Not A Common Cold: Tiny Moving Parts Live In Manila 2020

What makes a performance — big or small — successful is a confluence of all its elements. Also, a performance makes it all special when it overcomes adversities and shortcomings.

Last February 9, Tiny Moving Parts made their way back to the Manila stage at a time when traveling between countries has suddenly become a great big question mark.

Fans got their quick health checks and even the organizers gave out free face masks to quell anxieties from any coronavirus/COVID-19 scare — which is something commendable from PULP Live World and worthy of emulation from all other concert and events organizers.

The self-described family band went on stage with a singular goal of melting their fans’ minds and hearts with a scorcher of a set.

Dylan Mattheisen was as effervescent as ever, and it was as if the entire energy of the room emanated from him. His cousins Matt and William Chevalier provided the steadiness of an aircraft carrier from which Dylan can launch his blistering guitar licks and lyrical outbursts.

Fans showed how much a family they are as well, singing back and joshing along, always on cue. The night has a sense of solidarity between the band, the fans, the organizers — just everyone —that seemingly said “We’re going to make this gig awesome no matter what.”

And they did make that night awesome.

#1 New Album = New Tracks

Tiny Moving Parts just released their latest album breathe last September. It just follows that we’re expecting a different set list from the last time they were here.

Will outstanding tracks like “Vertebrae” and “Midwest Sky” from the new album come up and become set staples? How about “Icicles (Morning Glow)” and “Bloody Nose”(like they said in this Pulp interview)? Will they keep playing memorable tracks “Always Focused” and “Caution”? Which songs won’t we hear again from last time? The suspense!

#2 New merch to add to the collection!

With the new album comes new merch! One of the best thing about PULP Live World’s events is the array of artist merch available for fans. We might be seeing cool items like the breathe vinyl record, hoodies, headgear, and more at the merch booth!

Have you seen the other cool things from the band? Check out their website www.tinymovingparts.com and hope they are selling them on gig day!

#3 New experience to add to your life’s best moments!

Tiny Moving Parts’ gigs vary from the intimate to the wild to a mix of both! For those who have yet to see the band play live, you will definitely be in for a pleasant surprise of energy and intensity from the trio. For those who will see them again this February, you will be treated to new songs and a repeat performance from a returning band who enjoyed their first gig here in Manila.

How about you, what are you excited about Tiny Moving Parts this February? – PTT

Tiny Moving Parts To Return To Manila For A Concert In 2020

After their memorable first show in the Philippines in 2018, Minnesota’s Tiny Moving Parts are making their way to Manila with fresh tunes. PULP live World and Skesh Entertainment proudly present Tiny Moving Parts Live in Manila 2020, happening on February 9, 2020 at the SM City North EDSA Skydome.

With the release of their brand new album breathe, Tiny Moving Parts are set to deliver another show that’s every bit the energetic set that their fans enjoy from start to finish. Newly signed by Hopeless Records, the trio (composed of brothers Matt and Bill Chevalier, along with their cousin Dylan Mattheisen) are indeed breathing new life to their music, five full-length albums into a career that has lasted for over a decade now.

“This record covers things we’ve talked about in the past — the fear of dying, losing someone through moving away, or the passing of someone — but it concentrates more on the positives, and being happy things happened instead of sad they’re taken away,” shares vocalist/guitarist Dylan Mattheisen in a press release. “It’s about finding that mindset to keep powering through.”

breathe was written on the road, in between tours they have carried out in support of their previous record, Swell, which came out January 2018. Moving forward sonically and emotionally with breathe, they have delivered through this album the same emotionally-drive blend of math-rock, pop-punk, and emo, but not without expanding their sound.

“We’re not trying to do anything, we’re just playing music. And if they label us, they label us. It’s not like it bothers us. They’re gonna call us something,” drummer Billy Chevalier tells PULP Magazine in an exclusive interview, reflecting on how their music is described by the public. “We always want to keep it interesting and keep it different, unique,” Dylan Mattheisen adds. “We love sing-along parts, but we also live chaotic craziness, so it’s just trying to find a blend of what we all love about music… whatever feels right, we do it.”

With vivid flashbacks of their frenetic first Manila show in September 2018, the thought of having them back in town for an even more insane show is nothing short of exciting. “We are so freaking excited to come back to Asia! Last year was our first time and it was absolutely incredible. We love our fans over there and can’t wait to party again with everyone,”shares Dylan, excited to be coming back to this side of the world. Last year’s Manila gig, also powered by PULP Live World, was the biggest of the band’s entire 2018 Asia Tour, and fans can look forward to an even bigger show when they return. If you’ve been waiting for a slight break, this show surely could not have come at a better time.
