Trolls Band Together, directed by Walt Dohrn.

After two films of true friendship and relentless flirting, Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) are now officially, finally, a couple (#broppy)! • Legendary Guitar Hero SLASH to rock Manila in March 2024 with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators

Legendary Guitar Hero SLASH to rock Manila in March 2024 with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators

British-American award-winning guitarist Saul Hudson, professionally known as Slash, brings “THE RIVER IS RISING – REST OF THE WORLD TOUR ‘24” to Manila!

There’s not much to say when you’re voted the second-best electric guitar player of all time, second only to Jimi Hendrix, or one of the one hundred greatest guitarists OF ALL TIME; when your work has defined an entire generation of hard rock/metal and continues to move and inspire a generation of musicians and songwriters; when – through the decades – you are sought-after by the biggest names across numerous genres who want to collaborate and share the stage with you.

Yep – there is only one Slash. His chops and ability to create some of the most memorable guitar moments of the 20th and 21st centuries are as easily recognizable as his image: signature top hat and Gibson Les Paul included. Serious rock fans – especially Filipino rock fans – who have admired and worshipped his work will lose their minds with the news that Slash and Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators will be returning to Manila via Peace Integrated Marketing, Sin Ye Long, and Jasper Production. The show will be produced by PULP LIVE WORLD (in partnership with Dragon Art Entertainment, The Rock Promotions, and Peace Integrated Marketing) who notably was the first to bring in Slash way back in May 2013.

    Slash

The show – which is part of The River Is Rising Tour 2024 – will take place on March 12, 2024, at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City. Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 1, 2023, and will be made available through TicketNet Outlets nationwide and online through ticketnet.ph.

Check out the seat plan and ticket prices below:

    • VIP A – Php 8,250
    • VIP B – Php 6,250
    • VIP C – Php 4,850
    • LOGE – Php 6,250
    • BALCONY – Php 3,500
    Slash

An original member of the phenomenal late 80s hard rock group Guns N’ Roses, Slash (born Saul Hudson) has played, collaborated, and toured with the likes of Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Rihanna, Carole King, Bob Dylan and Paul Rodgers to name a very distinct few. After the worldwide success of Guns N’ Roses, Slash formed a side project Slash’s Snakepit which also found critical success, but by 2002, made waves with his new group Velvet Revolver, which featured former bandmates Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and the last, great Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots.

By 2009, Slash finally released his self-titled solo debut which featured a veritable who’s-who of popular music: Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Dave Grohl, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop and Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. Though it was his music, he wasn’t alone and was actually in good company, as it morphed years later into an excellent working relationship with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators which he has released a total of four critically acclaimed full-length albums, namely 2012’s Apocalyptic Love, 2014’s World on Fire, 2018’s Living The Dream and last year’s straightforwardly monikered 4.

Of course, when the news was first announced via social media that Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators was returning to Manila, an almost immediate frenzy among Filipino music fans broke out online. Having since rejoined Guns N’ Roses and playing venues worldwide for the past few years, Slash has since reclaimed his throne as the greatest, and most important guitarist of all time. So fans can definitely expect another explosive, high-voltage true-to-the-bone hard rock show next year, so save the date and buy your tickets now!

Barbie Almalbis releases new synth-pop single “Wicked Heart”

The award-winning singer-songwriter finds herself reflecting on misguided actions based on emotions.

Multi-awarded singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis wraps up her tremendous year in music with the release of “Wicked Heart,” her new single under 12 Stone Records and Sony Music Entertainment.

Barbie’s new song reflects on the repercussions of making rash decisions out of emotion. According to Barbie, “Wicked Heart” also presents the rhetoric that while our desires and emotions are a beautiful part of who we are and how we experience life, there must be something “truer” than the heart.

    Barbie Almalbis

The Dahilan artist recalls a personal experience in the past involving a misguided action that she regretted doing.

“I was thinking about how following your heart can lead to trouble sometimes,” the Filipino alt-rock icon explains. “I want to follow my heart, but it’s always changing its mind. It’s definitely something I’ve personally been through, but it also takes inspiration from the verse in Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

Written and produced by Barbie Almalbis herself, with Jorel Corpus and Jett Galindo on mixing and mastering duties, respectively, “Wicked Heart” hits the high mark with its refreshing mix of ‘80s influences and pastel synths. Delivering a whopper of a pop anthem, Barbie initially penned the track on a “guitalele” to harness a different dimension and vibe.

Barbie reveals, “Writing on a new, different instrument makes the process feel exciting and fresh sometimes. As the song progressed, I realized I didn’t hear much guitar in it, so I asked my bandmate Nikko Rivera to fill the whole thing with keys and synth parts, and he sent me like 10 layers of things. I just added a little bit of guitar later on, so that I’ll have something to do when we play it live. Karel played bass on it, and Jonard played the drums.”

Barbie Almalbis recently celebrated her 25th year in the music scene with a concert chronicling her career as one of the most influential figures in Pinoy alternative rock. She also recently released her debut solo record, Parade, on vinyl for the first time. To date, Almalbis is working on new songs and collaborations for future releases.

“Wicked Heart” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.

  • The Many Sides of Joey G.

The Many Sides of Joey G.

Joey G., short for Joey Generoso, held his solo concert titled Side Ko Lang… at the New Frontier Theater on November 5.

Best known as the frontman of the premiere OPM band Side A during the 90s up to his departure in 2015, Joey G. took the Filipino crowd on an exceptional trip to the 80s and 90s with an exceptional live concert presented by Random Minds.

Indie pop band Project: Romeo from Cavite was the opening act for the evening. They performed covers of “Panalangin” by Apo Hiking Society, “Burnout” by Sugarfree, and their original song “Tugon”.

Wearing a stylish set of all-black jackets and jeans, matched with a pair of shades, Joey G. made his appearance to the crowd. Backed by a magnificent live band, composed of Tat Suzara, Rickson Ruiz, Mark Decena, Donna Moreno, Roji Soriano, and Music Director Bobby Velasco, the concert was an enjoyable treat for fans.

They played medleys of the top hits from the 80s straight up to the 90s including “I Feel For You” by Chaka Khan, “The Search Is Over” by Survivor”, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith, “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins.

Side Ko Lang… might have sounded a tad bit controversial as a title, given the circumstances, but the concert was anything but. As Joey G said, as if alluding to his departure from the band, “Wala akong side. If anything, I’m on everyone’s side”. The concert was meant to show his different strengths. More than anything, it was a celebration of his enduring career in music, and he made sure the crowd enjoyed every bit of it.

Juris, who admitted she is a big fan of Joey G., graced the stage for a moving duet of “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough”. She also performed “Di Lang Ikaw” and “I’ll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me”.

The energy was at an all-time high when he played the classic Side A songs like “Tuloy Pa Rin”, “Hold On”, “Tell Me” and for the grand finale (which everyone was screaming for), “Forevermore”.

    Special thanks to Random Minds!

The walls of the SM Skydome echoed with thunderous applause as the American rock band, Saosin, unleashed a sonic storm, igniting the stage with an unforgettable performance last November 3.

Kicking off the electrifying, full-house evening—the first of the two-day concert of Saosin in Manila—was the Thai alternative metal band Defying Decay. They roused the crowd, setting the adrenaline to fever pitch and laying the groundwork for an explosive night of rock euphoria.

Amidst an atmosphere crackling with anticipation, Saosin exploded onto the stage, delivering a powerhouse opening with hits like “It’s Far Better to Learn,” “Sleepers,” “Lost Symphonies,” and “Bury Your Head.” Lead vocalist Cove Reber took a moment to express profound gratitude to the Filipino fans, acknowledging their unwavering loyalty over the years.
