathered at Ayala Triangle Gardens will catch the elves as they prepare the Christmas lights machine to work. As soon as it does, the machine produces lights of various shapes, colors, and sizes. The elves, then, pick these up and transport each element from the screen to the trees surrounding ATG. It ends with Santa with a powerful switch that turns everything on, ready for the Light Show.
Director Ohm David and Lighting Designer Sueyen Austero conceptualized this year’s grand presentation. As Christmas tunes play, visuals will be projected on the trees around ATG. It begins with moving constellations that slowly form colorful indigenous patterns to tell the story of creation. As the scene builds, the screen blacks out then reveals stars, halos, parols, and other festive icons, which then merge to form a kaleidoscope of images. Moving and turning, it will ultimately end with an explosion of colors.
Accompanying the light show are three holiday medleys. The first is an orchestral rendition headed by the Manila Symphony Orchestra, followed by an upbeat TikTok rendition arranged by Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso, in collaboration with Tris Suguitan. The show concludes with a soothing chorale rendition by Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso.
The Festival of Lights has been globally recognized as as one of the best Christmas displays in the world, with many awards and citations received over the years. Bobby Dy furthers, “It’s a platform to showcase the Filipino talent. Together with our team, select Filipino designers, musical composers, and many local artists, have worked together to create this one-of-a-kind original show.”
Honorable Abby Binay, Mayor of Makati, muses, “The lights in Ayala Triangle have always been a symbol of hope, bringing people together and symbolizing the community spirit, which makes our city so unique. As we prepare for the Christmas festivities, let us all remember to keep that spirit alive and continue working towards a better and brighter future. In Makati, we make it happen.”
Everyone is invited to watch the Festival of Lights at Ayala Triangle Gardens running every night until January 8, 2023. The show plays every hour, with the first run at 6pm and last run at 10pm.
