The biggest names behind the 1970s Manila Sound are coming together for one of the grandest celebrations of Filipino music. Sumayaw Sumunod: The Manila Sound Reunion Concert takes center stage at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on August 1, 2026. The one-night concert revisits the disco fever, pop sensations, folk anthems, soulful performances, and rock classics that defined an era.

Headlining the concert are Lolita Carbon of Asin, Pat Castillo, The Rainmakers, Joey Abando of The Boyfriends, Gino Padilla, Rey Magtoto and Nonoy Tan of Wadab, Mon Espia of Labuyo, Monet Gaskell and Male Rigor of VST & Co., and the Queen of Pinoy Rock, Sampaguita.

Among the featured performers is Lolita Carbon, one of the country’s most respected folk icons and the voice of the legendary band Asin. Audiences can look forward to timeless, soulful classics including “Masdan Mo ang Kapaligiran,” “Balita,” “Ang Bayan Kong Sinilangan,” and “Himig ng Pag-ibig.”

Joining her is acclaimed jazz and soul vocalist Pat Castillo, whose sophisticated voice first gained national attention as a core member of The Circus Band, widely regarded as one of the country’s greatest live performing ensembles.

Representing the flawless vocal group harmony of the Manila Sound era are The Rainmakers, whose rich vocal arrangements and feel-good pop sound made them radio favorites during the 1970s with signature hits like “Binibini” and “Ok Sa Akin.”

Fans of classic OPM romance will welcome Joey Abando, fronting the timeless catalog of The Boyfriends. The group produced some of the era’s most enduring soundtracks for courtship and young love, such as “Dahil Sa Iyo,” “Nais Kong Malaman Mo,” “Kahapon Lamang,” and the concert’s iconic namesake, “Sumayaw, Sumunod.”

Adding a smooth ’80s pop flavor is Gino Padilla, one of the country’s most recognizable voices whose heartfelt ballads became massive chart-toppers. Audiences can prepare to sing along to his signature classics, including “Closer You and I,” “Gusto Kita,” and “Let the Love Begin.”

The concert also happily reunites Rey Magtoto and Nonoy Tan of Wadab, whose smooth pop-soul musicianship and exceptional studio songwriting made them major favorites during the Manila Sound movement. Their timeless recordings, including “Pag Tumatagal… Lalong Tumitibay,” “Iniibig Kita,” “Tsismis Ka,” and the funky, bass-driven “Ang Jeepney,” remain staple anthems of local pop history.

Representing an essential chapter of sophisticated groove is Mon Espia of Labuyo, a band celebrated for blending smooth jazz, soul, and rock elements with distinctly Filipino sensibilities. Espia will bring to the stage their crowning achievement: the legendary, comforting anthem “Tuloy Pa Rin.”

Disco naturally takes the spotlight with Monet Gaskell and Male Rigor, two original pillars of VST & Co., arguably the definitive Manila Sound dance band. Their infectious grooves produced some of the country’s biggest dance hits, including “Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko,” “Rock Baby Rock,” “Disco Fever,” “Magsayawan,” and “Swing It Baby,” which shaped the dance floor culture of an entire generation.

Completing the legendary lineup is Sampaguita, the iconic Queen of Pinoy Rock, whose commanding stage presence and uncompromising vocals broke barriers for women in the local rock scene. Her heavy-hitting classics “Nosi Ba Lasi,” “Laguna,” “Tao,” and the ultimate party track “Bonggahan” remain permanent staples of OPM.

Whether audiences grew up with these songs or are discovering them for the first time, Sumayaw Sumunod: The Manila Sound Reunion Concert promises an evening of nostalgia, celebration, and proudly Filipino music.
