  • The Boyz Beginย a New Story with The Bs at ZENERATION in Manila

The Boyz Beginย a New Story with The Bs at ZENERATION in Manila

A new story of The Boyz and Philippine The Bs unfolded last July 15 at The Big Dome as the boy group brings their ZENERATION Tour to the country.

Zeneration, according to Kevin, represents people with a common state of mind who experience the same generation and culture โ€” like The Boyz and The Bs. It is a stage to show a new story of Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, Eric, and their fans in 2023.

And true to these words, a new story was told last July 15 at the Araneta Coliseum. Lightsticks up and cheers loud and proud, The Bs in the Philippines welcomed with resounding excitement the boy group to their first solo concert in the country. THE BOYZ 2ND WORLD TOUR: ZENERATION IN MANILA was a promise made true and a dream realized. Although the boys have performed on the local concert stage a couple of times, with the latest visit happening in April this year for an omnibus concert, the July 15 concert marked their highly-awaited first solo concert in the Philippines since their debut in 2017.

Performing a total of 20 songs in a concert that spanned more than two hours, The Boyz took The Bs on a journey โ€”traveling through time from their debut to their present zeneration โ€” with a setlist that saw them perform their songs from 2017 to 2023.

Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric began the show with “Ego” and “Reveal” from their debut studio album, Reveal, released in 2020. They then allowed the crowd to marvel at their performances of “Awake” and “ROAR” from their 2023 extended play, Be Awake.

And the ultimate throwback came on in the second set of performances, when the members, dressed in casual/school looks, brought back “I’m Your Boy” from their debut EP, The First, followed by “Text Me Back” from their second EP. The Start, “KeePer” from their first single album, The Sphere, and “Only ONE” from their third EP, The Only.

A+ for effort should be granted to The Boyz also as they made it their serious business to learn Filipino and communicate their words to the fans in the local language. More than the usual “mahal ko kayo“, “mabuhay“, and “salamat po“, we got to hear sweet and adorable messages of “Ako si Eric! Ang inyong boyfriend!”, โ€œMabuhay! Kamusta ang beshy ko? Nagagalak akong makita kayong muli.โ€, “Philippine The B, maganda! Natutuwa akong nandito.”, “Na-miss na-miss na-miss na ko kayo.”, among others.

The energy, as Jacob described, was definitely crazy as there was no shortage of cheer and applause from the crowd. The passionate enthusiasm intensified with the continuation of the performances of “Whisper”, “Water”, “Thrill Ride”, and “D.D.D”. With a short break, the members, handsome in white, returned on stage in a dreamy medley of “Lucid Dream”, “Daydream”, “Butterfly”, and “Wings”. And the dreams then turned into the most beautiful nightmare as Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric re-emerged for the “Nightmares” stage.

Contrasting the white outfits they donned prior, The Boyz took on their charisma to a new high with a black-and-white ensemble for “Russian Roulette”, and “Insanity”. With a total of 20 songs, the setlist was packed with tracks from the boy group that showcased their different colors and charms โ€”yet there are well-loved songs that unfortunately did not make the cut. But The Boyz, in all their love for their The Bs, understood and treated them with a snippet of “The Stealer” and promised to return to perform all the songs their fans wanted to see. Ending the set of charisma-high stages, the boy group performed their 2021 hit, “Maverick”, from the single album of the same name.

The Boyz then diverted from the usual encore fit as they came back on stage looking princely in white tops and black bottoms โ€”ready to serenade The Bs with “Spring Snow” and “Horizon”.

Eric then greeted The Bs with the sweetest “Happy five years and seven months to my forever”, adding he wants to be with The Bs forever. And one after the other, the members relayed their gratitude to the fans who have become their horizon. “I think each one of you will be remembered in my mind like a photo. Thank you. See you.” New said.

Jacob also expressed his appreciation to the fans who showed up despite the heavy rains. “From start to finish, you guys have been amazing. Your energy is amazing. It’s been a long time since my ears have hurt from the screaming. Thank you so much for your love and your energy. I feel like we’ll be able to take this and work harder to come back with better music for you guys. We will be back. Please wait for us. Thank you so much! Mahal kita,” he added. Haknyeon and Q echoed this promise to come back and give their best.

Hyunjae reflected on their first solo concert in the Philippines, noting that it made up for all the years they have been unable to perform for their Filipino fans. “I really wanna say to our Filipino The Bs that we thank you so much. Today, I really had a happy moment with you. We will come back.” Younghoon also expressed his happiness to have had the concert and asked fans to look forward to their comeback in August. Similarly, Juyeon thanked fans for coming today โ€” for giving him energy today. “Let’s cheer each other up and have happy lives together.”

Sunwoo said his farewell message while adorably granting fans’ requests randomly in the middle of his speech. “Thank you so much for enjoying the show with us and we will come back to the Philippines with more energy,” he added. Sangyeon got his Filipino words out one last time, saying “Natutuwa akong makilala kayo. Nandito ako para makita ka.” He went on to say that the Philippines always gives him good memories. “I wanna come here more often and see our Philippine The Bs more often too. I love Philippines! Mahal kita.”

“Itโ€™s actually so crazy โ€˜cause Iโ€™ve been there. I have been where you guys are standingโ€ฆ I know whatโ€™s that like. And to have someone do that for me and for The Boyz. Itโ€™s actually so amazing and I feel so blessed today. You guys, every time we come to the Philippines, you have unmatched energy and I canโ€™t get enough of it. Thank you, guys, so so much for making time for us tonight. I promise weโ€™ll be back.”

    KEVIN

Eric also expressed his astonishment at the Philippine concert crowd’s seemingly unmatched energy. “I rarely see people with louder voices than me. Every single one of you here beat meโ€ฆ Shout out to you guys and congrats. Thank you.” And with those words, The Boyz once again โ€”for the last time that eveningโ€” took the stage with their 2022 single, “Timeless”, from Be Aware.

As Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric exited the stage, handwritten letters from them filled the screenโ€” letters of love and gratitude to The Bs who, throughout every zeneration, has stood by them. And this gratitude went both ways as The Bs made sure the members knew how they, too, got through the dark times with The Boyz and their music.

THE BOYZ 2ND WORLD TOUR: ZENERATION IN MANILA was presented by DNM Entertainment and In2une Entertainment. Special thanks to DNM Entertainment for the invitation.

Third Timeโ€™s A Charm: NECK DEEP is Coming Back to Manila

MODERN POP PUNK HEROES, NECK DEEP, ARE RETURNING TO MANILA THIS 2023!

This September, kids will once again have a reason to sing, rejoice and jump in the pit because PULP Live World is bringing back one of the most energetic and infectious bands that have graced our shores. NECK DEEP returns to the Philippine concert stage on September 22, 2023, at the SM North EDSA Skydome.

Though the proverbial saying is that the third timeโ€™s a charm, thereโ€™s absolutely no denying that Welsh pop-punk outfit NECK DEEP has consistently brought the goods and exceeded all expectations of their loyal Filipino fans throughout the years. With fast-paced rhythms, humongous choruses, and anthemic tunes that have seemingly become the soundtrack of their ever-growing fanbase here in the country, the five-piece punksters โ€“ consisting of vocalist Ben Barlow, guitarists Matt West and Sam Bowden, bassist Seb Barlow and drummer Matt Powles โ€“ promise an unforgettable experience as they deliver nothing but โ€œBeautiful Madness.โ€

Formed in Wrexham Wales in 2012, the band โ€“ which started out simply as a fun project that supported similar artists in the UK โ€“ rose to international acclaim after years of hard work on the road, touring the United States and ultimately, landing spots on the Vans Warped Tour in the US. Influenced by groups like Blink-182, New Found Glory, Green Day, and The Descendents, the group combined a modern flavor and their trademark sincere lyricism and won over fans of the genre in no time. Currently, Neck Deep has four studio albums under their collective belt, namely their 2014 debut Wishful Thinking, 2015โ€™s Lifeโ€™s Not Out To Get You, 2017โ€™s The Peace and The Panic, and the 2020 release All Distortions Are Intentional.

And just this year, the band released two fiery singles that fans completely dug: the race-to-the-finish โ€œHeartbreak of the Centuryโ€ (released in February) and their most recent โ€œMeet You There 2.0โ€ a collaboration with UK pop-punk outfit Busted, released last May. Two more reasons to get hyped and tell all your friends.

So there is no need to ask โ€œWhere Do We Go When We Go?โ€ because Neck Deep goes full circle as they return to the same venue they played both in 2016 and 2018: The Skydome at SM North Edsa. The show happens on September 22nd, 2023, but diehard fans will be stoked to know that tickets go on sale as early as July 31st through SM Tickets outlets nationwide and can be purchased at www.smtickets.com.

Netflix unveils new character posters for Heart of Stone

We’re less than a month away from the release of Gal Gadot’s Heart of Stone, and as promotion continues, Netflix is providing fresh details and a clearer look at the ensemble. The film is being marketed as a globe-trotting spy thriller, as the streaming service looks to launch its own series in the genre with Gal Gadot. The streamer has unveiled a fresh series of character posters that give us a nice peek at the eclectic cast of the upcoming film.

    Photos courtesy of Netflix

In the new poster, Gadot is portrayed as the titular spy, with a stern expression on her face. She is followed by Alia Bhatt (RRR, Brahmastra), who will play the film’s antagonist. After establishing herself as a top performer in the Indian cinema business with a succession of successful leading roles, this would be Bhatt’s first turn as a villain, and her admirers can’t wait. The next poster depicts Jamie Dornan as Gadot’s ally Parker. The final poster introduces us to the character of Matthias Schweighรถfer.

The film follows Gadot as Rachel Stone, an elite agent with a life-altering secret that is bigger than her position with MI6. She is the only thing standing between the Charter, a mysterious and powerful organisation, and the loss of its most important and dangerous asset, the Heart, which Bhatt’s character, Keya, is planning to steal.

Heart of Stone debuts exclusively on Netflix on August 11.

  • Lee Sung Kyoung Creates Delightful Memories with Filipino Fans in BE CLOSER Fan Meet

Lee Sung Kyoung Creates Delightful Memories with Filipino Fans in BE CLOSER Fan Meet

Delightful memories and sweet interactions painted July 8 for fans of Lee Sung Kyoung who, with utmost generosity and kind smile, let them be closer.

The afternoon of July 8 was drenched in rain, but local fans of South Korean actress Lee Sung Kyoung didn’t bother as they made their way to the Skydome, SM North EDSA, to reunite with the lovable star.

The actress from Dr. Romantic 3 made her first trip back to the Philippines in four years at the 2023 LEE SUNG KYOUNG ASIA FAN MEETING IN MANILA [BE CLOSER] IN MANILA. This was the actress’ second solo fan meeting in the Philippines. She expressed her longing for the Philippines and the Filipino supporters at the fan meeting, noting how enjoyable their spirit had always been.

And when Lee Sung Kyoung appeared on stage to serenade them with IU’s “Hold My Hand,” their yearning to see one other again came to an end. She continued by extending her welcome in Filipino and showcasedย her distinct Kim Bok Joo “swag”.

The fan meetup was packed with opportunities to get to know her better โ€” to grow closer to her step by step. Six steps in, she gave the audience an opportunity to watch three never-before-seen movies of her working out, posing for a summer photo shoot in the dead of winter, and a behind-the-scenes video of her holding an umbrella over crew members to protect them from the sun.

Taking five steps closer to her, she enlightened fans about her many tastes, which included sisig and mango float. She quickly reassured everyone, though, that she would go on a local cuisine tour and taste every type of Filipino food she could.

While deciding among the available foods was simple, Lee Sung Kyoung struggled to decide which of her Dr. Romantic 3 co-stars, including Lim Wonhee, Lee Hongnae, Lee Sinyoung, and Yoon Namu, she would most like to work with again. She ultimately decided to reconnect with everyone.

The cast has formed a deep friendship after filming the series for two seasons (three for some of the cast members). That strong connection became even more clear when So Juyeon, Kim Minjae, and Ahn Hyoseop sent their Dr. Cha Eun Jae supportive messages.

Her leading man, Ahn Hyoseop who played Dr. Seo Woo Jin in the drama, sweetly described her as someone full of love.

Amongst the people I’ve met, [she is] the one that’s full of love the most โ€” full of love for herself, full of love for other people. [She is] someone who has a lot of love to give, I think. That’s why whenever I’m with her, I’m very comfortable and I feel a sense of belonging. I feel like I’m receiving a lot of love.

Ahn Hyoseop on Lee Sung Kyoung

The actress took the stage as Dr. Cha Eun Jae and sang Chungha’s “My Love” from the Dr. Romantic 2 soundtrack, paying tribute to her role in the popular series. She possesses a wide range of skills, though, not just in acting and singing. Fans will be aware of the actress-model’s extraordinary talent because, as the audience on July 8 saw, she is also a superb dancer. She performed a mashup of the songs “Tomboy” by Destiny Rogers, “After LIKE” by IVE, and “UNFORGIVEN” by LE SSERAFIM to display her dance talents. I moved toward her four steps. A four-step closer to her.

Lee Sung Kyoung was affable and perpetually giving, ensuring that the audience received more. She was up for a conversation and eager to meet everyone. Three steps closer to her, the audience participated in a TMI OX game with her, with the winner receiving a personalized tumbler, while two steps closer, selected supporters participated in a relay game with her, with the section of the winning team receiving a signed portrait.

The actress was given three missions to complete with a matching “punishment” in case she failed, bringing her one step closer. Even if she didn’t complete all the missions, it was clear that she would go above and above to fulfill her fans’ dreams by way of a wish ladder. The wish ladder had her throw signed lucky balls, participate in the “I’m Sorry for Being Cute” challenge, and snap Polaroids.

With Christina Aguilera’s “Reflection” as her farewell song, Lee Sung Kyoung bid everyone adieu. The actress, who was beaming with happiness, thanked her fans in a heartfelt message and showered them with admiration for their undying devotion to her both tonight and throughout the years.

Wherever I go, I always boast about you โ€”really.

Lee Sung Kyoung to her Filipino fans

The 2023 LEE SUNG KYOUNG ASIA FAN MEETING IN MANILA [BE CLOSER] IN MANILA lived up to its name by providing fans with a chance to learn more about the actress, appreciate her more, and experience her charms and endearing demeanor. The actress was kind and considerate, always putting her fans first and ensuring that their time with her was well spent. It was a beautiful memory that everyone who attended the fan meeting event cradled tenderly and tucked lovingly away in their hearts.

It was evident after a final goodbye through a hi-touch session for everyone that those recollections will always be ingrained in their core memories.

Just when Filipino pop-punk music devotees thought things couldn’t get any better, comes the most exciting announcement music fans from Davao have been waiting for: international pop-punk giants MAYDAY PARADE are coming to town!

Thatโ€™s right โ€“ on October 30th, 2023 at the SMX Convention Center, the acclaimed alternative/emo icons are slated to perform their biggest and best hits, and favorite live anthems including โ€œJamie All Over,โ€ โ€œMiserable At Best,โ€ โ€œJersey,โ€ โ€œOh Well, Oh Wellโ€ and โ€œPiece of Your Heart.โ€ The band – comprised of lead vocalist/pianist Derek Sanders, guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts, bassist Jeremy Lenzo and drummer Jake Bundrick โ€“ had already previously announced shows in Manila and Cebu, but due to insistent demand from its fans, decided to go for round three to visit โ€“ and perform for – friends and fans even further south of the archipelago.

In fact, Mayday Parade is one of the few โ€“ if not ONLY โ€“ international artists in the recent decade to play dates in all three major cities.

โ€œWe are extremely honored to have worked with Mayday Parade over so many years – the band and PULP have been partners for over a decade now and we truly treasure the trust the band has given our company,โ€ shares Vernon Go, CEO of PULP Live World. โ€œAnd again it is wonderful to serve the band and their fans after all these years and now bring them to a new city in the Philippines for the first time.โ€

The upcoming shows will be their sixth visit to the Philippines, their second in Cebu, and, as mentioned, their first time ever in Davao.

Formed in 2005 in Tallahassee, Florida, Mayday Parade always had the knack for combining catchy melodies, heartfelt lyricism, and humongous and anthemic choruses. Their 2006 debut EP Tales Told by Dead Friends sold over 50,000 copies on its own, without any label or outside support. With seven full-length albums under their belt to date, the group set itself apart from its contemporaries with its non-stop touring and furious live performances that were both fiery and downright impressive.
