During his exclusive interview with Philippine Concerts, Eric Nam promised us a fun show and with lots of singing and dancing. On November 10, Eric Nam held his There and Back Again in Manila at the Samsung Hall and the Filipino Nam Nation got exactly that and more.
“I waited for this day for a very long time. I’m so excited to be here, so thankful that you guys are here,” Eric told the crowd at the beginning. It was his 2nd time to perform in Manila, the first being in January 2020, a few months before the global pandemic happened. Fast forward to 2022, he took the stage again as if he hadn’t lost any momentum.
Eric Nam was a versatile performer onstage. He belted out his songs effortlessly and danced smoothly while he’s at it. Backed by two dancers and a live band, he moved around the stage as if he owned it. Add to that, he exuded warmth whenever he talked to his fans, making sure all of them were having a good time. With all this, It was very easy for the crowd to immerse themselves in his music and his charm.
His setlist was a good mix of his best hits. From his latest album, he performed “Any Other Way”, “What If” and “Lost on Me”. From Before We Begin, the bittersweet “Love Die Young”, the groovy “You’re Sexy I’m Sexy” and the celebratory “Congratulations”.
There were some surprises in between as well. During “Good for You”, Eric Nam came out with a bunch of roses which he graciously gave out to the audience. For the first time in his tour, he performed his debut song from almost a decade ago “Heaven’s Door”.
The Filipino Nam Nation also threw their curve ball of surprises, too. Before the show, they gave out banners which said “Hi Eric! Nam Nation is always down for you!” . Some even brought customized lightsticks. When Eric asked the crowd who were celebrating their birthdays, he got a bit of a surprise when the crowd sang Happy Birthday for him in return. FYI: He’s celebrating his day on the 17th. “Thank you so much, I’m turning nineteen. One day, I’ll turn twenty and I’ll be like everybody else,” he joked.
“Thanks to you guys – to each and every one of you here tonight! You could be anywhere, but you chose to be here. I hope that if I come back, y’all come back,” he told the crowd towards the end of his show. Of course, it was an immediate “yes”.
November 11 – Jung Hoyeon was the center of attention as she held her first Fun Meet in Manila at the New Frontier Theater. As IAM Worldwide’s ambassador, she faced her fans and answered questions from the event’s host Sam Oh.
Jung Hoyeon is known to many for her role as the stoic yet determined Kang Saebyeok a.k.a. Player 067 in the wildly popular 2021 Netflix show “Squid Game”. Despite being her debut as an actress, her portrayal of the role turned out to be so iconic, it earned her a win in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series as well a nomination at the Emmys.
Radiant and elegant, Hoyeon entered the stage, donning a white Filipiniana dress, a modernized take on the traditional baro’t saya. Prior to her breakout role in “Squid Game”, she already has a formidable career in modeling which started in 2010. She was a runner-up in the TV show Korea’s Next Top Model in 2013. She has also participated in the Seoul and New York Fashion Week.
“Mabuhay! I’m so glad to meet you guys in person,” she greeted the crowd with a wide smile. When asked why she decided to pursue acting when she was already successful as a model, she said that she is an adventurous person. When she was traveling and meeting different kinds of people as a model, she realized that she wanted to pursue acting as well.
The massive success of “Squid Game” was something she wasn’t expecting at all. During filming, she narrated that she just did her best to play her role. When her name was announced as the winner at the SAG Awards, she was in total shock. She still thinks it’s an honor for her and she’s very grateful to the cast and crew of the show.
Jung Hoyeon also said she feels a bit of pressure being dubbed as the “The World’s Current It Girl” by Vulture Magazine. However, she is also amazed and honored to know that many people share her preferences.
We also learned some trivia about her. During her free time, she likes to lie down and not do anything. She likes playing Blockudoku, a mobile game which is a mix of block games and sudoku. Lastly, she is also very interested in going to Boracay or Cebu.
Throughout the Fun Meet, Hoyeon made consistent effort in engaging her fans by waving at them, sending finger hearts and even replying to their cheers. At the end, winners of the games got their photo session with her.
“Thank you so much for your precious time! I’llI definitely come back and see more of you! Salamat po! Mahal ko kayo! Stay safe and healthy,” she told the crowd as she bid them goodbye.
Jung Hoyeon is set to make her Hollywood film debut with the “The Governess” directed by Joe Talbot. She is also slated to appear in Alfonso Cuaron’s series “Disclaimer”.

Mastering content to the highest global quality standard is finally possible without having to go abroad.
Guests who attended the opening of Waxiefied Sound Production were recently treated to an immersive experience consisting of listening to the songs of local artists in a variety of modes, ranging from stereo mix to Waxiefied stereo master to Dolby Atmos. This was recently displayed to attendees of the event.
Waxiefied Sound Production is the country’s first and only official Dolby Atmos home entertainment certified studio. It recently opened its doors to begin providing services to local customers. Hundreds of studios across the globe are equipped to produce content using Dolby Atmos.
Waxie Joaquin, founder of Waxiefied Sound Production and executive mastering engineer, stated that there are around three to four studios in the area that are equipped to play Dolby Atmos. They accomplish this by using headphones or by relying on their visual stock knowledge.
Dolby Atmos, a pioneer in the field of audio technology, has recognized Waxiefied Sound Production as deserving of their highest accreditation, the Home Entertainment Studio Certification. We were given a sneak peek at what immersive sound engineering will be like during the opening of the first and only certified Dolby Atmos Home Entertainment Studio in the country. The equipment used to create, edit, mix, and master high-quality footage for Blu-ray and online streaming was shown to Wes. Dolby Atmos Sound Mastering Service was also unveiled as a means to locally master and manage the audio of a wide range of media, including music, audiovisual clips, reels, TV programs, TV series, and movies, without the need for costly international travel.
The people behind this endeavor are all professionals in the music business with a deep love and commitment to sound and music. This includes acoustic and audio mastering engineers, event DJs, and sound consultants. Waxie G. Joaquin, the company’s creator and Executive Mastering Engineer, is at the heart of this effort. He detailed every step they took to get where they needed to go. The process of placing orders for the studio’s necessary equipment. They had us do the “feel it to believe it” thing, and now we can.
From L-R: Vito Syquia, Jigs Hermano, Peter Hager, Waxie Joaquin
“The new threshold provided by Dolby Atmos Home Entertainment Studio opens more room and possibilities for cultivating, uncovering, and sharpening the creativity of artists with the help of this cutting-edge technology,” Joaquin shared. “With the track record and expertise of our team, we are confident to produce top-notch and immersive quality audio that will give a multidimensional approach to storytelling,” he added. When asked if we should look forward to hearing OPM classics remastered in their room, Joaquin happily shared that they are more than happy to do it and are making “ligaw” to have the original copy from an unnamed artist that they want to remaster.
Their employment of the Dolby Atmos Mastering Suite facilities in the country spells the end of multiple back-and-forth accession of local content to mastering studios abroad just to have it certified by Dolby as well as do quality control and certify high resolution lossless files and Apple Digital Masters sound for Apple Music. To put simply, submitting content or sending a piece of music to digital platforms such as Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, or Amazon can be done faster, more efficiently and conveniently at a fraction of the cost of having this done abroad.
“With Dolby Atmos Music, songs can live and breathe in new ways to fully immerse you. It has levels of detail and depth that you simply can’t hear with standard sound — like listening to your favorite songs for the first time!” shares the Dolby Atmos team.
Alden Richards, Direk Perci Intalan, Iwi Laurel, Nicole Asencio, New Game Plus’ Jazz Dufourt, Kindred’s Dan Gil and Tala Gil, Flip Music’s Jellica Mateo, Marga Jayy, X1 Digital’s Founder Direk Cedrid Hornedo, Wila Baliw’s Ian Tayao, and Mike Pedero were among the celebrities who attended the launch event whose main highlight was the immersive experience of listening to songs of James Reid, New Game Plus, Nicole Asensio, and Dan Gil and Marga Jayy in different modes from stereo mix to Waxiefied Stereo Master to Dolby Atmos.
Other remarkable clients under the Waxiefied Sound Production portfolio include some of the biggest names in the sound production and music industry such as Massiah, Nadine Lustre, Jay Ortega, J. Mara, Morobeats, and many more.

Among a lot of things that took off in the middle of the pandemic, one of the biggest interest groups that took the world by storm is the Hallyu Wave – with its amazing visuals and performances polished to perfection. It’s no secret that while the K-Pop and K-Hiphop scene was already here pre-2020, the fandom is now even stronger. While not new to the scene, EPIK HIGH has been leading the charge of the Hallyu Wave as a household name since 2003, inspiring the public with their catchy tunes and lyrics that speak volumes about the inner workings of their minds. Here are a few reasons why they remain so loved by the public after almost 20 years of music.
They’re a refreshing spin to your daily playlist. When we hear about Korean artists, we’re immediately reminded of members in matching outfits, dancing to upbeat dance tracks. But with EPIK HIGH, they make music that’s easy to listen to while also speaking to your soul. Their discography is so dynamic that there’s something for everyone. From upbeat tracks that energize you, to lullabies that help you relax and unwind at the end of the day. Yes, they’ve made lullabies, too; specifically dedicated to cats.

Their singular blend of hip-hop and sharp lyrics, which openly discuss themes like mental health and social issues, turned them into one of the most pivotal groups in Korean music. Throughout their twenty years together, they released hundreds of anthemic songs, inspired artists like BTS, and were the first Korean act to ever play at Coachella in 2016.
A new trailer for the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has been released, and it stars Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc. Rian Johnson, a well-known American film director, kicked off a brand-new film series in 2019 with the release of an original murder mystery film that was highly influenced by Agatha Christie.

In Glass Onion, the first sequel to Knives Out, Daniel Craig’s mysterious detective Benoit Blanc returns to solve what could be his most difficult case to date. The first full-length trailer for the film reveals more of the story than previous trailers had, but still leaves plenty of room for mystery until the film’s actual release.
Glass Onion’s story takes Benoit Blanc to an island full of tech moguls and disruptors who have gathered for a murder mystery party. As with any of Blanc’s stories, it seems, something goes very wrong and that there might be a real crime afoot on the island. But since the host is obsessed with puzzles, solving the crime could be more complicated than last time around.
Watch the full trailer here:
Like the last movie, and most great murder-mysteries, Glass Onion features an all-star cast that includes Ethan Hawke (First Reformed), Edward Norton (Fight Club), Jessica Henwick (The Matrix Resurrections), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), Dave Bautista (Dune), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Madelyn Cline (Stranger Things), Janelle Monáe (Moonlight), and Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton). The movie is once again written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper).
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be available on Netflix on December 23, 2022.

It was a day to remember as Macbeth celebrated their 20th anniversary worldwide and its 10th anniversary in the Philippines. They treated their supporters with a successful Macbeth Music Festival: The 20th Anniversary Show (Concert + Fashion Show). Thousands of OPM band fans and fashion lovers packed the Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig City on October 8, 2022. The brand has created a 20+ band line up across different genres focused on the mainstream and underground music communities, merged with a fashion show.
The show has two connecting stages that give a unique runway with a back-to-back music experience to the audience. Rouge, an all-female band, opened the show with their lit performances, followed by Imbue No Kudos, Shotgun Combo, Lilith, Divina, and Written by the Stars. Other OPM bands were also present at the show, such as CHNDTR, Snakefight, Sucketseven, Fragments, Fastpitch, Even, Hilera, and Chocolate Factory rendered their one-of-a-kind rock n’ roll performances, which graced the attendees. The Soapdish and Mayonnaise bands, also celebrating their 20th anniversary, serenaded the crowd with their nostalgic songs, which everybody enjoyed.
After the iconic band “Sandwich” performance and before the fashion show started, a tribute LED clip for Jamir Garcia was shown. Garcia, the late vocalist of Slapshock, had a massive part in Macbeth’s milestone here in the Philippines.
Macbeth sets the pace with new collections launched at its first Fashion Show Concert event during Philippine Fashion Week. They showcased their three collections, the (1) Denim Collection, (2) Rock Collection, and the (3) 20th Anniversary Collection. While the 30 models are on their catwalks, the Macbeth All-Stars and Superbands also added some spice as they slay the runway with their carefully selected head-banging track list, which pays homage to the years when Macbeth started. Included in the song list are the following: Know Your Enemy by Green Day, Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind, Torn by Natalie Imbruglia and In Too Deep by Sum 41 played during “Denim Collection”.
For Macbeth All Stars “The Switch” they played Swing Swing by The All-American Rejects, and That’s What You Get by Paramore. Next on the list are Misery Business by Paramore, Teenagers by My Chemical Romance, One Step Closer by Linkin Park, My Friends Over You by New Found Glory, and Last Resort by Papa Roach played during “Rock Collection”. For Macbeth All Star “Mix Jam” they played Ever Long and My Hero by Foo Fighters, followed by the song list for the “20th Anniversary Collection” such as The Anthem by Good Charlotte, What’s My Age Again? by Blink-182, and Still Waiting by Sum 41. All the songs used were from the eras of the 90s and 2000s which is the root of Macbeth.
The jampacked amazing performances by Rico Blanco, Urbandub, and Chelsea Alley, left a mark as one of the memorable moments for the attendees and ended the show.
Aside from the concert and fashion show, Macbeth also invited their partners Ducati Philippines, and endorsers for Macbeth Machines line Multi Awarded International Racers — TJ Alberto (Access Plus Racing/Ducati), Norman Agojo, and Jay Taruc (Newscaster One PH and Ride PH Host) that also attracts the attention of the attendees and enjoys taking selfies with the cool drift cars and motorcycles during the event. There were also different personalities and celebrities spotted at the venue, and they were given a chance to be part of the exclusive mini-press conference during the music festival.
Behind this successful RAD event is Mr. Harold Solomon, the CEO of RAKISTA (REC Productions), who is also known to be the mastermind of the biggest OPM rock concerts in the Philippines, the “Rakrakan Festival.” The RAKISTA (REC Productions) team organized this collaborative “Macbeth Music Festival: The 20th Anniversary Show (Concert+Fashion Show)” directed by Mr. Benjie Estanislao and headed by the Marketing Manager of Macbeth, Ms. Rhome Yu.
The event was also sponsored by Ducati and Eurotel, who also participated during the event, and the attendees excitedly mobbed their booths.
It was a mixed emotion for both RAKISTA and the MACBETH team as they ended the show with a triumph and the whole team was grateful to all the people who came and witnessed the celebration of MACBETH’s 20 rocking years.

The multi-talented Eric Nam will make his way back to the Philippine concert stage on November 10 at the Samsung Hall, kicking off the Asia leg of his There and Back Again tour in the country.
The multi-hyphenate promises a fun-filled concert — with a lot of singing and dancing — that will show a performance he is confident in and happy with for his Filipino Nam Nation. “That type of positive energy I have doing the show, it connects with the people who are watching and they walk away having had a good time,” he told Philippine Concerts in an exclusive interview. He will perform his best hits, including tracks from his latest album, There and Back Again, particularly “I Don’t Know You Anymore”, “Wildfire”, and “Any Other Way”, which he is most excited to bring to the stage for his local fans.
The upcoming Manila stop of There and Back Again marks Eric Nam’s first concert in the country after almost three years since his concert in 2020. The singer-songwriter recounted roaming around the Metro and having good food. He also expressed admiration for Filipinos, lauding their love for the arts. “I feel like the people in the Philippines are so warm and so kind. More than anything, they love music. That’s what I really respect and love about Filipino people — You have a deep understanding and love for the arts,” he remarked.
In addition to reuniting with his Filipino fans, the tour, together with the album, marked a significant milestone in his career. The There and Back Again album served as his first release as an independent artist, following the end of his contract under his former agency. He admitted that going independent offers both pros and cons. “Being an independent artist is at times great and at times very difficult,” he said.
Still despite everything, he is happy and grateful to be an independent artist and be in control of his own career. “I think it’s really great that I am able to put music out, to tour the world, act in things, and take part in really cool projects as an independent musician. For that, I’m really grateful,” he added.
Moreover, the seven-track album signified his journey coming to South Korea to professionally pursue music and returning to the United States to continue what he started overseas and pursue his lifelong dream to be a singer in the US. And the journey there and back again was daunting, said Eric Nam. “Taking that journey, which almost took me ten years in Korea, and coming back to the States and reimagining and reengineering my career here was a daunting and very scary task,” he remarked. But the shift was also something he believes he had and wanted to do. It was a big shift — not only in terms of his career, but life in general.
Eric Nam came to South Korea in 2011 to compete in the second season of Star Audition: Birth of a Great Star. The following year, he officially signed under a label to debut as a solo artist, and the rest, as often said, is history. The singer-songwriter considered that period a “very momentous, important period” in his life. “It still is,” he said.
The year 2022 also marked ten years since he officially started his professional music career in South Korea. It was a decade of figuring things out about himself, what he wants to do, what he wants to create with his time on Earth. According to him, he spent those years figuring and experimenting various things in the entertainment world which he was happy and grateful to have the chance to do.
Despite the ups and downs of the past ten years, the multi-talented star lives without regrets. I try not to have regrets because you tend to dwell on the past and not think about how you can improve for the future, ” he remarked. He admitted that there were instances he wanted to quit or wished he never started, but he considers those moments as significant to his journey.” I take it as a pat on the back like ‘Hey, you got through it. Now, do whatever uou you want to do,” he said.
Aside from music, Eric Nam is known for the many hats he wears and different projects he undertakes, including MINDSET by DIVE Studios, a wellness platform that creates a space where people will feel safe to be seen and heard. “We created MINDSET because we believe that, sometimes, you just need to hear that you are not alone in whatever struggle or hardship you are going through,” he said. MINDSET has featured artists from various countries and genres who share their stories, including members of SEVENTEEN, GOT7, (G)I-DLE, iKON, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, and more. Given the chance, he also wish to have members of BTS and BLACKPINK on the platform. “They give us incredible performances and music, but at the same time, I’m sure they go through a lot of things that we all go through. To hear those conversations — not necessarily negative stuff — but to hear about the struggles they have, just very normal struggles, and for us to feel seen and to feel heard and to feel connected in that way. I think it will be incredible,” he said.
Eric Nam hopes that the platform become an avenue for mental health awareness. “It’s not always the easiest because we are very sensitive in terms of how we tell stories — important stories. I hope people are being positively affected by it and are enjoying and appreciating the content,” he added.
With everything he is already doing, Eric Nam promises that there is more to look forward to in the future. He will make his acting debut with Transplant that he hopes will open more actinh projects for him.
The singer-songwriter is also back in the studio, working on a new album for next year. A secret new music project is in the works and will be out in January 2023. He also teased new contents for DIVE Studios and MINDSET are coming. In addition, he revealed that he started to write and produce for TV shows and movies.
“It’s a lot of things, but for me, I’ve found that having a lot of things encourages my curiosity and creativity, so they kind of work together and I’m able to pull from different sides. That’s what I’ve enjoyed about my creative process,” he shared.
And Eric Nam hopes that with all the things to come, his Nam Nation will be there for it and like it. Before all the big treats for next year, the multi-talented star will treat his fans to more concerts as he brings There and Back Again tour to Asia, starting with the Philippines.
“All my Filipino Nam Nation, thank you so much for waiting for three years to see me. I’ve been so excited about going back to the Philippines and I can’t wait to see you. We’re gonna have a great time. The show, I promise you, is a lot of fun. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen. It’s gonna be a blast. Come on with comfortable shoes on and be ready to sing. I can’t wait to see you. Thank you so much for the love,” expressed the singer-songwriter.

Illiteracy is a key issue that hampers an individual’s ability to function in society. It limits employment opportunities and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. In the Philippines, pockets of illiteracy remain despite having a basic literacy rate of more than 95%.
Recognizing the crucial role literacy plays in uplifting lives, Globe has partnered with NABU, a reading app and mother tongue publishing platform that makes literacy accessible to children globally. Based in New York, NABU is a nonprofit organization focused on eradicating poverty through increased literacy.
The partnership is in line with Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including UN SDG No. 4 on the provision of quality education, and UN SDG No. 17, which highlights the value of partnerships in achieving the sustainable development goals.
“Globe is always looking for ways to empower Filipinos. We believe that literacy is a fundamental right that should be accessible to everyone. This partnership with NABU will help us make reading more accessible to Filipinos, so they can learn, appreciate local culture, and reach their full potential,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of the Globe Group.
“We are excited to be partnering with Globe on this project. This is the first time that we are venturing into the Philippine market. We are confident that this partnership will help us solve the imbalance in children’s book creation and distribution,” said Tanyella Evans, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Creator of NABU.
According to a joint report released by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the World Bank titled “Where are we on Education Recovery?,” the Philippines is currently experiencing a “learning poverty” where an estimated 70% of 10-year olds in low- and middle-income countries are unable to read or comprehend a simple story.
Their findings also showed how learning has become further exacerbated by the global pandemic, driven by the disruption to in-person schooling.
Through this partnership, Globe will serve as a distribution unit for NABU’s e-books throughout the Philippines to complement students’ learning. Anyone can access the Nabu.org mobile app for free.
Together, the two organizations are bringing more than a hundred Filipino books, with some translated into regional languages such as Hiligaynon, Bicolano, Ilokano, Cebuano, and Maranao. NABU believes that helping children read in their local language first allows their confidence to grow. Having culturally-represented, original, and relatable stories in bilingual text increases the child’s motivation to read.
Over the next two years, Globe and NABU will seek to expand the platform’s reach by partnering with schools and learning facilities. NABU is also excited to hone the skills of Filipino creatives such as writers and illustrators to continue telling and creating more stories that reach a wider audience.
The NABU: Multilingual Kids Books app may be downloaded for free on Google Play Store and App Store. For further details, visit https://www.nabu.org/read/ or https://www.nabu.org/tl/philippines.
Globe has always been a strong advocate of reading and comprehension. It has the Globe eLibrary mobile app and website (https://globeelibrary.ph/), which contain hundreds of English classic titles, age-appropriate storybooks, eLearning videos, and other resource materials that can be viewed online or downloaded for later use.
