The official Season 2 description reads:

“Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”

It follows Squid Game, which premiered on September 17, 2021, and became a global success, accumulating over 1.65 billion viewing hours in 28 days and attaining 111 million accounts, becoming Netflix’s first series to surpass 100 million users at debut.

The second season of the show, written, directed, and executive produced by Hwang Dong-hyuk, picks up following Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) “jaw-dropping decisions” at the end of Season 1. It will follow the hero as he abandons his plan to travel. Instead, he starts a hunt with a serious purpose. New players include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun, as well as Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an. Season 3 is expected to be shot back-to-back with Season 2, allowing Netflix to release it in 2025, a far shorter wait for viewers than the three years between the first two seasons. Firstman Studio produces the series, with Kim Ji-yeon also serving as an executive producer.
