  • Filipino teams stand tall as Group Stages conclude in Asia Pacific Predator League 2024 Grand Finals

Filipino teams stand tall as Group Stages conclude in Asia Pacific Predator League 2024 Grand Finals

MANILA (January 12, 2024) The Asia Pacific Predator League 2024 Grand Finals kicked off with an electrifying display of skill and high-octane matches throughout the Group Stages. The Filipino teams have emerged as formidable contenders as the Group Stages reached its conclusion. This premier esports tournament pits 26 VALORANT and Dota 2 teams from the region as they vie for the coveted Predator Shield and the lion’s share of the $200,000 prize pool.

In Dota 2, Filipino powerhouses Blacklist Rivalry and Execration have successfully advanced to the semi-finals, solidifying their positions among the elite.

Blacklist Rivalry, led by world-renowned midlane Abed Yusop, lived up to high expectations, dominating Group A with an impressive 4-0 record. The methodical gameplay was on full display as they systematically dismantled opponents, averaging only 30 minutes per match. Not merely a one-man show, offlaner Kim ‘Gabbi’ Santos similarly demonstrated exceptional form, accumulating 59 assists across their matches.

Execration, despite sharing a group with the dominant Blacklist Rivalry, also secured a spot in the semi-finals. The squad dropped only a single game, facing defeat against the stars of Blacklist Rivalry. Execration secured victories against Malaysian team Mythic Avenue Gaming, fellow Filipino squad ZOL Esports, and India-based Whoops, with Mark ‘Bob’ Urbino leading the charge with an impressive 11 KDA ratio.

On the other side of the bracket, Team Aster from China topped Group B behind Gu ‘Han’ Jiahan’s performance in the midlane. The Chinese team lost only one match in the Group Stages against fellow semi-finalist IHC Esports. The Mongolians continue to show their constantly improving quality in Dota 2, as they continue to have magical moments in LAN events throughout the year.

In VALORANT, Philippine juggernaut Team Secret emerged unscathed in Group D, delivering dominant performances against Malaysian side TODAK and Singapore’s Ender Dragon. Unfortunately, other Filipino squads Oasis Gaming and ZOL Esports, couldn’t progress beyond their respective groups.

Team Secret will face off against Team Flash from Vietnam, Japan’s FAV Gaming, and BOOM Esports from Indonesia. FAV Gaming and BOOM Esports were undefeated in Group A and Group C, respectively.

With two more action-packed days of high-level competition coming this weekend, it will be another Thrilla in Manila at the SM MOA Arena on January 13 and 14, 2024.

On December 14, 2023, the Philippine Arena is set to host a landmark event in the world of Asian entertainment: the 8th edition of the Asia Artist Awards (AAA). This year’s event is particularly special as it marks the first time the AAA will be held in the Philippines, a testament to the country’s vibrant love for K-culture and its emerging significance in the global entertainment landscape.

    2023 Asia Artist Awards

The 2023 Asia Artist Awards, known for honoring and celebrating the achievements of talented artists across the Asian entertainment industry, has garnered immense excitement and anticipation from fans across the globe.

The event will feature performances and appearances from various artists, including NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, SEVENTEEN’s BSS, ZEROBASEONE, BOYNEXTDOOR, Stray Kids, ITZY, THE BOYZ, NMIXX, Kwon Eunbi, Kep1er, SB19, Dreamcatcher, KARD, AKMU, &TEAM, Lee Youngji, STAYC, Ash Island, and many more! Organized by STAR NEWS, TONZ ENTERTAINMENT, and PULP Live World, the Asia Artist Awards is more than an awards ceremony. Often compared to the Oscars and Grammys of Asia, it’s a celebration of Asian talent and creativity, bringing together artists, producers, directors, and celebrities from across the continent. Since its inception in 2016—a development spearheaded by the South Korean business newspaper Money Today, along with global media giants MTN and StarNews, the AAA has consistently celebrated the best the region has to offer in terms of film, music, television, and digital content.

Over the years, the AAA has recognized the talents of K-pop legends BTS and EXO, as well as trot singer Lim Young-woong, and actors Lee Jung-jae and Lee Seung-gi. Hallyu personalities Park Bo-gum and Im Yoon-ah were among the first recipients of the prestigious Asia Star Award. Since then, the AAA has also feted new blood, such as aespa and IVE. With its rich history of honoring established icons and spotlighting emerging talents, the AAA offers a panoramic view of Asia’s dynamic showbiz scene.

And now, the biggest awards ceremony that recognizes the talent in both the film and music industry is going to take place in the Philippine Arena.

  • September Fever to champion Filipino regional indie music with ‘Music Talks’ and ‘Showcase Festival’ programming

September Fever to champion Filipino regional indie music with ‘Music Talks’ and ‘Showcase Festival’ programming

The two-day festival aims to give back to the indie music community in Cebu by fostering inclusivity and representation with tried-and-tested methods that work well in a DIY setting!

Taking center stage with an electrifying twist, September Fever returns with a two-day festival that puts a spotlight on the regional independent music scenes in the Philippines.

Now in its sixth year, the event reformats into a Music Talks and Showcase Festival, improving its programming with a more grassroots-leaning, pro-independent music approach while providing an opportunity for budding and self-sustaining musicians to explore the ropes of the industry and learn from key resource speakers in the music business.

September Fever Festival Director Karl Lucente explains, “In a nutshell, this year’s edition of September Fever Music Festival is a dynamic blend of electrifying performances, informative discussions, and a strong sense of community. It’s a moment when music takes center stage, artists shine, and audiences come together to celebrate the power of creativity and the love of music.”

    September Fever

Day 1: Music Talks and Networking Night

Music Talks, a new segment that was introduced by September Fever this year, is designed to empower and educate the participants on the crucial aspects of the industry. Curated by The Rest Is Noise PH, the forum will cover four main topics and has invited speakers from the scene to discuss the nitty-gritty of DIY ethos with tried-and-tested methods to communicate one’s music brand: Music Marketing and Branding (Ian Urrutia from The Rest is Noise PH and NYOU Consultancy); Music PR and Media Pitching (MC Galang from The Rest is Noise PH and AXEAN Festival); Artist Perspective: Touring Local (Mich Paclioga of Loop PH); and Music Production (Tim Marquez of One Click Straight).

“Beyond the performances, the festival is now introducing a series of engaging music talks,” shares Karl Lucente. “These talks feature industry experts who share valuable insights and advice, particularly for those embarking on their musical journey. From practical tips to behind-the-scenes stories, these discussions provide a wealth of knowledge that can guide aspiring musicians and enthusiasts alike.”

From music marketing and branding strategies to navigating the complexities of music production, these guest speakers will share practical insights and valuable tips that can truly make a difference in one’s musical journey. “Additionally, they’ll shed light on touring in our own land from the artist’s perspective, providing a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make a mark on the global stage,” Lucente reveals.

Following ‘Music Talks,’ the event seamlessly transitions into an insightful Roundtable Discussion that provides invaluable expertise on industry-related topics pertaining to the promotion of local artists. This discourse also proposes the unification of production teams from diverse regions, forming the foundation for September Fever’s 2024 Regional Caravan. Esteemed music producers, production leaders, and industry experts gather to chart a path that transports VisMin’s artists nationwide while championing the indie music movement—a convergence of creative energies where innovation meets collaboration, shaping the future of VisMin’s indie music scene. The Roundtable Discussion will be attended by various professionals in the Philippine music scene: KC Salazar of Indie CDO (Cagayan de Oro); J Martino “Bobbi” Olvido of John Bottles (Cebu); Sandy Kiamko of Holodeck (Davao); Philip Biboso of Southlab (Koronadal); and Josh Alipe of Sapphire (Cebu).

Day 1 is then capped off with a Mixer/Networking Night that aims to connect the press, industry leaders, musicians, entrepreneurs, creatives, and VIP attendees with the goal of fostering meaningful collaborations and opportunities for the artists. Cebu-based rising artists Lolita Grey and Franciskoe will be performing, followed by a DJ set by the Baihaus spinners.

    Day 2: Showcase Festival

While Music Talks lays the groundwork for aspiring musicians in the local indie scene, Day 2 presents a celebration of music excellence featuring some of the most notable names in the Philippine music scenes from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao—be it independent, mainstream, or anything in between.

This year’s September Fever Music Festival artist lineup consists of Cebuano acts Coloura, Kali Hoods, Tomorrow For Sure, Renzo Sy, Sansette, and Wonggoys. They are also joined by guest acts from all over the Philippines: Aira Casti, KRNA, Loner, One Click Straight, Oh, Flamingo!, The Itchyworms, and DJ Love.

Lucente emphasizes that the curation for the showcase format aims to highlight the vibrant tapestry of the Philippine music scene as represented by the eclectic and diverse lineup representing various regions in the country. “This comprehensive approach blends education, entertainment, and cultural exchange, ensuring attendees enjoy the performances while gaining enriching insights for their own musical pursuits,” he adds.

September Fever Music Festival VI is made possible with the partnership of The Rest is Noise PH, Filla Killa, Black Straw Prod Co, and Missing Scene. The music talks and showcase festival will take place on September 22 and 23 at From Here and Draft Punk in Cebu City, respectively.

  • The Philippines Takes Center Stage at the AAA 2023

The Philippines Takes Center Stage at the AAA 2023

Asia Artist Awards, the renowned Asian entertainment award show, gears up for its grand Philippine debut this December.

In a monumental move that underscores the Philippines’ increasing prominence in the international entertainment industry, the esteemed ASIA ARTIST AWARDS (AAA) is set to dazzle audiences in the
    heart of Bulacan.

This year, the Philippines proudly takes center stage as it hosts the prestigious AAA on December 14, 2023, at the iconic Philippine Arena, one of the world’s largest indoor venues.

The ASIA ARTIST AWARDS, a distinguished South Korean award-giving institution, stands as a beacon of excellence in the Asian entertainment sphere.

The sixth edition of the awards ceremony was a grand affair held on December 2, 2021, at the KBS Arena in Seoul, with the charismatic duo of Leeteuk and Jang Won-young taking on hosting duties. Their undeniable chemistry was on display once again when they returned for the seventh edition on December 13, 2022, at the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan. As of this writing, it remains to be seen if they will return for a third time or not.

Beyond the radiant spotlight and red carpet moments, the AAA serves a deeper purpose. It acts as a venue for fostering collaboration and cultural dialogue among artists from different Asian nations. By facilitating these interactions, the AAA plays a vital role in shaping the future of entertainment in the region. It also promotes cross-cultural understanding, and champions the global proliferation of Asian pop culture.

In a significant development leading up to this year’s ceremony at the Philippine Arena, PULP Live World President and CEO Mr. Vernon Go, along with PULP Live World’s Vice President and COO, Ms. Happee Sy-Go, met with the AAA’s top brass at Shangri-La The Fort in Taguig City, Metro Manila. This landmark deal was finally made official last August 14, 2023, in the presence of StarNews CEO Mr. Bahg Junechul, TONZ Entertainment’s CEO Mr. Kuk Byoungjin, and its General Manager Ms. Kim Serin. The contract signing set the stage for the 2023 ASIA ARTIST AWARDS.

The Philippines, with its rich tapestry of cultural traditions and fast-growing entertainment sector, is the perfect backdrop for this year’s AAA. Of late, Filipino artists have consistently enchanted audiences worldwide, making it an epicenter of talent that resonates globally.

The 2023 ASIA ARTIST AWARDS is more than an awards ceremony. It symbolizes the potential of art to bridge gaps in society, transcend borders, and unite people under the banner of creativity. As December 14 approaches, the anticipation is palpable. The Philippines is gearing up to roll out the red carpet for South Korea’s brightest stars, ensuring an unforgettable evening of celebration and camaraderie.

The 2023 ASIA ARTIST AWARDS marks the first time the Philippines will host such an event. It was made possible through the efforts of StarNews, TONZ Entertainment, and the Philippines’ one and only trailblazer in live Hallyu events, PULP Live World.

For the latest news on the event, including the star-studded lineup of artists, fans are encouraged to follow PULP Live World’s official social media channels and website.
