  • RYO SAEBA’S LATEST EXPLOITS IN ANIME FILM CITY HUNTER THE MOVIE: ANGEL DUST Exclusive at SM Cinemas on November 8

RYO SAEBA’S LATEST EXPLOITS IN ANIME FILM CITY HUNTER THE MOVIE: ANGEL DUST Exclusive at SM Cinemas on November 8

The final chapter begins in the long-awaited theatrical release of City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust with the film’s main protagonist Ryo Saeba, a highly-skilled gunman and most-sought “sweeper” working tirelessly to get rid of crimes in the city of Tokyo.

A non-stop hyper-action anime film, City Hunter the Movie: Angel Dust is based on the latest manga finale where Ryo faces his dark past and stops a new breed of enemies designed to become super soldiers injected with nanomachines known as Angel Dust.

Celebrating the anime series’ 35th anniversary, City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust is the newest theatrical anime film produced by Aniplex and animated by Sunrise. Ryo Saeba, aka City Hunter, will do anything from being a bodyguard to contract killing but will only take the job if a pretty woman is involved. Together with Kaori Makimura, the younger sister of his late best friend Hideyuki, Ryo fights the evil haunting the shadows of the city.

The film follows Ryo and Kaori taking on a new client named Angie who seemed to have lost her cat while touring the city. Constantly attracted to beautiful women, Kaori strictly watches over Ryo’s advanced moves towards Angie to help him focus on the mission. Meanwhile, Saeko Nogami of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, with the help of Umibozu and Miki, investigates an invention of a new technology designed to create soldiers with unparalleled strength and skills.  The same dark technology is the latest version of the Angel Dust that caused the death of Ryo’s partner.

The movie landed #1 in Japan’s box-office when it opened and has so far earned more than US$6million in domestic alone. Anime and movie fans can look forward to a non-stop action movie and will be delightfully surprised with cameos from their favorite anime characters.

From Encore Films distributed by Warner Bros., City Hunter the Movie: Angel Dust opens soon exclusively at SM Cinemas on November 8.

  • TIGHTEN YOUR SEATBELTS IN LIAM NEESON’S LATEST HIGH-OCTANE ACTION FILM “RETRIBUTION”OPENS AUGUST 23 IN LOCAL CINEMAS

TIGHTEN YOUR SEATBELTS IN LIAM NEESON’S LATEST HIGH-OCTANE ACTION FILM “RETRIBUTION”OPENS AUGUST 23 IN LOCAL CINEMAS

With no particular set of skills, Liam Neeson takes on the role of an ordinary man who steps on the driver’s seat in the upcoming high-speed movie Retribution who must follow a stranger’s instructions while being trapped in the car with his children and avert dangerous consequences triggering series of deaths along the way.

Set in Berlin, Retribution follows a successful businessman who discovers on his way to work that a bomb has been planted in his car by an unknown assailant. But for all his killer instincts when it comes to business, Matt Turner can’t possibly foresee what is about to happen next. On the way to school, a phone that doesn’t belong to him or either of his children rings inside the car. And, when Matt answers, his terrible situation is revealed to him by a mystery caller: there are pressurized bombs under their seats, that will detonate if Matt tries to get anyone out of the car, calls the cops, or – and this is critical – fails to follow a set of increasingly dangerous instructions. Matt Turner, it’s clear, is going to have to work extremely hard to keep his family alive and figure out why this is happening to him.

The film’s producers Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, who also produced the box-office action hits Unknown, Non-Stop and the Commuter reflect on the many perilous on- screen predicaments they have put Liam Neeson into over the past decade, across a hugely successful run of action pictures that have become a modern thumbprint for high-concept, high octane big screen experiences.

“Over our time with Liam, we’ve got to crash a plane and derail a train. In Retribution we are blowing cars up, all over Berlin, reaching an electrifying peak by placing Neeson’s unwitting but resourceful everyman, Matt Turner, and his two children in a car that has pressure-triggered bombs rigged under their seats. Bombs that will detonate unless Matt follows a strict set of rules dictated to him down the phone by a mysterious, malevolent caller.

“The concept of it is so immediate and engaging and it’s got themes that really resonate, like money and greed. It’s a movie, Neeson says, that you will leave with a better appreciation of what truly matters. For me, that’s it. What’s really important. Sometimes you need to remember to take the time to smell the roses, to sit back and enjoy things. So that’s my advice on this. Sit back and enjoy it.”

Retribution also stars Jack Champion (best known for his recent role in Avatar: Way of the Water), Lilly Aspell (played young Wonder Woman), Matthew Modine (Oppenheimer, Stranger Things) and Embeth Davidtz (Tales of the Walking Dead series).

Buckle up tight for a non-stop thrilling road trip action spectacle when Retribution opens on August 23 in cinemas nationwide.

  • Respeto: A Movie You Should Not Miss.

Respeto: A Movie You Should Not Miss.

We had a chance to see the much lauded movie last night during its full house screening in UP Diliman Film Center and we were blown away. Before the screening, Rekta sa Kalye, a group of rappers who conduct street performances, took the stage to give the audience a glimpse of the booming local hip hop scene. Quite frankly, this was the proper premise to the movie we were about to see.

Hailed as the Best Film of the recently concluded Cinemalaya Film Festival, “Respeto” follows the story of Hendrix, played by Abra, an adolescent who lives and breathes in the slums of Pandacan. Embroiled in a decaying urban environment, imminent with the threat of demolitions, crimes and tokhang, he finds solace in rapping and in his dream of making it big one day. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Doc, an old reclusive poet who runs a thrift bookstore across the neighborhood. Their unlikely friendship brought about changes that would patch up their past wounds and open new ones.

“Respeto” provided a gripping portrayal of the cyclical oppression in our society and how it pushes people to mercilessly succumb to it. The story fleshed out the characters in a very simplistic yet realistic way, making their struggles more human and their reflections more distinctly affecting. Highlighted by a sophisticated cinematography style, the scenes featured a diversely vibrant landscape of the underground world the characters move around.

An outstanding element of “Respeto” is the music. As it delved deep into the local underground hip hop scene, it featured many remarkable rappers who showed their skills during their ad-lib rap battles. Even the actors themselves had as much talent to show for it. Moreover, it’s amazing how the film flawlessly merged poetry and rap into its core. There’s a subtle musical quality even as when the characters were just delivering their lines, truly a marvel to watch.

“Respeto” is currently being screened in theaters nationwide. Do yourself a favor and see it.
