New K-Fantasy ‘Genie, Make a Wish’ Trailer Blends Magic, Mischief, and Romance

The official trailer for “Genie, Make a Wish“, the highly-anticipated K-fantasy romantic comedy that stars Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy as a power couple, has been released by Netflix. The teaser blends contemporary psychological intrigue with aspects of ancient folklore. On October 3, the series will make its worldwide premiere.

In a thrilling romance that has the potential to end both of their worlds, it promises a deliciously sinister confrontation between a stoic master with psychopathic secrets and a thousand-year-old genie with devilish tendencies. “He’s not your average genie; he’s a truly evil one,” says the eerie voiceover of Genie (Kim Woo-bin), the main character, at the beginning of the trailer, which was released on Netflix. The scene alternates between Seoul’s neon-lit streets and Dubai’s lavish souks. As Genie entices her with forbidden fantasies and Ka-young coldly and precisely shoots down his plans, their relationship devolves into a game of wills and wits.

Three wishes that will permanently alter their lives bind them together in a deadly wager. “Genie, Make a Wish” is fundamentally about the thrilling conflict between chaos and control. Ka-young (Bae Suzy) has suppressed her darker impulses into a life of rigid routines and emotional numbness because she was raised by her strict grandmother. However, Genie awakens after a thousand years of sleep and brings a storm of magic, mischief, and possibly even love with him when she spontaneously travels to Dubai and retrieves the enchanted lamp.

The renowned Kim Eun-sook (“Goblin”, “The Glory”) wrote the script and Lee Byung-hun directed the 12-episode series.

There is no doubt that after October 3, spirits imprisoned in bottles and wish-granters will never be the same. “Genie, Make a Wish” will only be available for streaming on Netflix on October 3rd.

Get ready for a spellbinding tale of love, destiny, and wish-fulfillment with Genie, Make a Wish, the latest drama penned by acclaimed writer Kim Eun-sook, known for her gripping storytelling in The Glory. This romantic comedy promises to weave enchantment and heartfelt moments, starring Kim Woo-bin as Jinn, a genie awakening after a millennium of slumber, and Suzy as Ka-young, his emotionally guarded new master.

Genie, Make a Wish follows the story of Genie — a magic spirit in a lamp who has come back to the human world after a millennium of his career being put on hold — encounters Ka-young, an impassive woman who goes through the motions of life by her grandmother’s rules and her own routines.

Kim Woo-bin (Officer Black Belt, Black Knight) portrays Genie. Unlike the kind Genie everyone is familiar with, he is a Satan who tempts and corrupts humans with three wishes. However, he’s not just any Satan—he’s an eccentric character who has awakened after a thousand years and is naive about the world.

Suzy (Doona!, Start-up) plays the role of Ka-young, the owner of the Genie’s lamp. She is an emotionless psychopath, but not just any psychopath—she is an extraordinary and beautiful woman raised with hope by her grandmother and the entire village, possessing wealth, education, and beauty.

Supporting them are Ahn Eun-jin (Goodbye Earth, The Good Bad Mother) as the mysterious Mi-joo. Noh Steve Sang-hyun (Love in the Big City, Pachinko) as Soo-hyun, Genie’s brother and rival. Ko Kyu-phil (The Fiery Priest, Veteran) as Sayyid, Genie’s assistant who’s secretly a black jaguar. Lee Zoo-young (The 8 Show, Believer 2) as Min-ji, Ka-young’s only friend.

Mark your calendars for October 3, 2025, when Genie, Make a Wish drops on Netflix, promising a magical escape filled with romance, humor, and a touch of otherworldly intrigue. Whether you’re a fan of K-dramas or simply craving a feel-good fantasy, this series is set to make all your viewing wishes come true.
