Robots lost their freedom. Humans lost connection. An orphan, a smuggler, and a missing boy may be the key to saving everything.
The first trailer for The Electric State, a new Netflix sci-fi adventure with Chris Pratt, Millie Bobby Brown, and robots that can think and feel has been released. According to a Netflix summary, the movie, which was produced by the Russo Brothers and comes out March 14, 2025, is set in a retro-futuristic version of the 1990s and follows Brown’s character Michelle. In the clip, Keats, played by Pratt, is a drifter who goes with Michelle to the American Southwest to help her find her younger brother. See the trailer below.
Millie Bobby Brown portrays the role of Michelle, a young woman who lives in this post-apocalyptic civilization as she tries to reconnect with her missing brother through a robot. To traverse the desert and locate her brother, she enlists the aid of a smuggler called Keats (Pratt), who she meets along the way and learns the truth about his abduction.
A star-studded ensemble including Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, and Brian Cox round out the stellar group of robot voices. The Electric State is based on Simon Stålenhag’s 2018 graphic book of the same name.
Global icons ROSÉ and Bruno Mars have released new single “APT.” – available now via Atlantic Records/THEBLACKLABEL alongside an official music video directed by Daniel Ramos and Bruno Mars.
“‘APT.’ is actually my favorite Korean drinking game that I play with my friends back home. It’s so simple, puts a smile on your face, and breaks the ice at any party,” ROSÉ explains. “One night in the studio I taught my crew how to play the game. Everyone was fascinated, especially when I started the chant, so we played around with it and I said we should make a song out of it… and after Bruno joined the track, the rest became history!”
“APT.” (produced by Bruno Mars, Cirkut, Omer Fedi & Rogét Chahayed) is the lead single off ROSÉ’s first studio album rosie, arriving December 6th and available for pre-order now (link). The 12-track collection marks ROSÉ’s most personal and candid release to date with her co-writing the project in its entirety, including “APT.”
As a member of BLACKPINK, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, ROSÉ has shattered records, performed on the most heralded stages, and amassed millions of fans around the world. On her own, the Korean-New Zealand superstar’s 2021 single “On The Ground” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart and became the highest-charting song by a solo K-pop female on the Billboard Hot 100.
Simultaneously, ROSÉ has been an unstoppable force in fashion as global ambassador for renowned brands including Saint Laurent, Tiffany & Co, Rimowa and Puma. Her influence in music, fashion and philanthropy has proven her to be a testament to the growth of Korean influence in music and fashion on a global scale.
Just as there are the basic ABCs to learn in school to educate oneself, there are also the ABCs of Music that every amateur and professional musician, singer/performer and serious Music enthusiast should know and learn to fully appreciate what the Art of Music is all about.
In the world of Music and Entertainment, the works of the great Musical masters are the ABCs by which every budding performer should learn and be familiar with as these are “required songs to learn” to build a strong musical foundation.
Following on the heels of the success of her first ABC Concert last August 2024 and her successful US shows, Ms. KUH LEDESMA, the Philippines’ Premier Pop Diva will once again enthrall her audience with the staging of KUH SINGS HER ABC’s live at the Music Museum on October 18, 2024. Whether it should be called a Repeat Performance or a Part 2, one thing’s for sure, Kuh promises to keep her audience in suspense as to what songs she’ll be performing this time around.
Maybe some songs from the first ABC Concert as well as new songs that have been specially selected for this upcoming October 18 Concert.
Whatever the Concert’s repertoire will be it’s certainly worth looking forward to.
Joining Kuh for this October 18 Concert are up-and-coming singers TIM PAVINO, NATHAN RANDAL, DAVID YOUNG, and Kuh’s daughter ISABELLA. For people who’ll be watching the Concert for the first time though, they would curiously ask – what are the ABCs of Music?? The A’s could mean the Music of Adelle, Azarcon, America, and Apo. The B’s could be a Barbra, Bocelli, and even Bamboo. And the C’s could be a Canseco, Cayabyab, Carpenters, Cyrus, and of course Celine. And the list can be an endless stream of history’s greatest singers and composers. That’s why when Kuh sings“ABC”, the songs to be featured in the show could be any song from A to C plus many many more. So expect new surprises along the way.

Fans of the popular Thai GL (Girls’ Love) duo, “Lingling” Sirilak Kwong and “Orm” Kornnaphat Sethratanapong were treated to a night full of fan service, laughter, and love. The pair graced the Smart-Araneta Coliseum with their presence on Sunday, October 6, 2024, for their first fan meeting in Manila, “Dear My Love: Ling & Orm.”
The pair, famously known as LingOrm, starred in the Netflix series, “The Secret of Us.” Upon its premiere in June 2024, it quickly climbed Netflix’s ranks and secured the #2 spot in the Philippines.
PART ONE
After an energetic opening song performance, the girls sat for the first segment interview. When asked about the first thing they did when they landed in the Philippines, they enthusiastically talked about their experience with Jollibee. “That Jollibee [mascot] made me [impressed]!” re-called Ling, “I thought he [was] just a figure,” implying that she didn’t know he was a mascot.
When their series, “The Secret of Us” was brought up, they answered that they were excited when they filmed their first GL series. Ling complimented Orm by saying, “It’s good because she’s (Orm) always supporting me. All of the [filming] process was good,” rousing applause from their fans. “We have been to a lot of workshops, so I think that made us closer, and it made the acting natural,” Orm added.
Fans were also given a peek at some behind-the-scenes memories during the filming of their series including their eating habits on set and how Orm always snuck some sleep whenever there was chance.
Due to the success of their first series, they already have a next project lined up, which is “Only You,” an action-packed love story series. Ling plays Tawan, a bodyguard tasked with protecting Ira, a rising idol portrayed by Orm. Fans in the crowd expressed their deep excitement as the duo talked about how excited they were for this next project.
After the interview, they played a short game, copying the poses of the movie posters that were flashed on the screen including Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Knight & Day, and their very own poster for Only You.
PART TWO
Lingling started the second part of the fan meeting by serenading the fans with her cover of Carpenters’ Yesterday Once More. Orm followed next with her energetic version of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space.
And a fan meeting wouldn’t be complete without a direct interaction with the fans. For this segment, “Secret Genius,” they picked two people from the audience to play and team up with Ling and Orm for a “Pinoy Henyo” type of game where the team had to guess as many words (related to The Secret of Us series) as they can to win. When the losing team, Team Ling had to do the punishment, Orm decided it would be for Ling to kiss Orm’s head which Ling easily obliged, no sweat.
The highlight of the night was the “Secret Theater” segment where the duo had to re-enact scenes from the series that were chosen by the audience. These scenes are all the intimate and sweet parts of the series. Ling and Orm did all four of the scenes with so much ardor. The first one was the scene where they first met after their break up. The second was the proposal scene where Ling had a real bouquet as a prop, and the third one which garnered such uproar from the fans was where Orm had to teasingly take a bite of the cookie in Ling’s mouth. The last one was the iconic hugging scene from the “Only You” trailer.
The love Ling and Orm radiated to their fans was reciprocated when they sat down to watch a surprise video prepared by the fans. Both were very touched. “The best thing for me is that we could inspire all of you. We hope that we can be your positive energy. When you’re down, we’re glad that we could help you from that, and I hope that we can stay together forever!” commented Orm.
The event ended on a high note where MVP, VIP, and some of the Patron and Lower Box A ticket holders had a chance to take group photos with LingOrm. MVP and VIP ticket holders were also treated to a Hi-Bye event after the photo op.
This successful event, the “Dear my Love: Ling & Orm 1st Fan Meeting in Manila” was organized and presented by S9T and CDM Entertainment Philippines.

“If American pop is a musical language that has conquered the world, Niki still finds her Indonesian roots within it, and has delighted in playing to audiences of Asians and Asian Americans who have thanked her for representing them.” –The New York Times
“If NIKI’s last album, Nicole, kept big emotions at bay with an atmospheric pop mood, it seems like the forthcoming Buzz will shake everything loose.” -NPR
“‘Buzz’ is familiar yet fresh, a comforting hug wrapped in the excitement of new possibilities” –Dork
“88rising‘s leading lady is gearing up for what looks to be a promising new album.” –UPROXX
Jakarta-born, LA-based singer-songwriter and producer NIKI firmly plants herself as one of the most dynamic artists of today with the release of her new album Buzz via 88rising, out now. Accompanying the release is the music video for title track “Buzz”, directed by Isaac Ravishankara. The video, a cheeky line-by-line depiction of the lyrics, encapsulates the rush of raw emotion and bittersweet nerves of a budding romance – glimpses of buzzing bees, a crackling guitar amp, and longing looks between two people, all signaling towards the start of something new. NIKI was initially inspired to name the record after the budding growth she observed in her garden every spring. Across thirteen tracks on the album, the singer encapsulates the feeling of being on the precipice of something undiscovered.
The album’s release joins previous singles; the love struck summer track, “Tsunami,” astrologically-inspired song “Blue Moon,” and flirty lead single “Too Much of a Good Thing.” NIKI plans to celebrate Buzz on with a comprehensive fall world tour. Tickets may be purchasedHERE. See below for full routing.

What eventually became Buzz, the third studio album by singer-songwriter and globally-renowned star NIKI, started with an urgent quake from the innermost core of her being. What surfaced in its wake was a collection of warm, stirring folk-rock songs, which crackle and flare like a bonfire between close confidantes. “I went through an identity crisis,” says the 25-year-old of Buzz. “It took a lot of trial and error, and I just stumbled upon pieces of myself along the way. I named it Buzz because it feels like I’m on the precipice of something about to happen.”
For NIKI, things have been happening progressively since she was a high schooler in Jakarta, Indonesia. As a student at an international academy, she cut her teeth scribbling lovesick poems in English class and performed acoustic guitar covers of American pop songs on YouTube. With a six-string in hand, and her family and classmates cheering her on from the audience, Nicole Zefanya then staked her claim to global stardom as NIKI.
And claim it she has – with over three billion streams worldwide, sold out shows on multiple continents, massive sets at festivals across the globe, front row seats at Paris Fashion Week, four songs on a Marvel film’s soundtrack, and some of the most phenomenal, confessional songs being released in 2024, NIKI has already established a veteran’s resume before the age of 25.
On Buzz, her songwriting remains as intimate as ever. In her initial sketches of songs for Buzz, NIKI took cues from other lane-paving women with confessional, honest lyricism soundtracked by guitars. “Joni Mitchell is my songwriting north star,” she says — and uncompromising feminist luminaries like Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon and Liz Phair. To match the wandering spirit of Buzz, NIKI cultivated her own elastic approach to guitar.
To further harness this creative and personal sea change, NIKI began enlisting producers who had worked with her favorite contemporary singer-songwriters. She tapped Tyler Chester, who’d captured tracks with Madison Cunningham and Sara Bareilles; she also recruited Ethan Gruska, who counts Fiona Apple and Phoebe Bridgers as collaborators.
Buzz reverberates with the hard-earned wisdom of a young woman who charges dauntlessly towards her dreams — but can still spare a laugh if she stumbles.
Sparkle artist Liana Castillo brings a fresh and upbeat twist to the classic song “Umaambisyon.” Originally popularized by her fellow Kapuso singer Yasmien Kurdi, Liana’s version transforms the track into a fun and catchy anthem about a guy trying to win a girl’s attention.
“The song is a revival of Ms. Yasmien Kurdi’s classic hit. The original version, composed by Kedy Sanchez, tells the story of a guy with a crush. I hope everyone likes this new track and that they jive, dance, and sing along with it,” Liana said.
The Clash Season 5 finalist’s sophomore single, “Umaambisyon,” follows the playful theme of her debut single, “Bebegurl,” under GMA Music. This latest track explores the world of teen crushes and puppy love.
The song quickly gained traction upon its release on October 4, debuting at the 5th spot on iTunes Philippines.
Liana Castillo’s “Umaambisyon” is now available on all major music streaming platforms worldwide. For more information about your favorite Kapuso singer,
Mark your calendars! Indie rock veterans Orange & Lemons will be having their milestone-defining show titled Now & Then: Orange & Lemons 25th Anniversary Concert at the Metrotent Convention Center, Pasig on October 18.
Clem Castro, JM del Mundo, Ace del Mundo, and Jared Nerona will be performing a three-hour set to showcase their splendid discography over the years.
Depending on your age, your introduction to the band Orange & Lemons (shortened as “O&L”) would be from markedly separate eras. If you are in your 30s and above, you would have known them from their NU107 supremacy days – from their entry as an indie band up to their rise to the extreme mainstream with “Pinoy Ako”. If you are younger than that, there is a great chance that you rediscovered their music on TikTok through “Heaven Knows – Angel Has Flown” or heard a few O&L songs from your parents, uncles, aunties, and other elders. Still, one commonality then and now: Orange & Lemon’s music resonates with people regardless of age and timeline.
The History of O&L
Hailing from Bulacan, Orange & Lemons was originally formed in 1999 with Clem, Mcoy, JM and Ace. As a starting indie rock band, they were performing gigs left and right, but it wasn’t until 2003 that they got their big break when their breakthrough single “Just Like A Splendid Love Song” received positive appraisal at the now-defunct radio station NU107. Their first album Love in the Land of Rubber Shoes and Dirty Ice Cream was loved by listeners and music enthusiasts nationwide. Just a year later, they were already hailed the Best New Artist in the 2004 NU Rock Awards.
In 2005, more breakthroughs followed. They struck a record deal with a major label and then, their sophomore album aptly titled Strike Whilst the Iron Is Hot was released. The hit songs “Hanggang Kailan (Umuwi Ka Na Baby)” and “Heaven Knows (This Angel Has Flown)” were loved by the general public so much that O&L became one of the most popular bands at that time, filling music charts on TV and radio stations all over the nation. Shortly after, they reached the biggest push in their career when they were contacted when the largest television company in the country, ABS-CBN, asked them to create a soundtrack to the famous reality show Pinoy Big Brother. “Pinoy Ako” literally became a household hit, and with it came an outpour of more projects and gigs for the band.
O&L went on to work on major commercial projects, including making songs for advertisements for Sunsilk, a leading shampoo brand, and participating in tribute albums for Apo Hiking Society and Eraserheads. In 2006, their success reached astronomical levels and they were only allowed a break for two weeks for an entire year.
In 2007, O&L decided to work on a project that would show their true musicality and that was when their third album Moonlane Gardens was released. However, the effects of the burnout from the year before were taking their toll. A few months after the album, they announced their disbandment.
It took a decade for the band to reform with the three members – Clem, MJ, and Ace. Mcoy had left the band after the hiatus. They were later joined by keyboardist Jared Nerona. Eventually, Orange & Lemons got back on their feet, playing gigs across the country and being more steadfast in their current lineup. In 2022, they released another unique album: the all-Tagalog Kundiman-influenced La Bulaqueña.
Orange & Lemons Now
2024 has been treating them well. Early this year, “Heaven Knows – This Angel Has Flown”, a song released 19 years ago, suddenly debuted on Billboard Philippines and Spotify charts. It went viral on TikTok, prompting curious young listeners to dig deeper into O&L’s music.
In another string of coincidence, their song “La Bulaqueña” also found its way into the public consciousness when it was used by the beauty queen Chelsea Manalo (who is also from Bulacan) during her campaign period in Miss Universe Philippines. Amazingly, she also won the pageant and she will be representing the country in the upcoming Miss Universe 2024.
Striking at the perfect timing, Orange & Lemons had just released a music video for “La Bulaqueña” starring none other than Chelsea Manalo with the National Museum of Fine Arts as the backdrop.
On September 19, the four members of O&L met with the members of the media at the Unknown13 Pub and Grill for a press conference. Much to our surprise, we were primarily treated to a splendid mini-concert featuring their memorable tracks, interspersed with lots of personal, unfiltered anecdotes.
Clem, JM, Ace, and Jared sat down with the members of the press, candidly talking about their history – the process of songwriting, the ups, and downs of their rise to fame, the ideals they hold as musicians, and even their regrets from before. Here are the highlights of the event.
Songwriting process
Even though they officially formed in 1999, they were already writing songs as early as 1997. They wrote a lot of songs that their catalog filled not just one, but two albums. As the primary songwriter, Clem drew inspiration from his past lovers, immortalizing his experiences into songs. He spoke about how the line “umuwi ka na, baby” in “Hanggang Kailan” was about a girlfriend who went home to Bacolod for 3 months without contacting him. “Heaven Knows” was written about a woman named Angel who was the ex-wife of the son of a drug lord.
When asked as to which one they create first: the lyrics or the melody, Clem answered, “The lyrics come first because it’s easier to imagine the song. I have no proper music training. If there are lyrics, iniimagine ko lang yung melody niya at hinahanap ko sa gitara.” He elaborated that it’s easier for him that way because the band can be more flexible with the sound afterward.
What can the audience expect from their concert?
“We want to give them a tour from our very beginning to what is happening to Orange & Lemons nowadays,” frontman Clem Castro said. The show is expected to run for 3 hours. It will be divided into four parts, each one highlighting a specific album.
What made them decide to hold a 25th-anniversary concert?
“We want to give out to our true fans throughout the years even without Mcoy,” Clem expressed his gratitude to the fans who stuck with them even after their decade-long hiatus.
While it still isn’t completely clear why Mcoy left the band, the members are a lot more open to talk about it. Clem, in particular, has repeatedly acknowledged Mcoy’s invaluable contributions as the former lead vocalist of the band. “He will always be a part of O&L esp during our early days.”
Reemergence in Billboard PH charts – how did that happen?
Even in 2005, “Heaven Knows” was a very popular song, but 19 years later, it still managed to catch the younger generation’s curiosity. When asked about how they think that happened, the band could only say one thing: perhaps it was a song that was ahead of its time. They are very happy about the development and they encourage people to keep looking out for more of their music.
What has changed in the band now?
“Thanks for giving me another chance kasi alam ko medyo duda kayo sa akin,” Clem jokingly answered, making everyone in the room laugh.
The frontman had admitted to being too controlling of the band before, calling all the shots about what they should do. He admitted he still does to a certain point now, but the decision-making has become more collaborative now. They talk about everything openly now.
Similarly, the band had decided to be professional. “Everything is written on paper. Decision-making is unanimous.” Jared also chalked it up to age, “We are old. Wala nang nagtatampuhan. We talk. We converse. We settle things.”
As veterans in the field, how do they contribute to the music scene?
Brothers and bandmates JM and Ace are the proud owners of Unknown 13 Pub, the venue for the press conference. “This bar was built for new musicians, isang avenue para sa mga bagong banda, parang bahay nila. Ito yung advocacy ng bar na ‘to.” The cozy bar perched on top of a cafe at Katipunan Ave. is a great place for music lovers to get together.
Clem responded that he is open to advising starting musicians and colleagues. He has been doing that through his own independent record company known as Lilystars Records. During their decade-long hiatus, he wanted to figure out why their disbandment happened so easily and what could have been done to prevent it. That was when he studied the technical/legal side of being a musician. He said he is willing to impart his insights and learnings to anyone in the industry who needs them.
What are the future plans of the band?
Looking forward to the challenges ahead, the band sets their eyes on wider sceneries. For the next album, they aim for an international release by finding collaborators within Southeast Asia and beyond.
The Legacy of Orange & Lemons
“All things must pass, but we will try to be here for as long as we can and mag-iwan ng magandang legacy,” Clem declared. “We want to make our mark in the history of Philippine music. Yung mamention kami, ok na yun. It’s something that will last a long time.”
Orange & Lemons pride themselves on going against the flow. In every album they released, they always strived to create music that they would still be proud of 10 years or so in the future. That is also another reason they decided to hold their 25th-anniversary concert. They want their songs to stand the test of time and to reach more people.
For longtime fans and curious spectators alike, here is O&L’s promise: “We will pay it forward with more music.”

Philippine Concerts in Conversation with The Bloomfields ahead of the band’s 20th-anniversary show, Biyaheng Mahiwaga.
Renowned Filipino band, The Bloomfields, has undergone a transformational journey in the last twenty years, characterized by ingenuity, tenacity, and friendship—in their words, a BIYAHENG MAHIWAGA. The band reflects on their growth and expresses appreciation for their fans. They acknowledge a recent change in the lineup with the departure of Dino Pascual and welcome Nathan Abella, who seamlessly blends into the ensemble.
The band underscores the significance of purpose and commitment, finding happiness in composing music and engaging with their fans. They underscore the importance of balance in music and relationships, stressing the importance of consideration, perseverance, and shared principles as crucial components for achievement.
The Bloomfields is preparing to unveil a new album next year, featuring fresh interpretations of original songs and beloved covers, and highlighting a new psychedelic direction and the band’s aspiration to break free from conventions and artistic constraints. The band also intends to collaborate with other artists, aspiring to produce something innovative and unforeseen.
The Bloomfields aspire to be remembered as analog soul enthusiasts who enhanced the Filipino music landscape with modesty and dedication, greatly influenced by 60s Britpop and rock ‘n’ roll.
Philippine Concerts: It’s been two decades since The Bloomfields started. How will you describe the past decades?
The Bloomfields: The past two decades have been a vibrant and thrilling journey for The Bloomfields—an adventure filled with creativity, grit, and brotherhood. It’s been a fellowship full of color, fun, and unexpected surprises, where each moment brought character development, self-discovery, and personal growth. With story arcs that could only be written through lived experiences, it’s truly been a BIYAHENG MAHIWAGA—a magical journey that has shaped who we are today.
PC: Is there anything you wish you had done differently when you first started?
TB: If we could go back in time, we’d definitely wish we had practiced more and worked even harder. We’d invest more time in honing our craft and growing together as a band. Most importantly, we wish we had appreciated the people who supported us, through both the highs and lows, even more. Their belief in us was invaluable, and in hindsight, wish we’d have expressed that gratitude more fully from the very beginning.
PC: A lot of changes have happened in the band during these decades. One of which is Dino Pascual’s departure from the band in 2021. How did that affect the band and how did you move forward following that?
TB: Yes, we refer to this period as The Bloomfields Season 3—marking the third lineup change in our 20 years in the music scene. Dino was with us for 11 incredible years, from 2010 to 2021, and he’ll always be a brother to us. His decision to leave the band took us by surprise, especially since we were still working on new music in our freshly built studio in Timberland, San Mateo. Despite the uncertainty, we were able to record one last song with him, ‘Diwata,’ which will be part of our upcoming album set to release next year.
In February 2022, we moved forward with Nathan Abella. We’ve known him through his father, Rey Abella of The Jerks, a veteran musician we jam with every year during the 70s Bistro’s Beatles Night. Nathan fits seamlessly into the band. He shares our passion for mid-century music, is a versatile musician who can also do lead vocals, and above all, is a true team player who meshes easily with our dynamic.
PC: What is the most significant learning you learned through your longstanding career?
TB: The most significant lesson we’ve learned throughout our longstanding career is the sense of purpose and service. We’ve never been driven by chasing hits or the spotlight; instead, we find joy in simply doing what we love—creating our own music and making people happy through our live performances. It’s a privilege to be able to share our passion with others, and that gratitude fuels us. Knowing this purpose keeps us inspired, allowing us to play with the same passion and energy, even when performing the same songs we’ve played for years. It’s about the connection with our audience and the joy we bring them.
PC: Many artists look up to you and see you as role models in the industry. What valuable lessons would you like other artists to take away from your career?
TB: Harmony is key—not just in music, but in relationships. Just like how different notes and chords come together to create a song, each member of a band brings unique strengths and personalities. The real challenge is finding that harmony in how you work together. Respect, patience, and staying grounded are what tighten that bond. In the end, relationships and shared values are just as important as the music you create. If you nurture those, the music will naturally follow.
PC: In celebration of your 20th anniversary, you will be releasing a new single and doing a special show. How will this be different from your previous music and shows?
TB: We’re excited to bring fresh takes on our original tracks—from our first self-titled album The Bloomfields, Hit the Ground Running, and A Drop into the Blue—along with a mix of our favorite covers over the years. Fans will also get a sneak peek at some new sounds from our upcoming album, which will be dropping next year.
We’ve made some trippy LED visuals that perfectly complement our sound, creating a full-on psychedelic experience. We’ll also be performing Diwata, the last song we recorded with Dino, which will be part of the new album. It’s a chance for Dino to bid a proper farewell and introduce himself as Dino Pascual, closing this chapter with us in a meaningful way.
PC: What kind of music or album will we see The Bloomfields release in the future?
TB: Yes, we’re currently working on an album set to release next year, and it marks a new chapter for us—we’re in our psychedelic phase. While some fans might expect us to stay within the box of a vocal group in suits or as the ‘Beatles of the Philippines,’ we feel the need to break free from those labels. This album is all about pushing creative boundaries and exploring our sound without limitations or comparisons. We’re not focused on making hits; we’re simply making the music we want to create and share with the world.
PC: Given the chance, which artist do you want to collaborate with and what kind of collaboration will it be?
TB: There are so many artists we’d love to collaborate with, but the ones who first come to mind are those we’ve hung out with over the years—like Clem Castro of Orange & Lemons, Paul Putian of Coffee Break Island, Eco Del Rio of Bird., Red Dela Peña of POT, and Chris Padilla of Hilera, just to name a few. Each of them brings something unique to the table, and it would be exciting to fuse our styles together for something fresh and unexpected.
PC: No one can deny your major contribution to the Philippine music industry and the music industry in general, with two decades under your belt, an impressive discography, multiple accolades, and more. Your influence is truly incalculable. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?
TB: We hope to be remembered as a band that served and entertained with humility and service. We hope to be recognized as the ‘analog soul kids’ who were heavily influenced by the 60s Britpop and rock ‘n’ roll sound and style, enriching the Pinoy music scene with more color and character. After two decades of playing and creating music for our Pinoy audience, we take pride in the impact we’ve made and aspire to inspire future generations of Filipino artists.

After surprising fans with his story-driven conceptual single “The Other Side”, Bangkok-born singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit goes even deeper into the world of his alter ego Paul Vibhavadi on “Balter Baby”, the second single from his upcoming EP PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1.
Released to streaming platforms on October 9, 2024, this dance-oriented piece is Phum’s first instrumental-only track that showcases another side of his musical tastes and capabilities. An animated music video for “Balter Baby” by Shea Oracheski and James Bedggood based on Phum’s concept will also debut on the official Phum Viphurit YouTube channel.
In terms of narrative, “Balter Baby” picks up just before where “The Other Side” left off, in which the lovable sloth Paul Vibhavadi is grappling with his newfound adulation amongst a sloth-worshipping tribe he stumbled upon during his journey in search of the magical forest of Himmapan. “I wanted to expand on a part of the previous music video when it shows the tribe worshipping him, almost like an Ari Aster, Midsommer-type dance,” says Phum. “So it’s showing Paul in the trance of that, what he was feeling in that dance sequence.”
Intriguingly, Phum opted to convey this chapter of Paul’s story via an instrumental track with no vocals, once again pushing the boundaries of his music in the process. “I’ve done instrumental-heavy music, but always with glimpses of my voice. This one’s purely for people to dance to,” says Phum. “Honestly, if you go through the last fifty of my liked Spotify songs, I would say 45 of them are instrumental music. When I’m looking for inspiration, I try to write lyrics over pre-existing instrumentals, and I wanted to deconstruct that method by, ‘Hey, what if I can capture someone’s attention or move their head along to this three-minute house track that’s guitar-based with some synths?’ It was an interesting challenge, but also fits within the theme of the story.”
Regarding the specific influences for “Balter Baby”, Phum says, “I listened to a lot of Modjo, a dance group from the 2000s. I also listened to a lot of Seventies Motown, funk, and disco. But most of it was led by the visual because I directed the ‘The Other Side’ music video and was pretty heavily involved in the animation process for the ‘Balter Baby’ video. So I was thinking of Paul’s story and what particular soundtrack would suit this scene.” Indeed, the music of “Balter Baby” perfectly complements the video that takes us into Paul’s mind as his immersion into this new world that has embraced him sees him grooving along like a retro dance video game character.
The choice of “Balter Baby” as a single also further emphasizes the boldness of Phum Viphurit’s exploration of the PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1 EP, while still making sense within the context of the project. “I felt like it was going to introduce a new house-inspired song like ‘The Other Side’, I needed a bit of a continuation before I break from that tempo and texture, so ‘Balter Baby’ was the most natural selection to me,” he says. “It’s like, ‘Hey, it’s not just a one-off thing.’ I’m playing with the idea of trance, movement, and motifs throughout the whole EP.”
The end of the “Balter Baby” video sees Paul Vibhavadi enclosed in a glowing orb as he floats away from that tribe, and the audience is free to draw their conclusions – or look for more answers when the PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1 drops on October 17. “I know it’s quite a conceptual piece of work, and there’ll be many different interpretations of it,” says Phum. “But I’m so excited to show my creativity and make people feel something again with this next piece of work.”
