Puregold’s Thanksgiving Concert proved to be the music event of the year, setting a tough act to follow. In a grand celebration of Original Pinoy Music (OPM), the remarkable Panalo stories behind wonderful talents, and Puregold’s many years of making victories happen, the retail giant recently hosted the spectacular Nasa Atin Ang Panalo concert at the Araneta Coliseum.
Held on July 12, 2024, this musical extravaganza, which fans eagerly waited for in the past few months, showcased some of the finest and most loved artists of today’s OPM scene, working together to create beautiful music.
The star-studded event featured spectacular performances–and, to the fans’ delight and surprise, collaborations–from headliners SB19, BINI, Flow G, and SunKissed Lola. OPM enthusiasts and loyal Puregold customers were also treated to appearances by renowned artists Gloc-9 and Skusta Clee, adding even more excitement to the highly anticipated night.
The concert also featured a refreshing lineup of front acts, including Letters from June, Esay, and Kahel, who warmed up the stage and captivated the audience with their unique sounds and artistry.
The surprise collaborations between the artists served as the highlight of Puregold Nasa Atin Ang Panalo Thanksgiving Concert, with each headliner segment featuring a collaboration with another artist.

After their well-received performance in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur a few days ago, Hitsujibungaku will be heading to the Philippines this Saturday for their highly anticipated show.
The Japanese alt-rock trio will be performing this July 6, 2024 (Saturday), from 7 p.m. onwards at East Side Events Place in Marikina City, Philippines.
The headline show in Manila serves as the third stop of their four-city Asian tour. It was conceived as part of the band’s promotional efforts to promote their brand-new album, 12 hugs (like butterflies) to key market audiences outside Japan.
Hitsujibungaku: Live in Manila is presented by GNN Entertainment Productions and The Rest Is Noise PH. The two production outfits recently teamed up to bring Taiwan’s Elephant Gym last year.
Hitsujibungaku is composed by Moeka Shiotsuka (vocals, guitar, songwriting), Yurika Kasai (bass) and Hiroa Fukuda (drums). Melding dreamy vocals with shoegaze riffs and syrupy, noise-pop arrangements, the critically adored band has gained a cult following thanks to the popularity of their song “More Than Words,” which served as the finale song for the second season of the hit anime series, Jujutsu Kaisen.
In December 2023, the globally renowned band released their fourth studio album, 12 hugs (like butterflies), which garnered universal acclaim from music critics and fans worldwide.
Indie folk band Munimuni is set to hold their solo concert ALEGORYA at the UP Theater on July 20.
On the heels of the release of their sophomore album of the same title, Adj Jiao (vocals, guitar), John Owen Castro (flute, vocals), Jolo Ferrer (bass), Josh Tumaliuan (drums), and Ben Ayes (guitar) aim to give their audience an immersive musical experience that will highlight their new music as well as their well-loved tunes. The show will also feature a chamber ensemble and guest performances by Barbie Almalbis, Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, and Sofia Abrogar.
On June 25, Munimuni met with members of the press, answering and humoring various questions, including the story behind their band and their albums, their musical inspirations and dream collaborations, and their philosophy and plans. Here are the highlights of the event.
How did Munimuni come to be?
Their story began at the University of the Philippines wherein they met in a Christian youth organization around 201. Not all of them were batchmates, but they shared the same passion for music. They started sharing their compositions and from there, they went on to playing gigs around the campus. It was 2016 when they decided to record songs. Munimuni became one of the most prominent local bands in their genre, garnering a supportive crowd that has supported them from their roots until now.
Their ALEGORYA concert is their 3rd solo concert and their biggest one yet in terms of scale and crowd size. As if it’s a homecoming, they’re holding it at a place where it all started.
The Makata-pop Band
Sure, Munimuni falls under the indie folk category, but their fans fondly call their genre “makata-pop”. The term started as a joke within the band in 2014, but the terminology stuck with them since. According to Adj, “It was a joke that made some sense. Music is, in itself, poetry for us.”
True enough, their discography is a treasure trove of poetry, “makata-pop” is actually an accurate way to describe it. Rarely do we ever find lyrics like “Ang pagsibol ng buhay ay paglalakbay hawak ang iyong kamay” (“Pagsibol”), “Ang mundo ay nababalot ng iyong pagbangong muli” (“Marilag”), “Maligaya ang pangalan ng dakong pinagmulan ng kahit minsan/ Kabalintunaan ang mga siglaw na pinagtabi sa’yong isipan” (“Maligaya”).
Their lyrics are poems filled with antiquated Filipino words while their harmonies are an unorthodox fusion of folk and familiar pop-rock tunes. Munimuni’s music gives new life and meaning to what appears to be ancient, forgotten wordings that have gone out of normal circulation.
The journey to Alegorya
Unlike their debut full-length album Kulayan Natin which had a more linear approach, Alegorya is “more messy, more wild” in a creative sense. The five-year gap between the albums was filled with their experiences which they tried to translate into music. They even called Alegorya their pandemic album, recounting their Zoom sessions wherein they brainstormed how to go about particular songs. Overall, Alegorya is a bit heavier than their previous album. Adj said the album isn’t meant for easy listening or road trips. It’s meant for deep introspection, meditation even.
On their musical inspirations
When asked about their specific musical inspiration for the album, the band unanimously said there isn’t any particular artist or band they consciously tried to emulate. Alegorya is a collection of their experience and finding the right sound to go with it.
The members have a wide spectrum of personal favorites, ranging from classical to pop favorites. Here are some artists they have named.

On Alegorya’s album art
Except for the intricate layers of their music and lyrics, Munimuni also gave their album art a lot of thought. Alegorya’s album cover features what appears to be a rock with rows of blue and gray hues, bespeckled with bright gold. In the middle, there seems to be a shadow of a person facing sideways. Each song’s Spotify visualizer/canvas and YouTube lyric video also has its art.
According to the band, this artwork was created by Manila-based Photographer Johann Guasch using a technique called macro photography which uses close-up shots of objects, making them appear differently than what they are. Guasch took close-up photos of different rocks to create what appears to be a mystical landscape. This was so in tune with Alegorya’s theme that the band personally reached out to him to have his art featured in their album, to which he agreed. They’ll be meeting each other for the first time at the concert.
What can we expect from the concert?
Munimuni guarantees an immersive experience for the audience. In not so many words, ALEGORYA will be a seamless experience that weaves together their music – old and new – into one narrative. They also hope that the show will also be a way for people to delve into a deeper part of themselves.
Shortly after the press conference, the band performed a short set including “Respeto”, “Dito Muna Tayo” and“Marilag” which showcased their dynamic and hypnotic energy on stage. From there alone, we can safely conclude that the upcoming concert, with its yet undisclosed surprises, will be an even more fascinating spectacle.
Special guests
Four powerful female musicians will also be joining the band on stage: Barbie Almalbis, Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, and Sofia Abrogar from Any Name’s Okay.
Barbie Almalbis, a veteran in the OPM scene, also took part in their current album, particularly in its final song titled “Tupa”. The band said they consider it an honor to work with her. They shared that they admire Barbie’s great love for her craft and her freedom to experiment and explore sounds. Owen, in particular, credited her for teaching him how to use pedals. He ended up buying his first-ever pedal because of her.
Clara, Keiko, and Sofia are friends and collaborators of the band. Clara Benin worked with them on their song “Solomon”. They had also shared the stage with Any Name Okay’s Sofia Abrogar in many instances.
When asked about their dream collaborations, the band thought hard. Some of the names that surfaced were Lucy Rose, Ichiko Aoba, Johnoy Danao, and Bullet Dumas.
Munimuni’s goals
Ten years or so in the indie music scene, Munimuni has found its place and pace. They’re not rushing for anything. “Di kami ‘yung type ng banda to get hit songs or be famous. We just love to make music,” they said. “Our priority is to keep writing and making songs. Bonus na yung makagawa ng hit.” Adj said that the best achievement for him is when their music resonates with their listeners, specifically when fans tell him the impact that their music has on their lives.
Upcoming projects
Munimuni intends to keep exploring art and music. In Alegorya, they pushed the boundaries of their creativity, to go beyond what they had already done before. They want to continue with that energy moving forward. For now, they are focusing on their upcoming concert and they’re planning to do a tour across the Philippines.

Filipino indie-folk collective Munimuni is set to headline their third major concert this Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the UP Theater in Quezon City, Philippines.
ALEGORYA: A Munimuni Concert marks the band’s new era in music-making, which features new songs from the same name’s sophomore album and some old favorites.
It also serves as an introduction to Munimuni’s current lineup: Adj Jiao (guitar, vocals), John Owen Castro (flute, vocals), Jolo Ferrer (bass), Josh Tumaliuan (drums), and Ben Ayes (guitar).
Mapping the band’s current musical journey on the big stage with lavish production values and conceptual storytelling, Alegorya presents Munimuni’s first full-length concert performance since 2019’s Kulayan Natin at Cine Adarna, UP Film Center.
Caleb Vargas, the indie quartet’s manager, recently expressed excitement about Munimuni’s decision to embark on this incredible feat. “I have always been proud of these guys, even before I helped as their manager,” Vargas shares. “I’ve been a fan of their deep music that speaks about the realities of life. I hope everyone can be there at the Alegorya Concert to not just hear their music, but also experience it. Also, watch out for upcoming activities; you might see us around the metro playing songs from the album or even talking about it.”
Aside from Munimuni, acclaimed singer-songwriters and musicians Barbie Almalbis, Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, and Sofia Abrogar of Any Names Okay will also be on the roster of guest acts.
“For the guest artists, we chose people who the band has been friends with for a long time and are artists that we look up to in the music scene,” the experimental folk band explains. “Some of them already have collaborations with us, and some are collaborating with us for the first time. We are excited to see how they will be able to give a different color to our songs.”

Following the success of Huling El Bimbo World Tour in 2023, the Eraserheads are set to embark on another tour this year including cities in North America, Singapore and Dubai. Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro are preparing to deliver another thrilling set of concerts to their fans overseas.
Their historic first reunion show was held at MOA Concert Grounds on December 22, 2022, garnering a staggering total of 75,000 people in the crowd. In 2023, the band proceeded to do a USA-Canada Tour which included cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Toronto. This year, the legendary OPM band will be revisiting some cities as well as adding new stops.
On June 19, the Eraserheads held their contract signing with their business partners which included WEU Event Management, DVent Productions, Tiana Ent. Inc, Live Nation Philippines, ABS-CBN Global. Shortly after, a press conference was held. They talked about their memories from the previous tour and what to expect from their upcoming tour. Here are the highlights of the event.
Eheads Travel Prep
When asked about their travel essentials, each member had their own style.
Marcus readily answered with, “I overpack. It’s better to overpack than to underpack”.
Ely, on the other hand, is a light traveler, bringing only the essentials plus 1 extra luggage for shopping. Buddy quipped, “Berocca, Lola Remedios” which made everyone laugh. “Anything you can think of to keep you healthy and functioning.”
Raimund answered last, “Ang best na dinadala namin, si Ely nagturo niyan, yung portable bidet. Iyon ang huwag kakalimutan sa US tour”.
Each city gets an Easter Egg.
For fun, the Eraserheads also like to include Easter Eggs unique to each city they visit. Raimund explained that they played “American Woman” by Guess Who, a song they used to play in college. Most Memorable Show
When asked about which city was their favorite, Ely and Raimund answered New York, explaining that the crowd’s energy was something special. Buddy also mentions their show at Los Angeles as he could feel that the crowd was very eager to hear their songs.
(Mis)adventures on the Road
Their tour also became memorable because of the adventures they had before and after shows. Raimund fondly shared that there was an instance when they were stranded in the middle of the desert for hours because their bus broke down. They had also experienced logistical mishaps when half of their crew and their equipment were delayed due to a flight delay. They were worried whether they had to postpone the show, but their main reassurance to themselves was “Nakakatugtog ka nga sa Mayric’s eh. Makakatugtog ka rin dito.” Fortunately, their crew and their stuff arrived right before the show.
Choosing the Songs in the Setlist
The Eheads have their own groupchat wherein they discuss which songs to include in the setlist, around 40 in total which they’ll be cycling per stop. For this tour, Ely and Marcus mostly chose the songs. Ely elaborated, “80% is decided by the fans. 15% is decided by family and friends. (Tama ba yung math ko?) 5% is decided by the band.” If the band were to choose 100% of the setlist, they would include deep cuts and obscure Eheads tracks that they want the world to know.
These B-sides have found their rightful place in their soundcheck sessions pre-concert. “For the soundcheck experience, we get to play songs that we love as a band. We do it during soundcheck because we know that the fans who pay for the VIP tickets will appreciate whatever we play.”
Re-arrangement of the Songs
During their Huling El Bimbo concert in Manila in 2022, some of their songs were noticeably rearranged. How did this change come about?
Raimund said it’s more of playing in a tempo they’re comfortable with. Since most of the songs were composed when they were very young. “Mas relaxed na kami, mas relaxed na iyong audience. We play it a little differently but I think it’s still 90% halos iyon ang areglo. Hopefully, we play it a little better now”, he explained.
Buddy backed this up, “ It’s another way of saying that we play differently now. As older musicians, we’ve learned different things through the years. We’ve also learned how to edit ourselves. We have a feeling of what we want to do on stage.” Buddy added, “Ako napansin ko, Buddy plays less notes. I play more notes.” Ely said he considers it a compliment that fans appreciate the way they play the songs now.
What has changed in the band?
It has been almost 2 years since they announced their reunion show in Manila. In the two years that they have been working together again, how has their dynamics changed?
Buddy answered, “We’ve had several dinners under our belt. That way, we are kind of in touch with kung anong kinain ni Ely, kung anong inorder ni Marcus. It helps in our dynamic, sharing a dinner, having drinks, coffee – so we’ve had more of that.” Raimund chimed in “birthdays!”
As it turned, the band members had also celebrated their birthdays together. “Ever since then, we’ve spent a lot more time together. It’s shaping our live show and it’s keeping it fun,” Buddy affirmed.
What are they looking forward to experiencing in this round of shows?
Raimund shared, “It’s the energy that the crowd gives you. It’s like it’s the first time you’re playing, I know some of these are really old songs, but it’s the first time we’re playing it to them and it’s probably the first time they’re hearing it live. There’s that energy that you can’t replicate anywhere else.”
Ely quipped, “It’s also great to see young faces in the audience. They weren’t even born back then. That means that the music still translates to the younger generation which is awesome because you know how they’re so hard to please now. Just kidding.” Marcus added, “The music seems to be growing as well, nag-eevolve for the better, I think.”
Ely admitted that they wanted to re-record some of the songs in their catalog. “Not so much we could own our masters, but because as artists, we found out that we could have done more with our songs,” he clarified. “Something we look forward to as musicians is to become true to our profession and still apply the inspiration we were into back then when we were just starting out.
More Eheads in 2024!
Besides the tour, there are more exciting things ahead for the Eraserheads this year, including the launch of the Huling El Bimbo Official Merch Site on June 21 and a film titled “Combo on the Run” which is currently on the final stage of post-production in Los Angeles. The trailer is set to debut at San Diego, California in July. The band also mentioned that they hope to perform live in more cities around the world.

Acclaimed singer-songwriters and musicians Barbie Almalbis, Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, and Sofia Abrogar of Any Names Okay are announced as special guests at the ALEGORYA: A Munimuni Concert, happening at the UP Theater on July 20, 2024 (Saturday).
Munimuni revealed the additional lineup in a post on their social media platforms today.
“For the guest artists, we chose people who the band has been friends with for a long time and are artists that we look up to in the music scene,” the experimental folk band explains in a collective statement. “Some of them already collaborate with us, and some are collaborating with us for the first time. We are excited to see how they can give a different color to our songs.”
Barbie Almalbis contributed vocals to the recently released album, Alegorya, specifically on the song “Tupa.” Other artists like Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, and Sofia Abrogar are the band’s frequent collaborators and music friends.
ALEGORYA: A Munimuni Concert chronicles Munimuni’s current musical journey with bigger production values and more intricate storytelling this time around, and will navigate towards the presentation of their new era. The Filipino indie outfit, which is composed of Adj Jiao (guitar, vocals), John Owen Castro (flute, vocals), Jolo Ferrer (bass), Josh Tumaliuan (drums), and Ben Ayes (guitar), also shared that the concert will be the longest set the band is performing so far.
“It will be an almost 3-hour show. New and old songs will be performed in the narrative, following themes the band crafted with the intent of creating a journey for concertgoers to experience.”

Dingdong Avanzado is marking his 37th year in show business with a concert entitled “The Original Prince of Pinoy Pop” at The Theatre at Solaire on July 19, 2024, Friday, and his guests for this one-night only show are those who hold an exceptional place in his heart.
Leading the lineup are Dingdong’s family– his wife Jessa Zaragoza and daughter Jayda, his friend Randy Santiago, and, in a very, very special appearance– singer-songwriter Pablo of SB19 whom Dingdong has expressed a deep admiration for.
Also among the guests are Idol Philippines Season 2 winner Khimo, Tawag ng Tanghalan Grand Duets champions Marielle Montellano and JM dela Cerna, and singer and award-winning actor LA Santos.
Each guest was chosen by Dingdong and the songs they will sing with him were especially selected by the singer-songwriter himself.
“Talking with my guests about the numbers we’ll be doing, and then discussing the details about these with my musical director Elmer Blancaflor and concert director Jay Klio Bermudez, already got us all so excited! We can’t wait to perform these for the audience on July 19,” Dingdong enthused.
