Fête de la Musique 2026 Main Stage Hits Makati This Weekend!

OPM heavyweights Lola Amour, Morobeats, and the long-awaited return of Radioactive Sago Project lead the massive, free celebration at Ayala Triangle Gardens.

Fête de la Musique Philippines 2026 is taking over Makati City this weekend, bringing together a stellar lineup of OPM icons—headlined by chart-toppers Lola Amour, hip-hop powerhouse Morobeats, and the historic return of the legendary Radioactive Sago Project—for the festival’s highly anticipated free Main Stage concert this Saturday, June 20, at the Ayala Triangle Gardens.

With the theme “For the People, By the People,” the 32nd edition of Fête de la Musique Philippines is integrating its main celebrations with the Makati Street Meet and the Makati City Fiesta for a massive cultural showcase presented by Alliance Française de Manille, the Embassy of France to the Philippines, and Funkybeat Entertainment.

The headline event is marked by a historic milestone for local music fans as the legendary jazz-rock and spoken-word collective Radioactive Sago Project will take the stage for their first live performance after an extended eight-year hiatus.

The Main Stage also features  a heavy-hitting roster of contemporary OPM icons and breakthrough acts. Joining the lineup are chart-topping pop-rock group Lola Amour, known for some of the country’s biggest recent hits, and Morobeats, the powerhouse hip-hop collective driving the genre’s current resurgence. Rounding out the localized showcase is the Jewelmer Jazz Band, which is set to bring world-class, sophisticated jazz rhythms to the open-air venue, alongside dynamic performances from indie favorites fitterkarma and pop-rock band Nameless Kids.

International performers are also slated to take the stage over the June 20–21 weekend. The lineup features French krautrock trio Meule and French-Vietnamese harpist Héloïse La Harpe.

In tandem with the musical performances, the festival will expand into a cultural lifestyle hub along Paseo de Roxas from June 20 to 21.

The French Market will run concurrently with the concerts, offering attendees an authentic selection of French gastronomic specialties, artisanal goods, and fine wines. The event bridges the festival’s French roots with local community spaces.

The Makati Main Stage serves as the anchor for FêtePH2026’s broader, nationwide footprint. Following the Asia–France Music Bridge Workshops on June 19, the festival will transition into its localized phase on Friday, June 26, with the return of the genre-specific Pocket Stages across Makati.

From June 20 to 28, the festival rolls out across the archipelago, activating 23 NCR Stages and 66 stages across 33 Destination Stages spanning Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The month-long programming concludes on June 29 with an intimate performance by jazz duo Project Yazz at the Long Bar in Raffles Makati.

Admission to the Main Stage and all subsequent Fête de la Musique events remains free to the public. For official schedules, set times, and stage maps, updates are published via Fête de la Musique Philippines’ official social media channels.

    AFTER OZ ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL SHOW!

Due to insistent public demand, an additional 2:00 PM show has been added on July 10 for AFTER OZ with Wicked on Broadway’s Lissa De Guzman and Allie Trimm at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.

On July 10, Broadway stars Lissa De Guzman (Wicked, Aladdin, King Kong) and Allie Trim (Wicked, Bye Bye Birdie, 13) take the stage of the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in a supposed one-night-only concert that marks both a milestone and a celebration of artistry. The additional performance follows after tickets sold out sooner than anticipated.

Going beyond the emerald curtain, AFTER OZ is a special presentation headlined by Wicked on Broadway’s Lissa de Guzman (Elphaba) and Allie Trimm (Glinda). This milestone event reflects Samsung Performing Arts Theater’s commitment to building audiences, activating creative spaces, and establishing Circuit Makati as a destination for culture, performance, and artistic exchange that bring communities together.

Together with Farley Asunción & the After Oz Orchestra, and also featuring the UST Singers and Mari Dance, AFTER OZ celebrates what happens after the role, after the spotlight, and after the curtain falls. The program brings together powerful Broadway numbers, moving original compositions, and reimagined pop anthems—all brought to life through immersive visuals and theatrical design.

The show is directed by Mikko Angeles, with musical direction by Farley Asuncion, choreography by JM Cabling, set design by Ohm David, lighting design by Meliton Roxas, and visual projections by Justin Santiago.

The concert sees the return of Lissa De Guzman, last seen by Manila audiences in her magnificent turn as Cassie in Theatre Group Asia’s A Chorus Line. Audiences and critics were unanimous in hailing De Guzman as a “world class performer whose command of the stage as Cassie is so palpable, showcasing
incredible vocal control and power even while executing a grueling and high intensity solo.” This time, she is joined by her Broadway colleague Allie Trimm (“Dazzling as the Good Witch Glinda” – New Yorker) as they take audiences on a magical journey that promises to leave everyone spellbound. Joining the
two powerhouse divas is another powerhouse, Asia’s Phoenix, Morissette, preparing for her return to the theater stage soon with The Notebook The Musical, making the evening a true celebration of artistry and world-class talent!

The concert also marks a significant moment for the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, which has, since its opening in 2022, become a home for world-class productions. On its fourth year, it stands as a space where stories are told and where Filipino and international talent come together to create unforgettable experiences. • Reigniting the Goblet of Fire, Film-Concert Style!

Reigniting the Goblet of Fire, Film-Concert Style!

On June 6 to 7, Potterheads gathered at The Theater at Solaire for their annual film concert fix. This time, it was time for the fourth movie: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Concert, continuing from last year’s Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert. Under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga, the Filharmonika Orchestra performed a total of three spectacular shows over the weekend.a

The Solaire theater lobby was adorned with the banners of the coats of arms for Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang – the Big Three of the European wizarding academe. This honors the central events of the movie: the Triwizard Tournament and the Yule Ball. The audience had a ball (pun intended) in mixing and matching their school-inspired outfits – the long cloak and striped ties of Hogwarts, the soft blue dress of Beauxbatons and the crimson red coat of Durmstrang. Some notable cosplays also include Sirius Black and a Death Eater.

Released in 2005, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire marked a shift in the movie series as it veered away from the more whimsical part of the wizarding world, delving deeper instead into the darkness of Voldemort’s revival. The story thus far goes: In his fourth year in Hogwarts, Harry is mysteriously chosen as the fourth champion in the legendary Triwizard Tournament, a 700-year old tradition observed by the three largest wizarding schools in Europe. He would be faced with extremely perilous tasks that involve figuring out magical riddles, fighting off dragons and merpeople, and rescuing his best friends. However, unbeknownst to Harry, the biggest danger of them all – the Dark Lord himself – would be waiting for him at the end.

Musically, there was also a significant change: Goblet of Fire was the first in the franchise to have a different soundtrack composer. John Williams, main composer for the first three films, passed the baton to Scottish composer Patrick Doyle. In tune with the story, Doyle’s pieces were heavier and darker, accenting the looming danger across the wizarding world.

At the beginning of the show, Gerard Salonga took the time to address the crowd, encouraging them to express their reactions as the orchestra played. Cheers and boos were welcome, and these were very much heard during the introduction of certain characters.

As one of the most beloved film franchises in the world, Harry Potter has become a classic, especially with millennials who grew up reading the books. As part of that generation, I can say that watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Concert in 2026 felt like re-experiencing a foregone era but with sharper sounds and music of the highest fidelity, all thanks to the live orchestra that seamlessly integrated their music with the movie.

Among all the Harry Potter films, Goblet was the one that I rarely rewatched. Seeing it again after such a long time and in a film-concert format made me appreciate the emotional intensity of the story even more.

As the Filharmonika Orchestra played the festive theme of “The Quidditch World Cup”, it felt like the high-octane energy of the wizardkind crowd burst through the screen. As Ireland launched the dancing leprechaun fireworks into the night sky and as Bulgaria’s Viktor Krum gloriously flew across the stadium, I actually felt excited to see the match, only to be bitterly reminded later on that the film had indeed skipped that part from the book.

Patrick Doyle’s compositions captured the creeping, ominous atmosphere of the movie so well. The intense low-pitch thrumming that was pervasive in “The Dark Mark”, “The Black Lake” and “The Maze” made the lurking danger more imminent.

In contrast to this darkness, Goblet also had its lighter moments, particularly the moments leading up to the Yule Ball. There was a romantic melancholy when “Harry in Winter” played, with Harry walking across the snow-laden landscape of Hogwarts up to the point where he bumps into Cho Chang who rejected his proposal to be his date to the Yule Ball. Meanwhile, hearing the orchestra play “Potter Waltz” live made the dance scene all the more dreamy.

Certainly, the most affecting part of the movie was the concluding task of the Triwizard Maze which ended in Voldemort’s resurrection and Cedric Diggory’s death. When the music played, the terror and the tragedy of it all felt even more harrowing than I remembered it from literally ages ago.

Watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Concert felt like being transported to that crowded movie house in 2005, and reliving the wonder of being captivated by a piece of literature and film so much that you can’t quite peel your eyes from it. In my case, it has been too long since I saw the movie, and I was, quite frankly, amazed at how much I had forgotten.

With the Filharmonika Orchestra playing the soundtracks wonderfully, the experience was so enchanting that two and a half hours went by in a flash. When the end credits rolled in, and they played the closing medley, there was this quick, satisfying snap back to reality and I thought to myself, “Ahh, I’m so glad I saw this movie in concert”.

Special thanks to Film Concerts PH!

  • Manila Symphony Orchestra Centennial Concert III – LIBERATION: 80 Years of Philippine Republic all set on July 4!

Manila Symphony Orchestra Centennial Concert III – LIBERATION: 80 Years of Philippine Republic all set on July 4!

Presented by the Manila Symphony Orchestra Foundation, Inc. and Standard Insurance; co-presented by EastWest Bank and PAGCOR in partnership with Bagong Pilipinas, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and The Metropolitan Theater.

In Pursuit of Excellence CELEBRATION: The MSO Centennial Season Concert III – 80 Years of Filipino-American Friendship.
    July 4, 2026 Saturday – 7:30 PM
    Manila Metropolitan Theater

As part of its Centennial Season, the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) commemorates a landmark event in both Philippine history. Eighty years ago, on July 5, 1946, following the inauguration of the Republic of the Philippines, the MSO presented a Gala Symphony Concert at the Rizal Memorial Stadium as part of the national celebrations marking Philippine independence.

This year’s program brings together works by Filipino and American composers whose music reflects the artistic exchanges and cultural connections that have shaped both nations over the past eight decades.

Opening the evening is former MSO Assistant Conductor Col. Antonino Buenaventura’s prize-winning composition, “Youth”, which received its premiere during the 1946 MSO Gala Symphony Concert. Conducted by the composer himself, the work portrays youth as “the epitome of vigor, energy, and love, standing at the threshold of life’s journey”. “Dedicated to the youth of the land whose faith in democracy and freedom has been kept inviolate even unto the gates of death,” the piece captures the optimism, resilience, and aspirations of a nation emerging from war.

The program continues with Lucio San Pedro’s “Concerto in D Minor” for Violin and Orchestra. Recognized as the first complete violin concerto written by a Filipino composer, the work was composed in 1948 as San Pedro’s final output upon completing his composition studies at the Juilliard School in New York. The concerto reflects the educational exchanges that have connected Filipino and American music while occupying an important place in the development of Philippine classical music. This work will be performed by violinist Jeanne Marquez, a recent graduate of the Juilliard School with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance.

Representing the American tradition are Artie Shaw’s “Concerto for Clarinet”, featuring Jeanne’s older brother, Jason Marquez, a Filipino-American principal clarinetist in Michigan and Texas; and George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture for orchestra”, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. Together, these works showcase the breadth of American music, drawing from jazz, popular music, and the symphonic tradition.

Under the baton of Jose Reyna, Jr., an American Prize-winning Filipino conductor, hailed as the “Filipino Toscanini” (The Manila Bulletin) for his panache and artistry on the podium, this concert celebrates not only 80 years of Filipino-American friendship but also the Manila Symphony Orchestra’s continuing role in marking important moments in the nation’s cultural life.

This celebration will be held at the Manila Metropolitan Theater, a venue associated with the MSO since the theater’s inauguration in 1931. The occasion also serves as a homecoming for the orchestra as it returns to its longtime artistic home and embarks on a partnership with the Metropolitan Theater in the seasons ahead.

Sam Concepcion, KD Estrada, Jeff Moses, and Anthony Rosaldojoin Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical!

The cast of Bongga Ka, ‘Day! The Annie Batungbakal Musical is shaping up to be truly ‘bongga’, kicking with an all-star lineup of today’s most sought-after theater heartthrobs.

Newport World Resorts, in association with VIVA Communications and The Philippine STAR, unveiled Sam Concepcion, KD Estrada, Jeff Moses, and Anthony Rosaldo as the musical’s leading men.

Concepcion takes on the role of Romer, a 27 year-old cosmopolitan, flirty, and self-assured man who knows he’s handsome and worldly. He is a flight attendant who dabbles in photography. Coming from a well-off family, he is the only son of the owner of House of Pasion.

Estrada steps into the character of Burn, a down-to-earth folk-rock singer in his mid 20s. Burn is known for performing cover songs but dreams of making a name for himself through his own original music. Determined to get his big break, he sets out on a journey to achieve his dreams while balancing stability and his passion.

    Sam Concepcion as Romer

Sam Concepcion is one of Philippine entertainment’s most accomplished triple threats. Equally at home on the concert stage, television screen, and theater stage, Concepcion has built a remarkable career spanning over two decades. Theater audiences most recently saw him as the wealthy aristocrat Daniel Beauxhomme in 9 Works Theatrical’s staging of Once on This Island, following his widely praised performance as Popoy in PETA’s blockbuster hit One More Chance The Musical.

    KD Estrada as Burn

KD Estrada, whose growing theater career continues to excite audiences. Estrada comes fresh off a highly celebrated run of Bagets The Musical, where he starred as the well-off, conyo high schooler Arnel. He made his musical theater debut in 2023 in PETA’s award-winning zarzuela-comedy Walang Aray.

    Jeff Moses as Romer

Jeff Moses continues to build momentum as one of the most promising young performers transitioning from television to theater. Best known to many viewers through his appearances in hit television dramas, Moses successfully made his stage debut in Bagets The Musical, where he portrayed the martial arts-loving Topee. His natural charm and strong vocals quickly endeared him to audiences, making him a welcome addition to the world of Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical.

    Anthony Rosaldo as Romer

Anthony Rosaldo, a powerhouse vocalist and former The Clash finalist, has become a familiar face in musical theater through a string of standout performances. In 2024, he starred as Roger Davis in the Manila revival of Jonathan Larson’s Rent. Before that, he made his theatrical debut as Young Hector in the long-running hit musical Ang Huling El Bimbo in 2023.

Together, these four performers bring a wealth of experience, charisma, and musicality to the production. With its leading men now unveiled, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a bongga theatrical experience. More cast members will be revealed soon.

  • SIENNA SPIRO ANNOUNCES “MY HOUSE TOUR”COMING TO MANILA ON 9 JANUARY 2027TICKETS ON-SALE NEXT WEEK!

SIENNA SPIRO ANNOUNCES “MY HOUSE TOUR”COMING TO MANILA ON 9 JANUARY 2027TICKETS ON-SALE NEXT WEEK!

Today, show-stopping London-born singer and songwriter SIENNA SPIRO announces the “My House” tour, including an extensive North American fall run followed by dates in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe. MANILA will be on Saturday, January 9, 2027 at the New Frontier Theater. Presented by Wilbros Live. Ticket pre-sales begin Tuesday, June 16 at 10AM, while general on-sale starts Thursday, June 18 at 10AM via TicketNet.com.ph and TicketNet outlets nationwide.

Said SIENNA, “I truly can’t wait for this tour. This is the biggest I’ve ever done and we’re going to perform in places I’ve never been before! I’m so excited to see you all and sing the songs from Visitor with you.”

Following stateside festival stops including Lollapalooza, Newport Jazz, Outside Lands, All Things Go, and Austin City Limits, SIENNA kicks off The My House Tour on October 13 at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium. She then plays cities including Atlanta, D.C., New York, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver, and more, before wrapping up on November 10 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. She’s also returning to San Francisco’s historic Castro Theatre, where she joined Sam Smith in March for a surprise duet of her hit “Die On This Hill”.The tour news arrives as SIENNA covers the June/July issue of Rolling Stone UK, and follows a series of overseas dates where she debuted a striking yet cozy stage setup including plush curtains, carpeted floors, vintage audio equipment, lamps, and vinyl records — get a glimpse, and preview her unreleased song “My House,”. The spring U.S. leg of that same tour stirred up rave reviews, including from Variety, who dubbed SIENNA “one of the greatest voices of her generation” and Los Angeles Times, who professed that her voice, “might be the most impressive instrument to come out of England since Adele emerged nearly two decades ago.”

Just last week, SIENNA released the official music video for her enthralling single “The Visitor”. Written and produced by SIENNA with Omer Fedi (SZA, Lil Nas X) and Michael Pollack (Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus), the song draws its power from a spellbinding vocal recorded in one take, lyrics that cut to the bone, and a 20-piece string orchestra led and arranged by Academy Award-winner Peter Rotter (OppenheimerThe Last Repair Shop). While SIENNA’s poetry and the video nod to matters of the heart, by the song’s end, we sense that she’s singing about something more: a strong awareness of impermanence — of things ending and people leaving — that can quickly turn into paralyzing fear. That sentiment is the driving force behind the concept that powers Visitor, the album.

Of course, SIENNA is very much here to stay. Her music has amassed over 1.2 billion global streams so far and, in late March, she had a trio of singles climbing the Hot 100 all at once: “The Visitor” (which so far peaked at #43), heartwrenching UK Platinum smash “Die On This Hill” (#19), and the enduring “You Stole The Show” (#55). All three are set to appear on Visitor, which was executive produced by Fedi with additional production from an elite crew including Blake Slatkin, Yakob, and Pollack, plus composers like Larry Gold (Al Green, Silk Sonic) andRotter. SIENNA and her hand-picked collaborators brought her vision to life in an array of legendary spaces like Electric Lady Studios in New York, Abbey Road Studios in London, and Valentine Recording Studios in Los Angeles.

As much as her timeless songcraft, SIENNA’s staggering performances have been central to her rise. She opened 2026 with an unforgettable rendition of “Die On This Hill” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, inspiring a standing ovation and flabbergasting her host. Recently, she capped off a series of stunning UK TV appearances by singing Nat King Cole’s “Nature Boy” for the BBC’s David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth special. Sienna will also make her debut as a featured artist on Season 52 of Austin City Limits, taping July 15.

After entering the year shortlisted for the BRIT Awards’ esteemed Critics’ Choice for 2026 award, 20-year-old SIENNA landed on Forbes’ latest 30 Under 30 list; received two 2026 American Music Award nominations for Best Vocal Performance and Breakthrough Pop Artist; sat down for equally charming and revealing interviews with the likes of ELLE, NYLON, and Interview Magazine; and garnered critical acclaim from Rolling StoneDazedThe New York TimesV MagazineThe Hollywood Reporter, and more. SIENNA also wrote the song “Material Lover” exclusively for The Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack.A DIY-minded artist who first started penning songs when she was 10, SIENNA’s earliest inspirations included Frank Ocean, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, and Amy Winehouse. She began integrating jazz elements into her music while gently leaning toward more contemporary sonic aesthetics on her 2025 debut EP SINK NOW, SWIM LATER. Now, with Visitor on the way, SIENNA shows no sign of slowing down.

A1 Expands “Love in the Philippines Tour 2026” with Third Show in Santa Rosa Laguna!

British-Norwegian Boy Band A1 confirms additional Laguna date amid strong demand for their October Philippine return

There are comebacks—and then there’s the kind that keeps multiplying by fan demand.

A1 are set to return to the Philippines this October 2026, and what was already shaping up to be a two-city pop celebration has now grown even bigger with the announcement of a third show in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

The newly added stop lands on 18 October 2026 (Sunday) at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex, completing a tightly packed Philippine run that now spans Cebu, Manila, and South Luzon. Tickets go on sale, June 15, 12 noon onwards.

The expanded itinerary comes ahead of what is expected to be one of the group’s most emotional and high-energy Asia visits in recent years, following continued strong fan response to their previous Philippine tours.

Across the dates, A1—Paul Marazzi, Christian Ingebrigtsen, Mark Read, and Ben Adams—will revisit the songs that defined their rise during the late 1990s pop era, a catalogue that continues to resonate deeply with Filipino audiences decades later.

Expect live renditions of signature tracks including “Like a Rose,” “Everytime,” “Heaven by Your Side,” and “Same Old Brand New You,” each performance reinforcing the enduring bond between the group and their Philippine fanbase alongside new music.

Their return follows the success of their earlier Valentine’s run in 2025, which drew strong turnout across key cities and reaffirmed their status as one of the most supported international pop acts in the country.

  • Hazel Faith Enters Her Lover Girl Era with Love Song Stories!

Hazel Faith Enters Her Lover Girl Era with Love Song Stories!

For Hazel Faith, love has never been just a theme—it’s been a journey. One that has taken years to fully understand, and even longer to put into song.

With her upcoming sophomore album, LSS (Love Song Stories), the Filipino singer-songwriter opens a deeply personal chapter—one she describes as “mini-movies playing in your head.” Each track unfolds like a story, capturing the many faces of love: imagined, experienced, lost, and finally, found.

“Every song has a story to tell,” Hazel shares. “At the same time, the songs are made in such a way that you will get major Last Song Syndrome.”

    A Decade of Kinikilig
At the heart of Love Song Stories lies a song that started it all.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Kinikilig,” the track that carved out Hazel Faith’s place in OPM as a voice for joy, hope, and romantic sincerity. In a landscape dominated by heartbreak anthems, Kinikilig offered something different—light, hopeful, and unabashedly in love.

“All the love Kinikilig received throughout the years gave me encouragement that there is a place for my kind of songs,” she reflects.

Now, a decade later, the song returns as Kinikilig (Hyper Kilig Ver.)”, the title track of Love Song Stories—a brighter, fuller evolution of the song that started it all.

    A Story That Took Time
Some stories in Love Song Stories are from her imagination. Others proved prophetic.

One of the album’s most emotional moments comes from Everything Takes Time”—a song that encapsulates Hazel’s entire journey.

During the recording process, the track proved almost too real.

“I literally cried in the middle of re-recording it,” she recalls. “My life flashed before my eyes… it was not an easy path, and I made a lot of mistakes along the way. But by God’s grace, I still got there.”

The song serves as both reflection and reassurance—a reminder that growth, healing, and success don’t happen overnight.

Full Circle: From Glee to LSS
Another deeply meaningful inclusion is “Can’t Comprehend,” a song Hazel wrote at just 18 years old.

More than just an early composition, the track holds a pivotal place in her story—it was the very song that helped her gain recognition during her journey connected to Glee.

Years later, the song finds its rightful home in Love Song Stories, completing a full-circle moment in her career.

“It was a last-minute idea to add the song… but it just felt right to finally let the world hear it,” she shares.

    From Faith to Feeling
“I’ve matured as a songwriter, and at the same time, I’ve grown braver,” Hazel says.
This time, she embraces specificity—no longer hiding behind vague lyrics, but leaning fully into her own experiences.
“I realized the right people would get it. So I threw caution to the wind. It’s for my people.”

    Understanding Love—For Real This Time
“I’ve learned to differentiate kilig with love,” Hazel explains. “Kilig is that rush you feel. But it can fade… love, true and lasting love, is a different kind of kilig altogether.”
That understanding was shaped by real-life love—particularly her relationship with her husband and collaborator, Caleb Santos.

    Stories Behind the Songs

Each track in LSS plays like a chapter:

    • Tamang Kilig” – the album’s defining centerpiece
    • Ngiti Ng Buwan” – the warmth of being in love
    • Cupcake” – playful, bold, and unexpectedly rap-driven
    • Everything Takes Time” – the emotional anchor

Together, they map out the full spectrum of love—from dreaming about it to truly understanding it.

    The Lover Girl Era Begins

“This is my lover girl era,” Hazel says.

An era defined not by perfection, but by honesty. By choosing joy. By believing in love—even after everything.

And if there’s one thing she hopes listeners take away?

    “Happiness.”

STEVE LACY ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM “Oh yeah?” SET FOR RELEASE JULY 17, 2026

Listen to First Single “the feeling” + Watch Music Video Now

    credit: Gus Van Sant

“The subtleties and texture in the vocals, the tactile rumble of drums, and the almost effervescent guitar melodies. The tracks…strike a personal, introspective tone, as if Lacy’s taken the perceptive and cunning lens he’s used to observe life and love from 10,000 feet, and turned it inward. He inhabits these songs emotionally, exploring themes around his racial identity, his relationship to love and trust, and his own sexual fluidity, all with the halfway comedic, occasionally devastating style of observation he’s built a career on.”  – Rolling Stone on Oh yeah?, August 2025

Steve Lacy will release his third album, Oh yeah?, on July 17, 2026 via RCA Records.  The album’s first single “the feeling,” out now, is a brilliant reminder of Lacy’s ability to manifest modern Pop, Alt, and R&B in a sound that is less genre-defying and more genre-defining. An accompanying music video for “the feeling,” directed by Matt Castellanos, is also out now.

WATCH “THE FEELING” MUSIC VIDEO HERE

LISTEN TO “the feeling” HERE PRE-ORDER Oh yeah? HERE

Oh yeah? is Steve’s most personal art to date – the culmination of a four-year journey whereupon Steve found himself feeling at home in foreign countries and situations and less at home at home.  Taking the reins of the production, writing, performance, and the creative, Steve eventually found his way back, and we are thankful he did.

It’s a record for guitar kids who love synths and synth kids who love guitars.  It’s an album splashed with raw openness, energetic connection, sonic beauty, and some of Lacy’s most personal, transparent lyrics.  Oh yeah? is intersectional, cutting, a comedy, a tragedy, and has allowed Steve to further design an aural world that is singularly him.  That “him” has taken Lacy, who released his first EP almost ten years ago, to the highest of highs: at only 28, he has two songs in the Spotify Billions Club, as well as two Grammy Awards.  He has stood alongside his musical peers like Kendrick Lamar and Solange, sells out shows across the globe, and is universally known as a style maverick whose eye for design grows bolder every day.

In a recent cover story, The Cut described Lacy as “potentially being Gen Z’s first rock star,” a big claim in an era of pop girlies, K-Pop kids hunting demons, and country balladeers.  On first listen, Oh yeah? undoubtedly – and instantly – takes that potential and turns it into reality, a defining musical moment for an artist with many, many more to come.

  • Why Filipinos keep coming back to Manila Sound!

Why Filipinos keep coming back to Manila Sound!

Hotdog was an iconic Filipino band formed by brothers Dennis and Rene Garcia in 1972. Credited as a primary exponent of the Manila Sound, the band helped pioneer a musical genre that captured the hearts of Filipinos in the 1970s

For a music genre born under disco lights and bell-bottoms, Manila Sound has had an unusually long afterlife. Decades after its peak, its songs still feel woven into everyday Filipino life. Karaoke nights somehow always end with “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal”. Family celebrations are incomplete without Tito suddenly requesting “Rock Baby Rock”. The genre pulses in the DNA of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) itself. Even Gen Z listeners who never stepped foot inside a disco club can instantly recognize the sound.

    Era before OPM
Before OPM became a catch-all term for Filipino music, Manila Sound was already defining what local pop culture could sound like. Back then, the Philippines had long consumed Western music with enthusiasm. American and British rock records dominated the radio. Meanwhile traditional kundiman and folk songs remained symbols of an older, more formal Filipino identity. Somewhere between, the younger generation was searching for a sound that felt closer to their own lives: urban, chaotic, romantic, funny, ambitious, and unmistakably Filipino.

Hotdog as pioneers of Manila Sound
The rise of Manila Sound can largely be traced back to Hotdog, the genre-defining band that made Taglish, disco, and Manila street culture sound effortlessly cool. Formed by brothers Dennis and Rene Garcia, the group rose to fame in 1974 through the hits “Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko” and “Pers Lab.” They would later cement their legacy through era-defining anthems such as “Manila,” “Annie Batungbakal,” and “Bongga Ka Day.” Hotdog wrote lyrics exactly how young, middle-class Manileños actually spoke: a casual, conversational mix of Tagalog and English. Combined with catchy, Western-style pop arrangements, the music was instantly relatable. Suddenly, Manila Sound was taking over radios, parties, and pop culture conversations everywhere.

    The Manila Sound explosion
Seeing the massive success of Hotdog, the local recording industry went into overdrive. The movement was heavily championed by Vicor Music Corporation, spearheaded by executives Vic del Rosario and Orly Ilacad. They actively scouted and produced local talent to ride the Manila Sound wave.

OPM legends (L-R) Rico J. Puno, Hajji Alejandro, Rey Valera, and Marco Sison shared the stage during The Best of the OPM Hitmakers concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on December 9, 2016.

This era saw an explosion of sub-genres under the Manila Sound umbrella. Artists like Rico J. Puno took Western soul and R&B and infused it with Filipino lyrics and sentimentality as heard in “Kapalaran” and his Taglish cover of “The Way We Were”.

    Disco fever took over
As disco took over the globe, the Philippines responded with its own vibrant dance tracks. VST & Company became the undisputed kings of Manila Sound disco, earning comparisons to the Bee Gees with upbeat anthems like “Awitin Mo At Isasayaw Ko,” and “Magsayawan,” songs that still dominate Filipino parties decades later. Meanwhile, Hagibis brought macho camp into the mainstream with funk-driven hits like “Katawan” and “Legs,” turning clubs and dance floors into full-blown spectacles.

    Soundtrack of Filipino Romance
On the softer side of the genre, bands like Cinderella and The Boyfriends ruled the airwaves with melodic love songs and harmony-filled ballads. The Boyfriends became known for romantic staples such as “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal,” “Dahil Mahal Kita,” and “Salawahan,” while Cinderella captured the sweetness and innocence of young love through timeless hits like “T.L. Ako Sa’yo” and “Bato sa Buhangin.”

Maestro Ryan Cayabyab headlined the Tribute to OPM concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in 2023.

    The Birth of OPM
By the end of the 1970s, Manila Sound began evolving beyond the disco grooves and Taglish pop style that first defined the movement. As the music matured, songwriters and artists began crafting more complex, diverse, and universally Filipino music that extended beyond the capital city of Manila.

Premier Balladeer Basil Valdez performance during Tribute to OPM concert.

Artists like Ryan Cayabyab, Rey Valera, Hajji Alejandro, Marco Sison, Basil Valdez, and Freddie Aguilar started producing music that was more sweeping and sophisticated. To reflect this broader, more mature national identity, pop singer Danny Javier (of the APO Hiking Society) coined a new term: Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

APO Hiking Society members Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo celebrated five decades of friendship and music in the APO Hiking Society 50th Anniversary Concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in 2023.

The Manila Sound ultimately became the blueprint for modern OPM. Whether through Hotdog’s witty urban storytelling, VST & Company’s disco anthems, or Cinderella’s melodic love songs, Manila Sound captured the pulse of a generation learning to define itself through music.

The Manila Sound gave way to the rise of OPM in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but its legacy was permanent. It proved that Filipinos wanted to hear their own stories, sung in their own language, to their own beat.

A special teaser performance from Bongga Ka, ‘Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical was staged during the closing night of Bagets: The Musical, previewing its narrative set in the 1970s.

    Manila Sound returns onstage
Today, that genre returns in spectacular fashion through Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical. Set against the glittering backdrop of ‘70s Manila, the production revives the music and spirit that made Manila Sound a cultural phenomenon.

Newport World Resorts, in association with VIVA Communications and The Philippine STAR, reunites for an original production featuring Hotdog’s timeless hits. The show is slated to open in September 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
