Beloved OPM band celebrates the release with an intimate Coffee Tour across Metro Manila and Antipolo
Acclaimed OPM band Moonstar88 returns with its newest single, “Kape Tayo,” available on all major digital streaming platforms beginning July 10. Comprised of Maysh Baay (vocals, guitars), Herbert Hernandez (guitars), and Bon Sundiang (drums), the band continues its tradition of heartfelt songwriting with a track that celebrates the beauty of slowing down and reconnecting with the people who matter most.
Inspired by the simple act of sharing coffee, “Kape Tayo” reflects on the quiet moments where genuine conversations often unfold. Whether catching up with an old friend, spending time with loved ones, or stepping away from the demands of everyday life, the song serves as an invitation to pause, listen, and be present.
For Moonstar88, the phrase “Kape tayo” has evolved beyond an invitation for coffee—it has become a way of saying, “I want to spend time with you.” Drawing from the band’s own experiences, the song captures the laughter, comfort, reflection, and healing found in shared conversations over a cup of coffee. Throughout the track, coffee becomes a silent witness to life’s milestones, dreams, celebrations, and even its most challenging moments, highlighting the value of meaningful human connection.
Musically, “Kape Tayo” embraces a warm, laid-back sound that mirrors the atmosphere of a cozy neighborhood café. The band intentionally approached the recording with a relaxed and intimate style, allowing each performance to feel natural and unhurried. Vocalist Maysh Baay even recorded several vocal takes while seated on the studio floor to capture the song’s quiet sincerity.
Adding further emotional depth is a lush string arrangement by Ria Osorio, whose live instrumentation enhances the song’s reflective tone. The track was produced by Rye Sarmiento of 6cyclemind and features songwriting contributions from Darwin Hernandez, resulting in a rich and heartfelt listening experience.
To mark the release, Moonstar88 is embarking on the “Kape Tayo” Coffee Tour, a series of intimate acoustic performances in cafés across Metro Manila and Antipolo. Rather than traditional concert venues, the band chose coffee shops that embody the spirit of the song—spaces where music, conversation, and community naturally come together.
Fans will have the opportunity to experience “Kape Tayo” live in the intimate settings that inspired its creation before the tour culminates at the Manila Coffee Festival 2026 at SM Megamall on July 18, where coffee enthusiasts and music fans will gather for a special celebration of the new single.
