Core Memories Unlocked: A Beautiful Day with Jang Ki Yong

South Korean actor Jang Ki Yong went back to the Philippines after 5 years to meet his Filipino fans once again through his fan meet tour, Beautiful Day, last September 28, 2024, at the Samsung Hall SM Aura Premier. The actor, prominent for his latest dramas, quickly rose to fame through his modeling and acting career and became one of the most sought-after leading men of his generation.

Jang Ki Yong opened his show with a song, after which he greeted his beloved fans. He said that he loves the Philippines so much and he missed his fans a lot, thanking them for coming to his meeting. Fans were touched when the actor told the crowd that he saved the best for last, with Manila being the last stop for his fan meet tour. He shared his sentiments for this stop, and he had mixed emotions during his rehearsals here in Manila.

The fan meet activities began with the segment Beautiful Diary, where Jang Ki Yong took a trip down memory lane with the best moments of his life. Among those moments, he talked about his Manila fan meeting back in 2019, his previous projects, military enlistment, service, and discharge, the vacations and solo trips he took, his first musical, and his most recent project. He also asked his fans for some recommendations for tourist spots here in the country like Siargao, Balesin, and Aman Pulo. He also shared about his solo trip to Hawaii to participate in a marathon and how much he enjoyed spending time in nature and solace.

Jang Ki Yong never forgot to interact with his beloved fans through the next segments — Beautiful Hero, where fans got to reenact scenes from his recently concluded drama, Atypical Family, and pose for an Instax photo, Beautiful Wish, where the actor fulfilled his fans’ wishes, such as doing a morning call in Tagalog, pose with 5 kinds of heart poses for a photo, and dancing on a Kpop challenge, to the tune of NCT 127’s Walk, Beautiful Memories, where he picked and read questions and requests of fans written on sticky notes, and Beautiful Zone, where he played with fans for an upgrade of fan benefit from hi-bye to hi-touch. The fans surely enjoyed their time with him during these segments, ultimately giving a one-of-a-kind fan experience.

Filipino fans gave Jang Ki Yong a cake onstage, with his supporters saying that they knew he was fond of UFC, which was the cake’s design theme. He posed for the camera with his fans and watched a fan-made video tribute for him, with a compilation of his fans’ messages for the actor. “The time was brief, but I enjoyed spending it with my fans,” he said as he felt the overwhelming love, positivity, and support he received from his loving fans. He said he felt the warm energy as the fans welcomed him again in the Philippines. He shares his plans as an actor to do his best and meet and greet his fans through his projects.

    Jang Ki Yong

Jang Ki Yong hopes his fans will continue to look forward to his new projects, as he is currently shooting a new drama, Pigpen. Surely, there’s a lot he’ll be showing to his fans and wishes them to stay healthy. “Next time we see each other, let’s have the brightest smiles.”

  • Timeless World, Endless Memories: ZEROBASEONE in Manila

Timeless World, Endless Memories: ZEROBASEONE in Manila

On October 12, 2024, Manila became the heart of ZEROBASEONE’s TIMELESS tour.

Fans filled every corner of the SM Mall of Asia Arena, but the excitement in the air was different. Manila was the most recent stop on the 2024 ZEROBASEONE THE FIRST TOUR [TIMELESS WORLD], and what unfolded was nothing short of spectacular. This night wasn’t just about music. It was about the connection between ZB1 and PH ZEROSE, one that felt as if time paused, just for them.

    ZEROBASEONE

The show opened with a captivating VCR that drew everyone into ZEROBASEONE’s world. Moments later, the group exploded onto the stage with Solar POWER, Road Movie, Take My Hand, New Kidz on the Block, and KILL THE ROMEO. Right from the start, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be just another night. ZB1’s energy was off the charts, and the crowd matched them at every beat.

The first talk of the night gave a glimpse into the members’ excitement. Ricky, making up for missing the Asia Artist Awards last year, shared how thrilled he was to finally see PH ZEROSE. Yujin couldn’t help but talk about his excitement for local dishes like adobo, while Taerae had Jollibee’s burger on his mind. A playful teaser from Jiwoong and Taerae sent the crowd into a frenzy before they launched into CRUSH.

One of the evening’s highlights was an interactive VCR where Zhanghao was shown to have “shrunk” in size and the boys of ZEROBASEONE are finding ways to make him return to his original size. Fans were drawn into the fun as they helped bring Hao back to normal size, cheering on the screen. It was a lighthearted break before the next wave of performances hit.

    ZEROBASEONE

As the boys shifted to their bubblegum pop set, performing In Bloom, Insomnia, and Good Night in casual outfits, the atmosphere softened but never lost its magic. The intimacy between ZEROBASEONE and their ZEROSE was palpable, especially when the members split into sub-units. Zhang Hao, Jiwoong, Matthew, Ricky, and Gunwook showcased both their charm and charisma with Always and Over Me, while Hanbin, Taerae, Gyuvin, and Yujin lifted the mood with the bright and upbeat Switch. As the group came together for En Garde, the stage felt like an arena of memories in the making.

The concert’s lighter moments came during their second talk, where the youngest, Yujin, and Gunwook’s aegyo antics delighted the crowd. Even the eldest, Jiwoong, wasn’t spared from the playful pressure to showcase his cute side. Fans, of course, reveled in every second of it.

As the night progressed, the boys threw it back to their Boys Planet roots with Say My Name and Here I Am, before diving into darker, more intense performances like Dear ECLIPSE and Hot Summer. The energy only heightened as the group rolled through SWEAT, Kidz Zone, Feel the POP, and a charged encore of GOOD SO BAD—thanks to the endless chants from PH ZEROSE for “one more time!”, looping the song as if it has no end.

But what truly made this night unforgettable was the moment PH ZEROSE took the spotlight. With the arena glowing in white and blue, fans waved their banners and sang along to Our Season. It was a visual and emotional display of the deep connection between the group and their fans, a moment that felt as timeless as the tour’s name suggests.

As the night drew to a close, the boys returned to the stage for their final songs, decked out in their TIMELESS WORLD merch. With tracks like YURA YURA, And I, and Sunday RIDE, the concert hit its final notes, but the emotions lingered, especially during their last song, HELLO, where Gyuvin was seen with teary eyes, saying that he will never forget the cheers they all received during the concert, making Manila stop a core memory for him.

  • REQUEST sa RADYO — PAG ASA!

REQUEST sa RADYO — PAG ASA!

Internationally acclaimed actress and BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated Dolly De Leon had a sit-down interview with the members of the media ahead of their play Request sa Radyo.

Dolly revealed that she first became interested in the play last year due to its focus on mental health, a topic she holds dear. She shared that she decided to accept the play immediately, without consulting her team or anyone else. She hopes that the play will raise awareness about mental health and the misconception that people who appear happy are actually not. So, the hope is that it opens people’s eyes and mouths and makes them sensitive.

“We need to have a little empathy and improve sensitivity and kindness so that we make everyone’s lives more living.”

“I can only hope that people, especially those who have relatives working abroad, will be overly empathetic and more sensitive to what they are going through.” The play aims to promote understanding that people may carry inner struggles despite outward appearances.

Request sa Radyo (Wunschkonzert/Request Program) is Franz Xaver Kroetz’s landmark theatrical piece that captures the poignant solitude of a woman through her meticulous evening routine. This masterpiece transforms the mundane into a powerful exploration of isolation and the human condition. This unique theatrical experience transforms the mundane into the extraordinary through silence and leaves you contemplating the depths of solitude long after the curtain falls. Dolly shared she relates to the character of Miss Reyes, but their lives differ as Miss Reyes doesn’t have children or an immediate family.

The play is the coming together of some of the country’s (and world’s) bests. All multi-awarded and all considered sources of Philippine pride, this project delves on their vision and dedication in bringing the powerful and compelling narrative to the Philippine audience.

As an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), Dolly expressed her desire for every Filipino residing overseas to have access to a community of mental health experts for collective consultation. Featuring Tony and Olivier winner Lea Salonga and Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee Dolly De Leon, two of the most internationally celebrated actors of their generation, ‘Request Sa Radyo’ is the can’t-miss event in international theater in 2024.

PULP Live World is thrilled to announce that Last Dinosaurs, the beloved Australian indie-rock band, will be making their much-awaited return to Manila for their LAST DINOSAURS LIVE IN MANILA concert on December 8, 2024, at the Skydome, SM City North EDSA. This performance is set to be a dream come true for fans who have been eagerly requesting their return to the Philippines.

    Last Dinosaurs

The Brisbane-based band, formed in 2007, is composed of Sean Caskey (Lead/Backup Vocals, Rhythm/Lead Guitar), Lachlan Caskey (Lead/Backup Vocals, Lead/Rhythm Guitar), Danjuro Koyama (Drums), and Michael Sloane (Bass). Their story began when Sean and Dan met in high school and bonded over their shared love for music. Over the years, Last Dinosaurs has grown into one of the most distinctive and dynamic indie bands in the scene, captivating audiences worldwide with their catchy hooks, intricate guitar work, and infectious energy.

Last Dinosaurs first made waves in the music scene with the release of their debut EP, Back from the Dead in 2010. Their blend of indie-rock with electronic and dance influences garnered the attention of Australian media, with outlets like Triple J offering praise for their unique sound. It wasn’t long before the band found themselves on the radar of major music festivals and embarking on tours that took them beyond Australia’s shores. Their debut studio album, In a Million Years (2012), solidified their position in the indie music landscape, with tracks like “Zoom” and “Honolulu” becoming instant fan favorites. The success of their debut allowed them to expand their fanbase, receiving critical acclaim not only from Australia but also from international audiences. In 2015, the band continued their musical journey with their second album, Wellness, which featured standout singles such as “Evie” and “Apollo.” These tracks became anthems for indie lovers, and the album further showcased their ability to craft songs that blend introspective lyrics with danceable melodies. Their evolution continued with the release of their third album, Yumeno Garden (2018). This album marked a period of experimentation for the band, introducing new sonic elements while retaining the signature Last Dinosaurs vibe that their fans had come to love. Singles like “Dominos” and “Eleven” demonstrated their range as they continued to explore new thematic and musical territories.

Fast forward to 2023-2024, and Last Dinosaurs has reached new heights with their latest ambitious project: KYORYU. This 13-song concept album is unlike anything the band has done before, taking listeners on a sonic journey through a futuristic universe. The album explores existential themes and presents an immersive narrative experience, blending experimental soundscapes with the band’s signature indie-rock style. The album was introduced through two transmission-style videos on YouTube, offering fans a glimpse into the interconnected stories of RYU and KYO, two EPs that serve as the foundation of the KYORYU project. Each EP is accompanied by manga stories that flesh out the characters and storyline further. RYU and KYO are short for the middle names of Sean and Lachlan—Ryusuke and Kyohei—which adds a personal and cultural layer to the project. Interestingly, “KYORYU” translates to “dinosaur” in Japanese, a fitting title for a band that continues to evolve while paying homage to their roots.

The KYORYU project not only pushes the boundaries of indie-rock music but also invites fans into an expansive and imaginative universe, with each song adding new layers to the album’s overarching narrative.

This Manila concert promises to be a showcase of this epic musical journey, as the band brings KYORYU and fan-favorite tracks from their previous albums to life on stage. For indie-rock fans in the Philippines, this is your chance to witness Last Dinosaurs live in action! Expect a night filled with high-energy performances, electric guitar riffs, and captivating visuals. With their blend of nostalgic indie-rock sounds and futuristic storytelling, Last Dinosaurs’ concert is sure to leave a lasting impression.

    Asiya Conference 2024

ASIYA—a new Asian music festival and conference experience by KARPOS, the team behind the annual Wanderland Music & Arts Festival in the Philippines—is proud to announce the first edition of “Music Beyond Borders: Navigating Global Markets and Festival Opportunities” conference program, a first-of-its-kind instructive experience designed to elevate Asian music artists and industry professionals to global
competitiveness, on October 12 and 13 at World Trade Center Metro Manila.

The two-day program—which includes a Spotify masterclass, a keynote about the future of the live music experience and innovating programs and practices to advancing music culture, and four panel discussions that will explore key international markets and festivals—will take place before the festival performances from 20 of the most sought-after and exciting acts from the Philippines and across Asia.

Leading minds in the global music industry

“Music Beyond Borders” will feature a series of educational and artist-focused career development talks and speeches by leaders from the international music industry. Kicking off the conference on the first day will be Chesca Tan, Lead Editor for Southeast Asia, and Thea Madrideo, Artist & Label Partnerships Lead for Spotify, who will conduct a masterclass for music artists, a valuable learning opportunity for career-building, as well as maximizing the streaming platform’s offerings and local campaigns, among others.

A keynote discussion between KARPOS’ John Uy and Marta Pallares Olivares of Barcelona, Spain-based diversified music powerhouse Primavera Sound titled “Plug and Played Out: Better Live Music For All – A Conversation With Primavera Sound” will provide a behind-the-scenes look at organizing a world-renowned music festival, discuss the state and future of live music and how to foster a rich music culture and empower artists beyond live music opportunities.

Music artists, industry professionals, enthusiasts, and fans alike will get the chance to have access to rare insights on key, coveted music markets and festivals around the world through four panel discussions featuring speakers with expertise and first-hand, tenured experience in the music business.

“Beyond the Pops: Unpacking East Asia” will delve into the vibrant and diverse world of non-mainstream music in Asia’s largest and most popular music markets. On the panel are Weining Hung of 9Kick and LUCfest (Taiwan), Subhin Jang of Busan Rock Festival (South Korea), Shun Ebihara of Summer Sonic and Creativeman Productions (Japan), and Natsagdorj ‘George’ Tserendorj of Playtime Music Festival (Mongolia). Moderating the discussion is cultural journalist and musician Mariah Reodica (The Buildings).

The “New Favorites: Southeast Asia” panel will examine the rich musical culture of Southeast Asia, addressing how the region can break through the “trigger cities” barrier and elevate its presence on the global stage. Mak Wai Hoo of City ROARS! Festival (Malaysia), Kukuh Rizal Arfianto of Sun Eater and Jakarta Music Con (Indonesia), David Siow of AXEAN Festival and Steady State Records (Singapore), and Thailand’s Poom Piyasu Komaradat of Seen Scene Space and Maho Rasop Festival alongside Ted Yuthana of GMM Thailand, Big Mountain Music Festival, and Monster Music Festival. Jorge Wieneke—musician and co-founder of Manila-based BuwanBuwan Collective, Manila Community Radio, Doppla!, Kindred Music, Apotheka, Cosmic Sonic Arts, and Terminal Dogma—will serve as moderator.

Learning about the realities on the ground on the other side of the globe, “The Big West: A Basic Introduction to Music Markets in Europe and the Americas” will offer attendees a practical, nuanced look at the world’s second-largest music market. Sharing their insights are Dijana Lakus of Prague Music Week (Czech Republic), Carmen Barahona of En Orbita Festival (Chile), Russian independent artist booker Galina Metelskaya, Cils Williams of ATC Live Agency in (UK), and Daniel Ha of KOHAI (US). Musician Diego Castillo (Sandwich) will be moderating this exciting panel.

Lastly, “Standby Then Standout: Festival-Readiness for Artists” gives an unprecedented guide to artists on how to best equip themselves for international stages and for those seeking festival performance opportunities. Offering a practical approach and their own experiences in following artist journeys from small venues to massive outdoor festival are industry veterans Cora Chan of Clockenflap (Hong Kong), Sarun ‘Top’ Pinyarat of Maho Rasop Festival (Thailand), Johnnie Moylett of Fuji Rock Festival (Japan), and Dewi Gontha of Java Jazz in Indonesia. Musician Jim Baccaro of Cheats will moderate the session.

    More than just music

ASIYA’s conference program incorporates a valuable addition to the experience of live music fans: a deeper, more thoughtful understanding of music—the people who make it, how it happens, and those who make it happen.

“Over the years, I think the work we’ve been doing at KARPOS has been focused on bridging the gap between artists and their audiences through our festivals and live shows.

But there is still so much more that can be done: from showcasing our homegrown talents and opening them up to international opportunities to creating connections for those who want to take part in the world and business of music. In all that, I hope ASIYA can be a good start,” says John Uy, President & CEO of KARPOS.

Uy hopes that ASIYA will benefit not just the local music community but international music industry leaders who will be able “to experience and learn about our music scene” firsthand.

Tickets for the “Music Beyond Borders” conference program are now available at PHP3,850 for both days (inclusive of ticket charges). ASIYA festival ticket holders who purchased passes from August 15 to September 25 can avail of a discounted rate of PHP 3,000.

    “A love-fuelled exercise in resilience” NME ★★★★

Coldplay’s highly-anticipated tenth album, Moon Music has landed in stores and on streaming services today. The album can be purchased / downloaded / streamed here.

Moon Music, which was produced by Max Martin, contains August’s iTunes chart-topping single WE PRAY – with Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna & TINI – and June’s double MTV VMAs-nominated single feelslikeimfallinginlove, which reached Number 1 on both the UK’s airplay chart and the Official Big Top 40. A third single, All My Love, is released alongside the album, with a video filmed at a Las Vegas karaoke bar premiering later today.

Chris Martin recently posted a video offering some insight into the album, saying: “I think what this album is about is a response to struggling with all the conflict within oneself, within myself, and also all the conflict outside, and working out what the best response is. And I think what Moon Music is trying to say is maybe love is the best response.”

Moon Music was given its worldwide premiere on Monday at the Moon Saloon in Moon, Wisconsin, followed by a worldwide listening event in cinemas on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The band will celebrate the release of the album with a performance on tomorrow night’s Saturday Night Live, followed by a special concert on Monday for Sirius XM at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. They will then perform live on the TODAY Plaza for NBC’s TODAY Show on Monday.

NEW FORMATS AND NEW SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS

In tandem with Coldplay’s ground-breaking sustainability measures on their current world tour – which has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour – the band have gone to great lengths to make the physical release of Moon Music as sustainable as possible.
This is the world’s first album released as a 140g EcoRecord rPET LP, with each copy made from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste.
Additionally, the band have collaborated with long-time partners The Ocean Cleanup to create an additional format: the Notebook Edition LP. The rPET for this edition comprises 70% river plastic, intercepted by The Ocean Cleanup from the Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala, and prevented from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean.
The standard CD editions of Moon Music will be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams.
In an effort to reduce waste, the first edition run of Moon Music (both EcoRecord LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and produced at a higher specification than any future editions. All First Edition EcoRecord LP products will be individually numbered.
Moon Music is Coldplay’s first album since 2021’s Music Of The Spheres, which spawned the US Number One single with BTS, My Universe, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Music Of The Spheres has accumulated more than four billion streams.
