Pentatonix, one of the foremost a cappella outfits of our time, is back with their new album. Based in Arlington, Texas, the five-person a cappella outfit Pentatonix are best known for getting first place in the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC in 2011.

Established by high school pals Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi and Kirstie Maldonado, the ensemble initially got started after their rendition of Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone,” developed for a local contest related to the TV show Glee, started getting considerable YouTube attention. The group then added members Kevin Olusola and Avi Kaplan, renamed themselves Pentatonix and tried out for The Sing-Off. Known for their completely unique sound, which comprises of their sundry of self-shaped vocal arrangements, percussion and beatboxing, the band have risen from relative YouTube fame to worldwide recognition.

The band rapidly found a huge fan base, releasing a slew of successful cover albums including various volumes of their PTX series, promoting them via social media. In 2015, they delivered a fourth studio album which diverted from their initial path to success – the record was packed with all-original material, and received rave reviews. From their cameo role in Pitch Perfect 2. Pentatonix has won two Grammys — both for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, for “Daft Punk” in 2015 and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” in 2016.

Don’t miss out on this pioneering vocal quintet when they arrive in Manila this September.
