  • Culture Wars visits Manila for the 2nd time armed with hit singles

Culture Wars visits Manila for the 2nd time armed with hit singles

Fast-rising alt-rock band Culture Wars is back in Manila, this time as part of Maroon 5’s Asia Tour (Tour Stops: Manila – January 29, Jakarta – February 1, Kuala Lumpur – February 12, Kaohsiung Taiwan – February 14). The Texas-based band first visited the Philippines last October as LANY’s opening act at the Philippine Arena, and if their second visit here within just a few months of their first is any indication, it’s that they are ascending in popularity and demand at bullet speed.

Just months after Culture War’s single Miley played on Philippine radio and TV and introduced the band to us, their latest single It Hurts promises to endear them even more to Filipino music fans. Made up of Alex Dugan, Caleb Contreras, Dillon Randolph, David Grayson, and Josh Stirm, the band is clearly doing a lot of right things to get invited to tour with some of the world’s biggest bands. In fact, it won’t be surprising at all to see them headline their own major concert tour soon with the way things are going. The song-writing talent, the musical prowess, the energetic live performances—Culture Wars has them all in abundance, and yet this group of guys is as down-to-earth as you’ll ever get to see in a rock band. Sounds too good to be true? Check out their easy-going and candid interviews, and more importantly, try listening to their music.

It Hurts comes alive with a jangly guitar and driving bassline that music fans would surely love to blast in their cars—it’s addictive and nostalgic. The track, off of the band’s upcoming debut album which was mostly recorded by the band in Los Angeles, California, is playing now across music streaming platforms.

    ABOUT CULTURE WARS:

Austin’s Culture Wars’ debut album arrives ready to connect with a generation starved for authenticity and provocation in their rock bands. Recorded at Sonic Ranch Recording Studio, 30 minutes outside El Paso, Texas; Hollywood’s United Recording (Sinatra, Radiohead); and Sunset Sound (The Doors, Prince), the young group’s moving debut album is set to be a breath of fresh air full of ambition and pure intentions. As the band’s name implies, seemingly disparate passions battle within the songs, somehow beautifully making peace.

Culture Wars initially built a following through word-of-mouth and energetic live performances. Songs like “Heaven”, “Faith” and “Lose Money” blew up on streaming services, contributing to the group’s widening audience. “Leave Me Alone,” featured on the GRAMMY-nominated Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack, enjoyed an organic boost from mega-influencers and became Culture Wars’ first Top 30 Alternative Rock hit.

Their new work combines the past, present, and future with bold swagger. They make honest, expertly crafted, ambitious rock music built to resonate with a diverse audience. The sound Culture Wars developed blends the most vital rock and alternative music elements, earnestly emphasizing actual guitars.

  • Brazil’s All-Female Thrash Outfit NERVOSA to Bring the Sound and Fury to Manila this April 2025

Brazil’s All-Female Thrash Outfit NERVOSA to Bring the Sound and Fury to Manila this April 2025

There’s a charm when it comes to women proving they can rock out alongside the best of the male-dominated worldwide rock and heavy metal scene… a decade or so ago, it was mainly the fact that women were starting to get the recognition they truly deserved.

But now – the game has changed, as the worldwide metal scene has acknowledged that the ladies are doing things heavier, more aggressive, and generally, JUST BETTER. Fans of the thrash metal subgenre took one listen and looked at NERVOSA and knew that the band was on its way to the distinguished league of legends in the game.

And Filipino fans will witness their musical might as the band will be invading local shores to play the SKYDOME at SM North Edsa this April 16th, 2025. Dubbed 15 YEARS OF NERVOSA ASIA-PACIFIC TOUR IN MANILA, tickets will be released this January 25th via all SM Tickets outlets nationwide and will also be made available online through smtickets.com.

Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil – the land of other excellent heavy metal exports like SEPULTURA and fellow femme-metallers CRYPTA – NERVOSA is continuing the fine tradition of creating and exporting excellent metal from their homeland to international stages. Founded in 2010 by guitarist Prika Amaral and former drummer Fernanda Terra, the group – now composed of Amaral, guitarist Helena Kotina, bassist Hel Pyre, and drummer Gabriela Abud – was signed in 2012 by reputed Austrian metal label Napalm Records and released their landmark debut Victim of Yourself, which was an unrelenting showcase of the band’s expertise in delivering fast-paced thrash metal musicianship and guttural, unholy rhythms stemming from a strong death metal influence.

Though the band did undergo lineup changes during the following decade, it did not stop the sonic assault and aggressive onslaught of NERVOSA, as they proved with subsequent releases and consistently furious touring dates outside their native Brazil, paying their dues and offering homage to the still-thriving underground scenes worldwide (including the Philippines…) while building a strong live set meant for bigger stages.

So this April, PULP Live World will be giving local metal fans the opportunity to both welcome NERVOSA and prove that their sound and ethic is one that will be embraced and supported on this side of the globe. Without a doubt, the band is also expecting the occasion to be a fiery one as they celebrate their 15-year anniversary in the only – and best – way they know.

VIP tickets with an official Meet n’ Greet opportunity (alongside priority entry to the venue) will be selling for PHP 3,500, while General Admission tickets will be made available for PHP 2,000.00. Though it has been said before, truly – 15 YEARS OF NERVOSA ASIA-PACIFIC TOUR IN MANILA is an event no serious metal fan will want to miss. Live Loud – AND RAISE THOSE HORNS!

Tickets will officially go on sale starting January 25, 2025, 12PM through SM Tickets outlets nationwide and online via smtickets.com.

For more information on tickets and the show, log on to pulpmagazine.com , pulp.ph and follow PULP Live World on their official social media accounts.

IFPI Launches Official Philippines Chart, with Marilag by Dionela becoming first ever official #1 track

Launched by IFPI and backed by the recorded music industry, the Official Philippines Chart will be available alongside official weekly rankings from five other ASEAN markets.

IFPI, representing the recording industry worldwide, has today announced the launch of The Official Philippines Chart, bringing official, industry-backed weekly music charts to the country for the first time.

Marilag, the hit song by Filipino R&B star Dionela, has the honour of being the first ever Official #1 track in the Philippines. The song, released in November 2024, soundtracked the remainder of the year and has continued its strong streaming performance into 2025.

The Official Philippines Chart Top 20 will be announced every Tuesday, and will showcase the most popular tracks from local and international artists based on streaming across all major platforms. The Official Philippines Charts will be available alongside Official Charts for five other ASEAN markets at the Official Southeast Asia Charts website (www.officialseacharts.com), and via the related social media channels on Instagram and Facebook, allowing music fans to engage with trending tracks and emerging artists across the region.

Locally, Philippines Recorded Music Rights Inc. (PRM) is working together with IFPI to ensure that the Official Philippines Chart is accessible to Filipino consumers. The charts will be available on their website (www.prm.com.ph) and all social media platforms.

Reacting to the news, Simon Seow, Regional Director for Southeast Asia at IFPI, said:

“A huge congratulations to Dionela and everyone involved in making Marilag the first ever Official Philippines Chart #1! It is wonderful to see a Pinoy artist claim this milestone, and is a testament to the wealth of talent and artistry in the country. We look forward to reporting on further success and celebrating more artists in the coming weeks and months.”

Celebrating the launch of the chart Roslyn Pineda, General Manager Sony Music Philippines and PRM board member, said:

“We are delighted to announce the launch of the Official Philippines Chart, which will shine a light on the consumption habits of music fans across the country and provide an important platform to showcase the vibrant and growing local music scene. Combining the Official Philippines Chart with others in a regional hub gives fans an insight into how their favourite tracks are performing in other countries, and will aid the discovery of new hits.”

Supported by the recorded music industry, the Official Philippines Chart combines streams from global platforms Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify and YouTube. The charts are managed by IFPI and are built on data prepared by BMAT, in accordance with IFPI’s global charts principles and methodologies.

As well as the weekly charts updates, music fans in the region can look forward to a host of exclusive artist content at www.officialseacharts.com, the official music hub of Southeast Asia.

About the Official Southeast Asia Charts

The Official Southeast Asia Charts are a collection of weekly streaming singles charts – the Official Indonesia Chart, Official Malaysia Chart, Official Philippines Chart, Official Singapore Chart, Official Thailand Chart and Official Vietnam Chart. The data collection week runs from Friday to Thursday, with the charts released at www.officialseacharts.com and on the Official Southeast Asia Instagram and Facebook accounts each Tuesday.

In addition to the official charts for each country, four speciality charts are also delivered each week. In Indonesia, the Official Indonesia Domestic Chart, in Malaysia the Domestic and Chinese Charts, and the Regional Chart in Singapore.

All charts include chart-eligible streams from Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify and YouTube, while the Official Indonesia and Indonesia Domestic Charts also include Langit Musik. In accordance with IFPI’s global chart principles, streams from each market are weighted to take into account the difference in economic value between the free and paid tiers of streaming services. This delivers charts which reflect the volume and the value of streams across the region, celebrating the biggest songs of the week.

  • dwta and SB19’s justin reimagines “Sampung Mga Daliri” into a tale of doomed romance

dwta and SB19’s justin reimagines “Sampung Mga Daliri” into a tale of doomed romance

The duo recently performed the unreleased track at the 10th Wish Music Awards last January 19, 2025.

Rising singer-songwriter dwta links up with SB19’s justin for a striking new collaboration, “Sampung Mga Daliri,” a folk-pop lullaby that captures the degradation of a love that was once formidable and promising.

    dwta justin

Released under Sony Music Entertainment, the track reimagines the classic Filipino nursery rhyme into a poignant tale of doomed romance, with no way to save it.

“Sampung Mga Daliri” deals with the heartbreaking realization that love is no longer enough to make two people stay together. The song eloquently shows how the simple act of holding hands loses its meaning when there’s no one left to hold.

According to dwta, “Sampung Mga Daliri” was an unfinished track that she was working on in 2023. An opportunity to revisit the draft came in when she met justin in a gig at Cozy Cove last year, prompting the idea of pitching a collaboration with him.

“I thought it was a long shot, but I asked my team if there was any chance we could work on something together,” says the award-winning Bicol-based act. “Even before it was confirmed, I was already looking through my notes, trying to find a song that would match our voices or maybe even write something new. That’s when I stumbled upon Sampung Mga Daliri. It felt like the song was calling me, so I picked up my guitar, rewrote it, and finally finished it. I actually gave them two other options, but Sampung Mga Daliri just felt right. It was the one.”

The collaboration was a pleasant surprise to justin, who was immediately drawn to the song’s emotional depth. “Aside from being labelmates under Sony Music Philippines, when I heard Sampung Mga Daliri, it immediately felt like the right fit,” admits justin. “Out of all the songs sent to me, this one really stood out. It had something special.”

While their busy schedules prevented them from recording together in person, both dwta and justin worked closely throughout the creative process. The two attended online meetings, fine-tuned the song, and ensured that their connection came through in every note.

“After everything, we finally got to bond in person during shoots and trips, and that’s when I really got to know him,” shares dwta. “You know how famous people can sometimes feel intimidating or hard to approach? justin’s the total opposite. It’s like working with a sibling from a different parent. We just clicked, both musically and personally.”

Produced by dwta and frequent collaborator Brian Lotho, “Sampung Mga Daliri” draws inspiration from the haunting arrangements of The Paper Kites’ “Bloom,” but with a distinct twist that reflects both artists’ unique sound. The result is a stunning, emotionally honest song that explores brooding vulnerability, something dwta and justin had yet to explore in previous releases. The track allows them to push beyond their comfort zones, creating something fresh, evocative, and deeply moving.

As dwta puts it, “Since our styles are pretty similar and we share the same vision for the song, it was easy for us to agree on every idea we pitched. The whole process came together so smoothly. I’m really happy with how it turned out in such a short time.”

To introduce their new collaboration, dwta and justin recently debuted the unreleased song live at the 10th Wish Music Awards last January 19, 2025. Ahead of the release, both artists teased the song’s arrival, sharing snippets of “Sampung Mga Daliri” chorus on their respective social media channels on January 16 and 18. The teaser included a compelling single cover, where from a window, justin tries to reach for dwta’s hands, only for her to be reluctantly disengaged—an image that perfectly captures the song’s theme of love slipping through your fingers.

In addition, dwta has been releasing a series of live performances called “dwta series: Magka-Ibigan” that tie into the narrative of “Sampung Mga Daliri,” offering fans a deeper look into the song’s story before its official release. This heartfelt collaboration marks a new chapter for both artists, as they explore the delicate balance of love and loss through music.

Sampung Mga Daliri” is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. Watch the music video on dwta’s official YouTube channel at 8 pm. Stay tuned for the short-form miniseries featuring dwta and justin on the former’s YouTube and social media pages.

  • SEVENTEEN Brings “RIGHT HERE” World Tour Asia Leg to a High-Energy Start with Philippine CARAT

SEVENTEEN Brings “RIGHT HERE” World Tour Asia Leg to a High-Energy Start with Philippine CARAT

THAT FILIPINO LOVE IS REAL: The Philippine Sports Stadium radiated beautifully in the hues of rose quartz and serenity as SEVENTEEN reunited with their Philippine Carats to illuminate the local concert scene!

The South Korean boy band SEVENTEEN showcased their powerful presence and influence with their comeback concerts at the Philippine Sports Stadium on January 18 and 19 during the SEVENTEEN [RIGHT HERE] WORLD TOUR IN BULACAN. Attracting thousands of fans, the two-day show marked the beginning of the Asia leg of the boy group’s ongoing world tour, originally launched last year at the Goyang Stadium in South Korea. Since then, the 2024 Billboard Music Awards’ Top K-Pop Touring Artist has taken their fourth world tour to the United States and Japan. They will perform eight stadium shows across four Asian cities as part of the Asia leg of the tour from January to February.

A testament to the unwavering love and support of the fandom, who proudly filled the stadium last weekend, the concerts also represented the return of S.Coups, Joshua, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino to the Philippine concert stage after a year since they made history as the first musical act and K-Pop group to hold two consecutive performances at the Philippine Sports Stadium.

From the start to the finish, SEVENTEEN once again took control of the concert stage with their remarkable showmanship, captivating stage presence, charming personalities, and affection for their fans, all beautifully showcased alongside a visually stunning stage setup, strong teamwork from their live band and dancers, and an enthusiastic and lively crowd, creating a fun, aju nice show that would forge unforgettable memories.

With fans bursting with energy, resounding cheers, and lightsticks raised high, SEVENTEEN opened the eagerly awaited event with captivating performances of “Fear,” “Fearless,” and “MAESTRO.” Witnessing the sea of Carats—just like at all the venues where SEVENTEEN has performed in the Philippines since 2016—that had come to see them once more, Hoshi commented that every time they visit the Philippines, the Filipino Carats greet them with incredible passion and energy. “You guys are crazy,” the performance unit leader expressed, while DK added, “You are amazing, fantastic.”

The members, excluding Jeonghan who is currently serving mandatory military duty, and Jun who is engaged in various projects in China, reciprocated their Carats’ enthusiasm with an energetic greeting of “Say the Name, SEVENTEEN! Hello, we are SEVENTEEN!” followed by introductions where they marveled at the high-energy welcome from fans and showcased the Filipino phrases they had learned. The crowd also took the opportunity to wish Seungkwan, who celebrated his birthday on the 16th, a happy birthday, which he appreciated, and rejoined Hoshi’s horanghae agenda with proud tiger paws for the nag-iisang Tigre ng Carats. The concert marked the debut of BSS’ latest song in the Philippines, with BSS treating the audience to a glimpse of “CBZ (Prime Time).”

“I am very happy to do the first concert of 2025 in the Philippines.”

    WONWOO

The boys wasted no time in captivating their fans with the eagerly anticipated performance of “ASH.” The Philippine Carats have demonstrated once again how a concert should be executed, receiving an A+ for their efforts. The stadium erupted with excitement as they passionately sang along to Vernon’s verse in “ASH.” Keeping the momentum going, SEVENTEEN performed their 2021 track “CRUSH” from the Attacca album. However, it was still too early to be left speechless, as SEVENTEEN had plenty more surprises in store that night, including unit performances by the hip-hop, performance, and vocal teams.

The members repeatedly reminded us of their profound talents and abilities as they confidently presented their skills in units. The hip-hop team ignited the stage with “Water” and “MONSTER,” while the performance team showcased the beauty of “Rain” and “Lilili Yabbay.” Fans were in awe of the vocal team’s enchanting performances of “Candy” and “Cheers to Youth.”

SEVENTEEN continued to tug at our heartstrings with a nostalgic group performance of “Oh My!”, paired with an adorable skit. They took us back to their origins in Sokcho from 2015, where a promise was made: “If anyone changes in the future, let’s come back and throw them in the water.”

The Philippines has been a witness to the evolvement of S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino, and the Philippine Carats. This nation has consistently been part of their journey, serving as a regular stop on all of their concert tours. The boy group first graced the Philippine concert stage with their two-day SEVENTEEN 1st Asia Tour 2016 Shining Diamond at The Theatre at Solaire, a grand auditorium with 1,740 seats. The Philippine stop was unique as it was the only location outside South Korea and Japan to host two shows. In 2017, they concluded their first world tour, Diamond Edge, at the MOA Arena. The following year, they returned to the arena for another Asia tour, Ideal Cut. Manila also served as the final destination for their second world tour, Ode To You, in 2020. Since then, they have truly achieved great strides.

Every time they return to the Philippines, they add a new chapter to the local concert scene’s history. In 2022, they made their return to the Philippine concert landscape with two nights of BE THE SUN in Manila concerts at the MOA Arena. A few months later, Carats greeted the boys with the loudest applause and brightest lights, filling the Philippine Arena with exceptional energy during BE THE SUN in Bulacan. Through BE THE SUN in Bulacan, they became the first K-Pop group to host a solo show at the Philippine Arena, the world’s largest indoor arena. Last year, they were the first musical act and K-Pop group to perform two consecutive shows at the Philippine Sports Stadium. Nine years after Shining Diamond, SEVENTEEN gathered thousands of Philippine Carats for another back-to-back concert at the Philippine Sports Stadium.

The audience was on their feet, holding Carat bongs, jumping in excitement to the music, fully immersed in every second and moment of their cherished boys’ performances. SEVENTEEN enjoyed themselves on stage along with their Carats while singing and dancing to “Snap Shoot.” The Philippine Superstar, K-Pop’s Now DI-NOW, and aming bunso, Dino, and Carats collaborated once more for his renowned verse, generating proud smiles and cheers from the group.

With smiles and lively energy, the Gods of Music kept the celebration alive as the Philippine Carats exuberantly echoed “쿵치팍치, 쿵쿵칞팍치, 예” throughout the arena during “God of Music.” The members moved around the stage, reaching every area to get closer to their Carats during “Ima – Even if the world ends tomorrow.” They then acknowledged Team SVT before engaging in conversation with the audience.

The members were in awe of Philippine Carats’ rendition of Dino’s “Snap Shoot” part. Our bunso also impressed everyone with a spontaneous dance. Getting the baton from Dino, Vernon continued the freestyle dance. Joining in, S.Coups set the stadium ablaze with his freestyle moves. Determined to allow every member their moment, the crowd began chanting each member’s name, prompting the boys to cutely reply, “This is not a talent show, everyone. Calm down.” There may not ever be sufficient time for everyone’s freestyle dance, but there will always be a moment for The8. Minghao led Carats in making sure they were prepared to proceed with the show, holding their lighted Carat Bongs up high.

After a light-hearted intermission, SEVENTEEN performed a magnificent version of “HOME.” The stadium paused, soaking in the moment as waves of emotion flooded over them during a full group VCR. With everyone ready to dive back into the performances, SEVENTEEN unleashed their latest hit “LOVE, MONEY, FAME,” the dynamic lead single from their newest album, SPILL THE FEELS.

The surprises and gifts for their Carats kept coming with unplanned mini-performances of their beloved tracks, including “Clap,” “Our Dawn is Hotter than Day,” “Mansae,” “_WORLD,” and “Circles.”

The atmosphere ignited when “MARCH” returned to take center stage. Carats erupted in enthusiastic cheers as SEVENTEEN brought forth the electrifying “Super” stage back to the Philippine Sports Stadium. With PING HAGO BULACAN ringing out powerfully, the stunning pyrotechnics display added even more thrill to the already intense performance.

SEVENTEEN returned to the stage for their encore performances of “Adore U,” “’bout you,” and “Campfire.” The boys navigated the stage, expressing gratitude to the Carats who attended the concert and shared their vibrant energy that night. They then settled down to share their closing messages, one after another.

The members repeatedly praised the enthusiasm and passion of the Philippine Carats, sharing admiration for their unwavering spirit and warm welcome. “Together with the heat in the Philippines, the passion in the Philippines is hot,” Vernon remarked.

Mingyu echoed Vernon’s feelings and vowed to repay their fans’ love with even better releases, promising to return to the Philippines to reunite with their local fans. “It’s been a long time since we came to the Philippines. Thank you so much for your energy. We missed you, and I’m happy we saw each other again. For sure, we will be back to see each other again. We will be back with a good album and a good song when we come back. Until the end of the concert, please enjoy together with us. I love you, everyone,” Mingyu shared.

“Although it’s hot today, thank you so much for making it a lot hotter. Even though it’s hard for us to see each other, thank you so much for waiting for us for a long time. It is really touching to have you in front of us. For the times we haven’t seen each other, we enjoyed and made a lot of memories tonight, so we hope you enjoy at the end of the concert. Thank you!”

    THE8

“Did you enjoy? That’s a relief. I was really, really to come to the Philippines after a long time and see you in person. While we are performing, the energy of the Philippine Carats is super passionate. Even before coming out stage, you guys were singing so well, so we were so hyped up to do our performances tonight. We tried our best because we are grateful to you for giving us your precious time to come all the way here. Until the end of the concert, we will try our best to give you the best performances. Thank you all for coming tonight. Mahal ko kayo!”

Dino expressed his appreciation through a special appearance as his alter ego, Pi Cheolin. “Thank you so much for the opportunity to perform again in this venue. It was super, super fun!” Joshua added, “We missed you so much. We missed your energy, your love. We missed your beautiful faces, guys. Thank you so much for coming. I know it’s hot today. Thank you so much for trying your best to cheer us on. We love you guys so much. See you guys soon! Mahal ko kayo!”

The members continued to convey their thanks for the unwavering love and steadfast support of their fans, who filled the Philippine Sports Stadium once again this year with amazing energy and enthusiastic cheers. Woozi reflected on their past experiences in the Philippines and noted, “We really, really have good memories with the Philippines. I am really touched by your big, passionate energy you give me. Thank you so much! Until the end, annyeong!” Seungkwan called the Philippine Carats, “the best” and expressed his appreciation for celebrating his special day with him. “Thank you! Salamat po. Mahal kita! I am genuinely delighted because many Philippine Carats have congratulated me on my birthday. I have received a lot of love and blessings in 2025. We promise to keep you happy this year too. Please take care on your way home. Stay healthy. Thank you!”

“It was really fun that we are able to do our first concert for 2025 with you. We received a lot of energy from you, guys. We will try our best to give you good music. Your energy is no joke! Thank you for tonight. The weather is not the best condition to watch a concert, but thank you for enjoying with us. With your support, we will do our best to do the best performances until the end of the concert. Thank you so much for today! Thank you, guys!”

    WONWOO

“After 10 years, I am very, very happy that we are artists, singers who can fill this kind of stadium. Although we are not 13 right now, I really, really hope there will come a time when we can fill this kind of venue again.”

    S.COUPS

But without the enduringly iconic and legendary “Aju Nice,” a SEVENTEEN concert would never be complete. The exhilarating three-hour performance capped off with both the boys and their Filipino Carats erupting in cheers and high jumps, concluding the evening with an Aju-Nice celebration like no other.

  • It’s So Sweet, Knowing That Cigarettes After Sex Was in Manila

It’s So Sweet, Knowing That Cigarettes After Sex Was in Manila

American dream-pop outfit Cigarettes After Sex filled the Mall of Asia Arena to the rafters on January 14 during the Philippine stop of their X’s World Tour. This marked the band’s return to Manila following their 2018 performance, both brought to life by KARPOS.

Manila traffic on a Tuesday evening was as punishing as ever, but the band’s dedicated fans showed up undeterred. The show was sold out, and demand was so high that obstructed-view seats were opened just hours before showtime. Despite the humid weather, the audience adhered to an unspoken dress code of black, mirroring CAS’ signature monochromatic aesthetic.

True to form, the show was an exercise in subtlety. The band transitioned from one song to the next, pausing only for frontman Greg Gonzales to switch guitars. The stage design was minimalist: white lights, a backdrop of hypnotic visuals—moons, flames, florals—and a giant disco ball suspended overhead. It was understated yet deliberate, creating an atmosphere that was laid-back without feeling hollow.

The vibe may have been relaxed, but the arena was far from silent. In moments of quiet, fans filled the air with declarations of love and full-throated cheers. Gonzales, alongside Jacob Tomsky on drums and Randall Miller on bass, maintained their enigmatic presence, letting the music do the talking. When words were spoken, they were words of gratitude—simple, sincere thanks directed toward the audience. The night concluded with a personal touch: guitar picks and handwritten setlists gently placed into the hands of those near the stage.

The evening’s setlist unfolded like the stages of sleep. The opening notes of “X’s” lulled the crowd into a gentle slumber. Songs like “Dreams from Bunker Hill,” “Tejano Blue,” and “John Wayne” deepened the reverie, their steady rhythms and heartfelt lyrics akin to the slow, steady heartbeat of deep sleep. The REM phase kicked in with crowd favorites: “Sesame Syrup,” “Cry,” “Sweet,” “Sunsetz,” and “Heavenly.” During “K,” the arena transformed into a sea of lights as fans illuminated the darkness with their phone flashlights.

The dream reached its climax, the final crescendo before waking, with “Apocalypse” and “Opera House.” As the last notes faded, the audience stirred, emerging from the collective trance with a sense of having experienced something both restful and momentous.

In the end, Cigarettes After Sex didn’t need theatrics or over-the-top production to make their mark. Their music, coupled with the emotional resonance they share with their fans, was more than enough to turn a humid Tuesday night into a memory that lingers like the sweetest of dreams.

  • Jinjer will Pulverize Manila this February 18th at the Skydome

Jinjer will Pulverize Manila this February 18th at the Skydome

THE UKRAINIAN PROG METALLERS WON’T BE ALONE AS THE SPANISH METAL OUTFIT DISSOCIATED SUPPORTS THE SHOW!

The date draws near when Filipino metal fans will—once again—raise their horned salutes and gather to celebrate the live and the loud as the JINJER ASIAN TOUR 2025 is happening this February 18th, 2025 at the Skydome, SM North EDSA.

Led by both enchanting and empowering vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk, the band – featuring guitarist Roman Ibramkhalilov, bassist Eugene Abdukhanov, and drummer Vladislav “Vladi” Ulasevich – will be delivering the fire and flames via technical riffs and grooves, brutal growls, soaring melodic vocals and realistically dark lyricism; all of which are effectively combined into epic crowd anthems that have garnered acclaim from both critics and fans of the genre worldwide.

And to add to the excitement for the upcoming show, all-new international heavy metallers DISSOCIATED (hailing all the way from Spain) will be supporting Jinjer and are stoked to offer their unique take on the genre. Without a doubt, Disscoated’s addition to the show proves that heavy metal is alive and well in the worldwide music scene and promises local metalheads will now have twice the fun – and needless to say – get more bang for their buck.

Jinjer was formed in 2009 and armed with an intense touring ethic and a no-guts-no-glory attitude, the band rose to prominence by supporting legendary acts like ARCH ENEMY and CRADLE OF FILTH during its early days and stood out from their peers by incorporating various music styles in their live and studio sonic assault like funk, soul, R&B and jazz. But it was in 2017 – with the release of the single “Pisces” and its live video performance—that the band exploded on the worldwide map, and the track has currently garnered 88 million views. Their long-awaited fifth studio album Duél is set to be released this February 7th, and the release of the musically dizzying and wonderfully technical first single “Kafka,” has fans fired up even more – and can now be heard on all online music platforms and streaming sites.

There’s absolutely no reason NOT to witness this ground n’ pound offering from PULP Live World, and serious metal fans who want to keep the flame burning will have the perfect opportunity to show that the Philippines is a tour destination worth the stop.

Tickets to the JINJER ASIAN TOUR 2025 IN MANILA are still available at SM Tickets outlets and online via bit.ly/JINJERinMANILA.

  • Eraserheads documentary reveals official poster ahead of March 21, 2025 release

Eraserheads documentary reveals official poster ahead of March 21, 2025 release

Eraserheads: Combo On The Run also makes history as the first Philippine documentary in Dolby Atmos.

DVent Pictures and Warner Bros. Philippines, in cooperation with WEU, have unveiled the official poster of Eraserheads: Combo On The Run, a documentary film about the iconic Pinoy rock band and the monumental staging of their Huling El Bimbo reunion concert in 2022.

The film’s poster was designed by Brandon Schaefer of Jumpcut NYC, a multimedia artist renowned for his work on some of the most acclaimed films in recent memory. His portfolio includes the poster for Drive My Car, winner of the 94th Academy Award for Best International Feature, as well as artwork for the Sundance and Cannes-winning documentary All That Breathes, and the 40th anniversary release of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver.

Producer and filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura shared that Schaefer came up with multiple design concepts with minimal guidance, allowing him the freedom to explore different visual approaches.

“I had such a difficult time choosing just one,” said Ventura. “But in the end, it was a unanimous decision to go with the most commercially viable, one that includes all the vital elements. However, I wish I could release all of them, especially the more abstract and avant-garde designs which were really quite impressive and evocative.”

Apart from the poster reveal, Ventura disclosed that the Eraserheads: Combo On The Run will be the first Philippine documentary to be screened in Dolby Atmos, a cutting-edge audio technology known for its most immersive sound experience. Award-winning sound mixer and engineer Jason Abell, who has worked on music-themed documentary films such as Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, was responsible for the film’s innovative sound design.

“After we finished sound design at the famed Funkhaus in Berlin, Hilarion Banks, our exceptionally talented Cinematographer and one of our associate producers recommended Jason whom he has worked previously,” Ventura explained. “When I came across his body of work, I knew I wanted to not just collaborate but to learn from him as well. I immediately flew to LA to work at the same soundstage where they mixed Hans Zimmer’s Dune soundtrack, and both Beyoncé and Taylor Swift’s documentaries, and he did not disappoint. He’s a consummate professional dedicated to giving justice to the band’s genius and that somehow aligned perfectly with our primary objective: if we’re making a film to honor the music, then it has to be heard in the best possible way, and Jason made that happen. I truly am incredibly lucky to be working with such amazing artists, both Filipino and international.”

Eraserheads: Combo On The Run provides an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the Huling El Bimbo reunion concert, held in 2022 against a backdrop of political division and post-pandemic uncertainty. Featuring rare footage and never-before-seen interviews that reveal intimate details about the band, the upcoming documentary feature is considered one of the most important films of 2025 by both film critics and pop culture pundits.

The film will screen nationwide only from March 21 to 23, 2025. Meanwhile, the official trailer, which garnered significant attention from the public, has amassed more than 2 million views across various platforms within its first 30 hours.
