Manila, get ready to reignite the flame of your emo days! John Vesely, the mastermind behind the one-man band SECONDHAND SERENADE, is making his triumphant return to Manila.

The SECONDHAND SERENADE ASIA TOUR 2024 LIVE IN MANILA is scheduled for August 30, 2024, at the New Frontier Theater, and it promises to be a night brimming with nostalgia and raw emotion.

Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you, over agaaainโ€ฆ If these lyrics resonate with your soul and bring back memories of late-night listening sessions, then youโ€™re in for a treat. For fans who have spent countless hours with “Fall For You” on loop, dreaming with “Your Call,” or finding comfort in “Vulnerable,” this concert is a dream come true. John Veselyโ€™s voice and acoustic melodies have been the soundtrack to many of our lives, capturing the highs and lows of love and heartache.

In February 2024, John Vesely set social media ablaze by hinting at his Manila comeback on Instagram. He shared a throwback music video of his iconic song “Your Call,” sparking a flood of nostalgic comments. One fan eagerly wrote, โ€œVisit the Philippines, John!โ€ and Vesely’s reply, โ€œThis summer,โ€ accompanied by smiley emojis, sent waves of excitement through his dedicated fanbase. And now, after more than a decade since his last performance in Manila in 2012, heโ€™s ready to reconnect with his Filipino fans who have cherished his music for years.

SECONDHAND SERENADE began as John Veselyโ€™s solo project in Menlo Park, CA, in the early 2000s. With a self-produced acoustic album and a knack for building a loyal fanbase through MySpace, Vesely became the number one unsigned artist on the platform, leading to his multi-platinum success. Songs like “Fall For You” became anthems for the emo and indie scenes, striking a chord with listeners worldwide.

As we anticipate SECONDHAND SERENADEโ€™s performance, we’re reminded of the simplicity and power of his music. The acoustic strums and earnest lyrics have a way of speaking directly to our souls, inviting us to reflect on our own experiences of love and loss. • Eraserheads to Continue Huling El Bimbo World Tour this Year

Eraserheads to Continue Huling El Bimbo World Tour this Year

Following the success of Huling El Bimbo World Tour in 2023, the Eraserheads are set to embark on another tour this year including cities in North America, Singapore and Dubai. Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro are preparing to deliver another thrilling set of concerts to their fans overseas.

Their historic first reunion show was held at MOA Concert Grounds on December 22, 2022, garnering a staggering total of 75,000 people in the crowd. In 2023, the band proceeded to do a USA-Canada Tour which included cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Toronto. This year, the legendary OPM band will be revisiting some cities as well as adding new stops.

On June 19, the Eraserheads held their contract signing with their business partners which included WEU Event Management, DVent Productions, Tiana Ent. Inc, Live Nation Philippines, ABS-CBN Global. Shortly after, a press conference was held. They talked about their memories from the previous tour and what to expect from their upcoming tour. Here are the highlights of the event.

    Eheads Travel Prep

When asked about their travel essentials, each member had their own style.

Marcus readily answered with, โ€œI overpack. Itโ€™s better to overpack than to underpackโ€.

Ely, on the other hand, is a light traveler, bringing only the essentials plus 1 extra luggage for shopping. Buddy quipped, โ€œBerocca, Lola Remediosโ€ which made everyone laugh. โ€œAnything you can think of to keep you healthy and functioning.โ€

Raimund answered last, โ€œAng best na dinadala namin, si Ely nagturo niyan, yung portable bidet. Iyon ang huwag kakalimutan sa US tourโ€.

Each city gets an Easter Egg.

For fun, the Eraserheads also like to include Easter Eggs unique to each city they visit. Raimund explained that they played โ€œAmerican Womanโ€ by Guess Who, a song they used to play in college. Guess Who is a band from Winnipeg, but the song is more popularly known as a song by Lenny Kravitz. They also continue doing that for the upcoming tour.

    Most Memorable Show

When asked about which city was their favorite, Ely and Raimund answered New York, explaining that the crowdโ€™s energy was something special. Buddy also mentions their show at Los Angeles as he could feel that the crowd was very eager to hear their songs.

    (Mis)adventures on the Road

Their tour also became memorable because of the adventures they had before and after shows. Raimund fondly shared that there was an instance when they were stranded in the middle of the desert for hours because their bus broke down. They had also experienced logistical mishaps when half of their crew and their equipment were delayed due to a flight delay. They were worried whether they had to postpone the show, but their main reassurance to themselves was โ€œNakakatugtog ka nga sa Mayricโ€™s eh. Makakatugtog ka rin dito.โ€ Fortunately, their crew and their stuff arrived right before the show.

Choosing the Songs in the Setlist

The Eheads have their own groupchat wherein they discuss which songs to include in the setlist, around 40 in total which theyโ€™ll be cycling per stop. For this tour, Ely and Marcus mostly chose the songs. Ely elaborated, โ€œ80% is decided by the fans. 15% is decided by family and friends. (Tama ba yung math ko?) 5% is decided by the band.โ€ If the band were to choose 100% of the setlist, they would include deep cuts and obscure Eheads tracks that they want the world to know.

These B-sides have found their rightful place in their soundcheck sessions pre-concert. โ€œFor the soundcheck experience, we get to play songs that we love as a band. We do it during soundcheck because we know that the fans who pay for the VIP tickets will appreciate whatever we play.โ€

    Re-arrangement of the Songs

During their Huling El Bimbo concert in Manila in 2022, some of their songs were noticeably rearranged. How did this change come about?

Raimund said itโ€™s more of playing in a tempo theyโ€™re comfortable with. Since most of the songs were composed when they were very young. โ€œMas relaxed na kami, mas relaxed na iyong audience. We play it a little differently but I think itโ€™s still 90% halos iyon ang areglo. Hopefully, we play it a little better nowโ€, he explained.

Buddy backed this up, โ€œ Itโ€™s another way of saying that we play differently now. As older musicians, weโ€™ve learned different things through the years. Weโ€™ve also learned how to edit ourselves. We have a feeling of what we want to do on stage.โ€ Buddy added, โ€œAko napansin ko, Buddy plays less notes. I play more notes.โ€ Ely said he considers it a compliment that fans appreciate the way they play the songs now.

What has changed in the band?

It has been almost 2 years since they announced their reunion show in Manila. In the two years that they have been working together again, how has their dynamics changed?

Buddy answered, โ€œWeโ€™ve had several dinners under our belt. That way, we are kind of in touch with kung anong kinain ni Ely, kung anong inorder ni Marcus. It helps in our dynamic, sharing a dinner, having drinks, coffee โ€“ so weโ€™ve had more of that.โ€ Raimund chimed in โ€œbirthdays!โ€

As it turned, the band members had also celebrated their birthdays together. โ€œEver since then, weโ€™ve spent a lot more time together. Itโ€™s shaping our live show and itโ€™s keeping it fun,โ€ Buddy affirmed.

What are they looking forward to experiencing in this round of shows?

Raimund shared, โ€œItโ€™s the energy that the crowd gives you. Itโ€™s like itโ€™s the first time youโ€™re playing, I know some of these are really old songs, but itโ€™s the first time weโ€™re playing it to them and itโ€™s probably the first time theyโ€™re hearing it live. Thereโ€™s that energy that you canโ€™t replicate anywhere else.โ€

Ely quipped, โ€œItโ€™s also great to see young faces in the audience. They werenโ€™t even born back then. That means that the music still translates to the younger generation which is awesome because you know how theyโ€™re so hard to please now. Just kidding.โ€ Marcus added, โ€œThe music seems to be growing as well, nag-eevolve for the better, I think.โ€

Ely admitted that they wanted to re-record some of the songs in their catalog. โ€œNot so much we could own our masters, but because as artists, we found out that we could have done more with our songs,โ€ he clarified. โ€œSomething we look forward to as musicians is to become true to our profession and still apply the inspiration we were into back then when we were just starting out.

    More Eheads in 2024!

Besides the tour, there are more exciting things ahead for the Eraserheads this year, including the launch of the Huling El Bimbo Official Merch Site on June 21 and a film titled โ€œCombo on the Runโ€ which is currently on the final stage of post-production in Los Angeles. The trailer is set to debut at San Diego, California in July. The band also mentioned that they hope to perform live in more cities around the world.

Donโ€™t miss out! Be sure to catch the legendary OPM band with their classic hits at the following stops.

  • IU Reunites with MA-AENAs in Historic “HEREH” Concert at the Philippine Arena

IU Reunites with MA-AENAs in Historic “HEREH” Concert at the Philippine Arena

Five years ago, IU made her blueming debut on the Philippine concert stage with the 2019 IU TOUR CONCERT <LOVE, POEM> at The Big Dome. Five years later, the award-winning singer came back to her MA-AENAs to bring her first world tour, the 2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR CONCERT, to the Philippines.

As the Philippines welcomed the new month, IU also wrote a new chapter in Philippine concert history by being the first K-Pop solo artist and the second female solo act, after Katy Perry, to perform a solo show at the Philippine Arena, the world’s largest indoor arena.

The 2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR CONCERT, which began with four performances at Seoul’s KSPO Dome in March, arrived in the country on June 1 after successful stops in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. The artist returned to the local concert stage to the unmatched cheers of nearly 40,000 fans from all over the Philippines and the world, echoing loud and passionate throughout the arena.

IU put on an incredible show that showcased her artistry and musicality, with the concert divided into four main sections: hypnotic, energetic, romantic, and ecstatic. The production was innovative and immersive, bringing to life the emotions the singer aimed to evoke on stage and the stories she hoped to tell with each performance. Performing “Holssi” off her most recent album, The Winning, the singer kicked off the event. The show went on to feature her live performances of every song from her latest extended play, including “I Stan U,” “Shopper,” “Shh..”, and “Love Wins All.”

The 2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR CONCERT covered IU’s extensive career, which is highlighted by her catalog. The Philippines saw performances of songs from her past albums, including Growing Up (2009), Last Fantasy (2011), Modern Times (2013), A Flower Bookmark (2014), CHAT-SHIRE (2015), Palette (2017), Love Poem (2019), and Lilac (2021), in addition to The Winning. In response to fan requests, IU performed “Someday” from her original soundtrack for the 2011 drama Dream High and “You Know” from her first studio album Growing Up during the “en-encore,” which made everyone feel nostalgic.

SunKissed Lola’s “Pasilyo” was performed beautifully by IU as a present to MA-AENAs, and it left us in awe of the feelings and hues she added to the song. “When I first heard this song, I liked it a lot and practiced it. I was happy while singing this song,” she stated. She sang 28 songs in three hours total.

But it wasn’t just IU that was well prepared for the reunion. The MA-AENAs were there in full force to make sure the singer had the best possible concert experience and to remind her of the electrifying energy of the Filipino concertgoers. Indeed, all of the efforts were worthwhile, as IU expressed her gratitude for all of the love she received that night, showering the audience with approval and words of encouragement. She added, “I was very happy,” after the fan event at the “I Stan U” stage. She frequently expressed her awe at the fans’ enthusiasm and beautiful vocals as they joined in throughout the performance.

Ito ay langit! Mahal ko kayo,” she remarked, praising the fans’ lovely voices and thanked them for their support. She awarded the Filipino concertgoers 300 points, placing them at the top of the list. She said, “I’m really, really happy tonight. Napakasaya ko. Bawal magkasakit,” and mentioned how incredible the performance was. “It’s really the best day,” she stated, assuring that she would return as soon as possible rather than waiting another five years.

IU sang “Palette” to close the 2024 IU HEREH WORLD TOUR CONCERT, writing a new chapter in Philippine musical history. Above all, the performance demonstrated IU’s continual achievement and artistic development and her humility and genuineness, reverberating strongly with the unwavering dedication of MA-AENAs.

The thanksgiving event, which will feature acts by phenomenal Filipino music talents SB19, BINI, and Flow G, and a special performance by SunKissed Lola, celebrates Puregold’s remarkable milestone of reaching 500 stores on its 25th year. Through โ€œNasa Atin ang Panalo,โ€ Puregold expresses its gratitude to its loyal customers, dedicated employees, and supportive partners who have long played a role in the company’s very own panalo story.

As can be gleaned from Puregoldโ€™s recent announcement on its social media pages, the star-studded โ€œNasa Atin ang Panaloโ€ is set to be an unforgettable night of music, inspiration, and pure entertainment. This was affirmed by Puregold Price Club Inc. President Vincent Co who relates that from the get-go, they envisioned โ€œNasa Atin ang Panaloโ€ to be more than just a concert.

โ€œWe want it to be a heartfelt tribute to Filipino stories of grit, courage, change, and successโ€”panalo values that our concert artists possess and hope to inspire among their fellow Filipinos,” Co says. โ€œAnd we are excitedly presenting these top musicians not only to showcase their talent and spotlight local music, but to highlight the stories of SB19, BINI, Flow G, and SunKissed Lola as they pursue their dreams.โ€

Puregold shares why they have chosen to collaborate with these artists:

P-Pop idols SB19 weathered a roller-coaster journey, staying resilient to sustain their rise in the music industry.

BINI, the nation’s girl group, sings about youthful romance, fun, and empowerment. The group continually evolves to tell its stories in the most profound ways.

Flow G, now one of the icons in Philippine rap, has hurdled numerous challenges but has remained steadfast in his pursuit of hip-hop, relentlessly moving forward toward his goals.

Well-loved band SunKissed Lola, united by their passion for creating music, has transformed their dreams into reality, achieving success through their unwavering love for their craft.

โ€œNasa Atin ang Panaloโ€ promises to bring joy to A’Tins, Blooms, Dolores, and fans of Flow G. Surprise guests are also lined up to boost concert-goersโ€™ thrill and excitement.

Loyal Puregold customers can also look forward to Tita and Ninang Zones, where featured products and brands will offer a number of fun activities.

Fans and followers can also check out the venueโ€™s VIP Section where one can get the best view in the house; coliseum group photos that will capture moments with fellow fans celebrating the night together; and exclusive merchandise giveaways that will keep memories alive long after the event.

Additionally, as Puregold has teased the release of original music in partnership with these top artists, fans have more drops to look forward to as well.

Puregold is mounting the concert in collaboration with Wish 107.5, a partnership that has been instrumentalโ€”since 2021โ€”in discovering and highlighting OPM talents. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to promote and nurture local music artists through platforms that enable them to reach wider audiences.

As “Nasa Atin ang Panalo” draws near, Puregold encourages OPM enthusiasts, music lovers, and Puregold customers to witness the convergence of talent, passion, and pure Filipino pride in the musical event. Ticket mechanics will be announced soon on Puregold’s official channels.

  • Munimuni to stage โ€œAlegoryaโ€ concert at the UP Theater this July

Munimuni to stage โ€œAlegoryaโ€ concert at the UP Theater this July

The experimental folk quintet will be performing at the UP Theater for the first time, following the release of their sophomore album!

Filipino indie-folk collective Munimuni celebrates the release of their second full-length album, Alegorya with a major concert happening on July 20, 2024 (Saturday) at the prestigious UP Theater.

Aptly titled ALEGORYA: A Munimuni Concert, the highly anticipated show promises to deliver an audio-visual treat for the senses. The title of the concert is named after their latest release, which, according to the five-piece act, carries many strikingly different emotions and thoughts that don’t normally belong to a single collection of songs.

The critically acclaimed band considers this concert an era-defining milestone, integrating live performances with a chamber setup and a more intricate piece of storytelling. The most exciting part is how Munimuni puts careful thought into the order of the songs, and how they want the entire experience to be a worthwhile journey for their fans.

โ€œPractically, this one is the biggest so far in terms of audience, and the longest in terms of set list,โ€ Munimuni explains in a statement. โ€œCreatively, we aim to create an experience that mirrors the album’s inherent complexity.”

ALEGORYA: A Munimuni Concert serves as the bandโ€™s third major concert, following 2018โ€™s self-titled concert at the Music Museum and 2019โ€™s Kulayan Natin at Cine Adarna, UP Film Center. The live music offering aims to combine the intimacy and adventurousness of Munimuniโ€™s music with a grander scale in terms of ambition and scope, focusing on the albumโ€™s overarching theme of โ€œlooking at the world and our human selves a bit deeperโ€ and โ€œgoing beyond what is apparent on the surface.โ€

Munimuni shares, โ€œWe’re excited to perform at the UP Theater, not just because of the size and prestige of the venue, but also because it feels close to home. The band started in the UP Diliman campus, after all. Our goal for performing in large shows and smaller shows is the same, though. We really just want our songs to move people and somehow help them go through life with a sense of hope. For this concert, the goal stays the same, but we get to express it in a different way, which we take as an opportunity to grow as artists.โ€

ALEGORYA: A Munimuni Concert is presented by GNN Entertainment Productions and Munimuni. Tickets go on sale today at noon via bit.ly/alegorya or https://alegoryaconcert.helixpay.ph/.
