The Itchyworms, Johnoy Danao, and Cheats are also joining the multi-awarded hitmaker to celebrate the enduring legacy of the iconic debut album.
Filipino alternative rock icon Ebe Dancel celebrates the enduring legacy of Sugarfreeโs Sa Wakas with an experiential treat that brings to mind the colorful vibe of UP Fair and the intimacy of a packed, outdoor event.
SA WAKAS: 20th Anniversary Celebration marks another milestone for the multi-awarded singer-songwriter as he brings to life the classic anthems that define an entire generation.
The highly anticipated show will take place at 123 Block, Mandala Park on January 28, 2022 (Saturday), from 4:30 pm onwards, and feature a full-length, all-Sugafree set by Ebe Dancel, with the special participation of Mitch Singson, as well as guest performances by Cheats, Johnoy Danao, The Itchyworms and more.
To make the celebration more special and personal, important personalities who were part of making Sa Wakas will also be gracing the event, either as performers or as special guests.
Not only will there be live music, but Mandala Park will also be turned into an amusement venue with carnival games and rides, arts and crafts booths, record and book stores, food stands, and other immersive activities.
โAt the core of Sa Wakas is nostalgia shaped by bittersweet memories and adolescent discoveries,โ says Ian Urrutia, PR and Marketing Director of GNN Entertainment Productions. โWe want to honor the impact of Sugarfreeโs debut album by reliving the simple joys of going to college or university fairs with friends, family, and loved ones. Looking back doesnโt have to be getting stuck in the past. Sometimes, itโs okay to experience the old times with fondness and a different perspective as it gives new meaning to these memories. Weโre finding means not to reimagine Sa Wakas, but to celebrate it: a record that feels like a tight embrace at the end of the dark days.โ
Backspacer Records, one of the co-presenters of the show, also shared their excitement in mounting a celebration of this caliber. โIt has always been our aim at Backspacer Records to help channel music from the past into the present through our vinyl record releases. In the past year, we have successfully produced and released Ebe Dancelโs Bawat Daan and Habangbuhay albums on vinyl. And now, for the first time, we get to bring you a live music experience with the Sa Wakas 20th Anniversary show. As Ebe Dancelโs fans since his Sugarfree days, this is such a treat for us: to mark this important milestone with a throwback celebration, complete with a fun and laid-back college fair vibe. This night will definitely be a nostalgia trip, full of reminiscing while singing along to songs that have become the soundtracks of our youth.โ
Special merch will be sold exclusively at the venue, and select Ebe Dancel albums and other important local/foreign records will be available via Backspacer Records.
SA WAKAS: 20th Anniversary Celebration is presented by GNN Entertainment Productions and Backspacer Records, in partnership with 123 Block and Balcony Entertainment.

More Sony Music Philippines artists join the Eheads nostalgia party with their fresh take on โAng Huling El Bimboโ and โSuperproxyโ!
Following the positive reviews that SB19 and NOBITA earned for their unique spin on The Eraserheadsโ beloved classics, more OPM acts have come together to pay tribute to the countryโs biggest and most influential band of all time.
Multi-hyphenate pop soloist Ace Banzuelo reinterprets โAng Huling El Bimboโ with intimate, soul-crushing details. Transforming the epic anthem into a spacey jam, the young hitmaker peels back the layers of the original with his brooding, bedroom-pop styling. He imprints his own identity on the material while valuing the lyrical profundity and awe-inspiring bigness of the original.
As Banzuelo puts it, โIt’s great that I’m allowed to give it the sound and approach that I want. A lot of the original was kept, but a lot was taken away. This project became meaningful to me throughout the process because I was producing it as if I had written the song.”
Alt-rock newcomers of Mercury and Any Nameโs Okay vocalist Sof Abrogar join young hip-hop virtuoso Alex Bruce in reinterpreting โSuperproxy,โ a cross-genre smash originally performed by The Eraserheads and legendary rap icon Francis M. The newly formed ensemble breathed new life into the timeless tune with a more jagged sonic direction that sounds both retro and futuristic at the same time.
โIt was honestly an honor for us to be able to cover an Eheads song and be able to incorporate our own flavor into it,โ says of Mercury in a collective statement. โI think we pretty much did our own thing but left the structures and melody of the song. It was a pretty tricky song to work on given the genre, but weโre pretty happy with how it came out nonetheless.โ
Alex Bruce was grateful to be part of this project and considers the song one of her go-to jams. โThis song is a masterpiece. Itโs iconic. I wanted to add a little spice, a little flavor, and a bit of contemporary oomph to it. Our reworked version is a fusion of old school and new school.โ
Growing up in a big family with a collective love and fascination for the โ80s and โ90s Pinoy rock, Any Nameโs Okay lead vocalist Sof was initially intimidated by the project but took the challenge to heart in hopes of fulfilling her childhood dream. โBesides what I mentioned earlier about my family, I take particular inspiration from The Eraserheadsโ lyricism in Tagalog or Filipino. Even in my own music career with ANO, I try to use Filipino in our songs as much as I can, and I really think the Eraserheads use the language in all its richness and strength. I also love how they are unapologetic in writing about our culture, whether thatโs as shallow as UP life or as large as national politics. The band inspires me to really root my own music in my own experiences and in empathy for others,” she said.
Apart from the revamped tracks by some of todayโs biggest hitmakers, five of The Eraserheadsโ legendary albums were re-released in full 360-degree spatial sound to give listeners a new immersive music experience. These influential records include Ultraelectromagneticpop!, The 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition, Circus (25th Anniversary Remastered), Cutterpillow, Fruitcake, and Sticker Happy.
Ace Banzueloโs โAng Huling El Bimboโ and of Mercury x Sof Abrogar x Alex Bruceโs โSuperproxyโ are out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

To celebrate The Eraserheadsโ reunion concert last night, Sony Music Philippines artists released their revamped versions of โChristmas Partyโ and โMagasinโ
To commemorate the success of The Eraserheadsโ reunion concert last night, top OPM acts such as SB19 and NOBITA have put their own unique spin on the supergroupโs beloved classics.
Released today under Sony Music Entertainment, the revamped versions honor the timeless appeal of Eheadsโ music while giving it a more contemporary flavor that resonates with the streaming audience. P-Pop Kings SB19 captures the spirit of the holidays with their own take on โChristmas Party,โ a song off The Eraserheadsโ fourth studio album, Fruitcake. Turning the original into a festive banger, the five-member boyband incorporates elements of dance-pop, R&B/hip-hop, and modern funk into the mix while carrying with them the vibe and energy of the trackโs nostalgic past.
โThe Eraserheads is one of the most influential bands of our time,โ says SB19 in a statement. โWe retained everything thatโs great about the song but made sure to add our own creative direction in terms of the overall sound. Thereโs a balance of artistic liberty and compromise in the way we approach the material, and weโre definitely happy with how it turned out.โ
Stell of SB19 adds, โwe feel honored that we were chosen to recreate the song. Our tour schedule was really tight, but gladly we were still able to push through with it before leaving LA. Recording in a different country also feels surreal, we didnโt expect weโd reach this far.โ
The eclectic rendition of โChristmas Party,โ is produced by August Rigo, the hitmaker behind some of BTSโ biggest global smashes (โOnโ and โBlack Swanโ).
NOBITA, whose single โIkaw Langโ is the most streamed song of 2022 according to Spotify Wrapped, expressed enthusiasm and gratitude when they found out that theyโre part of the music project that pays tribute to the generation-defining catalog of The Eraserheads. “We grew up listening to and playing Eheads songs,” the alt-rock group says in a statement. โNOBITA heavily draws inspiration from their music, especially their brand of songwriting. Their work has shaped us into where we are now, and weโre forever grateful for their enormous contribution to OPM artists, young and old.โ
For their part, NOBITA adds a little jazz-pop treatment to โMagasinโ without completely losing the songโs upbeat and heavily melodic arrangement. Slightly slowing it down with stripped-down finesse, the chart-topping five-piece act puts sunshine back in โhugotโ with anendearingly surprising twist.
Apart from the revamped tracks by some of todayโs biggest hitmakers, five of The Eraserheadsโ legendary albums were re-released in full 360-degree spatial sound to give listeners a new immersive music experience. These influential records include Ultraelectromagneticpop!: The 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition, Circus (25th Anniversary Remastered), Cutterpillow, Fruitcake, and Sticker Happy.
SB19โs โChristmas Partyโ and NOBITAโs โMagasinโ are out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
Always a good memory with Super Junior โ from Super Show 2, and now, Super Show 9 in Manila.
These days, it seems a K-Pop act is in the country every weekend. This wasnโt always the case. The road to K-Pop artists seeing the Philippines as a tour destination is long, and Super Junior, without question, paved the way.
Twelve years after they first brought Super Show 2 to Manila, the group returned to the SM Mall of Asia Arena for two days of Super Show 9:Road, taking their rightful throne as kings of the genre.
Super Junior led the pack of K-Pop groups that broke through mainstream Philippine media in the late 2000s. When virality was more novelty than the norm, their earworm of a track “Sorry, Sorry” was heard all over the world in 2009, thanks to a dance number by the famed Cebu Dancing Inmates. In 2012, members Siwon and Donghae became the first Korean ambassadors to endorse a local brand, and ELFs would make the trip to Guadalupe for a glimpse of their gigantic ad.
The chemistry between Super Junior and ELFs is unmatched. Super Junior are industry veterans, having debuted in 2005. The fandom has become veteran concert-goers as well. Since Super Show 2, all Super Show installments have come to the Philippines with the exception of Super Show 4 and 6. The crowd may seem laid-back, but as soon as the lights are off, these K-Pop titas and titos go wild.
The K-Pop royalty that they are, they fittingly opened the night donning Renaissance-era suits for “Burn the Floor”, “The Crown”, “Super”, and “Mr. Simple”. The setlist was divided into four thematic segments evoking a range of emotions, starting with dark and heavy tracks and ending with fun, upbeat dance themes. Old-time favorites like “Sorry, Sorry”, “Bonamana”, and “Mr. Simple” were of course on the list, as well as “Callinโ” which was released this February.
Super Junior gave Filipino fans the privilege of being the first in the world to hear “Celebrate” and “White Love” from their freshly released The Road: Celebration album. The music video for the title track “Celebrate” was released just the day prior. Even with the announcement of the performance being short notice, ELFs came through with sapphire blue hand banners that will hopefully appear on the live performance video the label is putting together.
The special video of “Celebrate”, clips from Super Show 9 in Manila, was released on December 21.
Widely recognized as among the funniest idols, Super Junior brought their comedic chops for a special segment where they dressed up head-to-toe as Classical composers competing to be recognized as the God of Music. After a wildly-entertaining video of them deep into their characters, they rose to the stage to perform operatic versions of “SPY”, “Rokkugo”, and “Mamacita”. Humor and banter have always been Super Juniorโs most charming quality, and it shines through even on tape.
The stage layout was generous, and the group was an armโs reach away from the standing and seated VIP sections. Donghae in particular took time to borrow a few phones for selfies and high-fived as many as he could on the extended stages.
This concert did not come without challenges. Super Show 9 was originally scheduled for August 6 this year but had to be postponed after the death of Eunhyukโs father and Siwonโs CoViD-19 diagnosis. On the afternoon of the original date, Label SJ announced that the concert was postponed, but that the members still wanted to greet the fans. With utmost humility, the group stepped onstage to apologize to a tearful crowd. On that day, a promise was made: Super Junior will return at a better time, and ELFs will cheer for them as loud as they can.
For how melancholic the 2022 schedule became, this do-over turned it around. Promises were fulfilled on both ends. Eunhyuk confessed he was worried about how things would turn out and was apologetic about the concert cancellation. The audience responded with warm cheers of โitโs okayโ and chants of his name.
This is their last Super Show for the year. They mused about how Filipino ELFs are Christmas presents to them, and how the show has become their early Christmas present for fans as well. By the end, a promise to come back soon was signed and sealed once again.
Super Show 9: Road in Manila is presented by PULP Live World and Happee Hour. Special thanks to PULP Live World and Happee Hour for the invite to the event.
Thereโs no arguing about it, Christmas is quite possibly the most awaited holiday in the Philippines. From the bright lights, delicious meals, and catching up with family and friends, thereโs really nothing like the Filipino holiday season! Following over two years of being kept in the โdarkโ by the global pandemic, 2022 is ending on a high note and leaving us with brighter possibilities for the year to come. Everyoneโs wish seems to have been granted this year as social gatherings and live events are finally (almost!!!) in full swing.
