Bagets The Musical, the stage adaptation of the iconic 1984 Filipino coming-of-age film, received six citations in the first round of the 17th Gawad Buhay Awards, recognizing members of the cast for their performances in the musical.

Noel Comia Jr., who portrayed Gilbert; Milo Cruz, who played Tonton; KD Estrada, who took on the role of Arnel; and Sam Shoaf, who played Topee, were cited for Male Lead Performance in a Musical. Yani Lopez received a citation for Female Featured Performance in a Musical for her portrayal of Rose, while Gie Onida was cited for Male Featured Performance in a Musical for his role as Erpats.

The Gawad Buhay Awards citations determine which productions, performers, and production elements are eligible for consideration in the final nominations for the 2027 ceremonies. The citations were deliberated upon by an independent jury composed of theater practitioners, journalists, reviewers, and academics.
Bagets The Musical was presented by Newport World Resorts, in association with VIVA Communications, The Philippine STAR, and staged by PETA Plus. The musical ran from January to March 2026.

The citations mark another milestone for the partnership, which continues with its second major theatrical production, Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical. The new Filipino musical brings the timeless hits of Hotdog band to the Newport Performing Arts Theater beginning September 18, 2026.
