  • Indie rock artist SUYEN to relase much-awaited debut EP “Suyen Imnida”

Indie rock artist SUYEN to relase much-awaited debut EP “Suyen Imnida”

Following the success of her hit singles “Bente,” “Tampo,” and “Teka Lang! (looper machine),” rising indie rock star SUYEN is thrilled to announce the release of her debut EP, “Suyen Imnida,” under PolyEast Records through its sub-label, filtered music.

This highly anticipated six-track EP delves into themes of teenage punk and young love. The title track, “Suyen Imnida,” serves as an exciting introduction to SUYEN as an artist and is inspired by her real personality. “Suyen Imnida is a song about me– introduction siya kung sa galing yung name ko, taga san ako, ano yung mga gusto ko at mga struggles ko sa buhay. Ito usually ang first song ko sa gigs because it actually represents who I am.”

Fans can look forward to an eclectic mix of sounds showcasing her musical journey’s passion and energy. Other songs on the EP are “Isang Linggong Maghihintay”, “Something ‘bout u”, and “Suyen Imnida”. According to Suyen, the EP would not be possible without the help of Zild Benitez of the rock band IV of Spades as album producer and One Click Straight’s Sam Marquez as sound engineer.

Suyen has been performing gigs here and there as an emerging artist and has gained an impressive following on social media. She draws significant inspiration from local artists she admires. She shared, “I have always been a fan of (rock band) Sandwich, so I’m looking forward to working with them. Additionally, we are part of the same label. Their music has greatly inspired me throughout my journey of growing and honing my talent as a musician.”

“This EP has brought me a new perspective towards my music. The moment na andito na ako, mas na feel ko na seryoso na siya at di na lang siya hobby so may pressure talaga. But at the same time, since i’m only starting, ine-enjooy ko lang lahat ng moment,” she also added.

To celebrate the release, PolyEast Records hosted SUYEN’s EP launch on February 21 at Kowloon House in Quezon City. The event was also graced with performances by another PolyEast Records artist ila, Ena Mori, and Aunt Robert, concluding a night of unforgettable music and vibrant performances of young songwriters in the music scene.

  • SKYGARDEN collaborates with Jillian Ward for new single “Soredemo (Kahit Na)”

SKYGARDEN collaborates with Jillian Ward for new single “Soredemo (Kahit Na)”

Japanese trio SKYGARDEN, composed of Ryo Nagatsuka, Hiro Ozaki, and Iwa Maegawa, has teamed up with Star of the New Gen and Sparkle artist Jillian Ward for their new single Soredemo (Kahit Na). This powerful song speaks about a love that defies the odds and stands strong despite challenges.

“Soredemo (Kahit Na),” meaning “Even Though” in English, tells the story of two people whose love seems impossible but remains unshaken. It’s a message of resilience and commitment, showing that no matter what obstacles stand in the way, their love will endure.

The song’s concept emerged during a casual studio session back in late 2022. Hiro recalls the moment as an impromptu jam that turned into something more.

“It’s about saying ‘I love you’ even when it feels like the odds are against you,” the group’s lead singer Ryo shared.

Jillian’s involvement brought a special touch to the project. Her voice added an extra layer of emotion and depth.

“After listening to our first demo, we felt that a female voice is needed to balance the song’s narrative. That’s when we scrolled through our Instagram feed and discovered Jillian’s love for Japanese culture. When we met her, we thought it might be difficult because of the different languages, but Jillian was so committed. She practiced hard and gave the song a fresh, sweet sound,” said Ryo.

“She was very cute but strict and disciplined with herself. She never hesitated to ask us how to pronounce certain phrases perfectly,” Iwa added.

Musically, Soredemo (Kahit Na) showcases SKYGARDEN’s evolving sound. While they are known for their upbeat, fast-paced J-Rock style, this track leans towards a more melancholic ballad. Hiro described it as a blend of their J-Rock roots with the heartfelt style of OPM (Original Pilipino Music). “Living in the Philippines has influenced our music,” Ryo added. “We’ve infused Filipino traits into this song while still maintaining our J-Rock base.”

The band hopes Soredemo (Kahit Na) will resonate especially with Gen Z listeners. Ryo expressed that many younger people today struggle to express their feelings or face challenges head-on. “We hope this song encourages them to stay strong, not only in love but also in other difficult moments in life,” he said.

Looking ahead, SKYGARDEN teased exciting new projects, including live performances and collaborations. “We’re working on new music, live performances, and more surprises for our fans,” Hiro hinted. Ryo expressed his desire to work with Sanya Lopez, noting her impressive vocal work on her song Furusato. Meanwhile, Iwa shared his wish to collaborate with Michael V, adding a touch of humor: “I’d love to do a comedy version of Soredemo (Kahit Na) with him.”

  • Plume releases his true emotions with new track “Panggap”

Plume releases his true emotions with new track “Panggap”

AltG Records’ Baguio-based singer-songwriter Plume bares his soul and emotions in his second single “Panggap,” set to release this August 30 on digital platforms worldwide. The track explores the theme of masked emotions and the quest for genuine happiness.

The inspiration behind “Panggap” stems from the story of an individual struggling and pretending to be happy. Plume explains, “The main inspiration for the song is about someone who’s trying to pretend to be happy. While he is pretending, he’s trying to find someone to pretend with, and as they go on with their lives and journey, they eventually learn to be happy together without having to pretend.”

A personal experience also influenced the creation of Plume’s track. “There was a day when I was having a bad day, and I was talking to someone who was also feeling down. Instead of telling her I was also in a bad mood, I pretended I was fine and just tried to cheer her up so that at least one of us would feel better.”

One of the most striking lines from “Panggap” is “Tumawa ka lang, ngumiti ka lang na tila wala nang bukas pa.”

“I wanted the listener, or in this case, the person in the story, to just be happy. You don’t have to pretend. Just be happy. If you can smile, just smile. Live your life to the fullest, as if it’s your last day to be happy. So why not do it right now?,” says Plume.

Through the song, he hopes to inspire listeners to embrace their true emotions. “I hope that those who are pretending to be someone they’re not or hiding their true feelings, that when they listen to this song, will be inspired to be true to themselves. If you’re sad, cry. If you’re happy, laugh. I hope this song encourages people to be honest with their emotions,” he ends.

“Panggap” will be available on all major streaming platforms starting August 30.

  • Abby Clutario drops emotional single “Naglalambing”

Abby Clutario drops emotional single “Naglalambing”

GMA Music’s multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Abby Clutario releases her second single, “Naglalambing,” following the success of her previous track, “Laho.” Both tracks are from her album “Lambing.”

This new song offers a mature and reflective perspective on past relationships, providing listeners with a deep and emotional experience. In contrast to the upbeat and crush-infused vibes of “Laho,” “Naglalambing” delves into the complexities of past love and loss. Abby describes the song as a contemplative exploration of exes and the lingering “what ifs” that come with reminiscing about past relationships.

“This song is a bit of a contrast to ‘Laho.’ While ‘Laho’ was about those sweet, chummy feelings we get around our crushes, ‘Naglalambing’ dives into more mature territory. It’s about exes and the ‘what ifs’ that come with looking back at past relationships,” Abby shares.

Abby’s reflection on “Naglalambing” is about closure and reflection. “It’s about looking back at past relationships and wondering about the roads not taken. What if I could talk to my ex again? It’s about reflecting on past experiences, finding closure, and moving forward. The song is very stripped down. It captures that sentimental part of us Filipinos. Our generation loves to hear music that reminds them of their youth, and I wanted to tap into that,” adds Abby.

The single is now available on all major streaming platforms. Its official performance video release on GMA Music’s YouTube channel and AltG Records Facebook page last June 28. Abby also performed the song at the Progressive Rock Stage 11 at 12 Monkeys with Joey G on last June 28.

Papa Obet sings of love and loss in “Naghihintay”

“I wrote this song based on the experiences that many people encounter today,” Papa Obet explains. “There are those who hope, those who wait, those who leave, and those who are left behind. And sometimes, those who leave may never come back, but we still hold on to hope that they will.”

The song’s message of acceptance and moving on is one that Papa Obet hopes will resonate with listeners. “The first step is acceptance,” he says. “You need to accept that the person you’re waiting for is gone. Don’t regret it, don’t blame yourself. At least you tried waiting. You fought for them, and even though they didn’t come back, you didn’t lose.”

  • Gel Aquino unveils single about personal loss “Kinakaya”

Gel Aquino unveils single about personal loss “Kinakaya”

Singer-songwriter Gel Aquino will release her deeply personal and moving single, “Kinakaya,” under GMA Music. The song, which taps into the experience of heartbreak and loss, draws inspiration from Aquino’s journey through grief and healing.

Aquino explains that “Kinakaya” is a tribute to those who have suffered the pain of being left behind by loved ones. “My inspiration is those who were hurt by love and those who were left behind by their loved ones. Those broken-hearted who experienced being left behind. ‘Yung mga kailangang bumitaw sa isang relasyon kaya ngayon kinakaya nila ang pag-mo-move on na wala na ang taong mahal nila. ‘Yun ang inspiration nito,” she shared.

The song was born during a particularly challenging time in Aquino’s life. “Sinulat ko ito noong time na active ako magsulat at mag-compose ng kanta. Noong time din na ‘to broken hearted ako and very depressed, pandemic noon tapos nawala na ‘yung lola ko. Hindi ko nalaman agad na nawala na pala siya, two months later ko na nalaman. So para din ito sa lola ko at sa mga taong nakaranas na iwan ng mahal nila,” she recalled.

The loss of her grandmother served as a significant catalyst for the song’s creation. “Independent ako and hindi ako masyadong nakikipag-communicate sa mga kamag-anak ko. Then nakita ko na lang nag-message sila na wala na ang lola ko. Kaya pala ‘nung mga buwan na ‘yun lagi kong napapanaginipan ang lola ko. Kaya nasulat ko ang kantang ito para sa lola ko na kinakaya ko ang sakit na wala na siya. Hindi man lang kami nagkita bago siya mamatay.”

Aquino hopes that “Kinakaya” will offer solace and strength to listeners facing their own struggles. “The message of the song is that we need to endure the pain that we feel from a person who left us. Kailangan natin ng time para makapag-heal and ‘wag tayong mawawalan ng pag-asa at isipin na itong pain na ito ay wala nang katapusan. Darating ang panahon na sasaya ka ulit at magiging mas malakas ka. You can transform yourself to be a better person then.”

“Kinakaya” will be available on digital platforms beginning May 26.
