KS4GGโ€™s NCT 127, SEVENTEEN After-Parties Raise 71k for Angat Buhay Projects

K-Pop Stans 4 Good Governance (KS4GG) has raised more than P71,000 to support Angat Buhayโ€™s projects for indigenous peoples.

โ€œThis was KS4GGโ€™s initiative to let the Filipino K-pop fans know that what we formedโ€”hopes, aspirations, camaraderie, and communityโ€”did not stop after the elections. We are in the fight for a better future with our fellow citizens. How we do that is rooted in where we come from as fans: we do it with the music playing,โ€ says Cha, a KS4GG admin.

Funds will be divided equally for two projects. First, for a community of 50 Aeta schoolchildren in Pampanga who need support for tutorial services, snacks, and school supplies. Second, for the educational needs of a Dumagat community in Daraitan, Rizal.

Formerly known as K-Pop Stans 4 Leni, KS4GG is a volunteer organization advocating for empowered citizenship through Korean pop culture. On September 4, the group hosted an after party for NCT 127 Neo City: The Link in Manila, raising P26,000 for donations.

โ€œIt’s something that has not been done before and KS4GG is proud to say that we are probably
the first one to host a K-pop concert after party in the country,โ€ shared Zee, an admin of KS4GG.

After-parties were also held for both days of Seventeenโ€™s Be The Sun Manila concerts on October 8 and 9, adding P45,000 more to the donation pot.

Epik High Brings “Epik High Is Here” Concert Tour to Manila in November

Get your champagne on and enter the alluring world of South Korean alternative hip-hop veterans, EPIK HIGH!

Being the first KPOP act to tour APAC since the pandemic, CK Star Entertainment is proud to present and announce Epik High’s Asia Pacific Tour 2022 โ€“ Chapter 2 in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei. After having sold out their shows across Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, Bangkok, and Jakarta, EPIK HIGH shows no signs of stopping.

Fans in Manila can rejoice at the good fortune of being the first Southeast Asian stop in the Asia Pacific leg of Chapter 2 of the tour. For one night only, EPIK HIGH Is Here – Manila will be staged at New Frontier Theater on Wednesday, 30th of November 2022.

    Epik High

Having previously made waves in the Philippines at the SM Skydome for their EPIK HIGH Parade Tour in 2014, this new tour marks the trioโ€™s second concert in Manila in conjunction with the release of their highly anticipated 10th studio album in two parts, EPIK HIGH is Here ไธŠ (Part 1) & EPIK HIGH Is Here ไธ‹ (Part 2).

The split of the album was intentional, mirroring the way traditional Korean novels were released in two parts giving time to take a break and process what you have consumed before moving on to the next. According to a recent interview with RollingStone magazine, the message behind this newest release is that EPIK HIGH is here even when you think no one is willing to listen. This album shares wisdom that only comes from the experience of 20 years of lows and some pretty epic highs.

Fans of EPIK HIGH – High Skool – will learn the groupโ€™s independence has merely whetted their capacity for producing the experimental and provocative music all have come to love. Expect to rave to emotive hip-hop track โ€œBorn Haterโ€ or universally loved hit โ€œHappen Endingโ€, and be challenged not to join in a nostalgic sing-along to classic chart-topper โ€œFlyโ€. Along with the characteristically playful antics of the forever young-at-heart man band, fans can be assured of a night to remember like no other.

    About EPIK HIGH

A trailblazing trio formed by Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz, EPIK HIGH debuted in 2003. Their singular blend of hip-hop and sharp lyrics, which openly discuss themes like mental health and social issues, turned them into one of the most pivotal groups in Korean music. Throughout their twenty years together, they released hundreds of anthemic songs, inspired artists like BTS, and were the first Korean act to ever play at Coachella in 2016.

Park Eun Bin Warms Hearts In Her First Fan Meeting in Manila

Park Eun Bin charmed the Philippines with her generosity and sincerity in a delightful fan meeting event — full of effort and full of love, especially for her Filipino fans.

South Korean actress Park Eun Bin kick-started her first fan meeting tour, the 2022 PARK EUN BIN ASIA FAN MEETING โ€“ EUN BIN NOTE: BINKAN, in the Philippines at the New Frontier Theater last October 23 amid the passionate cheers and applause of her Filipino fans.

Greeting the crowd with a bright performance of Red Velvet’s Joy’s “Hello”, Park Eun Bin came on stage with a wide smile on her face and a special video backdrop with handwritten greetings in different languages before delivering her welcoming message in Filipino. “Kumusta kayo, Philippines! Kinagagalak kong makita kayo. Na-miss ko kayo. Salamat sa pagpunta. Nakikita nyo ba ako? Salamat po! Annyeonghaseyo, I’m Park Eun Bin.” Fans greeted the actress with tremendous applause and thrilled expressions at finally seeing their favorite actress in person.

The actress was definitely full of joy in seeing her fans come together to meet her. Prior to the fan meeting event, the actress met with the Philippine press and talked about her acting journey, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and meeting her fans through the fan meeting tour. She relayed her excitement and nervousness for her first fan meeting in the Philippines which also marked the first stop of her first Asia fan meeting tour —for her, the best thing that happened in 2022.

All her worries definitely washed away with the cheers she received even prior to coming on stage. “Thank you very much for coming to my first Asia tour. As it is the first time, I’m really nervous pero ngayon sobrang saya ko,” she said, adding that she wishes to come back to the country.

Through her fan meeting tour, the actress hopes to fill the empty space with fans and create a shining space, hence the title BINKAN. Her dedication to creating a memorable event for the audience was evident in the creative segments and video presentations she planned. Remarkably, the actress took the time to learn the local language in order to engage with her fans, cutely responding with phrases like “magandang araw,” “talaga,” “oo,” and “salamat po,” among others.

As the actress’ love for her fans shone brightly throughout the fan meeting, the fans also presented her with a heartfelt homage, recognizing how she affected their lives through the various roles she brilliantly portrayed and through herself, every fan’s favorite character, Park Eun Bin. The special video concluded with a touching message — “Tokkaeng, the moment we got to know you was the shiniest moment for us.” The actress became emotional and cried after being deeply moved by her fans’ genuine gratitude.

I sincerely thank everyone who took the precious time today and came from various places. Thanks to everyone here, I was very, very happy. We will meet again. Until that day, I hope everyone is healthy and full of happy things.

    Park Eun Bin

As the empty space continued to be filled with the shiniest moments, that day’s note ended with a song number from Park Eun Bin, MYMP’s “Especially For You”, specially performed for her Filipino fans.

Head In The Clouds Music and Arts Festival offers plenty of bang for the buck

18 hours of premium experience from over 20 world-class performers plus curated food and immersive installations.

Announced by 88rising and Live MNL last August, the Head In The Clouds Music & Arts Festival is presented by Globe with GCash as major sponsor and will take place on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10, 2022 at SM Festival Grounds Paraรฑaque City.

The festival will feature a stellar lineup of world class headliners including Joji, Jackson Wang, NIKI, Rich Brian, eaJ, and YOASOBI. The festival will also include live performances from BIBI, MANILA GREY, Warren Hue, Ylona Garcia, GUAPDAD 4000, ATARASHII GAKKO!, MILLI, Zack Tabudlo and many more. Special guest is Grammy-winning hitmaker and electronic producer ZEDD.

For a two-day general admission pass of P12,888, fans will gain access to these artists (over 20 scheduled performers) who will take to the stage and play for 45 to 55 minutes each. That roughly translates to about 18 hours of premium experience over the course of two days.

Those who opt to buy the VIP pass at P15,888 willl get plenty of value for money to watch and enjoy every performance: early entry via their dedicated VIP entry lanes to access the main stage and second stage, designated VIP restrooms, additional shade and seating areas, access to exclusive food & beverage vendors and select festival merchandise for purchase.

And because Head In The Clouds is much more than a music festival, fans will also be treated to specially-curated food as well as immersive and Instagram-worthy installations that should keep them engaged in between performances.

The Head In The Clouds experience, of course, is much more fun when enjoyed in the company of close friends, siblings and relatives. As a year-ender barkada get-together, it really doesnโ€™t get any better than this. Tickets now on sale, passes can be purchased HERE.

Since its widely-acclaimed debut in the US back in 2018, 88risingโ€™s Head In The Clouds festival has emerged as one of the most anticipated annual events for fans of both music and the arts. The festival is unique in the sense that it specifically specializes on Asian music and culture from all around the around. No surprise it was eventually hailed as the โ€œAsian Coachella.โ€

Every staging of Head In The Clouds, has in fact, received unanimous praise. In 2018, the very first HITC festival was hailed by The Bullโ€™s Eye as โ€œan unforgettable experienceโ€ฆone of the best musical eventsโ€ of the year. Reviewing in 2019, the Los Angeles Times High School Insider noted that โ€œthe festival, which isnโ€™t just about music, more garnered 25,000 people โ€” more than double the amountโ€ of the previous year.

In 2021, a year after the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Uproxx hailed Head In The Clouds as โ€œLos Angelesโ€™ next great music festival while just recently, Concert Updater said the festival, โ€œsimply lived up to the hype.โ€ โ€œEverything from the music, the food, the crowd, and the overall experience was absolute perfection,โ€ the site further posted in its review of the festival that took place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California last August.
Filipino fans will now get the chance to experience what everyone else in the US was raving about. This year, Head In The Clouds is expanding its horizons and taking all its euphoria to Southeast Asia with two separate dates in Jakarta and Manila happening this December.

  • A Fรชte for Five at I-Pop U 2022 Manila

    A Fรชte for Five at I-Pop U 2022 Manila

Five K-Pop acts gathered under one roof for DNM Entertainmentโ€™s I-Pop U 2022 Manila at the Araneta Coliseum on October 21. The concert festival powered through sudden member changes, line-up additions, and technical difficulties to deliver a high-energy party.

Araneta City Cubao has never been more hectic than on Friday, with K-Pop fans from all over the country trooping to the area to see Alice, Xdinary Heroes, Golden Child, WayV, and NCT Dream.

Everywhere you turn, youโ€™ll find fans taking photos of fan projects, distributing freebies, and meeting up with friends. A few days prior, the organizer announced that Bomin of Golden Child and Winwin and Ten of WayV would be absent from the festivities. Nonetheless, expectations were high and the energy was fiery.

    The Rundown

Alice took the stage first. The seven-member girl group charmed their way into everyoneโ€™s hearts with radiant smiles and positive vibes. It may be the Christmas season in the Philippines, but Alice transported us back to summer with their performances of โ€œ Summer Dream,โ€ โ€œThis is Me,โ€ and โ€œJackpotโ€.

Rock band Xdinary Heroes is not even a year old, but make no mistake about their talent and stage presence. The beauty of a band is that if theyโ€™re great, theyโ€™ll sound even better live, which is the case for XH. โ€œStrawberry Cakeโ€ in all its high-note rage-filled glory hit us straight in the face. A cover of โ€œZombie” by their label seniors Day6 instantly turned the stadium into karaoke. If the screams they earned with Jooyeonโ€™s prodding during the member introductions were any indication, theyโ€™ve already gained a promising fanbase this early in their career. The crowd was so loud it seemed to render Gaon speechless for a moment. Their seven-song setlist ended with their debut track โ€œHappy Death Dayโ€.

Golden Child were consummate performers on stage – singing clear, dancing sharp, and radiating sunshiny cheerfulness. GolCha, as theyโ€™re more commonly called, were the kings of fanservice: completing hand hearts, running around all corners of the stage, crouching down to reach fans, and taking as many phones as they could for precious self-cam footage. The Goldenness fandom did an incredible job in pulling off-block seating. A solid cluster of Runebongs filled one section from Gen Ad to SVIP, and the guys immediately took notice. GolCha performed โ€œBurn It,โ€ Ra Pam Pam,โ€ Knocking on My Door,โ€ โ€œ3! 6! 5!,โ€ โ€œBreathe,โ€ โ€œBottom of the Ocean,โ€ and โ€œReplayโ€.

The ocean of lightsticks was overwhelmingly neon green for WayV and NCT Dream. After all, it’s unusual to see two units of NCT in one place, more so outside South Korea.

To put it simply – this country is whipped for WayV. The screams were so loud everything else drowned.
Even Xiaojunโ€™s orchestra conducting couldnโ€™t tone down the nonstop roaring resonating on a deafening frequency. Anticipation was thick for their performances. Unfortunately, with Ten and Winwin absent for health reasons, Kun and Xiaojun only sang “Back to You”. Q&A and games took place in lieu of what could have been a spectacle. The group was visibly regretful about not being able to perform for Weishennies. Hendery mentioned being nervous because he wanted to show their perfect side.

Xiaojun says, firmly and reassuringly, โ€œWayV is back nowโ€. Itโ€™s a loaded statement knowing what theyโ€™ve been through the past year – theyโ€™re back in the recording room, practicing in the dance studio, together again after being in different countries, to deliver what they do best as artists. Hopefully, their imminent return also leads them back to the Philippines for their legion of fans who they cherish. Hendery said so himself, without fans they are fish out of water unable to survive.
In the end, WayV handed out roses as โ€œLove Talkโ€ played, with the whole dome providing vocals.

NCT Dream were the nightโ€™s headliners, pulling some of the best hits from their excellent discography for the audience: โ€œBeat Box,โ€ โ€œHot Sauce,โ€ โ€œDive Into You,โ€ โ€œHello Future,โ€ and โ€œGlitch Modeโ€.

Youngest in terms of age but oldest in terms of the debut, NCT Dreamโ€™s stages embodied youthful playfulness, just best friends living their best lives performing for an audience that hypes their songs like no other. Jaemin extended an invite for the next time they return, which will definitely be the previously announced The Dream Show 2 concert.

    A Grand Catch Up

K-Pop concerts arenโ€™t just about performances, itโ€™s also where fans and artists catch up. After waiting for years, fans of Xdinary Heroes, WayV, and Golden Child finally met their idols for the first time. Alice gave a sneak peek of their upcoming comeback for the single โ€œDance Onโ€ set on October 27. Birthday songs were sung for Golden Childโ€™s Sungmin and WayVโ€™s Yangyang and Winwin, despite the latterโ€™s absence.

Thereโ€™s a sense of community with every single member receiving cheers as they introduced themselves.
People screamed for groups even if they werenโ€™t fans, wanting to show the artists a great warm Filipino welcome. Communication was almost telepathic. A request for louder volume from the seated area and everyone immediately gets the memo to relay the message to the host. An instruction to not help WayV during games had fans deceiving the group into thinking that every choice to the question was correct.

    Sound Setbacks

I-Pop U 2022 Manila was marred with audio problems. The sound from the microphones was either too soft or too loud. Numerous performers would walk offstage to try and get the issues fixed. A constant white noise was present during Golden Childโ€™s stage. Itโ€™s a given that K-Pop artists prepare meticulously for performances. Ideally, concert producers should commit to the same level of thoroughness. Audio problems equally shortchange the artists who want to showcase their best and the audience who wish to hear their excellence. It would be fantastic for any local producer to offer an aural experience that is crisp, clean, and consistent.

    The I-Pop U 2022 Manila Experience

Through highs and lows, I-Pop U 2022 Manila delivered a party the audience will remember. Gunil of Xdinary Heroes put it best: Theyโ€™re thankful to fans for matching their energy and they hope it’s an unforgettable moment for us because it’s unforgettable for them.

    Words: Marijo Endriga

The I-POP U 2022 MANILA is presented by DNM Entertainment and YOD Entertainment. Special thanks to DNM Entertainment for the invite to the event.

  • The Vamps set to bring back memories with a 10th-anniversary tour in Manila

The Vamps set to bring back memories with a 10th-anniversary tour in Manila

The Vamps are gearing up to celebrate a decade together with a Greatest Hits Tour on February 17 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Playing a bit from each album and celebrating all the best moments from the past 10 years.

The British pop-rock band began their career on YouTube and have become extremely popular over the past decade. In a short amount of time, they went from playing in their parents’ garage to playing in front of thousands at arenas.

The Vamps (consisting of Connor Ball, Bradley Simpson, Tristan Evans, and James Brittain-McVey) are the first band to headline London’s O2 for five consecutive years. They have over six billion streams, over two billion views on their YouTube channel, and have released five albums. Since their platinum-selling debut album, Meet The Vamps, hit number 2 on the UK charts in 2014, the band has kept up a dream-like pace of albums (four in total, including 2017’s chart-topping Night & Day (Night Edition), which includes the Matoma-assisted global smash All Night), singles (eight top 40 hits, including five top 10s), and world tours.

After the tour for 2018’s guest-heavy Top 3 hit Night & Day (Day Edition), the band took a short break. Just as they were making their new album, Cherry Blossom, a global pandemic hit. The title is a reflection of the album’s theme of rebirth.

It’s a new start for The Vamps. Their most personal and fully-formed work up to this point, led by the dirty, sky-high banger Married in Vegas was made from afar while the band was in lockdown. The forced rest gave the band the time and space to carefully plan what they wanted the album to be and say. The Vamps have changed from a bright-eyed boy band with instruments to a full-fledged pop band that makes hits for arenas.

LNPH presale is happening on November 8, 2022 from 10am to 11:59pm via livenation.ph and November 9, 2022 will be the general onsale via smtickets.com and outlets nationwide.

A Parade of Good Memories with Kang Daniel in First Parade in Manila

A memory to be cherished, the First Parade in Manila was a testament to Kang Daniel’s unmistakable charm, ability, and sincerity as well as to the admiration and love of Philippine DANITYs that he has received a thousand-fold.

South Korean singer-actor Kang Daniel fired off the magnificent fireworks of his KANG DANIEL CONCERT – FIRST PARADE in Manila last October 22 at the New Frontier Theater, heralding the commencement of his first Asia concert tour in three years since his debut.

The singer-actor sparkled brighter than ever in the midst of deafening cheers from his Philippine DANITYs, who warmly and passionately welcomed him back to the Philippine concert stage with an opening salvo of “Flash” and “Parade.”

Kang Daniel greeted his fans with a broad smile, saying, “Long time no see, Philippines!” and a 90-degree bow to thank everyone who came out to attend his First Parade in Manila. He expressed his excitement at returning to see his Philippine DANITYs again, and he urged everyone to simply enjoy the show โ€”-his first solo concert in Manila.

Ready to offer his fans the finest show possible, the multi-hyphenate began with fan favorites “Don’t Tell Me,” “Waves,” and “Touchin’.” He then displayed a distinct charm with his brilliant energy in his stages of “Jealous,” “2U,” and “Upside Down.” He also expressed his wish that his music would continue to offer people joy.

Getting to Know the Nation’s Center More at First Parade in Manila

Kang Daniel revealed more about himself by playing a balance game in which he had to choose between two possibilities. Fans discovered from the game that he would rather have a cellphone crash than a computer crash and that sleeping as much as you want for a day is a more wonderful day for him than eating only his favorite delectable meal.

When asked to choose between traveling back in time and going forward, the singer-actor paused for a moment before selecting the latter. “There are people who could be hurt if I go back in time,” he explained. He went on to say that he wants to enjoy the current moment. Kang Daniel will notify his family and friends if he wins the lotto because he trusts them. He also loves sour food to salty food, finds doing aegyo in front of his parents more awkward than sexy dancing in front of his friends, and prefers having no internet on his cellphone to having a cellphone with a 1% charge.

Kang Daniel stated that it is more intolerable to ban gaming for a year than to restrict food delivery for a year. The singer-actor faced conflict before making the decision. “When you order delivery food, you must play a game. You have to order delivery food if you play a game,” he explained. He also stated that he needed the capacity to remind himself of things he had forgotten when he went outdoors rather than knowing where the missing items were in the house. Finally, he will prefer a life remembered by loved ones even if he does not remember them over a life remembered by the people he loves even if they do not remember him.

The singer-actor was back in full performance gear with “How We Live.”

From magnificent stages to a poignant conclusion

Kang Daniel, returning to the stage as a dapper man in white, first serenaded Philippine DANITYs with “Misunderstood” and “Loser” before turning up the heat at the New Frontier Theater with his back-to-back performances of “Antidote” and “Paranoia.”

Speaking to fans, the singer-actor reflected on his solo career, recalling his albums, songs, and OST appearances. After making his solo debut in 2019, 2022 marks his third debut anniversary โ€”- a milestone for which he gratefully acknowledges his fans. โ€œDANITYs recognize my effort more than I do. You guys know very well the feelings Iโ€™m feeling. Iโ€™m so thankful. I am happy as you are,โ€ he said, adding that he’s glad his music energizes people.

Kang Daniel also offered them the songs “Save U” and “Moment.” And Philippine DANITYs ensured Kang Daniel felt all the love that night by creating a special banner project for him during his “1000x” stage โ€”- a vow that DANITY IS FOREVER YOURS A 1000x. He then concluded the First Parade in Manila with an encore performance of “The Story” and a promise to return to Philippine DANITYs as soon as possible.

It was my first performance on my first Asia tour, so I was very excited and I will never forget it. I was worried that it would be difficult for the audience because of the rain, but the warm cheers and enthusiastic support gave me a lot of strength. Todayโ€™s performance was held in manila. I hope it will be a good memory for the fans.

    Kang Daniel

Following the First Parade in Manila, Kang Daniel’s concert tour will take him through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau before continuing on to the Americas and Europe for a great world tour.

  • BTSโ€™ โ€œYet to Come in Busanโ€: 7 Most Memorable Highlightsย

BTSโ€™ โ€œYet to Come in Busanโ€: 7 Most Memorable Highlightsย

On October 15, BTS held their wildly successful show attended by over 50,000 fans at the Busan Asiad Stadium. A concurrent Live Play event or livestream was held for 10,000 people at Busan Port and 2,000 people at Haeundae Beach. For the millions who watched from their homes, several free streaming sites such as Weverse, JTBC and Naver were available.

In July, BTS became the ambassadors for Busanโ€™s bid for the World Expo 2030 and their October concert was announced. Even without a complete map of details, fans from different parts of the globeย  immediately took a heightened interest in the upcoming event, in the prospect of seeing the band live one more time. By the time the raffle ticket winners were announced early September, the clamor for concert tickets, accommodation, and flight tickets were so intense that booking the trip became a very hectic activity.

โ€œYet to Come in Busanโ€ was not only a concert; it was a massive festival for ARMY. During the concert weekend, Busan, the second largest city in Seoul, reportedly garnered around 100,000 tourists from all over the world. The city glowed purple from Busan Towerย  to Busan Port. As a city known for its magnificent beaches,ย  Busanโ€™s Haeundae and Gwangalli Beach also held their own special events for the concert. Commercial establishments from luxury hotels to simple cafes even offered BTS-themed packages for ARMY.

    The Concert Highlights

Fireworks bloomed in the night sky of the Busan Asiad Stadium. The gargantuan screens shaped like BTSโ€™ logo flashed a countdown, signaling the beginning of the show. On instinct, the crowds waved their ARMY Bombs (lightsticks) in the air. The standing area, packed as it was, was a united wave, pushing forward and jumping along to every beat of the song.

The stage was richly decorated by BTS references from their near-decade-long career. You could see the school bus in โ€œNo More Dreamโ€, the bare tree with the hanging white sneakers, the You Never Walk Alone carousel and the train from โ€œSpring Dayโ€, the 20219 train container in โ€œI NEED Uโ€, the towering angel statue from โ€œBlood, Sweat and Tearsโ€ and the red piano fromย  โ€œYet to Comeโ€.

Weโ€™ve compiled 7 of the most important moments in the concert (or at least, tried to). Read on below!

    1. RUN BTS!

Of course, the electrifying โ€œMIC Dropโ€ was an instant party starter, but the energy was even more palpable as BTS unleashed the new stage for the fierce โ€œRun BTSโ€ from their recently released anthology album PROOF. For the first time, the audience got to see the sharp and hard-hitting choreography that only Bangtan could deliver.

    2. Vocal lineโ€™s and rap lineโ€™s sets

YTC in Busanโ€™s setlist featured a balanced mix of their older and newer tracks, as well as a seamless transition in between. The vocal lineโ€™s and rap lineโ€™s contrasting performances were interesting. BTSโ€™ vocalists – Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook – serenaded the audience with a stirring rendition of  โ€œZero Oโ€™Clockโ€ followed by โ€œButterfly (Prologue Mix)โ€.  Afterwards, RM, SUGA and j-hope delivered their gut-punching rap during โ€œUGH!โ€  and โ€œCypher Pt. 3: Killerโ€.

Side note: The flying blue butterflies were beautiful in real life.

    3. Singing along: smooth like butter~

The dawn of the pandemic has given us a few BTS pop English tracks which also got their time to shine during the show. โ€œDynamiteโ€ and โ€œButterโ€ were songs we had seen many, many times virtually, but seeing and singing along to them live was a new, fun experience.

    4. โ€œWelcome to my city! Letโ€™s go!โ€

โ€œSince weโ€™re in Busan, we have to perform this song. You know what Iโ€™m talking about, right? Welcome to my city! Letโ€™s go,โ€ Jimin excitedly shouted before performing the song many people were expecting: โ€œMa Cityโ€. Jimin and Jungkook came from Busan. Seeing the group perform the song felt like a homecoming.

    5. The crowdโ€™s burning energy

โ€œFIREโ€ and โ€œIDOLโ€ are classic BTS hype songs, and they always get the job done. With literal fire bursts and fireworks from the stage, every soul in the stadium was jumping and dancing like there was no tomorrow. It was the middle of autumn, but everything was hot, hot, hot, hotter.

    6. โ€œEpilogue: Young Foreverโ€ & โ€œFor Youthโ€

Hearing the crowd sing โ€œEpilogue: Young Foreverโ€ back-to-back with โ€œFor Youthโ€ was golden.

As old snippets of the band flashed across the screen, the crowd sang along to the chorus of โ€œEpilogue: Young Foreverโ€. You could just feel that distinct hint of nostalgia and longing in the air.

    7. What BTS had to say

Everyone was anticipating their ending speeches. As BTS announced during their Festa in June, the group is technically on hiatus, fueling concerns about their future.Thereโ€™s also the looming mandatory military enlistment announcement. BTS, however, had nothing but reassurance and gratitude for their fans.

J-Hope cleared the air by simply saying, โ€œHave faith in usโ€. As the first member to release a solo album, he successfully performed his headlining set at Lollapalooza in July. He said that he missed performing with the group so much and that he has more energy when heโ€™s with them.

The crowd sang โ€œHappy Birthdayโ€ for Jimin who celebrated his birthday two days before the concert. He then thanked everyone for celebrating with him. โ€œI’m now curious what we’ll look like in ten years. I’m looking forward to it a lot. I’m not scared at all. We should keep going โ€“ thirty, forty… seventy years old,โ€ he said jokingly.

The groupโ€™s leader, RM, mentioned that they havenโ€™t done a proper concert since the Speak Yourself Tour and 5th Muster: Magic Shop in 2019. He thanked the crowd for waiting for three years. He also reaffirmed what J-Hope said. โ€œWhatever comes our way in the future, the seven members of Bangtan are united in our thoughts. If you believe in us, we will be able to get through anything that comes our way. Weโ€™ll be happy and weโ€™ll keep making music.โ€

Jungkook took his time to thank his fellow BTS members. โ€œIn the ten years of my life as a trainee up to where I am now, Iโ€™d like to thank them. Itโ€™s amazing that I got to perform for ARMYs in my hometown. (…) There were times when I had hardship and when I wanted to quit, but the members were there to hold onto me, and because of that I think I’m able to stand here. Letโ€™s continue to run, moving forward.โ€

Jin, the groupโ€™s oldest member, sounded a bit sentimental when he spoke. โ€œI kept thinking this is our last concert and when our next concert will be. Everyone, I donโ€™t know when weโ€™ll have a tour again, but youโ€™ll come, right?โ€ To break the ice, he announced that he would be releasing a new single soon. He said it is a collaboration with an artist he likes. (As it turned out, his new single titled โ€œThe Astronautโ€ is a collaboration with Coldplay, a band heโ€™s known to be a fan of for a long time. Itโ€™s set to be released on October 28.)

SUGA had a calm yet confident aura around him when he addressed the audience.  โ€œI feel refreshed. We came all the way to Busan and we got to be with you. Some people will say โ€˜BTS is oldโ€™ and so and so. It has been over six years since we received our first Daesang (grand award in Korea), but I think we will continue to be in this place for ten, twenty, thirty years. Let’s grow old together!โ€

The last to speak was V. โ€œI missed ARMY so much.โ€ He recalled the time during their Festa wherein they said they would be on a hiatus as a group and they would pursue solo careers, but theyโ€™re still here, doing a concert. โ€œThough this concert is a one-time event, we prepared a lot, and the choreography for “Run BTS” is really hard! I hope you liked it.โ€ Just when he looked like he had something more to say, he abruptly ended with โ€œthank youโ€ followed by the trademark ARMY greeting โ€œborahae!โ€

For the final song, โ€œYet to Comeโ€ reverberated throughout the stadium, drawing the curtains to another memorable BTS concert.

    The Aftermath

Was it honestly the best? Because my best is what comes next.

To echo the opening line of โ€œYet to Comeโ€, I came out of BTS’ explosive concert in Busan, thinking it was the bandโ€™s best performance yet. I stood there, dazed, every inch of my body thrumming in excitement. In my mind, I was already looking forward to their next show โ€” whenever that may be.

Two days after the concert, Bighit Music announced that the group is set to enlist for their mandatory military service soon. It was a decision that has been hanging for quite some time now, and it was good to finally hear the resolution. According to the announcement, the earliest they will reconvene as a group is on 2025. It seems like a long wait from now, but hey, life goes on for all of us.

As an ARMY who has followed their growth from 2014 until now, Iโ€™ve witnessed firsthand how theyโ€™ve grown as musicians and performers. Iโ€™ve seen the fanbase grow from my select group of friends to every other passerby who knows nothing about K-pop. Iโ€™ve experienced how their concert tickets got more and more difficult to obtain as each tour went by. Most importantly, Iโ€™ve seen BTS earn the love, respect and admiration of people from all walks of life. For all that and more, in the past eight years, Iโ€™m grateful that they have become indelible parts of my life.

From this concert, Iโ€™ll forever remember the butterflies flying in the air, the floating whale on top of a sea of people, the fireworks igniting a splendid evening โ€“ bits and pieces Iโ€™ll take with me for the next few years until the next time I see them live again.

  • 7 TXT B-Sides We Need to Hear Live

7 TXT B-Sides We Need to Hear Live

TXT consistently produces excellent works that contribute to their impressive catalog and make up an exceptional career — from their debut to their most current release.

    TXT

It is no secret how the debut of TOMORROW X TOGETHER, commonly known as TXT, took the K-Pop world into a frenzy. The first boy group to debut in six years under Big Hit Entertainment (now, Big Hit Music) since BTS, TXT delivered more than the world asked for as they set record after record with their debut extended play, The Dream Chapter: Star.

Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and HueningKai broke the record for the most-viewed K-Pop debut music video within 24 hours for a boy group and the most-liked K-Pop debut music video within 24 hours with the music video of “Crown”. The single also debuted at the top of the Billboard World Digital Songs chart, while The Dream Chapter: Star set the record for the highest-charting debut album on Billboard by any male K-Pop group.

With the success of their debut EP, it is no longer surprising that TXT swept new artist and rookie awards from several award-giving bodies. They are the 10th best-selling Korean act in Gaon Chart history within the last ten years — a feat they achieved only three years after their debut. Cementing their position as one of the top K-Pop groups in their generation, the boy group is unstoppable in taking over charts, selling out concert venues, and putting their name on the top of the game.

    Another First with TXT

And TXT is set to add another milestone in their career as Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and HueningKai make their way to the Philippine concert stage for the first time with back-to-back ACT: LOVE SICK in Manila concerts at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 27 and 28.

READ: TXT To Bring โ€œACT : LOVE SICKโ€ Tour To Manila In October

Only a week to go before the big day, allow us to countdown to the special day ahead with a list of seven B-sides we are earnestly praying to hear TXT perform live.

    Blue Orangeade

    The Dream Chapter: Star, 2019

We begin this list with a B-side from their debut extended play, The Dream Chapter: Star — “Blue Orangeade”. Produced by Slow Rabbit and written by the Big Hit Music producer together with Moonshine, Cazzi Opeia, Ellen Berg, and Supreme Boi, “Blue Orangeade” opens the EP with its energetic beats.

The song’s fundamental messageโ€”that a relationship can flourish despite seeming differencesโ€”is conveyed through a track that is chock-full of clever allusions. The song’s title, which features the complementary hues of blue and orange that also produce the sharpest contrast when combined, makes the main topic even more obvious.

    Magic Island

    The Dream Chapter: Magic, 2019

TXT did not slow down after their great debut; rather, they kept their motors running in preparation for another release that will shock the K-Pop scene. October 2019 saw the boy group return with their first studio album, The Dream Chapter: Magic.

And in this list, we highlight the sixth track in the album — “Magic Island”. Crystal Bell of MTV named the song one of The Best K-Pop B-sides Of 2019, describing it as a subdued track that inevitably lulls you into a feeling of deep serenity.

    Maze in the Mirror

    The Dream Chapter: Eternity, 2020

A track from the second extended play of TXT, The Dream Chapter: Eternity, “Maze in the Mirror” is the first official release of the boy group that was co-written by Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and HueningKai, together with Slow Rabbit. Beomgyu also collaborated with Slow Rabbit on the song’s production.

The core of TXT’s comradery was captured in the song, along with recollections from their competitive training years before their debut. In an interview with Billboard, Beomgyu shared that the incident that inspired the title was when, under pressure from intense training, they began to notice someone else in the mirrors who appeared to be lost in a maze. The words of this song display highly deep feelings, as evidenced by the lyrical references to attempting to locate oneself after being lost and little pleas to keep going.

I’m sure all the members agree but, personally, I had been under a lot of pressure to do well because I joined the company later than the other members did. What I felt then was, as I was practicing singing and dancing, I started to see somebody else from my own reflection in the mirror. It didn’t seem like the “me” I used to know. I felt like I was trapped in a maze. That’s how “Maze in the Mirror” came to be.

    Beomgyu, Billboard interview

    We Lost the Summer

    Minisode 1: Blue Hour, 2020

“We Lost the Summer” saw the collaboration of TXT with English singer-songwriter Charlie XCX. The song, which served as the third track in the Minisode 1: Blue Hour extended play, retells the days and everything lost as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic (with an upbeat cadence), comparing the lockdown to a winter when everything appeared to be frozen in time.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Beomgyu shared, “Many teenagers could no longer go to school and hang out with each other, passing notes, sharing earbuds, and so on. Itโ€™s our story but itโ€™s still a subject that teens all over the world can relate to. Itโ€™s the teen perspective and we wanted to address it through our music.”

    Anti-Romantic

    The Chaos Chapter: Freeze, 2021

Probably one of the most well-known and lauded B-sides of TXT, “Anti-Romantic” opens the boy group’s second studio album, The Chaos Chapter: Freeze. Sara Delgado of Teen Vogue described the song as a classic R&B-infused soft ballad and as the “older, wiser, and substantially more pessimistic sister “to another TXT song, “20cm”, from The Dream Chapter: Magic. “If one sings of innocent love, born between school walls, the other ditches rom-coms and love songs altogether,” she wrote.

    MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)

The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape, 2021

Coming as an additional track in the repackaged version of The Chaos Chapter: Freeze, “MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)” is the eighth track in The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape album. Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and HueningKai contributed to writing the lyrics for the song.

“MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)” is the boy group’s official fan song. With lyrics promising to be there until the sweeter end, every MOA deserves to hear their favorite boys sing this song live at least once in their lifetime and reminisce together about their journey with TXT.

    Opening Sequence

    Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child

“Opening Sequence”, a gritty rap-rock hybrid that starts Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child off on a considerably darker tone than its predecessor, portrays a tug-of-war within the mind of a conflicted person following an event that has left them mentally scarred and serves as a symbol for the first stage of mourning, denial.

Prepare yourself, Philippine MOAs, to see TXT and hear a portion of their remarkable repertoire that they have built over the years, including self-written and self-produced compositions that tell stories and convey the feelings and circumstances of this generation into words and music.

Few tickets left to ACT: LOVE SICK in Manila via SM Tickets outlets and online at www.smtickets.com.
