7 (G)I-DLE Songs that You Need on Your Playlist

Listening to (G)I-DLE will definitely make every day a better day!

Since debuting in 2018, South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE created waves in the K-Pop scene with their impressive musicality and artistry as they confidently explore different genres, reflect various themes, and tell stories in their every release.

In an interview with Rolling Stone India, leader Soyeon talked about challenging societal norms. “The key is having a solid opinion and not giving in or being wavered by external [societal] factors. We think itโ€™s important to constantly do it over and over again rather than doing it just once and giving up. If you keep proving your worth to people, they will eventually grasp and respect it,โ€ she said.

Indeed, the discography of (G)I-DLE reflects their drive to empower and inspire others to take courage. Although this list could never give justice to the amazing songs of the girl group that make up their whole discography, it’s time for you to listen to these songs and add them to your everyday playlist. Or listen to them every day as we count down to (G)I-DLE’s upcoming Manila concert, happening on September 11!

    LATATA

    • 2018
    • I Am

(G)I-DLE debuted strong as the girls dropped “LATATA” as the title track of their debut extended play, I Am. Leader Soyeon wrote the song and teamed up with music producer Big Sancho in the song’s production.

Paper Magazine ranked it number 14 in its year-end list of Top 20 K-Pop Songs of 2018. It also gave the girl group three music show wins. In addition, “LATATA” peaked at the fourth spot on Billboard’s World Digital Songs Chart and the 12th spot on Gaon Digital Chart.

    HANN (Alone)

    • 2018
    • Digital Single

Following “LATATA”, (G)I-DLE returned with the digital single “HANN (Alone). Soyeon, who wrote the lyrics, once again collaborated with Big Sancho in the production of the song.

The song won three music shows and made it to the year-end lists of Bugs, Dazed, Idolator, The Young Folks, and KultScene. Dazed, which put the song at number three on its list, described it as, “Theatrical strings peek through the mix, the chorus is punctured by a gleaming, high-pitched effect for an alien-like quality, and even when itโ€™s at its warmest and most approachable, the girls, particularly Soyeon, infuse it with a take-no-prisoners haughtiness that makes โ€œHANNโ€ incredibly compelling.”

“HANN (Alone)” peaked at number two on Billboard’s World Digital Songs Chart and number eight on Gaon Digital Chart.

    LION

    • 2019
    • Queendom Final Comeback & I Trust

“LION” was originally released as part of the extended play, Queendom Final Comeback, which comprised songs recorded by Queendom contestants, including (G)I-DLE. Soyeon wrote the lyrics to the songs and worked again with Big Sancho in composing, producing, and arranging the song.

The girl group then released the song as part of their third extended play, I Trust. Billboard named the song one of the best K-Pop songs in 2019, putting it at number nine. L. Singh of Billboard stated, “Every part of this anthem is brimming with untamed, frenetic, self-assured power thatโ€™s channeled into its booming rhythms, more appropriate for a battlefield than a stage.”

With “LION”, (G)I-DLE took home the Best Female Performance Award at the 2020 Golden Disc Awards.

    Oh My God

    • 2022
    • I Trust

Another song from the EP, I Trust, “Oh My God” served as the title track of the EP. The girl group also released an English version of the song, which, according to Miyeon, is a gift for their international fans, following the postponement of their I-Land: Who Am I World Tour in 2020 due to the CoViD-19 pandemic.

Soyeon once again took charge of the songwriting, working together on the production with Big Sancho. Dazed wrote about “Oh My God” in its year-end list, where it placed at number 18, “‘Oh My God’ plays against form with an identikit intro/outro and elimination of a bridge, but the crooning, self-flagellating verses and Soyeonโ€™s wickedly remorseless rap crawl deep under the skin.”

    HWAA

    • 2021
    • I Burn

“HWAA” marked (G)I-DLE’s return with their new extended play, I Burn, in 2021. Soyeon wrote the lyrics for “HWAA” and worked with Pop Time for the production.

With the song, the girl group took home ten music show trophies and received nominations from the 2022 Gaon Chart Music Awards and the 2022 Golden Disc Awards. Billboard also listed it among the 25 Best K-Pop Songs of 2021. Jeff Benjamin of Billboard wrote, “‘HWAA’ created something that stood out and continued to sound fresh throughout 2021.”

    TOMBOY

    • 2022
    • I Never Die

“TOMBOY” saw Soyeon work again with Pop Time on the song production, while taking charge of the song lyrics. The song served as the lead single of the girl group’s first studio album, I Never Die. Released in 2022, the song got both local and international K-Pop fans jamming to the song — its popularity was further reflected in its chart performance.

“TOMBOY” debuted at number two and peaked at number one on Gaon Digital Chart. It also placed 12th on Billboard’s World Digital Songs Chart.

    MY BAG

    • 2022
    • I Never Die

Another must-add song to your playlist, “MY BAG” is part of the studio album, I Never Die. Soyeon wrote the song and worked with Nathan on its production. The song charted at the 22nd spot on Gaon Digital Chart.

The Kraze Magazine‘s Sofia Gomez wrote about the song, “When โ€œMY BAGโ€ plays on your speakers, this is the moment to have fun and enjoy the vibey hip-hop track that will be liked by many for its eccentric style.” Moreover, the song also features all of the members rapping to the beat.

We got seven songs for you, but (G)I-DLE has so much more songs that deserve a spot on your playlist. Gear up for the 2022 (G)I-DLE WORLD TOUR: JUST ME ()I-DLE IN MANILA with a day filled with the girl group’s music!

Tickets to the concert are still available via TicketNet online and outlets and see the girl group perform in their first solo concert in the Philippines at the New Frontier Theater on September 11.

  • Two-day Korea travel fair marks Korea Tourism Organization’s (KTO) 10th anniversary in the Philippines

Two-day Korea travel fair marks Korea Tourism Organization’s (KTO) 10th anniversary in the Philippines

On September 10 and 11, 2022, the Glorietta Activity Center and Palm Drive Activity Center in Makati City will host the “2022 Korea Festival,” an event hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the opening of the KTO’s Manila Office. It is hoped that a massive Korea Travel Fair at the 2022 Korea Festival will pique Filipinos’ interest in visiting Korea and highlight the country’s rich cultural history. This event marks the first time the Embassy, the KTO, and the KCC have together celebrated Chuseok, the Korean national Thanksgiving holiday.

The Embassy, the Korea Tourism Organization, and the Korea Cultural Center have joined forces to host a two-day celebration of Korean culture and tourism. Wearing Hanbok, or Korean traditional clothes, playing Korean traditional games like ddakji, dalgona sweets, and jegichagi, and studying Hangeul, or Korean calligraphy, are all options for participants interested in showcasing tradition and Korea’s historically rich culture. Given that it is also Chuseok in Korea, it would be remiss of us not to mention the annual tradition of creating and eating Songpyeon, or half-moon-shaped rice cakes, which is a staple of the Korean Chuseok celebration. Meanwhile, up-to-date pursuits include busking and picnicking like you’re in Hongdae or along the Han River.

As of June 1, 2022, Filipinos will once again be able to visit Korea as tourists. By August of 2022, the number of Filipinos visiting Korea had increased by almost 60% year over year. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) is teaming up with seven (7) airlines and five (5) local travel agencies to offer exclusive promo fares and installment deals for this weekend’s Korea Travel Fair, in the hopes of rekindling Filipinos’ interest in traveling abroad and encouraging them to make Korea their first international destination after the pandemic. Korean Air, Jeju Air, Asiana Airlines, Fly Gangwon, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Asia make up the other seven airlines. BPI credit and debit cardholders will have access to a variety of convenient payment choices and flexible financing plans at participating travel agencies such Ark Travel Express, Horizon Travel & Tours, Pan Pacific Travel Corporation, Rakso Air Travel & Tours, and Travel Specialist Ventures. During the promotional time, visitors who make purchases from the participating partners can redeem unique gifts from KTO.

The K-pop soloist and ex-member of SISTAR, SOYOU, will fly all the way from Korea to play for Filipino fans on September 11, 2022, as part of the festivities. She will perform several of her most well-known songs, such as “I Miss You” from the Korean drama Goblin, “Rain” with EXO’s Baekhyun, and the international smash hit “Some” with Junggigo. Artists of Korean origin such as Painters and Superstick will also be in attendance at the Manila show. The two-day stage program will feature live musical performances, a travel quiz and conversation show, entertaining games, and a blend of modern and traditional activities.

NCT 127 Connects with Fans in Sold-Out First Solo Manila Concert

The link between NCT 127 and Philippine NCTzens became stronger than ever!

South Korean boy group NCT 127 made a triumphant return to the Philippine concert stage, staging for the first time a solo concert in the country last September 4.

The NCT sub-unit took over the SM Mall of Asia Arena amid the thunderous cheers of NCTzens who patiently waited for the moment to finally happen. The sold-out concert saw thousands of fans gather and color the arena with the neo pearl champagne, bracing the rains and giving their all to warmly welcome Taeyong, Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, and Haechan for NEO CITY: MANILA – The Link Tour.

    1 2 7 Squad goes wild

NCT 127 opened the highly-anticipated show with the ever-iconic “Kick It”, also marking the first time that the boys performed the song live in front of Filipino NCTzens. The boy group then followed the hyped-up energy with “Lemonade” from their 2021 studio album, Sticker, and “Simon Says” from their 2018 repackaged album, Regulate.

With unwavering energy, the members connected with their Filipino fans with excited greetings and relayed their joy to finally hold a solo concert in the country. Those excited greetings were reciprocated as the cheers of fans echoed loud and clear at the arena with neobongs lighting up the whole venue with their brightest lights.

NCT 127 went on to give NCTzens a concert they will never forget with performances of “Elevator”, “Dreamer”, and “Love Song”. Taeil then took over the concert stage, serenading with his superb vocals in “Another World” before teaming up with Haechan for “Love Sign”. The duo wowed as they collaborated in giving the best vocal show and stage with Taeil on the keyboard and Haechan awing the crowd with his dance. Taeyong, Johnny, Yuta, and Jaehyun took fans back to SM Rookies days with “Run Back 2 U (Bassbot).

The boys came together on stage for “Highway to Heaven” and “Breakfast” with NCTzens singing along and making sure the boys feel all the love that evening. Mark then got Manila screaming his name with his solo performance of “Vibration”. The cheers got louder with leader Taeyong, mesmerizing everyone with his stage of “Moonlight”. The temperature got hotter with Taeyong’s stage and the energy continues to go higher with Mark and Taeyong coming together to spit fire with “Himalaya”.

Jungwoo got the arena high with an immaculate stage of “Lipstick”. Still, not over the fired-up Jungwoo solo stage, the boys gave the crowd every reason to focus on them with “Focus”. But Johnny will not let NCTzens get over the continuous jaw-dropping moments as he goes all out in his solo dance number. Giving fans a moment to collect themselves, Jaehyun took it chill and lovely with “Lost” with the crowd completing the moment as they sing along with him.

No rainy night will ever stop NCTzens from welcoming NCT 127 warmly, and that warmth embraced the arena as the boys serenade with “The Rainy Night”, “White Night”, and “Back 2 U” — amid the beautiful neo pearl champagne ocean. The serenade went on with Doyoung’s solo stage of “The Reason Why It’s Favorite”.

Following the lovely serenades, the members took the energy up with “Favorite”, before bringing the noize louder and more intense with the highly-awaited stages of “Bring the Noize” and the crowd-favorite “Love on the Floor”.

Yuta then closed the set of fired up stages with his solo performance of “Butterfly”, dominating the stage with his expressive moves — truly flying high like a beautiful butterfly.

From NCT 127 to Czennies: Always thankful and I love you

After the sizzling stages, warmth enveloped the arena with the members’ touching messages for their dearest NCTzens. Taeyong, Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, and Haechan expressed their appreciation to the fans who enabled them to where they are and thanked them for their unwavering support.

Leader Taeyong wrote, “We were able to run even more because of your big love and support.” Maknae Haechan wrote, “I want to say thank you for always being with me through my good times. Let’s make much more memories with me, Haechan, and NCT 127.”

Mark also penned a beautiful letter to NCTzens:

Thank you to all of our NCTzens for being a part our dreams. It’s never a fulfilled show if there’s no NCTzen. So, thank you once again. Hope we can forever stay safe and see each other more often.

    NCT’s Mark

With love overflowing, NCT 127 returned on stage with “Paradise”, gifting the crowd with signed balls as they go around the stage. The most adorable performance of “Touch” came next, followed by “Love Me Know”. Truly the biggest hit on stage, nostalgia washed over with the stage of their legendary “Cherry Bomb”, before ending the concert with “Sticker”.

But a concert never ends without the encore stages. The Link Tour in Manila saw the boys back on stage with “Dreams Come True”. They then delivered their final messages to NCTzens who came to see them back on the Philippine concert stage. The members also promised to return to the country for, not only one but two or more shows as they also express admiration for the crowd’s energy and tireless cheers.

“We had such an amazing night. Even though the pandemic has been hard on everyone, thank you for continuing to support us. We will do our best to come back to Manila. So I hope you are all gonna support us. You are the reason we can be on stage. A big, big thank you, everyone! Thank you,” said Yuta in his final ment.

NCT 127 closed the concert with “Promise You” and a final greeting and bow for their Filipino NCTzens.

NEO CITY: MANILA – The Link Tour was a conclusion to the years of longing for a solo concert for NCT 127. Six years since their debut, the boys, with the unwavering support of NCTzens, came back, bringing their own world tour to the Philippines — truly a dream come true. And NCTzens made sure that Taeyong, Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, and Haechan feel their happiness and love as they fill the SM Mall of Asia Arena with a sold-out show and color it beautiful with their fandom color — MOA Arena truly turned green that Sunday night. It was beautiful with the strong connection of NCT 127 and NCTzens resonating loudly and clearly.

  • The Maine Makes a Formidable Return to the Philippine Concert Stage

The Maine Makes a Formidable Return to the Philippine Concert Stage

With a 15-year career under their belt, The Maine continue to put on t the most impressive show for their fans!

It’s hard to think that The Maine have been putting out music for more than fifteen years at this point, but the August 27 show, The Maine Back in Manila, at the Skydome, SM City North EDSA showcases the incredible career that the band has established — together with their devoted fans who shook the venue with their superb energy.

It has been three years since they last played in Manila and The Maine’s return to the Philippine concert stage proved that the fans are dying to hear their music live once again. The group has continued to demonstrate that they almost never get it wrong when it comes to the music that they create with the release of their eighth studio album titled XOXO: From Love & Anxiety In Real Time. One constant throughout their existence is the band’s unwavering commitment to being true to their own individual identities.

When I got there, I saw a long queue of people from mid-20s up to mid-30s, patiently waiting for the door to open. Before the show started, there was a buzz of excitement and anticipation in the crowd. Everyone was ready to sing and dance their way through the night. When Written By the Stars took the stage, they brought a lot of energy with them. Their songs resonate, turning casual listeners to fans, especially with “Runaway”.

And when the lights dimmed and The Maine gently took the stage, waving to their fans as “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond erupted from the speakers. John O’Callaghan, the band’s lead singer, snatched the mic with both hands and they launched into “Sticky”, the first track off of their most recent album, XOXO: From Love and Anxiety in Real Time. The Arizona rockers were all dressed in black jeans and black outlaw jackets. The audience was pumped up and ready to rock out with them. Kennedy Brock and Jared Monaco on guitars and Garrett Nickelsen on bass were killing it on opposite ends of the stage.

From a song that was only a year old, the band went right into “Like We Did (Windows Down)”, a song that celebrates a decade since its release. This was the second song of the night and the energy became more palpable. The Maine tried to get the crowd going and involved all the time.

Before performing “Numb Without You”, John talked to the crowd — “Are you okay at the back? I need thred years worth of scream.”

He then moved, sharing his experience during the peak of pandemic. “Turn around. Weโ€™re in a room full of f*** people right now. Live music is back!”

And the crowd didn’t dissapoint them as they gave all their energy on their full potential. Fans really fired up and I can’t remember how many times I had the sensation that the entire SM Skydome was shaking.

The entire night showed off how The Maine appreciates their audience and strives to create authentic and emotionally engaging music — reflected in the live show that they put on. The band continued performing song from one album to another such as “Am I Pretty?”, “Love in Real Time”, “Slip the Noose”,and “High Forever”.

An intimate place like the Skydome made the show even more special and personal. They played the first live performance of their unreleased song called “Box in a Heart” — a special memory that the fans present that night will surely keep for a lifetime.

With “Another Night on Mars” as the last song and confetti falling down, the crowd took over the last part of the song.

With material spanning more than 15 years, The Maine played a memorable set in Manila, alternating between songs from various albums and fan favorites such as “Growing Up”, “Diet Soda Society”, “Run”, and “Into Your Arms”. If there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s that The Maine enjoy making music and performing together, and that they are appreciative of everyone who supports them. This is the reason they have my affection. Their music conveys their appreciation for the support they have received in following their creative ambitions.

  • Louis Tomlinson drops new song, ‘Bigger Than Me’

Louis Tomlinson drops new song, ‘Bigger Than Me’

Louis Tomlinson triumphantly returns with the first single โ€˜Bigger Than Meโ€™, taken from his forthcoming second album, ‘Faith In The Future’ that will be released on 11th November 2022.

The record is the first new music from Louis since the release of his million selling debut solo album ‘Walls’ in 2020. Written by Louis, Rob Harvey and Red Triangle, and produced by Mike Crossey (The 1975 and Wolf Alice), โ€˜Bigger Than Me is an impassioned pop song with a gargantuan and emotional chorus.

It was my first moment of excitement making this record, and where it felt we were on to something which honours the live show” Louis says.

I’ve always strived to be a very normal, humble person in this life, but there’s a line to that and a responsibility that comes from being in this position. I realised from doing those live shows what it means to my fans and how everything I do is bigger than me. It’s almost a coming of age for myself and putting opinions about myself to the back of my mind and thinking about what it potentially means for other people.

โ€˜Bigger Than Meโ€™ is taken from the upcoming album โ€˜Faith In The Futureโ€™. Louis announced the album yesterday and it is available for pre-order now here:

    https://louist.lnk.to/FaithInTheFuturePR

Alongside Crossey, Louis has collaborated on the upcoming album with celebrated names such as Rob Harvey, Dan Grech (The Killers, The Vaccines, Halsey), Nico Rebscher (Alice Merton), Joe Cross (Courteeners), and Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft. Whilst recording the album, Louis had a core aim: to produce a collection of songs befitting an anthemic live show โ€” a task he’s risen to with aplomb.

In 2021, Louis was listed in the Guinness Book Of World Records for breaking the record for the most livestreamed concert by a solo male artist. Louis hosted one of the biggest live stream concert events of 2020, selling over 160,000 tickets to fans in over 110 countries and raising funds for several important charities and touring crew affected by the pandemic.

Louis is currently travelling the globe with his massive sold out World Tour which has so far visited UK, Europe, USA and South America. The tour has included 19 sold out arena dates in Latin America, a sell out night at London’s Wembley Arena and a highly emotional homecoming concert at The Dome in Louis’s home town of Doncaster. The tour recently visited Asia and Australia for nine more sell out shows. In total the tour has sold a phenomenal 500,000 tickets globally and will finish this Saturday with a sold out Stadium show at Milanโ€™s Ippodromo Snai San Siro.

He also recently held the return of his highly successful festival ‘Away From Homeโ€™. Following the huge success of the festival’s 2021 debut, the 2022 one day festival was staged at the stunning Marenostrum Fuengirola, Malaga Spain, hosting 18,000 fans this month.

Conceived and curated by Louis himself, the festival was designed to shine a light on new British talent. This year the event sold out in just 24 hours and featured a stellar line-up including English Indie-rock band The Vaccines and Madrid based Indie band Hinds, alongside Sun Room and Northern British Alt-punk band Stone. Louis also performed a full special headline set to close out the day. The 2021 bill included Essex punk band Bilk and Scottish No.1 album seller The Snuts.

Louisโ€™s million selling smash debut solo album ‘Walls’ hit Top 4 in the UK and Top 10 in the USA, with Louis picking up the Best Song Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for ‘Two Of Us’, and an iHeart Award for ‘Best Solo Breakoutโ€™. He also won an EMA Award for ‘Best UK & Ireland Act’ in 2017, and โ€˜Artist Of The Summer’ in Philly radio station 96.5 TDY’s annual awards.

  • The Manila Symphony Orchestra Played their Video Games Symphonic Very Well

The Manila Symphony Orchestra Played their Video Games Symphonic Very Well

On August 26, the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) held their Video Games Symphonic at the Ayala Museum, their 2nd show of the same kind since May 2019. Apparently, this particular show was so in demand, tickets got sold out on the 1st week of its release. The concert also had a virtual screening via Zoom for those who were unable to go to the venue.

Under the baton of Maestro Marlon Chen, the Manila Symphony Orchestra performed a one-hour concert that turned out to be a dream-come-true for gamers and anime fans across different generations. It featured soundtracks from powerhouse titles like the Nintendo classic Super Mario Bros, the 2D wonder game Undertale (โ€œMegalovaniaโ€) and the highly popular open-world RPG Genshin Impact (โ€œRapid as Wildfiresโ€).

The enduring Final Fantasy series had its time in the limelight with the action-packed โ€œOpening – Bombing Missionโ€ from FFVII Remake and the bittersweet โ€œTo Zanarkandโ€ from FFX, both composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

The show was also a treat for anime fans as MSO performed tracks from Ghibli movies Kikiโ€™s Delivery Service (โ€œA Town with an Ocean Viewโ€) and My Neighbor Totoro (the main theme) composed by Joe Hisaishi.. A stand-out performance was their heart-rending and soul-permeating rendition of Shiro Sagisuโ€™s โ€œNever Meant to Belongโ€ from the anime Bleach, featuring a violin solo from the orchestraโ€™s Concert Master Diomedes Saraza Jr.

Other songs that were part of the program were Monster Hunterโ€™s โ€œProof of a Heroโ€ and Assassin’s Creedโ€™s โ€œUnder the Black Flagโ€. For the encore, MSO played the theme from Mobile Legendโ€™s.

    โ€”

Video games have come a long way from the flat, black and white pixels on Game Boy to the mind-blowingly pore-accurate textures of the PlayStation 5. Playing video games is a gateway to living in a different world, one as wide as wide as your imagination can take you.ย

If youโ€™ve ever sat through an hour of playing Super Mario on Game Boy in the โ€˜90s, (trying your best to avoid mushrooms and monsters and jumping across bricks), you can probably call upon its main theme by memory alone. Likewise, Final Fantasy, especially during the PS1 Era when the games did not have any vocal narrations, had such distinctive soundtracks that even now, you can hum the Victory Fanfare or the world map theme without much effort.

The experience of playing video games, virtual as it may be, is driven and remembered not only by its visuals and story, but also by its soundtrack. Itโ€™s amazing that the Manila Symphony Orchestra spends enough of their time, effort and skills to pay homage to those pieces with a high-caliber performance. Every pull of the string, every silencing pause and every pulsating beat bring to memory the stories of the heroes and villains of video games we loved, and along with them, our struggle to keep progressing to the next phase.

The Video Games Symphonic was a top-notch orchestral, worth every minute. In fact, I only wished it had gone on longer and the orchestra played more songs. Fortunately, I was also able to attend their show in 2019, and after their show last Thursday, I can definitely say that they improved a lot. They retained a few songs from their old setlist such as โ€œTo Zanarkandโ€, โ€œProof of a Heroโ€ and โ€œUnder the Black Flagโ€ which were still as enthralling to listen to live. The new setlist additions from Undertale and Genshin Impact were so masterfully played, even if you are not too familiar with the games, youโ€™d still feel the thrill from the music alone.

Too early to say, but Iโ€™m already looking forward to the next installment and the next MSO performance, hopefully with a longer setlist and a much-deserved bigger audience.

The Manila Symphony Orchestra is set to perform in Tokyo, Japan in October as part of the Asia Orchestra Week, organized by the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras. They’ll also be having a send-off concert on September 29.
