5 Questions We Have After Watching the Balaraw Trailer

Still at the edge of your seat after watching Balaraw’s trailer? Our adventure to the island is just getting started. A mystery always leaves us wanting more. After pressing play on what Sabina’s story has in store for us, here are some questions that will certainly keep us tuned in to Netflix’s upcoming Original series:

    1. Why can Sabina see Balaraw in her dreams?

In the trailer, Sabina’s mother asks if she still dreams about the island. This makes us wonder, has Sabina already gone to Balaraw before… or is her mind just playing tricks on her? We’ll just have to wait and see.

    2. How did Rebecca leave?

Balaraw seems to be an island where people stay… except for Rebecca, that is. Of course, there’s a reason behind it that we’ll soon uncover as our characters’ arcs in Babang Yawa begin.

    3. Is she dead?

You’ve all seen that jump scare! That begs us to ask this question that Sabina is also trying to figure out after years of searching for her mother—one of the many mysteries that we’ll unpack in the upcoming episodes.

    4. Who are the people on the island?

The different scenes from the trailer feature people who have settled themselves into the island. There may be people like Rebecca who wanted to leave, but there’s also another side of the story that will soon unfold—what makes a person stay in Balaraw.

    5. What lies ahead for those who come to Balaraw?

Like Sabina, we’re getting ourselves into an adventure as we explore the island in every episode. We all know that there’s always something more than meets the eye. So, whether you’re a sucker for mysteries, a lover of thrillers, or just a genre explorer, let your curiosity get the best of you and add Balaraw to your watch-list. It’s even just in time for the spooky season!

Years after her mother vanished without a trace, Sabina follows a single mysterious clue that pulls her toward a place most people have never heard of. What begins as a search for answers quickly turns into something far more personal and dangerous. On the island of Balaraw, the past isn’t just buried. It’s waiting. And the dark secrets she uncovers belong to her own family.

Directed by Rae Red, the eight-episode Netflix series blends mystery and thriller elements with the weight of Filipino folklore.

Janine Gutierrez leads as Sabina, bringing the kind of grounded intensity she’s known for. Agot Isidro and Charlie Dizon round out the core cast, creating a triangle of relationships that feels both intimate and fractured. The supporting ensemble adds further texture to the island’s closed community, where every face seems to carry a piece of the truth Sabina is chasing.

Produced as a Filipino original for Netflix, Balaraw arrives at a moment when local stories with global reach are gaining more attention. It draws on the country’s rich tradition of myths and island lore without treating them as simple set dressing. The result feels specific and lived-in rather than generically “exotic.”

The series premieres on Netflix on October 29, 2026.
