The title alone says it: Anberlin is on their Farewell Tour, their last tour together as a band, and they had made Manila a part of it again. As Stephen Christian emphasized during the show, they had come here “three times – not twice, but three times”. Their first time was a sold out show in A-venue in 2011; their second was during Bazooka Rocks Festival 2 in 2012; and their last, which happened in the evening of September 13, was their farewell show at the Skydome. In all instances, it was all thanks to Pulp Live World.
Anberlin is composed of Stephen Christian on vocals, Joseph Milligan and Christian McAlhaney on guitars, Deon Rexroat on bass and Nathan Young on drums. They have been around since 2002 and have released a total of 7 studio albums, each of which presented a different take on their music. They took risks, looked for ways for their music to evolve and never fell into the pit of just being another rock band.
In a lot of ways, being part of their final concert in Manila felt special. The Skydome was packed with fans who grew up listening to their music, so the atmosphere was different. Throughout the concert, there were only a few smartphones raised. Most of the people, particularly those in the pit, were just taking in the music – fist-punching the air, headbanging, jumping and singing their hearts out. It felt more like a celebration of Anberlin’s music, rather than a departure.

To put it simply: it was an adventure. B1A4’s stopover at Manila was an impressive, spazz-worthy two-hour concert that staged their catchiest tracks in full glory over at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on September 6.
B1A4 is a South Korean boy group made up of the leader Jinyoung, the vocalist/rapper CNU, the main vocals Sandeul, rapper Baro and maknae/youngest Gongchan. They are known for creating easygoing tunes infused with streaks of rap, electronic melodies and a touch of ballads.
The third stop for B1A4’s first ever world tour aptly titled as “Road Trip” was none other than Manila. They kicked off their tour in Taiwan and China last August and will proceed to tour Australia and US on the next months. Having made their debut only three years ago, B1A4 is just on the verge of conquering the world with their own brand of K-pop.

It has only been a year since they visited Manila, but it seems the boys of CNBLUE have gone a long way. As their title of their new album implies, the band is on a roll, and they “Can’t Stop” now. With Jung Yonghwa (leader/vocalist/guitarist), Lee Jonghyun (vocalist and lead guitarist), Lee Jungshin (bass guitar) and Kang Minghyuk (drums), the band has become one of the most prominent acts in the K-pop industry and even in the entertainment scene. Each one of them has appeared in top-rated, internationally renowed dramas and variety shows over the year. After wrapping up their successful Blue Moon World Tour on January, CNBLUE is again on another one tour to promote their latest Korean album. They are slated to have the Manila leg of the tour tonight at the Big Dome.
A few hours after their arrival in Manila, the band proceeded to hold their press conference with the Filipino media along with a number of selected fans at Marco Polo Hotel. Despite being one of the biggest Korean bands, the members appeared to be shy and aloof in person. They were slightly awkward in their mannerisms, but they came prepared, equipping themselves with a handful of Filipino words.

Featuring a bigger and more alluring deluge of bands, the Bazooka Rocks Festival 3 was undeniably grander than its predecessors. Enrapturing bigger and more diverse crowds of live music fans this year, Pulp Live World has again outdone themselves by staging quite a thrilling mix of different genres of rock music in a two-day festival.
It was eternally nighttime on the last two days of August at the Bazooka Rocks Festival 3. The patrons of the festival entered a Burtonesque Wonderland, oblivious to time and the shifting seasons outside. In between the vines in the crypt-like passage, the first thing that welcomed you were zombies in lab gowns. If that isn’t strange enough, just a little bit past the entrance, you would easily spot the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Cards, the tiny card soldiers with their tall lances –all of them in full regalia. Occasionally, you’d even spot them having a tea party.

To stir people’s anticipation for Bazooka Rocks Festival 3, Pulp Live World prepared a special pre-show featuring Finch, a post-hardcore/screamo band which gained recognition in 2002 with the release of their debut album titled “What It Is to Burn”.
Finch is currently composed of Nate Barcalow on vocals, Randy Strohmeyer on lead guitar, Alex Linares on rhythm guitar, Daniel Wonacott on bass guitar and Alex Pappas on drums. Up to now, their first album remains to be their most successful release yet. Their sophomore effort titled “Say Hello to Sunshine”, released in 2005, provided a less raucous sound and stuck more to post-hardcore instead of screamo.
As a band, their course had been slightly turbulent. They went through a series of indefinite hiatuses in 2006 and late 2010. With each member pursuing a different project during their breaks, the band’s future was left hanging. They started touring again in 2013 and started creating new material. Late this year, they are set to release “Back to Oblivion”, their long-overdue third album.
