Taking Back Sunday’s Influence Lives On

The harmonic dual vocals. The open and close parentheses in between the lyrics. The titles that never get any line in the song. The melodic shrieking/singing/screaming. The melancholy and bitterness wrapped into one.

In the forefront of the emo revolution in the early 2000’s, Taking Back Sunday was one band that stood out with all those qualities. When they released Tell All Your Friends in 2002 and Where You Want to Be in 2004, their music captivated a whole bunch of “sad, small, sweet so delicate (it used to be this dying breed)” souls that made the two records soundtracks of their youth.

  • Momoland finally meets PH Merrries

    Momoland finally meets PH Merrries

The Korean girl group Momoland held their Fanmeeting in Manila last January 25, 2019 Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with Yeonwoo, Jane, Taeha, Nayun, Daisy, JooE, Ahin and Nancy presented by DnM Entertainment. Here in the Philippines, they are known for their hit songs “Bboom Bboom” and “Baam!”. Momoland’s song was undeniably a success, a lot of Filipino people danced into the song.

During their fan meet, they were greeted with screams, and they started with Welcome to Momoland! followed by JJan! Koong! Kwang! Then the MC let the girls introduce themselves, what do you expect to the crowd when it’s Nancy and Yeonwoo part? of course loud screaming! And Nancy quoted “this is our first fanmeeting in the Philippines and I hope you all enjoy!” such a cutee! Then they also perform their song “Uh Gi Yeo Cha” the crowd goes wild when the girls show their cute dance of this song.

Filipino fans also got to know more about the Momoland through a special segment where the girls candid photos were shown and they were asked to share the stories behind those. All was excited except for JooE, who raised her hand saying she’s nervous of what picture will be shown. Then the MC asked who among them is confident, Taeha stood up! Oh confidently beautiful!

First photo shown was a picture of Nayun, which was shot by Nancy. SAying she was thankful for that picture.

Second picture is for Yeunwoo, this was for the previous awarding which and she loved her makeup. That’s why she took a selfie.

Third photo is from the beach taken last New Year’s Day., the beautiful Jane.

Fourth picture was from Nancy, screaming crowd as it is. The MC also asked the members to copy the pose of Nancy on the picture, as well as the fans, they did a great job!

Fifth picture was from Ahin, which was from the Awarding night too.

SIxth picture from JooE, such a sexy lady on her “Great” hand posed!

Next was for Taeha! photo was shot at the beach on New Years Day too.

The audience lapped it all up, responding with fervent cheers and well-timed fanchants. The stage felt full with the eight members dancing passionately and lively on it, backed by a live camera feed encompassed within pretty red and pink graphics and filters.

The lovely group has a number of hit songs under their belt, such as “Freeze (Remix)” and “Bingo Game” sparked excitement among the crowd as well as “Curious” and “Only One You” allowing the members to show off their vocal abilities. Not to mention a strong following, and are at the top of their game right now. At the concert, everyone was determined to see what made the group stand out.

To express their appreciation for the Filipino fans, Momoland made a rendition of the Tagalog song “Salamat” by Yeng Constantino , such an effort from them seeing they sang this song with love. Great performers indeed!

Nancy, JooE and Daisy entertained their fans on the stage too, they asked JooE to sing an English song from Bruno Mars the “Grenade” , believe me it was cool! Nancy never failed to take the spotlight whichever side she went. Being one of the most active in fan interactions, she always had this energetic vibe. Always brimming with charisma, she had a ready smile and puncturing gaze to match it for everyone in the crowd.

Momoland was eager to give, as they presented their audience with rare performances by units, Ahin and Taeha for “I need You and I Want You” , following the seductive performance of Nayun, Jane and Yeonwoo of “Something”, you can hear all the male fans scream! Then next was “Can’t Nobody” rendition by Nancy, Daisy and JooE. Can’t Nobody can hold them down as in!

And on the last part, they sing and dance with their song “Bingo Game”. Next was “Boom! Boom!” and the fanchant for ” Baam ” was drowned by the loud music. One part of the set that really stood out was when the lights turned colorful and the song “Boom! Boom!” was heard. You can see all those yong kids and young at heart grooving to their music! Momoland is the most laid back group you will ever met. They did a 2nd round of Bboom Bboom, Baam and and an encore with Camila Cabello’s “Havana” before the event ended, which is to every fans is the best part which they were able to interact with their fans, most of them took pictures with this amazing crowd. Selfies!!

Korean all-girl group Momoland desired to visit Boracay and Cebu then try the Philippine halo-halo. So watch out you might see them in your place!

  • Calein: A band to watch out for in 2019

Calein: A band to watch out for in 2019

Taking the Metro Manila indie scene by storm, gig after gig in your favorite bars, Calein releases “Someone”, a song purely about loss and the darkness that comes along with losing a significant partner.

The latest single from the indie/alternative band starts with a sound that pre-empts listeners that the song will most likely make someone cry. As the lyrics go, vocalist and rhythm guitarist JD Mustacho sings about how this past significant partner has found her “Someone”, unfortunately in the shape of someone else, and how badly this has affected him. Just as when you allow yourself to indulge into sadness because of its sad-yet-honest lyrics and soulful sound, you’ll find your head bopping as the song transitions into its chorus and synth-ful drop as Calein perfectly creates this sadness into something beautiful; something worth slow dancing to, especially at live gigs. This is simply the sound of heartbreak in 2019.

Calein was originally formed in 2015, and today the band consists of vocalist/rhythm guitarist JD Mustacho, lead guitarist JP Isidro, and bassist Kleyo Aydalla. “Someone” is released under OC Records! Same record label with (Unique Salonga, Bita and the botflies, Callalily and more.

  • Taeyeon Heats Up Manila!

    Taeyeon Heats Up Manila!

Taeyeon of SNSD (So Nyuh Shi Dae/ Girls’ Generation) soared high with the recent Manila leg of her “S..” tour at the New Frontier Theatre last December 14.

SONEs (So-Wons), the fandom of SNSD, signifies that the group and their fans will forever be one, and it was indeed a night where Filipino SONEs and Taeyeon became one. Local SONEs have been anticipating Taeyeon’s return, since the last Manila concert that Girl’s Generation participated in is already three years ago. Well, it was definitely worth the wait, wasn’t it?

The sold-out concert for Taeyeon’s tour was full of energy and brimming with enthusiasm coming from both Taeyeon and the fans. The stage was set beautifully, and made the fans even more excited for what was to unfold for the next two hours. They kept on chanting Taengoo’s (Taeyeon’s nickname) name and sang along to her songs while waiting for the concert to start.

Taeyeon kicked off with “Here I Am”, where a music video was played in the background. It was followed by “I Got Love,” and “Fire” which was complimented by her red outfit. Known as one of the most powerful vocalists of Korea’s SM Entertainment label, Taeyeon belted out “Rain,” “All Night Long,” “Baram Baram” and “Why,”. She was impressed when PH SONE’s sang along., musing “Wow you know all my songs, I really didn’t expect the support from you guys, thank you so much”.

The concert felt like a fan meeting as she made sure to interact with her fans. There was even a moment when she shared her sentiments and PH SONEs kept on jeering her with “Iiyak na yan” to which she reacted. She was even tagged as the “Pambansang Beshy/Beshie” and she actively played along by repeating every Filipino word uttered by her fans. Taeyeon also conveyed how elated she was meeting her Filipino fans, saying

“How long have you guys waited for me? I also waited a long time for you guys. For us to come here, there are lots of things that happened, but I thought that you guys are the most important thing. I will go back to Korea thinking that my decision wasn’t wrong”

The concert progressed and she crooned the crowd with “One Day,” “Gemini,” “Christmas Without You” “I’m all Ears,” and “Gravity”. The climax of the night was the live rendition of her song “Fine”, which definitely sent goosebumps to every fan inside the theatre. She mentioned that it was her first time experiencing a warm December, and jokingly asked if a Philippine Santa wears a bikini. “It’s my first time to experience a really hot December. It’s not bad, it’s actually really good”.

As the concert went on, the energy from the audience never floundered as fans kept on livening the mood with loud cheers. Taeyeon said that the shrieks and cheers make it feel like World Cup and Olympics. “I really really feel that if we go to the World Cup, we’ll win”.

Sadly, the two-hour concert had to come to an end. Taeyeon performed “Time Lapse,”, “Circus,” and I” for her encore. “I think today’s concert will be very memorable for me. I’m so happy that I was able to sing to you guys for a very long time and I’m so happy that I was able to receive your energy and passion, SONEs are really the funniest in the world. PH SONEs are the best. SONE 짱야!!”

After years of waiting, the yearning heart of PH SONEs were quenched with fabulous performances from Taeyeon. We’ll definitely wait for the time that we’ll be able to see Taeyeon along with the other members of Girl’s Generation.
