Following the breakout success of their debut single, “Telebong (Hello Po),” eight-member P-pop girl group MEI MEI returns with “Alembong,” the second release from their forthcoming HELLO PO! EP. Produced by Groovy Garden Records, the track further cements the group’s mission of reintroducing novelty pop to a new generation through infectious melodies, unapologetic confidence, and distinctly Filipino storytelling.
While “Telebong (Hello Po)” introduced listeners to MEI MEI’s playful and energetic charm, “Alembong” embraces a bolder, sassier persona. Packed with powerful vocals, fiery rap verses, and dynamic choreography, the song celebrates femininity, self-confidence, and the strength of embracing one’s individuality.
“As if ‘Alembong’ was a person, she would be a baddie! Her walk, her style, and her confidence would really have you hooked,” shares “Spark MEI MEI” Alexa, describing the spirit of the group’s latest release.
The members hold a special connection to the song, as “Alembong” was the first track they recorded together as a group. “Diva MEI MEI” Dina affectionately calls it her “first love,” comparing the song to halo-halo for its colorful blend of different flavors that come together into one uniquely Filipino experience.
For “Groovy MEI MEI” Yuni, the song represents the essence of the group itself.
“Whenever I listen to it, it just makes me feel so alive and dance-y. I love how it feels so uniquely Filipino in a way that a lot of people can appreciate, because it also reminds me of the classic Filipino sound while still having its own sound and identity.”
The accompanying music video fully embraces that Filipino identity. Set against familiar neighborhood streets, vibrant community spaces, and a lively fiesta backdrop, the visual transforms everyday local scenery into an energetic celebration of culture, confidence, and youthful expression. Complemented by colorful production design and performance-driven choreography, the video captures the spirited personality that defines both the song and the group.
Behind the scenes, the recording process reflected MEI MEI’s close-knit chemistry. According to leader “Power MEI MEI” Jessie, the song’s closing segment was recorded with all eight members gathered around a single microphone.
“The ending part in ‘Alembong,’ we all recorded it with one mic. Our interaction and laughter were all real, and it was so fun to do.”
The laughter heard in the track was equally authentic. “Sweet MEI MEI” Aerise recalls that recording the group’s laughter unexpectedly became one of the most memorable moments of the session.
“We had to record our laughter one by one. I thought it would be hard, pero we did it smoothly kasi the atmosphere at that time was already funny.”
MEI MEI enters this release with considerable momentum. Their debut single, “Telebong (Hello Po),” generated more than two million views across official and user-generated content on digital platforms while surpassing half a million views on its official music video within its first month.
With two tracks now unveiled from the upcoming HELLO PO! EP, anticipation continues to build for the group’s next chapter. Through infectious hooks, playful storytelling, and proudly Filipino concepts, MEI MEI is steadily carving out its own space in today’s thriving P-pop landscape.
