  • New K-Fantasy ‘Genie, Make a Wish’ Trailer Blends Magic, Mischief, and Romance

New K-Fantasy ‘Genie, Make a Wish’ Trailer Blends Magic, Mischief, and Romance

The official trailer for “Genie, Make a Wish“, the highly-anticipated K-fantasy romantic comedy that stars Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy as a power couple, has been released by Netflix. The teaser blends contemporary psychological intrigue with aspects of ancient folklore. On October 3, the series will make its worldwide premiere.

In a thrilling romance that has the potential to end both of their worlds, it promises a deliciously sinister confrontation between a stoic master with psychopathic secrets and a thousand-year-old genie with devilish tendencies. “He’s not your average genie; he’s a truly evil one,” says the eerie voiceover of Genie (Kim Woo-bin), the main character, at the beginning of the trailer, which was released on Netflix. The scene alternates between Seoul’s neon-lit streets and Dubai’s lavish souks. As Genie entices her with forbidden fantasies and Ka-young coldly and precisely shoots down his plans, their relationship devolves into a game of wills and wits.

Three wishes that will permanently alter their lives bind them together in a deadly wager. “Genie, Make a Wish” is fundamentally about the thrilling conflict between chaos and control. Ka-young (Bae Suzy) has suppressed her darker impulses into a life of rigid routines and emotional numbness because she was raised by her strict grandmother. However, Genie awakens after a thousand years of sleep and brings a storm of magic, mischief, and possibly even love with him when she spontaneously travels to Dubai and retrieves the enchanted lamp.

The renowned Kim Eun-sook (“Goblin”, “The Glory”) wrote the script and Lee Byung-hun directed the 12-episode series.

There is no doubt that after October 3, spirits imprisoned in bottles and wish-granters will never be the same. “Genie, Make a Wish” will only be available for streaming on Netflix on October 3rd.
