Originally written by Albert Kim. The series follows Aang (Gordon Cormier), the child Avatar, as he learns to control the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) in order to restore equilibrium to a world that is threatened by the frightening Fire Nation.
Here’s the synopsis from Netflix:
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope.

But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu) determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
The ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ live action series is an upcoming live-action adaption of the original manga that is set for release on December 14, 2023 on Netflix worldwide.
The ‘YuYu Hakusho’ manga series was written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi and originally serialized by Shueisha in the shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1990 to 1994. The series breathes new life into the story, and fans old and new can expect to encounter their favorite characters in ways that have never been seen before.
Takumi Kitamura will play the part of Yusuke, the protagonist of the series. Yusuke is a troubled adolescent who, following an accident, transforms into a Spirit Detective. Meanwhile, actors Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo, and Shuhei Uesugi, will take on the roles of Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara.
Utilizing a unique global one-team production strategy that spanned both Japan and the United States—the same approach to adapt the acclaimed “ONE PIECE” manga—Netflix took the same level of commitment to quality and authenticity in the live-action ONE PIECE to the production of ‘Yu Yu Hakusho.’
An international dream team was also assembled to bring the epic tale to the screen, tapping into the most advanced CG and VFX technologies from around the world. Known as “the most innovative VFX studio in the world” and lauded for their work on major Hollywood productions, Scanline VFX was instrumental in giving life to all the characters, both human and yokai (spirits), while delivering realistic battle action sequences.
Taking five years to complete the production of Yu Yu Hakusho, the team painstakingly ensured that the subtleties of every character’s emotions were accurately depicted in the adaptation. The fusion of state-of-the-art technology and a passion for staying true to the source material promises to make this adaptation a standout in the world of live-action anime.
‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ will be turned into a live-action Netflix series on December 14, 2023. When this version comes out, we can’t wait to see Yusuke Urameshi and his friends face demons and other creatures.
Grab your lumpia & ready the tissues for this heartwarming family dramedy!

Keys to the Heart is the Filipino remake of the beloved Korean film of the same name, starring Zanjoe Marudo as Joma. He plays the role of a washed-up boxer whose life takes an unexpected turn when he is suddenly reunited with his estranged mother Sylvia, played by Dolly de Leon, and his brother Jayjay, portrayed by Elijah Canlas. Recently fired from his job, Joma reluctantly agrees to stay at his mother’s house, where he is eventually left to care for his special-needs brother, a piano virtuoso preparing to participate in a prestigious music competition.
Aside from top-notch acting and the chaotic (yet oddly familiar) family plot line, here’s why you should add Netflix’s Keys to the Heart to your holiday watchlist.
It shows that families aren’t always perfect – and that it’s okay.
At the heart of Keys to the Heart lies its central theme: the reconciliation between Joma and his mother, Sylvia, whose awkward reunion is shadowed by a shared tragedy from decades past. Joma, hardened by years of living on his own, is suddenly thrust into an unconventional family unit, attempting to find his place alongside a mother he barely knows and a brother he had never intended to connect with. In a world often dominated by idealized images of family dynamics, the film beautifully portrays the complexities and raw emotions that come with reuniting fractured families. It provides a refreshing reminder that real families are far from perfect–and that it’s absolutely okay. We’re reminded that familial love – in all its messy, unpredictable, and sometimes heartbreaking nature – can thrive amidst these imperfections.
It touches on the theme of forgiveness.
Christmas is often associated with themes of giving, kindness, goodwill, and most importantly, forgiveness – which is masterfully portrayed in Keys to the Heart. Over time, even the gritty Joma finds himself becoming protective of a brother he initially wanted nothing to do with and showing concern for a mother he despised. We witness his journey of letting go of the grudges and letting in compassion and understanding – virtues some of us might struggle to embrace, especially during the holiday season.
It emphasizes the magic of and in music.
And what’s Filipino Christmas without music? Or better yet, what are Filipinos without music, period? One of the most significant aspects of the film is embedded into Jayjay’s musical ingenuity; it underscores the enchanting magic of music, laced throughout the narrative and into the lives of its characters. These transformative melodies bring healing and solace – not only for the characters but also for the viewers. Keys to the Heart reminds us that music, as a universal and unifying language, has the extraordinary power to touch and transform the hearts of people.
It teaches us the value of perseverance.
An effective Christmas movie not only brings joy to the viewers, but also imparts valuable lessons that carry into the new year. And what better way to show that than with tenacious protagonists who carry on and persevere amid their circumstances? There’s Joma and his dedication to his craft – even after years of being stripped of his boxing license – and Jayjay with music and how he, in his own ways, pushes through in spite of his special needs. Together, the two remind us of possibilities and the strength and power of resilience.
It is simple yet comforting–a perfect watch for the holidays!
As the holiday season nears, we seek the cozy embrace of heartwarming films that capture the spirit of togetherness paired with the magic of the season, and Keys to the Heart effortlessly captures that through moments of laughter, tears, and heart-stirring moments. With a beautifully uncomplicated storyline, it offers a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the season – and of life, really.
Prepare to be moved, entertained, and inspired by this Filipino remake. Watch Keys to the Heart, now showing on Netflix. Check out the trailer below:

(2020), and The Kings Affection (2021). Extraordinary Attorney Woo brought Park Eun-bin widespread acclaim for her outstanding performance as a young lawyer struggling with Asperger’s diagnosis. This role garnered her international recognition.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo spent 21 weeks on the list of the top 10 television programs in non-English speaking nations around the world, reaching the top spot in 57 of those countries. The survival thriller “Alice in Borderland,” which is a global mega-hit, will return for a third season of the Netflix series “Alice in Borderland.” Additionally, it was announced by Netflix that co-stars Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya will be returning to their roles, and that Shinsuke Sato will continue to direct the series. Artwork incorporating the Joker playing card was also revealed to celebrate the triumphant return of “Alice in Borderland.”
Kento Yamazaki plays Ryuhei Arisu in the live-action version of Alice in Borderland, and Tao Tsuchiya plays Yuzuha Usagi. Tomohisa Yamashita played “King of Clubs” Kyuma in the second season. Yuri Tsunematsu played Heiya, Hayato Isomura played Banda, Kai Inowaki played Matsushita, Katsuya Maiguma played Yaba, and Honami Sato played Kotoko. Netflix streams the show, and they describe the story:
Arisu and Usagi have to figure out the secrets of the Borderland if they want to get back to their world. In the first season, Shibuya was shockingly empty, but in this season, it is destroyed and covered with plants. This survival game is full of intense action and an exciting story, so don’t miss a second of it!
From November 2010 to March 2016, there were 64 chapters of the original Alice in Borderland comics, which were collected into 18 books. The first season of the live-action version had 8 episodes that covered about 31 chapters, while the second season told almost all of the major story. There were some changes, but if there was a third season, Joker would probably be a new part of it. Keep an eye out for future news!
K-dramas have an almost mystical allure that captivate audiences worldwide. The intoxicating blend of romance, drama, and fantasy has earned K-dramas a dedicated fanbase that keeps growing with each passing season. But why are audiences falling head over heels for K-Romance? Well, who better to ask than the actors themselves?
Where dreams come true
Ever fantasized about bumping into your celebrity crush and experiencing love at first sight? Whether it’s a chance encounter on the street or moving next door to your favorite idol, K-Romance brings your wildest dreams to life—just like in Doona! where college freshman Won-jun and former K-pop idol Doona end up sharing a house together.
Yang Se-jong plays the very ordinary Won-jun, who falls in love with Doona, portrayed by Suzy (a former K-pop star herself). Doona is definitely out of Won-jun’s league but as Yang puts it, K-Romance series are special because that’s when “a dream-like love can come to life.” Don’t miss Doona! premiering on October 20, only on Netflix.
When opposites attract
K-Romance has a knack for pairing up characters who are polar opposites. Social status, personalities, you name it—they bring together the unlikeliest couples and make their love stories utterly irresistible. Destined with You puts a hotshot lawyer with a lowly civil servant who might hold the key to breaking his family curse. Will fate be able to bridge the gulf in their social status?
Revealing the kind of romance shows she enjoys, Cho Bo-ah, who plays civil servant Lee Hong-jo, says: “I love the traditional kind of romance with an unbreakable bond between two completely different people.”
Another K-Romance classic is when enemies turn into lovers, just like in King the Land when an unlikely romance brews between a wealthy hotel heir who hates smiles and his hardworking employee who’s known for her irresistible smile. Former global K-pop idols Jun-ho and Yoona light up the screen with their sizzling chemistry. “Isn’t a risky workplace romance always the best?” says Jun-ho cheekily. “The emotions are so relatable and real because of the office setting. It can happen to you!”
Ever wonder if love transcends life and death? K-Romance titles explore this with the “time leap” or “rebirth” theme, posing the question: “Would you still love me if we could do it all over again?”
For Shin Hye-sun, who stars in See You in My 19th Life, the answer is a resounding yes. She describes true love as a “powerful affection that’s strong enough to bulldoze through your afterlife and still have your heart set on the same person.” Sure enough, Shin portrays a young girl who can endlessly reincarnate but when her 18th life gets cut short, she dedicates the next one to finding her now grown-up childhood crush who does not remember anything.
Similarly, in A Time Called You, Jeon Yeo-been plays a grieving woman who magically travels through time to 1998, where she meets a man remarkably similar to her late love. To Jeon, K-Romance can offer much hope, as it shows that “no matter how far back in time, no matter how different the person seems to appear, if it’s destiny, then you will end up together.”
K-dramas have evolved into a hybrid of comedy, romance, and even thriller elements. Behind Your Touch follows a psychic vet and a detective as they join forces to crack small-town cases and end up uncovering a chilling serial killer mystery. Playing the vet with the comic superpower that involves touching butts, rom-com queen Han Ji-min quips that it is a “refreshing new take on love.”
With K-Romance gaining global popularity, Netflix has a trove of love stories waiting for you. From heartwarming classics to thrilling time-travel adventures, there’s a K-drama palette for every romantic soul. So, why not dive into this delightful world and find your own reason to get hooked?
The Netflix romantic comedy series “Doona!” will star Korean actors Yang Se-jong (“Dr. Romantic”) and Bae Suzy (“Start-Up,” “While You Were Sleeping”).
The official date for when “Doona!” will come out has been revealed and it will premiere on Netflix on October 20th. It’s been called the most anticipated romantic drama series of the year, and people all over the world can’t wait for it to come out on Netflix. It promises to tell a love story like no other.
Doona! is an upcoming Netflix Original South Korean romantic K-drama that is based on the famous webtoon of the same name. It follows the lives of college student Lee Won-jun and the mysterious ex-K-Pop star Lee Doona as they meet and fall in love while living in a sharehouse.
The show is directed by Lee Jeong Hyo, who also worked on the very famous K-dramas Crash Landing on You, Romance is a Bonus Book, and Life on Mars.
Suzy plays Doona, an ex-idol. Alongside, Yang Se-jong, known for Dr. Romantic, embodies Won-jun, anchoring Doona’s stormy voyage. Showcasing a stellar combination–especially with Suzy’s dual credibility as a K-pop sensation and seasoned actress– the series is highly anticipated.
The teaser posters spotlight Doona and Won-jun’s magnetic bond. Their charged interaction is accentuated with dialogues such as, “What goes in that mind of yours? I am dying to know” and “But don’t fall for me either.” Won-jun’s evident curiosity is captured in his words: “What if I still like you and miss you?”
Prepare for a heartfelt exploration of young love’s fervor with Doona! on October 20, only on Netflix.
Characters usually die at the end of a story. Berlin, Andrés de Fonollosa from Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), is not one of them. Berlin, the spin-off series, will show the con man’s life before joining The Professor’s group. After five nail-biting seasons of dynamic characters, a gripping narrative, and mind-blowing cinematography, Netflix’s acclaimed series concluded in 2021, leaving fans devastated. We wanted more, especially of this beloved character. Thus, the franchise returns with a new series starring Berlin, revealing his past journey before Money Heist.
Berlin is set to premiere on Netflix on December 29th. The spinoff for La Casa de Papel follows one of the most extraordinary heists of the iconic character played by Pedro Alonso, who returns to the role of the hedonistic and clever Berlin.
In his new crew, he has Michelle Jenner (Isabel) as the electronic engineering genius Keila, Tristán Ulloa (Faria) as his confidant and fellow professor Damián, Begoa Vargas (Welcome to Eden) as the reckless risk-taker Cameron, Julio Pea Fernández (Through My Window) as the loyal squire Roi, and Joel Sánchez as the relentless man of action Bruce. Both Itziar Ituo and Najwa Nimri reprise their roles as policewomen Raquel Murillo and Alicia Sierra, respectively, from the film La Casa de Papel.
The eight episodes of the series, created by Álex Pina (La casa de papel, Sky Rojo) and Esther Martínez Lobato (La Casa de Papel), Sky Rojo), are written by Álex Pina, Esther Martínez Lobato, David Barrocal, David Oliva and Lorena G. Maldonado. Will be directed by Albert Pintó (Sky Rojo, Malasaña 32), David Barrocal (Sky Rojo) and Geoffrey Cowper (Day Release).

Netflix is home to a diverse offering of the best Filipino stories and talents. At the See What’s Next: Philippines 2023 launch, top local directors expressed how excited they were for their titles to be part of this year’s local lineup and why they’re perfect for the Pinoy Christmas.
“Christmas is about family, familial love, friends and it’s during [this] season when we try to evaluate the life that we had the past year, the milestones, failures, disappointment. Just like in our film, What If. What if iba nangyari sa buhay natin in the past year? What if kinuha ko ito or what if ’di ko ginawa ito? So I think it’s also not just a love story, it also helps us reflect kung ano nangyari sa buhay natin,” said Manny Palo, director of What If.
Keys to the Heart director Kerwin Go shared that his upcoming film is a must-watch this holiday season because “Keys to the Heart is a family dramedy. It’s a celebration of family, unconventional families, meaning blended families. It could be a family that you adopt and friends who become family and neighbors who actually become just as important.”
“Replacing Chef Chico is about Ella, the sous chef who takes over Hain’s kitchen. I think it’s perfect for the Christmas season because on the top level it’s about love, friendship, and acceptance,” said director Dan Villegas.
Replacing Chef Chico showrunner Antoinette Jadaone added, “For Christmas, perfect panoorin with your family, friends, and loved ones yung Replacing Chef Chico because, in every episode, there is a story of family, friendship and/or love, which is celebrated over food. It’s about time that Filipino food gets its proper spotlight. With this series, it’s a Filipino-produced original Netflix series, it’s a celebration of not just family, friends, or love but tayong mga Pinoy will be celebrating the Filipino food that we eat each day. When other countries watch the series, mafi-feel din nila iyon.”
This holiday season, See What’s Next: Philippines 2023’s lineup showcases best-in-class local content available and coming soon on Netflix. These films and series are the perfect watchlist to celebrate a Pinoy Christmas with family and friends.
